Gala of Mysteries

Roleplaying as Hans Jenssen
Hans felt his stomach churn.
“Motherfucker,” he spat at Hedeon; patience, after all, was a limited grace. Resorting to his fists like an enraged child throwing a tantrum - pathetic for his age but he should have never thought of him higher than such lowliness. Malicious mischief was despicable enough, but violence was etched into these adolescents’ bloods, and they planned for no one to leave tonight’s celebration - barely that now - unscathed. The cold loathing in the elder Russian’s eyes did nothing to deter the young Hans, eager for righteousness, if only some small, comforting scrap of it. Now he understood the talk of peace being enforced, however hypocritical it may seem: there was not a shred of order in human nature, and children just happened to be little adults in diapers running around thinking they were something special just because they could throw around a few punches. Then, so coldly his own voice was foreign to him, “You humiliate yourself. I really hope you know that.” The more incompetent one feels, the more eager he is to fight.
There was not even a hint of fear in the maturing cub’s steely gaze, just pure, pure disgust. Eirenic as he intended to be, the boy stood unflinching, forcing his hands to unclench as he refused to raise them and lower himself to the levels of brawling. Head tipped upwards in stubborn challenge, what originally came as a natural protective reflex was kept with unwavering resoluteness, either not seeing the fist or not caring for it.
Truly beyond this intense desire to cope with not being able to right a permanent wrong was nothing more. Frustration was so evident in his voice whenever he spoke; defeat even more prevalent most days. Hans could not have cared less that the girl didn’t show the barest gratitude when he freed her from the roots holding her down - kindness, after all, was just a evil as much as any other if it forced payment onto who it was directed towards. Yet what vexed him was her mulish dead-set plan of fighting her way out. Not only was there any appreciation but also no consideration that she could take the chance to remove herself from the situation that caused her as much distress as it did. His support may not have been in vain but it sure felt like it was.
In a way he saw himself in the naïve Stonewall and it was not a comparison he particularly enjoyed indulging in. Brash, impulsive, so eager to fight, too blind to see the fall - everything he knew he should train out of himself if he was grow. He would engage in activities he now found to be childish tomfoolery with not intention to lighten the mood but absolute seriousness - there laid his and Elizabeth’s sin: not their play but perceiving their little games as larger than life. And when their games saw their downfall? They fight to protect all the dignity they had and they would do so with all their power through all the tears and blood. They yell and scream and curse for nothing. Hans knew how it was like to feel small, and how, like a little scared bear raising its fur, he would desperately make himself seem larger. But children, despite their straining attempts to shake themselves of the label, were children. What are they if not yearning to be seen and prove themselves? He could no longer pull his younger self out anymore, yet he could Elizabeth. There was almost pity in those brown eyes as Hans looked at her.
But he said nothing. The last time Hans had pulled someone out of flames he had been subjected to silence for what seemed like forever. There was no point in stepping in. He served his purpose, but there was none more she needed to do in return. She was no tool to fix his guilt. “And you. I can’t and won’t help you if you don’t want it so I’ll leave this to yourselves, but just know that both of you are only escalating the situation. Fucking chill out.” Flipping his wand in a vague gesture before pocketing the weapon with forced casualness, Hans put on a mask of plain indifference as he made his retreat. Although he would keep an eye on both of them, today’s was not his fight, and that at least he knew loud and clear. This wasn’t his fight; he would not make it his.

Amber smiled, as Casey shyly said thanks. She really meant it when she said it. However, she didn't find many people hard to talk to. Maybe that was because of her own personality. It honestly was lovely talking to more people, new or old. She loved talking to people in general. It was in her extroverted nature, she guessed.
“Well of course!!” she replied, maintaining her smile.
We moved on to the topic of the water race. While many thought of her as a competitive person particularly because of her nature during quidditch games, she wasn’t that competitive in things like water races that were meant just for fun. She wasn’t sure how the others took it, but she had been disappointed, for sure but not mad or angry at any one. And surely she had no want to blame it on Casey. After all, they were a team. And if nothing, she was a team player.
The topic moved off of water racing quite quickly too. Sooner or later they were talking about the fires, once again. She could see it angered Casey and that she was still recovering from the trauma of it. So was she.
Then finally, Casey turned around. Her ball partner! Well, that was great. At least his ball partner was here. Once Casey left with her ball partner, she would be alone. And she hated being alone. She just prayed that Miles would come sometime soon. If he didn't she would just go outside, and maybe try and find him.

