OOC Notes: Had to do some serious digging for the actual book to get some of this info.
A new year. The same school year, mind. A time to welcome new paths, new problems and the continuation of tedious problems. With the Hag Doll situation fizzling out unceremoniously on Emily's end and the werewolf revelation still on her mind, Emily was quick to return to Hogwarts. With a new year, hopefully that would add power to a new mind and with it, new solutions for her half-human and magical creature friends.

Nestled on a branch in a homemade bed made out of twigs and some old fabric taken from one of Patricia Shephard's discarded designs, Tavra sat comfortably as she preened herself whilst listening to the excitable ramblings of her human below.

In her red duffle coat to shield herself from the nippy air, Emily paced up and down a length of the grounds, reciting from her copy of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" with Tavra watching her. Emily was in one of those moods where she would talk out loud to herself; so much that one would think she was conversing with an invisible stranger. She liked talking to herself. It made her feel heard in times when she was sure the world thought she was going mad, or madder than usual. She also liked pacing. So by putting those two together, she was in a great mood. She had walked the same length so much that there was no snow left to stamp into a footprint. It was only a matter of time now before Emily carved a hole into the earth as she read diligently from her book.

"Ministry of Magic Classifications..." Emily read down the page, her eyes following her finger as she traced the paragraph. "XXX... Competent. XXXX are dangerous... XXXXX... Impossible to train..." She scoffed. "We'll see about that, Mr. Scamander."

She curled the corner of the page into a bookmark before flipping to near the end of the book, skimming through the "A-Z of Magical Creatures" chapter until she got to the end.

"Ah, werewolf! Says here that they're rated XXXXX when in their transformed state... But surely that can't be strictly true when wolfsbane comes into play, right?"

Tavra trilled as she continued to smooth out her feathers. Emily didn't count on Tavra listening to everything she was talking about - the bird was like a spaniel with wings, daft as all thought, and Emily still hadn't mastered the art of translating owl noises to human language. In fact, Emily could just about speak English with all her tongue tying and trying to pronounce textbook vocabulary for homework.

"It also says here that they 'actively seek humans in preference to any other kind of prey.'... But why? They're technically human by the end of it all. Wolves eat rabbits, deer and elks. Wild wolves might eat human meat... But with werewolves why do they?"

Emily was shaking her head as she kept pacing the grounds, circling the tree that Tavra had taken shelter in.

"A werewolf, when broken down into the most basic terms, literally means 'man-wolf'. You'd think 'man' would mean that there's still semblance of humanity inside them that's not their physique or taking wolfsbane into account... What if there's something in a werewolf that completely overrides the human intellect? Maybe the wolfsbane is what helps bring the human connection back out and that's what allows them to retain their human mind during transformations!"

She looked back up at Tavra with a "eurika!" expression, also secretly hoping Tavra was keeping up with her word vomit. "Right??"

Tavra chirped and cocked her fluffy head, her big dark eyes staring back at Emily... So maybe not then. The grin on the Huffie's face began to shrink into nothing.

"Or... Maybe I'm over thinking this..." Emily leaned head forward against the tree and whinged. "Why do I have to wait until next year to learn this stuff??! I need answers now!" There's only so much believing in my own blind guesses that I can take...!"

Tesla had put her faith in Emily to come up with a practical solution to make werewolves more accepted into society. Her point on wolfsbane had stuck with her ever since they had that chat a while ago. Without it, werewolves were carved as the predators, among many, that preyed on the human race. To think that one night without the precious wolfsbane and it's enough to shatter a person's whole career.

"Instinct outweighs the intent in this scenario. It must!"

Emily flicked through the book again hastily and huffed. "Of course... There's nothing about Hags or Dolls in here..."

It didn't matter how many trips Emily took to the forest in search for Hag Dolls... She didn't find a damn thing for the last two months. No tracks, no hideout... Pointless. Yet the memory of those things were as fresh as the day she saw them harass that frightened boy.

Other than that time she caught him with that other boy and the Ravenclaw kid, Emily hadn't seen him at all since that night. She had been thinking about that group of students who were supposedly planning to look into it themselves. Emily was hoping that their efforts didn't plant them further into trouble.

"It doesn't make sense though..." Emily mumbled. "Why come here? What's so special about here? Hag Dolls every year at this school... Why?? Why not try elsewhere...?"

