2024/25, Stage 1 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 3

Jake tried his best to salvage the dire situation that his team was in - he extinguished the flames from his friend...or well...he TRIED...but it was so out of control he couldn't even extinguish it completely! Somehow Jake had barely been targeted at all, but his team-mates were both on their last legs, and Hades spell had gone wildly out of control, almost hitting ALL of their team. Jake knew he had to do SOMETHING, but he didn't know what. It seemed like there was just no chance, but he had to try didn't he? He had learned a few years ago that he didn't want to ever give up when he didn't have to - because it was what everybody had expected of him. Times like these, it really tested that determination...but how could he let his team down?

Still...what could he DO?
2024/25, Stage 1 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 3
All of a sudden, Julian's sinuses were blessedly clear and fire that had been raging on his clothes got extinguished, and he suddenly felt like he could breathe. He was still weak, yes, and in pain, but it afforded him a clarity of mind that had not been present before.

His team was in dire straits. He didn't think him or Hades would last much longer in the duel. Their only chance--and it was a slim one at that--was to take Kim out of the running, so Jake wouldn't be outnumbered two-to-one. So Julian did something drastic--he summoned fireworks.

Unfortunately, the opposing team chose that moment to heal Kim, so even though he managed to hit, it wasn't all that effective. Fortunately, his own nerves were too fried to startle much at the popping sounds the firecrackers produced.

After the rather explosive previous round, the next round of the duel was relatively subdued. Both teams sought some measure of healing for their injured duellists while simultaneously attempting to knock out those injured in a decisive blow. What occurred instead was a display of impressive dodges and attacks that did not quite pan out the way the duellist likely intended.

On the Gryffindor side, Rose's knockback jinx was evaded while Elsa's fire-making spell missed its mark entirely and seemed to veer towards an unintended target. Luckily for them, that was also evaded. Kim meanwhile continued to focus on healing himself.

For the Hufflepuff team, attacks on Kim were unsuccessful although Rose was caught up in the radius damage of Jake's spell causing some residual effects. Hades, wisely expecting to be targeted, focused on himself himself.

All duellists were still standing and time would tell if the badgers could stage a comeback surprise.

Nicky was rather unimpressed by the results of that particular round, however, she knew that there was still some time left. She also remembered though that there were only so many times she could mess up before the odds weren't stacked in her team's favor anymore. So she did her best to focus on the duel and concentrate on visualizing and performing her next move to the best of her ability.
RAWR.

Rose’s Knockback Jinx missed its target, and so did Elsa’s. Kim healed himself, as did Hades, and Julian also missed. However, Jake managed to hit her with yet another cracker jinx. To be fair, it was the first time she had been hit during this duel, so she wasn’t too upset, but she shook out her limbs, focusing back in.

Kim decided to take this time to heal himself a bit more because there weren't many rounds left and getting a few good spells off was essential to their looming win. If he wanted to survive until the end to celebrate with his teammates, he'd need to remain conscious. Therefore, healing himself was the best possible option right now for him. Hades also had the same idea in mind and both of them ended up being successful with their spells. Kim's lips twitched with slight amusement at this. It was almost like they had the same mind, being cousins and all, and he looked forward to seeing what would happen in the next round now.

Once more Jake and Julian targeted him again which made sense. But this time, neither of them ended up hitting him.

Perhaps it was because Rose had tried to attack Hades and Elsa's spell veered off course heading towards him too. Hades probably had needed to focus more on avoiding that spell to survive himself and maybe this was why Jake and Julian had ended up missing Kim. They could have been worried about Hades at the time. Jake had decided to cast the Blasting Curse at Kim and although he ended up missing in the end, a few chips of wood from the platform ended up catching Rose. But it wasn't too bad for the most part. All in all, it was a pretty tame round, with almost everyone missing their spells except for Kim and Hades who had healed themselves. Hopefully, the next round would be a little more exciting.

Hufflepuff VS Gryffindor
───────────────────
Each time the rounds became more intense, critical because it was increasingly indeterminate to guess in which position they were, who could have advantages. In this round he tried to perform a healing spell, noticing how the effects were on him, having managed to. He was not the only one who performed such a spell, Kim had done it too.

As he observed, the Gryffindor, two of them had tried to use offensive spells, but both failed, causing Hades to raise both eyebrows. Fortunately, the spell of Jake had effect only with Rose, having inflated her a slight effect. Still, would it be possible for the Hufflepuffs to have a chance to recover and win the duel? There were chances but it wasn’t going to be easy.

Jake was relieved that this time Julian hadn't been stricken by fire. His friend had certainly burned enough. But with the time winding down, it didn't seem like there was anyway to salvage this situation into a win.

Nobody was even TRYING to hit him yet (and as much as Jake had once found the dueling spells terrifying, it was perhaps a mark of growth that he found himself a bit insulted at this!) but he was pretty sure he knew why. Julian and Hades could only take so much of this, couldn't they? They were on their last legs...and Jake tried to fight the Gryffindors off with fireworks, but aiming was hard while he was freaking out trying to keep the fight under control.

If they could just survive a bit longer maybe it wasn't QUITE too late to turn things around.
2024/25, Stage 1 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 3
Julian was rather surprised to still be standing after the next round of spells went out. He supposed the Gryffindor team's indecisiveness was to blame. They seemed to think they were close to knocking both Julian and Hades out and they hadn't chosen to target their attacks to either, leaving Julian with just the one spell to avoid, and avoid it he did.

Of course, in duelling, it wasn't enough to avoid spells. You would get worn down if you didn't focus on felling the opposing team first. Unfortunately, Julian was not doing a great job of aiming in his present state, and the Flipendo he cast at Kim missed. It did not bode well for him or his team.

There was no way to avoid saying it but this round was not a good round for the Hufflepuff side. Indeed, it could be argued the entire duel was not a good duel for the Hufflepuff side. That of course did not mean they had given up. Oh no, they fought on with all the fury and resolve of warriors. Alas, the fury and resolve of the Gryffindors had been just that much more. At least so far.

Were Cassius a betting man he would have put money on Julian, who had suffered untold horrors this duel, would be the first to fall. This particular moderator was surprised however when it was Hades who ultimately fell first, falling victim to a particularly well-cast knockback jinx and fire-making spell. Even Jake's healing was not enough to sustain the Hufflepuff duellist.

"Pause!" Cassius said with a stern voice to allow the body to be removed from the duelling platform, wisps of smoke rising from his duelling attire as the assistants doused the flames. "Resume!"

Gryffindor had drawn first blood and despite a salvo of cracker jinxes from the Hufflepuff side, they had emerged unscathed and recovered from this latest exchange of spells.