MODERATION ROUND 10
Goodness gracious, no one should have expected less. Put a few insensitive and quite positively hormone-ridden teenagers together and you get absolute chaos.
Hedeon Karev (@Noah Jupe) had decided he wasn't being exactly lowly enough for his taste and ignoring his wand, opted to go for his fist instead as he, in all his pathetic and futile anger, struck a punch towards his much smaller target, @Elizabeth Stonewall. However, his guise of intimidation had not seemed to deter the younger and fearless Durmstrangnian Hans Jenssen, who, spewing some vulgarness out of his vexation, stepped between the unremorseful fireball and his victim. The racer usually had an impressive accuracy, but perhaps today he was too consumed by frustration himself to properly place himself. Whether he had acted out of intent or instinct did not matter when the older boy, controlled by petty rage, still managed to land a blow on the girl, whose attempt at evasion had been useless, despite the obstacle of flesh.ReducioHedeon's accuracy: [d20: 17]+(10+2) = 29 > Hans' bodyblock: [d20: 1]+10 = 11
29 > Elizabeth's evasion: [d20: 5]+16= 11
HP loss: [100*12*0.9]/5/2 (no martial artist) = 108
Elizabeth, however, despite the chiding of passers-by to leave her predicament for the hospital wing (she should probably have listened), was intent on proving she was not as impotent as she seemed. Despite her tears, her self-control was still in tact and she was prepared to fight both her dignity back and her way out. She certainly was resilient, and with a few more tricks up her sleeve than first meets the eye. With a swift flick of her wand and all the strength she could muster, she produced an almost perfectly-cast "flipendo". However, the story of our heroine wasn't all good. The spell would have hit, should have hit, but whether she was too blinded by her embarrassment or whether Hedeon just could not take the humiliation of being challenged by a second year, it missed, just so slightly.ReducioElizabeth's wisdom: [d20: 18]+6 = 24 > WDC: 9
Elizabeth's accuracy: [d20: 7]+7 = 14 < Hedeon's evasion: [d20: 1]+15 = 16
Needless to say, the commotion was sure to draw attention. A pair of two righteous boys entered the ball not to find themselves greeted by excitement or enjoyment, but violence. Ye-jun (@Eun-ji Lee Hunt) in particular was not one who could stand bullying and unlike Hans he had no qualms with brining down Hedeon, even if it meant using force himself. As his friend Tone Bakugo rushed to the girl's side, Ye-jun would rush to the boy's instead. Despite having kicked the Russian with all his might, the bully himself seemed to be skilled in evasion, and, having sidestepped the disadvantages his way, sent the Korean's attempt into nothing but air.ReducioYe-jun's accuracy: [d20: 10]+(12-2) = 20 < Hedeon's evasion: [d20: 9]+15 = 24
Following in Elizabeth's spell-casting footsteps was Allyssa Schmidt. With her own shout of Flipendo after talking things out failed her as it did everyone, she too would only fail. Though her spellwork was fine enough, Hedeon was quite frankly invincible to any attacks, having easily evaded her. It seemed as if Schmidt's command for the two to separate would not be carried out so easily. Instead, her spell redirected towards a newcomer, @Louisa McStately, who, though maybe startled, dodged it easily enough.ReducioAllyssa's wisdom: [d20: 9]+7 = 16 > WDC: 9
Allyssa's accuracy: [d20: 1]+7 = 14 - Crit miss
New target: Louisa
14 < Louisa's evasion: [d20: 15]+9 = 24
Perhaps Elizabeth would use the time bought, however, to make her escape. Ignore, ignore, ignore, that's what's taught to kids about bullies wasn't it?