They already went after Lily McCoire years ago. That wasn't good enough. They then went after that Slytherin boy before the winter holidays. That's not good enough for them either. So they keep coming back. Why?

"There's no clear pattern to the victims being targeted by them..."

Emily then pressed her lips into a thin line. "And... Even if they did come after me just because I'd seen them, it still wouldn't lead to a pattern or an answer... And as much as people will hate me for it, I refuse to believe in the reason of random, mindless, gleeful torture...!"

Even after speaking with Evelynn, the unknown of it all that still lingered played restlessly on Emily's mind. A thinker who believed in reason behind everything, maybe she was self-sabotaging herself by not acknowledging that some animals can't be tamed. Only observed. Maybe protected. And sometimes defended from.

That didn't mean she liked to admit it.

She read down a paragraph on unicorns next in her book and almost choked when she saw what was written.

"A XXXX category?? How?? How are unicorns 'dangerous' and 'require specialist knowledge'??"

She followed a footnote and read it aloud. "Because it should be treated with great respect..." The book was slammed shut before Emily rolled her eyes.

"Of course it should be treated with respect! ALL living things should be treated with respect! We are what we are! They are what they are! It's up to us to understand them so we can better coexist with them peacefully!"

Emily threw the book into her bag. "Such rubbish... A unicorn being dangerous because it requires respect... Pah! Sorry Mr. Scamander, but you and the Ministry can sod off on that one!"

She leaned back against the tree, all the wind escaping her as her body finally relaxed when she calmed down.

"My unicorn friend was the most gentle creature I'd ever seen in that forest... If not for it's company, I'd never would've made it out of there. I'd have frozen to death or have been left with my battered self as food for some other 'evil' critter."

Tavea flew down and rested on Emily's shoulder, burying her noggin into the crook of her neck. Emily sighed contently at the contact.

"We've a long way to go before we can prove the beauty of this playground of mess... Don't we?"

705.200|are you (@Emily Shephard) frustrated too?
𝓑rookline lifted a hand, her brow creasing as she studied the bitten nails. To be honest, in the new year, she hadn’t wanted to go back to Hogwarts. It would of been too hard, she thought. And perhaps hard on her siblings.

They need me, don’t they? The Ravenclaw thought, shivers ran down her spine, causing her to spring straight like a jack-in-a-box, the thought nagged her. Revealing her nerves and the fear of the rest of her family leaving her like her father. Great. Just great, now you’ve mentioned it, thanks....

As she turned her palm around, deciding that her horribly bitten nails were chewed off in a nervous state. Brookline couldn’t remember when, just why she did it. She then chided herself; she knew her family cared for her, and needed her, confirming that she was vital and loved.

Lowering her hand, she scratched at her black tights, her right thigh itching. The irritating fabric was probably not the best thing to wear on a uneventful Saturday. Brookline was casually ambling around, outside, breathing sighs of relief. It was a bit of freedom, some of her gloom and angry gone. Though her white turtle-neck sweater was pretty, the super warm fabric was excruciating heating her. Brookline rubbed her neck, and spotted a girl with long brown hair pacing across the grounds. She carried a book, reading aloud, spewing word after word, her bright red coat which Brookline had saw right away. The girl looked familiar and so did the book!

A small but quite pretty owl sat on a tree branch, her attention fixated on the rambling girl - no, not just any girl... It was Emily! As Brookline ventured closer, she could hear the Hufflepuff’s voice, loud and clear.

Because it should be treated with great respect...

Then the book slammed shut, and Brookline was only able to see one word before Emily chucked it in her bag. Beasts. Based on the size and that one word, Brookline knew what the book was in a instance. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Her own tome was packed away in her trunk, where it sat battered and probably with a couple to more than a few sticky ripped pages with bent corners and a beat-up spine. She didn’t know how many times she’d read the book, all she knew what the copy was almost ruined. She’d have to convince her par- nope, her mother to buy her another soon, or actually she could buy the book with her own savings. Heck, perhaps she saved enough she could buy her own broom!

Then tugging on the turtleneck of her sweater, Brookline ventured over to Emily, who had leaned her back against the tree, her owl Tarva sat, and starting telling herself about unicorns. Oh, a unicorn? She met a unicorn??! The Welsh pureblood beamed, she’d always wanted to what a unicorn looks like. Maybe it has sparkling eyes, and its horn really does have healing spells!!

