2024/25, Stage 1 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 3

Nicky was surprised that the two weaker hufflepuffs were still standing, even if their condition was far from perfect. She respected their willpower because they probably had a lot of it if they hadn't been dragged off to the infirmary yet. However, that didn't stop her from focusing on the duel and on winning. She had to make her house proud. She was hungry for the win like any lion would be.

Rose cast the Blasting Curse again towards the Hufflepuffs, but Hades quickly conjured a shield, dissolving both her spell and Kim's. She growled under her breath- admittedly, it was a well-done shield charm. Julian, again, didn't do anything, but she guessed that had to do with how much he seemed to be struggling at the moment, and Elsa's successful fire-making spell certainly wasn't helping him out. It did, however, help out the Gryffindors, who seemed to be inching ever closer to victory.

So close! He was so close! He had tried to get Kim, but his spell hadn't hit him full on... The duel was completely falling apart. Julian and Hades were on the defensive. Nobody had gotten Jake yet, or even tried...But that wouldn't matter soon, when he had no team-mates standing. And both of them looked like they had taken quite a beating in this one...Julian was still under the effects of many spells - now he was burning! Hades was still fighting but Jake knew that he couldn't take much more of this, he was on his last legs....He looked around trying to think how to save this, how to salvage the fight, rescue his team, somehow even the odds. The more he thought about it the more impossible it seemed.

Hades was well aware that he had very little left, and could already see how he barely stood up, not because of the pain, but because he had been impacted by spells several times and could swear that bruises would come out. In this round, he realized that he had little left but wanted to have at least one chance to continue fighting. So he had to pull the ace out of his sleeve to prevent them from wanting to hurt him even more.

He did not know how, but felt that they were going to come for him, anticipating events to perform the protective spell "Protego!" He shouted, Kim and Rose who cast two spells in his direction, but his protego did dispel both spells impressively. He walked down to Julian to make sure he was “Are you all right?” Hades asked in a soft voice. Not much left in it but he wanted to keep trying. He was a fighter.

It was downright humilliating. Had Julian gotten to even cast a spell in this duel? He could scarcely remember. Moping, of course, was of very little use, but the pressure in his sinuses and the constricted breathing made him light -headed and it felt like taking a single step would land him directly on the floor again. So he just stood there, drowning in self pity, until the other team moved and his sleeve was suddenl on fire. no doubt wreaking havoc on the skin at his wrist. Except he was out of it, the pain felt rather distant.

"'m fine. " His weak reply to Hades was a baldfaced lie, of course, but he didn't see what would be gained from telling the truth. "'I just need to--. " He raised the offending arm, gesturing weakly with his wand to imply he needed to get a handle on the fire. Any second now, he start shaking it to put the flame out. Any second now.

There was life yet in this duel despite the scales swinging in an obvious direction. In the lead, the Gryffindor side seemingly decided to play it safe and focus primarily on healing the wounded Kim who took some slight damage from Julian's cracker jinx. Less fortunate was Elsa who was caught entirely in the radius blast as her fire-making spell split into two -- an impressive feat. Her targets were up to the task, however, as they avoided getting hit.

Meanwhile the Hufflepuffs went on the attack. An impressive feat given how shaken up two of the duellists were beginning to look. Julian in particular seemed to be on borrowed time as flames engulfed him. Blessedly for him, Jake had noticed and managed to douse at least one of the fire spreading across his body. For now he was still up -- as was Hades whose own cracker jinx did not quite crack nor jinx.

Everybody was still up but it was yet to be seen how long that would last.

Nicky winced as she got hit by Jake's spell. She liked to think of herself as a person who was pretty good at evading attacks in a match and this was the first time in the duel when she couldn't avoid getting struck by her opponents. However, she couldn't let that affect her as her teammates were depending on her. They had to win this duel.

Rose managed to heal Kim for a decent amount while Kim's own spell was pretty decent, although he was still learning about the ins and outs of this. He'd begun to like healing more and more ever since his life had changed and as a result had started to use it more often too. Although, Kim wasn't as good at healing as Rose, one day he'd be as good as her, if not better! It was always good to have some healthy competition! Plus Kim had Eun-ji and Rose to help him learn a bit more.

Unfortunately, Elsa missed her spell spread Incendio Duo. But that was fine, duelists missed all the time. But that didn't mean they would lose the war. Jake cast Extinguo on Julian and was successful, while Julian cast Cracker Jinx at all of them. The main target being Rose. But his spell failed to hit its main target by just a dot which was lucky for them. Unfortunately, the spell managed to hit Elsa and Kim got struck by the tail end of it too. But the damage wasn't too bad 4 him.

Not to mention the fact that Kim was feeling much better now.

Maybe he could survive for the rest of the match. Hades tried to cast the same spell as Julian but unlike the latter, Hades must have let the pressure get to him. His spell veered off course and instead of going towards his opponents, it headed towards his own teammate. Julian. But Julian was able to evade it easily which was good for the badgers. Hades would have probably felt guilty and mad if he'd been the one to take out his own teammate. But as it was, everyone was still up...

But probably not for much longer. Eventually, someone would go down. It was only a matter of time before that happened to someone.

Kim needed some help. He had been fighting vigilantly, but it was clear that he was getting pretty close to defeat. Rose turned her wand on him, instead, leaving Nicky to be on offense. However, other than Kim and Rose, who healed Kim, and Jake, who extinguished Julian, the others didn’t seem to be aiming super well. Hades’ spell swerved from its target to shoot towards both of his teammates, and Julian’s spell, while aimed at Rose, hit both of her teammates with the blast. She let out a breath, grateful her instincts had kicked in and she had dodged the jinx. She looked over to her teammates, who seemed to be doing alright.

In this round, he could see that it was getting more intense, knowing they were coming to the sixth round, amazing! He was looking at his face with obvious concern, knowing that in his experience they were reaching the final stages of the duel. Julian was in a situation quite similar to that of Hades, who had been repeatedly beaten with all the spells.

In this round, he wanted to perform the Nec Divinos Crepitus, a spell he had never performed before in a duel. He had hopes but the spell did not work as he had hoped. It worked for Julian who directed the spell at Rose “How awesome!” he complimented in a soft voice. Hades stood observing Kim closely, wondering how he was feeling since he suffered too.

Or Hades guessed, because it wasn’t great to be hit by spells.
