[quote]─────𝕀t had been a no-brainer for Accalia, the moment she had spotted the announcement for the great wizarding schools potions championship, she did not hesitate, after all this was a chance to compete at something within the school, she barely even paid attention to what the contest was about as her quill scratched her name on the parchment in bold strokes, sealing with it her determination to challenge this championship and hopefully come through with great results.
The details honestly didn't concern her at first, victory being all that was in mind for her. But as she reread the rules, she noticed one detail that gave her pause, she needed a team to compete, cursing silently to herself that she'd not spotted this one detail, she was going to have to pull on some of her recently made friendly contacts, but whom would be ideal?

Leaning back against the noticeboard, arms crossed, on hand on her shoulder while the other pulled at her mass of tangled fiery locks, she let her mind race through those she now called friend, Michael? No, he complained enough about her dragging him on her morning runs, he'd hate having to do potions, Lisa? Accalia hadn't seen much of her since their first night at the grand banquet, she hoped that she was alright, she knew she couldn't turn to one of her upper year friends, they had enough on their plates already without chasing after her whims.

Then the first of the names struck her, she stopped tangling her hair around her finger and placed her fist into the palm of her other hand.
"Of course! It is so obvious!" She remarked aloud, thinking to her self-adopted little sister, and trainee in all things fitness, Eonaria, or Eo as Accalia called her.

Eo had a quiet brilliance, a true knack for these sorts of things that though hidden behind her shy exterior, was never lost on Accalia, heck it had been one of the reasons she'd been so keen to train her, and in doing so she had seen Eo start to break her shell more and more.
She'd be perfect, 'And' Accalia thought 'this will be perfect to build her confidence and encourage her further.'
Besides which, they shared a dorm, which meant that the strategizing and practice for this contest would be rather easy, still that left their merry band in need of a third, a Friar Tuck to their Little John and Robin Hood.

As Accalia returned to her thinking, resting the sole of her boot now against the board as she pulled at a particularly vexing knot, her thoughts drifted to other friends, Dawn? No, Colette? Far too busy, she briefly thought of Silva but that wouldn't work either, then Accalia remembered and she felt the need to practically facepalm, if it had been any more obvious it would have bitten her, after all Accalia knew she was all about the methodical approach and her precision was astounding, not to mention how many times she'd been assisting her, just recently they were reiterating the difference between cooking, frying, brewing, boiling and baking, much to the pain of Accalia's mind as they all seemed to produce similar results, it simply had to be her! It was the best and most logical option! "Nabibi" Accalia remarked aloud, giving a curt nod, she had made her perfect team, now all that lay was to convince them to share in that dream.

She signed them up alongside her then and there, after all, she would think of ways to convince them to take part alongside her later, she was certain even if she just asked them that they'd be willing to.

Convincing Eonaria was relatively easy, Accalia had swung her around by suggesting that it would be another form of training, they'd been doing regular PT sessions for a little over a month by this point and she was already marveling at how much it was building the slightly taller girls confidence out, Eo had agreed with a hesitant smile, more for Accalia's sake than her own.

Nabi on the other hand, well, Nabi required a little more persuasion. "Barbarian, I am not interested in theatrics," she had stated flatly when Accalia first approached her about the subject.

"This isn't theatrics though Nabibi, it's all about that strategium thing you were telling me about last time, y'know, out-thinkin' your opponents and the like" She leaned forward with intensity as she insisted.
"You're literally the most precise person I know, we'd be unstoppable with you leading the team, its that anal stuff you were talking about, uh.. anal repetitiveness?" she asked quizzically as she tried to ponder over what it was that Nabi had remarked upon last time, Accalia had asked why she was so fixated upon the right order of things and she had stated back about how being anally retentive meant that you never got things wrong.
"that makes you a killer in our team!" She finished her sentence off after puzzling over the turn of phrase, admittedly she had not paid entire attention when last Nabi told her of it.

After a long silence, with Nabi looking wide eyed at Accalia, wondering if she knew the difference in verbiage that she had used as opposed to the standard, she gave forth a disgruntled sigh.
"Fine! But only because I refuse to let you ruin a perfectly good competition with your chaos! And I will be the leader! Listen to me during the contest or I will walk out" she remarked firmly, to which Accalia had beamed bright, wrapping Nabi into a bone-crushing hug.

