Determined. She was determined to find answers. Too long had June left this matter unresolved. It was more than the racing team at this point, the timing was too convenient. It was a matter of principle, of clearing her name. Or perhaps, it was a sign from whatever forces existed, pushing June into a field of magic.
Whichever it was wasn't important. Answers is what June needed, closure. She'd found no answers in any of the Defense Against Dark Arts textbooks, nor in the titles she found in the library. One place remained before she would need to turn to adults for their knowledge, which while possible, was almost like admitting defeat. June had come so far on her own, she was determined to press her luck to the absolute end.
It was a bit of a challenge to find the librarian in the sprawling library, but eventually, June found him doing... Well, whatever his author writes him doing in the next post. With a deep breath for confidence, June approached to ask the improbable.
"Mr. Sáez? I'm June Selwyn, I don't know if you recognize me, I'm Slytherin's racing captain and the new prefect." Was it necessary for June to give the context of her captaincy? Not necessarily. Had the girl done her research into the librarian's life and found he himself was a broom racer and was going to try and tug at his heart that way? Absolutley. "If you have a moment, I have a request, it's tangentially related to this," she handed him the worn copy of the Headliner article she often kept in her bag these days.

To Allow What Is Restricted
On this cold wintery day, Mateo found himself nostalgic. Though this itself wasn't a rare occurrence, he never much found himself reminiscing on his days at Castelobruxo. Not that he didn't love school - after all, what sort of librarian would he be if he despised learning - but that time of his life had been different. Today, in particular, as it had been a quieter day, he found himself digging up an old photo album of memories from his tenure on the racing team. The photos had been taken in his fourth - maybe fifth - year, prior to the accident and his eventual leaving of the team. He still wasn't the most comfortable in the air, but he did miss the comradeship he had established in those years. Being the librarian at Hogwarts was a more solitary job than he had initially realised.
But his duties would distract him from his nostalgia, and he would look up with a smile to greet the student that had approached. He recognised her somewhat, though with the large number of students that passed through the library doors, that was the case with most students. There was definitely some other place he recognised her name, however.
"Good afternoon, Ms Selwyn," he greeted her. "It's great to see you."
Taking the article from her outstretched hand, he skimmed it quickly, and the place where he recognised her name from became quickly apparent. "I'm familiar. I'm sorry for your streak of losses though. I can definitely point you towards some books on racing and strategy if that's what you're looking for."WC: 263| Interaction: @June Selwyn

[quote]Books on racing and strategy. Ouch. She couldn't blame him, though, he was only trying to help. Hopefully he could. "Thank you, but I've read most of the collection here. It might sound ridiculous, Mr. Sáez, but I can't particularly rule out the possibility that our team might have been..." she looked at the ground, ever so slightly embarrassed, "cursed." June said it so quietly that the librarian might have needed her to repeat it.
"The hypnosis or whatever it was during our race last year the first time it seemed we were going to win, I can't shake it off. I would ask Professor Lécuyer but I am wary that he won't take my inquiry seriously. So, I would like to do some research myself before asking him, or anyone for that matter. Build a case if need be, or dismiss the very idea of this from my mind."
June's speech began to speed, her nerves and perhaps the weight of this constant thought battering about in her head beginning to show. "I've searched nearly every book on the matter this library has and I can't conclude if it's even possible. No book out here will tell me if or how one could curse a team or a group, let alone how to undo it. A gathering curse? A curse on a non-familial line? I have no idea what I'm even looking for here, but I know that it could only be found in there," without even thinking, June pointed to the restricted section. Right, well, the beginning of the ask was out there. "I was wondering if you would be willing to help me peruse the books in the restricted section to try and find an answer, I'll agree to any necessary constraints, I just, I just..." Her voice trailed off as the flow of words dwindled, left with only sheer determination.
The Slytherin prefect looked the young man in the eyes, emotional and filled with purpose. "I have to at least try, Mr. Sáez. For my team." A half-truth.

"Cursed?"
This thought, surprisingly enough, was not the first time it had passed in Mateo's mind. Sports were a tricky subject, and when suffering so many consecutive losses, it was easy enough to conclude that some more nefarious and dark thing was behind the defeats. Mateo couldn't blame the poor girl for worrying about it.
As the girl continued, it did become soon apparent what her intended goal of the day was. And Mateo could sympathise with this desperation, this final attempt to do anything you could to find an answer. So many losses could make one go mad, and from the captain's perspective, make you feel like you'd done a pretty horrible job at leading the team.
But the rules were clear, and the rules were the rules. He couldn't show favouritism, that wouldn't be fair to any other students that would ask this of him. However, Ms Selwyn's story had really touched him, and he really did understand where this ask was coming from. Sighing, he leaned in a little closer, lowering his voice a little. What he was about to offer wasn't explicitly against the rules - but it was definitely not something he would offer out to everyone either.
"Whilst I cannot let you enter the Restricted Section... there may be something else I can do. When you so wish to read it, I can take out such a book for you - nothing too advanced, of course - and let you read it at a table near to my desk so I can keep a careful eye on you, and make sure you do not run off with this book or do anything else irresponsible. When you are finished for the time being, you can return it to me, and I will replace it in the Restricted Section.
I do sympathise with your frustration - I was a broom racer back in the day at school, so I do understand how much losses can sting. So, I should let you know that this is not an opportunity I offer to many students, but this is the best I can manage for you."WC: 353| Interaction: @June Selwyn
