Date : December 17th, 2024 Color code : Written|Thought|Said The second round began and Maisie who was still aflame tried to move here and there, avoiding any spells that the opposing team might throw at her. Meanwhile, her teammate Avis cast the Sneezing Hex on Saunders. She showed such a perfect accuracy and because of that, despite his almost maximum effort, the Slytherin boy could not evade it. The boy would start to feel his nose itch and sneeze. Sere hoped that it wouldn't disturb his focus in the next rounds.
Few moments before the sneeze, the Slytherin boy had his chance to cast a... "Wow, a second year spell!" Sere exclaimed in amazement when she saw an Expelliarmus. Sere would always amazed by the prodigals on the piste. Unfortunately, it seemed that whatever spell Saunders cast, Avis had a greater desire to evade the spell so that the Ravenclaw managed to keep her wand in her grip. His partner Alyss tried to cast The Knockback Jinx once more, still on Maisie, but this time the spell went towards herself, knocking her back a few distances from where she was standing. "Critically fail. I hope you're okay."
The table is almost turned. Once again, this duel is still long to go and no one know the result. Sere folded her arms and focused on the next round.

Up on your feet. No matter how hard they hit, she had to stay up on her feet. As she was still trying to hold her breath as the fire clung fast to her robes, she knew she had to stay up and agile—something that she had yet to master. But she wanted to be ready for whatever team Slytherin might throw at her.
But it didn't come. Certainly, not the way the others might have expected. While Avis' spell was successful—"Well done!"—it was the opposing spells that were really surprising. Saunders threw something she didn't recognize in Avis' direction, but her best friend was able to deftly avoid it. Well done on two counts.
She had nearly turned to give Avis an eye of reassurance when the light of a spell at the tip of Alyss' wand went not at her—though she was ready—but straight back at the caster and the Slytherin girl found herself knocked back a few paces. This was a spell Maisie could easily recognize as it had hit her in the gut the few weeks ago. It didn't seem like a fun thing for it to accidentally hit oneself. She winced slightly at the sight.
But in a duel, every second counted. Watching Alyss recover would do none of them any benefit, as much as she wished her a swift recovery. Instead, she had to stay up on her head, ready and able for what was to come.

December 17th, 2024 Duelling Club“English” “Gaelic”
Somehow, everything went wrong. After their initial success, Alyss had felt a surge of hope that things would go her way. Unfortunately for her, the duel switched up in an instant. Saunders was casting an advanced spell at Avis, something Alyss would have been delighted to see hit. It seemed that Avis had other ideas, however, and managed to dodge his spell. And from there, everything went downhill. Maisie was dodging, clearly understanding that she was the snakes target in the first round and very well could be in the second as well. Luckily- or perhaps unluckily- for her, the spell that Alyss had meant to send her way backfired.
This was the first time that her wand had ever backfired, and Alyss was knocked back a few paces as the power of her own Flipendo hit her square in the chest. This was not how she wanted to fight. If she was in a duel, sending herself out was the last way that she would want to go. Alyss was determined to go down fighting. So she righted herself, and stood squarely on her own two feet. She had missed the streak of Avis’ spell hitting Saunders, but as she stood, it was clear that the momentum shifted, and the snakes could be in trouble.
But it was their job to turn the tables, and this duel was far from over.

Show Me Your Magic, Bring It On!
Avis couldn’t stop the grin from creeping onto her face as her Sneezing Hex hit home. She’d struggled in the first round to be sure but the Ravenclaw was never one to remain beaten for long. Setting her feet and realizing the Slytherin boy was aiming his wand directly at her in response, she managed to narrowly dodge as an advanced spell whooshed past her, ruffling her hair and robes as it passed. Avis absentmindedly hoped his miss had been caused by the distraction of her hex but judging by the level of his spell and his confidence on the piste, she probably had just gotten lucky.
Moments later, Avis winced along with everyone else in the room as Alyss was hit squarely in the chest with her own spell. Avis had never seen a wand backfire before and she glanced quickly at her own wand, eyeing it suspiciously for a moment before looking up at Alyss picking herself up and setting her stance. The girl was gritty. She’d give her that, but the backfire had done damage regardless and Avis hoped it would pull her and her best friend through the next few moments.
One thing she was quickly learning on the piste was the incredible pace at which luck and skill could shift the odds and with that thought echoing in her head, she gripped her wand tighter and prepared for the next round.