"Absolutely! Thank you Nabi!" she cheered, delighted that her friend was going to give it her best at the very least.

And so, in the end she'd been able to convince both girls to join her, Accala's grin that eve could have lit up the entirety of the school, the day of the first challenge could not come soon enough!

---

The morning of the first challenge dawned bright and crisp, a subtle mist hanging in the air, and as her usual habit Accalia was up and about, throwing herself from her bed with unlimited energy, she dashed over to Eonaria, shaking her awake "Today's the day! Today's the day" she had eagerly chanted much to the annoyance of other girls in the dorm still trying to sleep.
Sure they may have gotten used to their bunk-mates early rises, but still, this morning she was particularly loud.
One of the girls ending up throwing a pillow at Accalia to get her to shut it, the pillow arcing through the air and narrowly missing her head as she dodged it, giving a laugh and setting off on her usual morning jog.

The school grounds were quiet this early in the day, naught but the sounds of ghosts conversing through the halls, the early light casting long shadows over the cobblestone paths, Accalia's mind was alive, buzzing with thoughts of the competition that was set to take place later in the day; rehearsing through her mind the ingredients, the techniques, the steps they'd rehearsed, the roles that they'd been assigned, picturing and planning it all out as her feet tread their steady beat upon the cobbles, she'd run this route so often by now that each stone was beginning to feel familiar to her, she nodded and waved at a few ghosts as she passed them by, she'd been trying her best to remember all of their names, and by how they smiled at her as she went it was clear that the effort had been worth it, she was clearly developing a good reputation among the ghost community.

She enjoyed her morning jog, her thoughts of the contest briefly out of her mind until she heard the announcement that it was set to begin soon, cursing to herself as she had ended up on the opposite side of the school, she doubled down, sprinting through the halls in an attempt to get to the grand hall faster, she would apologise later if she upset any prefects or teachers.

By the time she finally arrived at the grand hall, her heart was pounding, not from exertion, it would take far more than that short sprint to exhaust the girl, but from anticipation, stepping through the great doors she marveled, the grand hall was unrecognizable, transformed into a full blown potions lab that would rival any!

Rows of spectators filled the stands, their chatter blending into a low hum, long tables were arranged in neat rows, all equipment needed laid out ready for the contestants, and the back of the hall was adorned with all manners of ingredients, more than Accalia had even imagined could be used within potions, the air practically humming with excitment.

Accalia, feeling the surge of adrenaline for performing in front of all these people, entered with an energetic flair, hands raised as though already victorious.
Behold! Your future champions!” she declared jokingly, spinning dramatically and bowing to the crowd, earning a smattering of laughter echoed from the stands, and she grinned, that was when she realized she was literally the last of the students to arrive, it appeared that over at their designated station, Nabi and Eonaria were already preparing, Nabi having meticulously organised the ingredients and perfectly measured the required amount of water into the cauldron, expression focused, a tad annoyed about something, Accalia supposed it was probably her tardiness, but overall she got the sense that nothing at this stage would shake Nabi.

Eonaria for her part, was focusing on the fire seeds, her expression seemed a lot more fearful, nervous energy bursting forth from her as though she were petrified of the many eyes staring down at them.

Her cockiness turned into only the barest slight of embarrassment, she dashed over to meet up with Nabi and Eonaria, checking over the assigned roles that they'd each been working on and seeing that the roles were indeed correctly adjusted upon the potion recipe.

Still, this was meant to be fun, Accalia was not wholly ashamed by her late arrival, it was time for some jesting and another cheer!
"Starting without me?" she teased, sliding into her spot and taking up the knife ready to do the majority of the ingredient prep and as she affectionately called it, grunt work.

"We are going to fry up the best potion!" she cheered at the top of her lungs, much to the puzzled look of some of the students who had overheard her, after all the chosen potion didn't even require fire, much less hot enough oils to fry anything.

Grabbing the bat spleens, Accalia carefully, chopped them, her knife moving with surprising precision as she diced bat spleens into uniform cubes, before pouring them into the cauldron, stepping back to allow Nabi to properly stir, knowing the finer points of the task were in safe hands with their unofficially official leader.

