Karina walked through the great hall. All of the Christmas trees were shinning miraculously in the light. It was officially Holiday season! Tons of holidays to celebrate, tons to do to prepare for them, and Karina was beginning to feel overwhelmed. She wanted to do so much, now that today it had finally snowed!

After classes, Karina ran towards her common room, she needed to go outside before the others do! A few older students and teachers had allowed them all to go outside after classes, that is of course with some supervision, to make sure nothing violent goes on.

Karina threw on her coat, hat, and boots and hurried towards the large doors. Just as she cam to open them, she was stopped by a ghost who called out from behind her.

"It's hailing out side, dear. I don't think you'd want to go out in that weather."

Karina looked down at her boots, and then heard some ice crash against the hall's door. She sighed, what was she going to do now?

She decided to ask some other students if they wanted to make hot chocolate with her. Or maybe decorate the school? Or maybe start a Secret Santa? Or get all of the professors a gift for Christmas?

Whoever decided to help Karina do all of those things, Karina's day wouldn't be so bad after all.

𝕽uth Fairchild was bored.

Winter was truly one of her favourite seasons(besides Autumn, which will top everythingβ€”) as she enjoyed the aura the season brought along; be it the carols, the smell of pine, the festive decorations, the lively atmosphere, the presents. Oh, don’t forget the snow, which happened to be the most important aspect of winter. Ruth, while having seized most of the opportunities to go out to the grounds and the Great Lake for walks, hadn’t been able to get enough. Now that the season had gotten colder and grounds far more slippery than Ruth would have enjoyed, the poor girl was stuck cooped up in the grand castle of Hogwarts.

It wasn’t too bad. Ruth could spend days exploring every nook and cranny (not that she has done that) and drink in more information about the wizarding world (halfway done, surely). However, she would miss the time she walked along, admiring the ever expanding scenery, the fantasy of it all. Barely half a year into attending the school, and Ruth was still awestruck by everything.

For now, though, she was bored.

Ruth grumbled to herself, laying her head on one of the tables of the Great Hall. She had found her legs trudging towards the venue rather than the library, probably still reminiscing the treats given to them at the bauble errand. She still had yet to owl the wreathe she had made to her family, but couldn’t bring herself to walk up the endless flight of stairs up to the library.

Besides, Ruth tried to soothe herself. The tree reminds you of home, doesn’t it? Turning her head but still resting on the wood, Ruth admired the Christmas tree the school had decorated together. Its grandeur was outmatched, and was by far the largest Christmas tree Ruth had ever seen. A twang of heartache thrummed in her chest when Ruth realised for the umpteenth time that she wouldn’t be home for Christmas to celebrate with her family.

Oh well. Ruth shrugged off the negativity and stretched, glancing around. What should she do…

Avery walked about the castle in awe. The twinkling lights on the large Christmas tree reminded her of home. There were small decorations everywhere illuminating the halls and filling them with more magic. Avery wanted to be excited about Christmas, but she couldn't be just yet. Unfortunately this Christmas would be different for Avery. She was stuck spending Christmas at Hogwarts instead of visiting her hometown of Swansea in Wales.

Avery sighed as she continued her walk down to the Great Hall. She didn't know how she would spend her time over Christmas break. She thought about writing a letter to home, but she didn't know what to say. They were probably too busy to read it anyway. Then again, maybe they would actually read it, and allow her to come home. The only reason they kept her at Hogwarts anyway was because things at home were extremely "busy".

Finally Avery made it into the Great Hall where she sat down at the nearly empty Gryffindor table. Most students had gone home for Christmas to spend time with their families, but the few that were still at school were here. Avery sighed again and laid her head against the table. Not quite ready to eat yet.

Ira had never warmed to winter, never in her life. It trapped her indoors like a bird in a cage, and took its toll on her beloved garden. This particular season seemed to drain the color from her days, leaving everything as dull as the winter sky. The only silver lining was the holiday, her one breath of fresh air in the middle of the chill.

All Ira could do was stare out the windows with an aching sense of longing. True, she couldn’t step outsideβ€”unless she was willing to face the biting cold, which she most certainly wasn’t. Inside the castle, however, there would be plenty to keep her mind busy. Yet the gloomy weather seemed to steal her energy, leaving her utterly tired.

Still, the thought of a steaming cup of hot chocolate was just the motivation she needed to make her drag herself out of bed and slip into warm clothes. Ira, arms crossed to ward off the chill, made her way to the Great Hall. Her eyes scanned the surroundings, lingering on the decorations and the grand Christmas tree. It was a quiet scene, with only a handful of students scattered around.

Ira walked toward the Hufflepuff table, helped herself to a cup of hot chocolate, and that’s when she spotted Ruth Fairchild sitting there. Her face immediately turned cold, her lips curling in disdain as though the very sight of Ruth left a bitter taste lingering on her tongue