Show Me Your Magic, Bring It On!
Luck, that ever-fickle lover, had never pledged her loyalty to any soul, and now Saunders was learning this truth in the most vexatious way possible. His wand had admirably executed a second-year spell, the shimmer of Expelliarmus glaring triumphantly at the tip of his magical instrument carved from cherry wood. At that very moment, he had felt whole, a sliver of perfection slotted into place. But no law dictated that a successfully cast spell must necessarily find its target. And so, Avis had managed to evade his attack. His teeth clenched, and ambition, that familiar, irritating itch spread through his veins like a potion gone wrong.
Worse still, he had failed to dodge the Steleus (a charm that, in any other context, would have been laughably mundane) that Avis had so cunningly directed his way. Now, here he was, the heir of the most honourable Napier family, sneezing that bordered on an absurd torment like a cartoon villain. He would have preferred to take a solid hex, a wound he could, at the very least, wear like a weary yet dignified cloak as such bruises came with dignity. This? This, however, felt utterly humiliating, as though he had been reduced to some farcical participant in a scene crafted for cheap laughter.
And then, just as the tide seemed wholly against the snakes... Well, nothing better happened and he saw Alyss flung backwards, her own spell rebounding like an overeager boomerang. Was luck so utterly absent from this round for them? "It’s as if every possible calamity has been squeezed into this single moment," he mused bitterly to himself. Yet such was the nature of a duel: a patchwork of skirmishes stitched into the fabric of an uncertain victory. Who would ultimately stand triumphant remained veiled in the haze of unfolding chaos.
Saunders glanced at Alyss. "Don’t let it get to you," he said, his tone amicable. As he raised his wand once more, a dizzy cocktail of emotions flared in his gaze: determination (because he would win), ambition (because he had not won yet), and irritation (because his nose felt like a hive of angry pixies).

Date : December 17th, 2024 Color code : Written|Thought|Said The table has turned. One quickly outperformed the other, that's how every dueling match usually goes on. The Ravenclaw Team was in the lead right now as Avis made up for her first-round miss by successfully aiming at her target in two consecutive rounds. Once more, Alyss went back several steps from where she was standing. Sere gave a small nod to acknowledge the girl's capability. Maisie, who looked much better since the Incendio effect had completely worn off, tried to aim her wand at the same target, but Alyss was able to dodge The Dancing-Feet Spell pretty well.
On the Slytherin Team, Saunders managed to cast Verdimillious despite the sneezes from Steleus still affecting him. "That was a miss." Sere said to inform the result of Saunders' attempt, in case the Viper couldn't see clearly with that watery eyes. His teammate, Alyss, seemed to cast another Flipendo at the opposing team. Sere could understand that The Knockback Jinx was the most popular spell in duelling as well as the favorite of many duellists, even she herself had used it for countless times. Maisie seemed to be able to read the move and managed to avoid the jet of blue light.
"Alright, the next round," Sere immediately proceed to the next round, "Start!"

Show Me Your Magic, Bring It On!

It was almost as though everyone was paying a little bit more attention after the events of the last round. After all, no one wanted to be hit by a particularly nasty spell, self-inflicted or otherwise. That explained a swift series of dodges, including her own. Alyss, however, was not so lucky as Avis' spell cleanly hit her mark again. Maisie was beginning to wonder if her best friend might make an excellent duellist despite her aspirations in Quidditch.
There was only one hit this round—Avis'—and it mattered. From what had felt like a devastating first round in which she'd been absolutely pummelled by the Slytherins, it felt like the tide might be shifting. It was impossible not to see it—especially on Saunders' face. Even if the tables completely flipped a second time, that split second expression was worth it.
But she couldn't get haughty. One bad storm cloud could send everything could end. "Ready," she told Avis, in more of a statement than a question. Whatever was ahead, preparedness (as much as possible) was the only constant. If you weren't thinking, weren't poised for the next round, you were already gone. They'd come this far and there was only one way forward: with the grace to carry on.