She turned to the sky just when Tarva had flew down to sit on Emily’s shoulder. It was a little ways before Brookline reached the Huffie. When she did reach Emily, she waved before spewing out excited words.

“Hi Em! Its good to see you. But I couldn’t help overhear, is it true that you met a unicorn?? Oh...” Brookline’s voice faltered as she noticed the look on Emily’s face. It was almost sad, but more solely solemn then anything. “Emmy... Are you okay? You don’t look like your bright Hufflepuff self...”

If there was anyone who’d understand how Emily felt, it’ll be Brookline. She’d dug a hole too deep in sadness and frustration, and she hadn’t quite filled it up again. But then again maybe Emily was just frustrated with Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. She looked quite annoyed when she slammed the book shut.

Brookline then shivered as the slight January breeze blew by, her spine tingling at the new temperature. The breeze felt good with her warm sweater. Even thought it was small and slight, it changed the heat she was feeling. Glancing at Emily again, Brookline lifted her hand again, she hated the chewed stubs of fingernails she created. Was she the monster?

Ophelia had spent the better part of her mid-year break sequestered away in her room, a book in hand, mind burdened with so very many thoughts. For the first few days, Felix had tried his best to rouse her, bribe her into playing one game or another. Her father had came up to her room, sat next to her, and tried to speak to her for who knew how long, wanting to confirm that the magic hadn't taken his daughter away. It was only Cecelia who truly understood what her daughter was going through. It was only Cecelia, who sat by her daughter for the entire break, quiet, sticking her nose into a book of her own. But even her mother did not understand the extent to which Ophelia hurt.

Magic was amazing. There was no question about that fact. Every aspect of the wizarding world that Ophelia had encountered so far had unlocked something new in her, and her love for the world that she'd been born to live in only grew and grew. But with every new discovery, while her horizons expanded and her thoughts formed anew, a hole was growing within Ophelia. The problem was, Ophelia was a planner, she always had been. And up until Hogwarts had changed her life, she'd always had a plan for her entire life. Her truest gift was storytelling, it always had been from when she was young. She could spin tales from just bits and pieces, and though she still loved to do so, now there was a whole new world out there. It wasn't just science and stories, creatures and choruses that called to Ophelia anymore-- it was a whole world of things. Having taken a year to breathe it all in, now the second year wanted to make a new plan. The problem was, she was stumped.

While her family had just believed her to be "in one of her moods," Ophelia had really just been contemplating life as a whole, sarcasm set aside. And after reading all those books, novel-like and otherwise, she'd found absolutely nothing. Now here she was, back at school, and while not completely miserable, mostly so.

It was for this reason, to cheer herself up, that Ophelia decided a bit of outdoors would do her some good. With her little Doveling not far behind, the Northwell girl made her way down to the Hogwarts grounds for a much needed nature detox. It was only once she got there that she found Emily seemingly reading a book and... yelling at it? Or perhaps it was just speaking, Ophelia couldn't really tell from far away. She must either really love that book, or hate it with all her heart, she thought, amused.

I probably shouldn't go say hi and interrupt her reading... Ophelia knew how much she hated when someone disturbed her while she was well into her literature journey. But then she saw Brookline, her roommate, walk up to Emily. They exchanged words, and Ophelia didn't feel like missing out. Perhaps-- though she felt terrible for even thinking this-- the other two hadn't had the best break either and would enjoy a break from their thoughts?

"Come, come, Dove."

Ophelia led her tabby over to the other girls, arriving just in time to catch the last two sentences coming from Brookline's mouth. The Ravenclaw blinked. Emily wasn't feeling well? Did something happen? She remembered that one time that they'd run into each other in the owlery, both of them sending letters to loved ones back home. Emily had gotten upset then too, was she reliving that, or was this something else? Protective instincts flared in the Northwell, and she sidled closer, waving with her hand in case either of the girls looked over at her. She hoped they wouldn't mind her popping up.

"Hello, hello, both of you!" She paused, rearranging her face to match the mood. "Is everything alright?"

Silva was having a relaxing day being lonely. She missed her family, she missed her friends who she hadn't really gotten an opportunity to hang with since before winter break, and she missed her owl. She really just wanted to leave Hogwarts and go home, but her parents would never allow that. And besides. She could never go back to the muggle world after seeing all this. That was what she hated about it.

So far she'd been doing pretty well this year. Aside from the very beginning she'd been happy. But.. seeing her family again... it made it all so much harder.