Louisa McStately gasped in surprise as she dodged a spell which now shot straight past her. Whatever was happening? She turned checking her surroundings for danger hurriedly. While the commotion in the center of the room surely could have been classified as danger, she felt a little reassured when she realized that the attention had been on two others in the room.
Louisa took a deep breath, trying to figure out exactly how she felt. Scared? After all a spell had just been sent her way! But no, the spell hadn’t been aimed for her had it? Angry? But her caster hadn’t meant to send it into her, had they? Proud? Oh, well, the dodge had been good, but that wasn’t the point! Confused? Yes, that was more like it!
Louisa attempted an unsuccessful smile nervously and stood up, her heart beating violently. She quietly and on alert made her way towards the center of the room. Whatever was going on? This was supposed to be a ball, wasn’t it? Not a dualing club! She looked around nervously hoping for someone to converse with. This was surely the sort of situation where a friend was worth having. But even as she looked for a friend, she was prepared to jump straight out of the way should another spell come towards her.

Last Minute Chit-Chat with Amber Frost Hart @Reyna Evergreen
It appeared that Casey's suspicions were proven true when the familiar tone of his Hogwarts friend circulating the dance floor finally reached his ears. Yep. It was her alright. With another quick scan of the crowd he finally found her dancing alone but not looking lonely or left out. In fact, if Casey didn't know any better, the boy was thinking she was enjoying the solitary dance session.
"'Bout time I finally found her..." Another grumble rocked his throat before turning back to Amber. "I suppose it's my time to bounce. But hey, give it another ten minutes, fifteen tops. If your date hasn't turned up, then come find me again. My friend over there's pretty social. She won't say no to extra company." Which could either be a comfort or a warning depending on how social Amber was. Emily took the concept of "social butterfly" and amplified it by five.
"See ya round."
He winked at Amber before slinking off in Emily's direction, keeping his hands in and his head low as he navigated the kerfuffle going on with some other students. Fleeting snippets of conversations about spells or something zipped between his ears as he made his way over to the Huffie.
When he was close enough he surprised her when he caught her shoulders and peeked over to her side.
"Yo".
"Casey!" Immediately Emily flung her arms around him, squishing him with her snug. Casey's face went through mixed stages of groans and embarrassment, wriggling under her touch as he tried to pry her off of him.
"Hey-- Ju-- Gerroff...! Ugh... C'mon Em--"
Emily released him, still giddily smiling at him. "You decided to come after all...!"
"Of course I did. I said I would."
"But you don't really seem like the kind of guy to really like things like this."
"I don't," Casey said bluntly. "But since I wasn't blown up and you asked me to come, I figured I'd give you company."
That earned him another powerful snug from Emily which again needed a bit of struggle before he could gently get her off him. "So, what now?"
"Since we're already here... Show me your best dance moves!" Emily took Casey's hands and pulled him to her. Casey meanwhile looked back at her with awkward shyness.
"Wait, Em... I don't da--AAance!"
Emily was already spinning him around on the spot, smiling gleefully as she led. "Come on! I know for a fact you don't have two left feet!"

Roleplaying as Lee Ye-jun from Beauxbatons – Encyclopedia
Violet in English, Red in Korean and Blue in FrenchRight...of course the exact thing he was worried about, happened. Ye-jun should have known better than to barge in, throwing kicks without thinking or focusing properly. The rage never served him well besides, he was always more of a puncher than a kicker. At least the miss made him momentarily cool down. That is, until Hedeon's punch landed. The fucker really did it. He actually went ahead and hit the little girl. Once again, Ye-jun saw red. What kind of lowlife did he have to be to hit a kid?
The brief hesitation he felt after failing his own attack was gone just as quickly as it came. Truthfully, rather than him missing an ill aimed kick, the Beauxbatons student thought it much more embarrassing seeing a boy his age hitting a little girl. Luckily, the girl in question finally took a hint and removed herself from the situation. And yet, Ye-jun still couldn’t let go of his anger. Bullying was a sore spot for him. The one thing that was guaranteed to make him loose his cool every time. It felt unfair that the boy would leave the situation unscathed. Coward. He should learn how it feels to be punched back at the very least. And with that thought, the Korean boy threw a punch of his own, aimed to the instigator’s stomach. The concentration still wasn't quite there but the determination sure as hell was.
Somewhere at the back of his mind, Ye-jun was scared he would lose himself in the heat of the moment again but luckily, he soon felt someone tugging at him, attempting to drag him away. Away from the conflict and the prison of his own mind. He was still a bit disorientated but he let it happen all the same since he wasn’t sure if he would be able to stop on his own. Unconsciously, he knew it was for the best so he didn't fight it.