Show Me Your Magic, Bring It On!
Saunders’ face fell. Neither Alyss nor Maise had chosen to target him this round. "So, they’ve discarded me this quickly," he mused with a palpable air of wounded pride. They were now focusing instead on Alyss, who was looking a touch more pallid than usual, likely from the repeated onslaught of Flipendo spells she’d endured.
It was all frightfully unsporting, his feelings revolted. Saunders’ mind flitted to the story of some long-forgotten hero whose name eluded him. "I do not raise my sword against a fallen foe," the hero once declared, "nor do I pursue one who flees." True, Alyss was neither fallen nor fleeing, but still, the principle lingered. Saunders now found himself holding his opponents to a standard he himself might not have observed in their place. Such are the conveniences of moral superiority when one is not burdened by action.
He had been reminded in the previous round (oh, that treacherous, tempestuous round) that luck was an utterly ever-fickle lover. And yet, it was precisely this fickleness that both inflamed his hope and nurtured his despair. For the caprices of fortune, like the deeper mysteries of fate, cared little for whom they might scorn next. Gripping his wand with fervent resolve for the fourth time today, Saunders silently composed an ode to fortune, a lover whose attentions he was now eager to redirect. "This time," he almost prayed, "betray them. You've done enough to us." A faint smile, delicate as a blush of hope, graced his lips.

Show Me Your Magic, Bring It On!
Avis couldn’t believe her luck. She’d managed to successfully aim yet another spell at her intended target for the second round in a row and she was now trying desperately to not let it get to her head. She knew the feeling well. If the Ravenclaw had a few good plays during a game of Quidditch, her only downfall in the past had always seemed to be a surge of overconfidence. Still, with this reminder tucked away in the back of her mind, the girl couldn’t help but gloat a bit. She’d never dueled before and she was doing alright, but an inner reminder of the first round made the smirk on her face falter.
Avis knew she wasn’t as skilled or practiced as some on the piste but she was holding her own. “Head in the game,” she whispered to herself, a common phrase she’d use as a Chaser flying high above the pitch. She looked up to see Saunders saying something to himself as well.
And she didn’t particularly like the faint smile that crept onto his face afterwards. A word from her partner interrupted the nerves rising in her stomach and Avis shot her a determined grin in response.
“Ready,” she replied, matching Maisie’s tone. Avis narrowed her eyes across the piste. Here we go again.

Show Me Your Magic, Bring It On!
December 17th, 2024 Duelling Club“English” “Gaelic”
Perhaps Alyss was becoming predictable. She raised her wand at Maisie for a Flipendo yet again, only to find the girl to have easily dodged out of the way. The main difference in this round was the direction the Eagles were pointing their wands. Both were poised at Alyss, clearly having realized that she was becoming unsteady on her feet.
Thankfully, she managed to duck out of the way of the attempt to make her dance by Maisie, however couldn’t move quite fast enough to avoid yet another Flipendo. Clearly they were using her own tricks against her, and she didn’t appreciate it. Saunders missed his charm directed at Avis, and somehow the Slytherins were even worse for wear than where they were before that round. It was apparent that luck only appealed to them for round one, and since then solely despised them.
The tables had turned in favor of the birds, and Alyss didn’t like it. She didn’t like it one wit. The snakes were in a bad position, but as the saying says, the cornered rat bites, and of all the houses likely to turn around and snap their jaws, the Slytherins were by far the most well suited to ensure that they turned out on top.
Looking around, Alyss knew that she was doing the worst out of everyone here. Her eyes unfocused for a moment as she contemplated her next move, before coming back into focus to gaze as her opponents. She had just taken a hard hit. They were likely going to capitalize on that, just as she would. But Alyss wasn’t going to let herself go down without a fight.