Suddenly a voice, carried on the winds, breached her thoughts. She could only catch a few words, something about Mr Salamander, but they seemed to be talking to themself. She lifted herself up, off her back, and looked around for the speaker. She quickly found them pacing the grounds a little ways away. She was tempted to get up and find a different spot but she eventually decided to just stay there.

The words kept drifting over. As the girl started talking about werewolves, Silva realized the girl had originally said something about Mr Scamander, not Mr Salamander.

She absentmindedly listened to the words drifting over. The girl had started talking about hag dolls. She tilted her head back in that direction, curious. Those words reminded her of the strange doll she'd received for the house cup in November. She'd initially been interested in it, but then she'd started getting creeped out. After she read an article about creepy dolls she'd decided just to throw it out.

She realized she'd missed the rest of what the girl was saying and the strange one way conversation had moved on to unicorns. The girl seemed to be getting a bit louder. She was clearly irritated about something in the book. What that was, Silva had no idea.

The wind switched directions and she couldn't hear the last of the conversation. However, she could hear the flutter of wings. She bolted upright. There she was. Skye. Silva's new owl. Returned from giving a letter to her family. She'd gotten the owl over the break, much to her parents annoyance, but she'd managed to convince them by promising to take 100% responsibility for caring for her.

The owl was an older one, and a tiny one. She was a little Eastern Screech Owl and was certainly the size of one.

Skye was hopping closer. She reached out a hand and stroked her gently. Then, seemingly for no reason, Skye flapped her wings and headed off. "Oh no you don't! Come back here Skye!" She ran after her little owl and tried to grab her, but in response she just flew higher up. She appeared to be heading towards the owlery.

She was so absorbed in trying to get Skye to come back that she didn't realize she'd run right into the area with that older girl in it. There were now two more girls in it too. She froze. "Um.. I uh... so sorry....... I'll just...." She awkwardly started backing up. No one in the group seemed to be in a happy mood and she hoped she hadn't interrupted anything important.

A long-winded groan of frustration and fatigue rolled out of Emily's mouth, which unfortunately prevented her from realising that several students had come over and more than likely witnessed her arguing with the wind. She perked up however when she saw that two of her dearest buddies were the ones to catch sight of her and her expression immediately morphed into one that signalled a better mood.

Tavra took off like an eagle when she saw Ophelia and Brookline approach her and her Huffie. She flapped circles around them before trying to snuggle into their arms and necks, pecking at any loose strands of their hair and their warm layers to try and dig her way close to them. Tavra loved her human but she also loved her human's human friends too... As anyone could plainly see.

Emily beckoned Tavra back to her shoulder before she embraced her buddies and giving Dove a little scratch behind the ears. "How lucky am I to be saved from my thoughts by the two of the greatest friends I have?" she smiled brightly. She took a deep lungful of air as she expelled her pent up angst out of her mouth and into the nippy air.

"I'd be a lot more cheerful if the world wasn't so dang complicated," she smirked. "So much has happened I feel like I've barely been able to process anything at all."

Soon another owl flew into their midst and along came a third Ravenclaw girl. Her unfamiliar face and slightly smaller stature reckoned she was a First Year. As she chased the owl back to her - presumably hers - Emily grinned as she invited her in when she started to walk off.

"It seems I'm popular with the blue birdies today!" she jested. "But to alleviate those concerned faces of yours..." she gave a glance to both Brookline and Ophelia. "--I'm alright, really. Just a lot on my mind, that's all."

She laughed it off. It was all ridiculous really, thinking about trying to change or shed light aspects of the world when no one wants to here it. If any of the three girls had heard any part of her rambling, then it was just a fluke. As if they really wanted to hear all that talk about werewolves and hags and all that jazz. That, and Emily soon feared change might be a chance she was slowly losing the longer she continued to stand doing nothing.

Ophelia was glad to see that Emily was happy to see her. But, she'd still seen the slight change in her features, from before the Ravenclaw girls had arrived, to after. She'd looked frustrated and angry, more than sad, but it had all been replaced by a bright smile as soon as she'd realised that she had an audience. Which Ophelia couldn't really fault her for, considering she'd have done the same thing.

"Which particular complication are you talking about?" Ophelia asked. There was a lot of complications in the world, to that the Ravenclaw could testify. She herself was pondering over the predicament of too many opportunities-- who would've guessed that would ever be a problem? But a problem it was, and like any problem, it took a lot of Ophelia's time and energy.

