SLYTHERIN vs. RAVENCLAW
Prince passed Colin by, offering him a cheerful wave as she floated along. Colin smirked. This is a race, dear heart, not a pleasure cruise! Colin leaned into his broom and Vailerama responded with speed! As they plunged onward towards the savage thorns, it was three snakes and two birbs --- and of course Prince would have to take the opportunity to blatch June! And down she went! Too bad for her, but at least it was due to her awesomé strategising that they'd even gotten this far!
Two more sparrows tried to knock Vale and Colin out of the sky, but they were so easy to evade! Colin watched as Ari Gwild and Brook "Tree Hugger" Quinn missed their marks by a mile! "WOOOOOOOOO! Let's set them on fire, Ashwinder!" Colin shouted over to Vale!
As he blew by Dealla, wrackspurts dead ahead, he gave her a cheerful wave of his own and sang out: "Need help finding yer wand, lass? I'm sure it's around here --- somewhere!" And with a merry laugh Colin charged into the last obstacle. The wrackspurts seemed to pay him no mind and he blew through them with ease.
Almost as soon as he was out, his laughter was cut short.
Colin's eyes widened and he stopped dead!

Colin felt the old fear wash over him. He heard Aunt Aggy's voice rise up in his head. There on the end of his broom shaft sat Liam. His eyes --- dead. Colourless. Staring. All before and around them was darkness and the dead eyes stared into Colin's. He knew that if he reached out to touch him, Liam would be cold. Stiff. Cursa's voice echoed in his head. Colin reached out. Pollux's cold body was in his arms. Lor--- Voices from the summer resounded in his head. Accusing him. And now Liam. All cold. All staring, unseeing.
And then Liam vanished!
The world of light and cool air the chaos of the course dashed away the cold dark world of the dead. Kids were cheering like mad. The race must have been won. He looked around him. He saw Astra on the ground, not too far away. Snaps. Someone must have blatched her as well. Well, that was the end of it, then. Another resounding victory for the Curse of the Basilisk, no doubt. There would be cheer and partying up in Ravenclaw Tower later. Probably with poetry readings and a solid debate about the merits of the dark arts.
Colin resigned himself to yet another loss. They'd flown a good race, though! But whoever had cursed their team had done a really good job of it!