The young Northwell peeked over at the book that Emily had had open before Brookline and her had interrupted. It wasn't a novel, but an informational book. And not just any one, Ophelia realised as she randomly skimmed a few of the words, it was a textbook on magical creatures. The Ravenclaw decided not to bring it up until Emily answered her earlier question.

Another Ravenclaw girl entered their little circle, though this one wasn't one Ophelia had frequently interacted with, like her roommate Brookline. No, this was a first year. I think her name is Silva? Or maybe it was Silver, she couldn't be too sure. She gave her a nod of acknowledgement and a quick smile. Then, she watched as another owl joined their small collection of pets-- Tavra, Dove, and the first year Ravenclaw's owl.

Ophelia widened her eyes. Dove was little, and when she felt outnumbered she really did like to... It was too late. As the Northwell watched, her little tabby sprung onto the newest owl. Though she couldn't reach the owl, Dove kept trying.

"Oh, no you don't." Ophelia caught the tabby and held her wriggling form in her arms. "Sorry about that."

𝓑rookline glanced to the side when she heard a familiar voice. It was Ophelia! The Welsh pure-blood smiled brightly at her roommate, then a grey tabby appeared next to Ophelia. “Hi Ophelia! And hello, Dove, getting into the usual shenanigans?” Brookline snickered a little when she remembered when Tigeress and Dove ran off to play with the other. She realized she hadn’t laughed in a while, probably not since the start of winter break. It felt good to laugh.

Tarva had started towards the two Ravenclaws, and pecked at their layers. Brookline smiled a bit, and stroked Emily’s owl’s feathers a second before diverting her attention to the Hufflepuff. Emily had gotten up to hug her and Ophelia. Brookline returned the embrace, before spreading her lips into a small smile. Why does it hurt to smile? It never used to hurt to smile.

Emily smiled, and seemed to be happy. Brookline assumed she was frustrated, and was stuck in her thoughts. Then Emily confirmed, sorta, “I'd be a lot more cheerful if the world wasn't so dang complicated.”

Don’t we all know. The world just keeps getting harder and harder. Brookline tried not to sigh, the last thing she needed was her friends’ concern. It’ll just make those tears she had soaked her pillow during winter break come down faster and in front of public again. Brookline glanced back up when she noticed Ophelia asking a question.

She fidgeted for a second before catching sight of yet another owl. A little first year walked up, and Emily commented on her popularity with Ravenclaws. She gave the firstie a nod, and a small grin. Brookline smiled apologetically, her gaze soft as she realized the Ravenclaw Hufflepuff ratio here. Then the sole Hufflepuff threw a glance at her and Ophelia, and she wished she had better attention. But Brookline had gotten the gist. Emily had said she was alright, but the Welsh pure-blood just nodded, her gaze still soft as she agreed silently with Emily. She hated expressing her feelings, and clearly Emily had the same dislike. And Emily just laughed it off, her face bright.

Brookline smiled slightly before starting, “I wish the world was easier too. Especially some people. Some people can just make your life harder.” She sighed softly as she reflected her father’s perhaps, poorly chosen decisions. Sometimes the hurt was more raw then some days and the other days it was more angry then anything. Her memory was clicking slideshows of the past Christmas, and didn’t return to the present until she heard Ophelia’s voice. She was telling Dove ‘no’, as her kitty tried to lunge at the first year ’s owl.

Silva felt bad. She'd just randomly barged into a conversation between these three who seemed to be good friends. It appeared that before she'd arrived they'd been asking the first girl if she was ok, as the first girl quickly said she was doing ok to the other girls after saying inviting Silva to stay.

She ever so awkwardly sat down next to the 3 girls. Judging by some words the first girl had said earlier it seemed that they were all Ravenclaws who had joined the girl. She looked at the other two. Now that she thought about it, she did kind of recognize them. After all, one year wasn't too much of a difference in age. It just felt like a lot at Hogwarts.

One of the girls was a skinny brunette, while the other was also a seemingly skinny girl, but this time with a lighter brown, almost honey-like. Both seemed very pretty.

The conversation continued with Silva feeling completely out of place, until, suddenly the honey hair colored girl's cat leaped at the tree with the owls in it. She yelped and jumped up, but it was quickly handled as the cat was caught and the owner apologized. "Oh... uh... that's uh... ok...." She looked up at Skye and saw that the owl seemed fine so she relaxed again. Well, as relaxed as one could be in a group of strangers.

"Um.... I uh... don't really understand what your uh... talking about.... but..... I guess... the world is really complicated and uh..... it's... hard sometimes...." She felt like she had to contribute something to the conversation. Everyone seemed to be having deep thoughts, and she just wanted to go home. She did understand though. Maybe not whatever they were specifically talking about, but she understood that life was hard.

She decided to try and bring the conversation to a happier topic. "Umm... I might not know a lot about the uh.... wizarding world.. but I have read about a bunch of magical creatures..... have you ever... met a unicorn... or a werewolf.... or a..." what was it called again? "uh.. hag doll? Or something else like...... a centaur................" She looked at the others and wondered if she'd messed something up. She really hoped not.

Emily was cheering up already when Ophelia and Brookie came over but watching the trio of animals get up to their playful shenanigans was certainly lifting her mood even higher. While the pets mingled, Ophelia asked the golden question.

"Which particular complication are you talking about?"

Emily laughed in a half-chuckle, half-bitter tone. "Let me see... Hogwarts has seen some interesting revelations and creatures in recent times. Every rumour, every opinion and every little investigation... It's all a big circle of brain wrinkling."

She took a breath and laughed sincerely this time. "Sorry... I kind of went Shakespeare for a second there, didn't I? What I mean is that my efforts to see the world welcome magical beings as its equal keep getting smaller and smaller, overshadowed by new developments. Stronger developments. I feel I'm not doing enough, nor something strong enough to stop people living in fear over this whole kerfuffle."

Time and time again, Emily reminded herself changing the world wasn't going to be as easy as baking a cookie. What did annoy her however was that her solutions only felt half baked as long as the world kept evolving every waking minute. If only the world could just slow down a bit. Just a tiny bit. Enough for Emily to catch up. Enough for her to get ahead. To find a solution so Scout didn't feel so insecure. So that Tesla didn't feel so trapped in her own prison.

The littler bird then perked up.

"Have you ever... met a unicorn... or a werewolf.... or a... uh.. hag doll? Or something else like...... a centaur................"

"Oh I've seen quite a bit in such a short amount of time," Emily said, shaking her head as if she couldn't quite believe it still but with a fondness that told everyone she wouldn't change any of it for anything else.

"I have a friend who's a dhampir. Another who's a werewolf, though I've never seen them... You know... Oh! Don't tell anyone but I have seen a unicorn..." She still had to tell Scout about that endeavour. That was how precious that day meant to her. However, Emily frowned at the mention of Hag Dolls. She shivered at the single thought of them.

"And Hag Dolls... I've seen them too once. Only once. And I hope you lot never see them. Ever."

Ophelia listened thoughtfully as Emily listed out her multitude of problems. All of them, in some way, seemed to relate to magical creatures. Something about it all felt... familiar. She scrunched up her face in thought, then realising that it might make Emily, Brookline, or the new Ravenclaw first year who's name she'd just remembered from the sorting ceremony quite a while ago-- Silva!-- uncomfortable.

But something about Emily's words made a spot inside Ophelia's head itch. She wanted to scratch that itch, but it was like she couldn't figure it out. She blinked a few times, searching her memory for something, following the paper trails and bread crumbs until... Oh! Near the beginning of the year, in September, Emily, who was also the leader of the Little Acts of Kindness Club, had started a little activity called the Sanctuary Tree. Ophelia had paid the tree a visit with close to the same problems that she had now, though it hadn't helped her constantly in-motion brain much. But, during her time, she'd accidentally read a woe placed there by one of the users of the Sanctuary Tree. That person had written about helping half-humans. Ophelia hadn't made much of it at the time, but now... Of course it made sense that kind Emily was on a mission to help half-humans and all the magical beings of this world. And of course it made sense that the leader of the club had already placed a worry on the tree before the young Northwell had shown up.

For now, Ophelia decided to keep this little revelation to herself. She zoned back into the conversation to find Emily answering one of Silva's questions.

"A unicorn and hag dolls, already?" Ophelia smiled, more than a little impressed. Sure, she was a rule-follower, not at all inclined to visit the forest that had so bluntly been branded forbidden, but she knew plenty of others did venture into it, though not everyone went looking for a creature that might or might not be dangerous. "And here I've been, waiting for Care of Magical Creatures class to start up so I could learn about all the creatures in my textbooks."