As Nabi stirred the potion, Accalia turned her attention towards Eo, she'd not be needed for a while yet, after all there was no point cutting up the valarian root too early and letting its properties spoil, so instead she was getting ready to assist with the fire-seed if required and cheering Eonaria on “You’ve got this,” Accalia whispered, her voice low and reassuring, letting her know that she was there if she needed.

XXXEonaria was sulking gloomily in the Great Hall.

XXXNo, she was kidding.

XXXEonaria was panicking greatly in the Great Hall.

XXXShe sat on the floor, half hidden next to the wall. To an outsider, she might have seemed to be staring at a particularly fascinating patch of stone floor, but inside, Eonaria's thoughts were rampaging around like fragile hippos chased by a colony of wasps, all while her stomach squirmed with an uneasy feeling. Okay, perhaps that analogy was a bit extreme, her thoughts weren't harsh enough to be hippos. But being reduced to sitting on the floor, knees squished against her chest and biting her fingernails in terror, wasn't the greatest feeling.

XXXMore and more people arrived, the spectators scattering to the stands and some of them shooting her odd looks, while the contestants found their group members and began discussing. Finally, Eonaria realized that sitting here in nervousness wouldn't do her any good, so she got up and headed to their designated station, where, to her surprise, Nabi Park already was. She had never met the Slytherin before, though her appearance was quite striking. She mumbled a quick apology and put on a pair of protective gloves to grab some fire seeds from the ingredients table. Wait a minute, don't we only need one? I- oops. She put a few of them back.

XXXEonaria glanced around the Great Hall, anxious as she realized that the contest had already started and their final team member, her very favorite unofficially adopted sister Accalia, was nowhere to be found. Did she get lost? Ah, there's no way. Accy doesn't get lost... I mean, I think so. Well, anyone could get lost, but like- Eeeeeek..!! She nearly dropped the fire seed on the floor in her anxiety, fumbling to catch it, before the doors burst open again, announcing Accalia's dramatic entrance as she twirled around and raised her hands in the air like she already won.

XXXEonaria cringed in second hand embarrassment, a fresh wave of terror, and an underlying sense of relief. At least she's here...! She waved her over frantically, her feet doing random things in jitters. Oh goodness, I have to calm down. I can't!! Ack! Accalia whispered encouragement to her, most likely noticing her panic- Oh, who was she kidding?? Eonaria was sure everyone in the room could just feel the waves of anxiety rolling off of her! "Hi." She squeaked. "Thanks."

| Note: Thoughts, Speech |

Nabi woke up early, as per her usual routine. It was still dark, so she figured she might as well light a candle and proofread the process for the Dog's breath potion. Normally she would go for a run first thing in the morning but opted against it at least for the potions championship she had reluctantly agreed to enter, What a hassle...this better be good. Originally she did not plan on agreeing seeing as she saw no benefit in wasting her time with a girl who kept calling the process of brewing, cooking and another girl she had never even met before, but after giving the championship a thought, she decided she may as well enter for the sake of beating the other competitors.

She made her way to the Great Hall where the first stage of the competition would be held, the Great Hall was buzzing with fellow competitors. Many were already in their groups, whispering amongst each other what she assumed were their strategies. Nabi calmly made her way to the area her group was assigned. Are all Gryffindors unpunctual? She hummed in thought, unamused by the two Gryffindors. She calmly glanced over the ingredients as she mentally checked off the list; no doubt, she was there to win.

As she finalizes her mental list, Nabi glances over to see a young hesitant Gryffindor walk towards the station. Safe to assume you are the other Gryffindor, Miss. Nabi gave a short hum in acknowledgment of the girl's apology, "As long as you are here now, Miss". She said nothing else to the young girl as her eyes flickered over the crowd, Miss Avalon...you better show up soon before I lose my patience. Expressionlessly, she measured out all the required ingredients; her movements swift and precise.

There is no room for hesitation if you want to win.

Nabi observed the other Gryffindor's timorous behavior in silence, wonderful, one is late and the other one is unnerved, her thoughts were interrupted by the sudden yell emerging from Accalia, causing a spectacle upon herself, how boorish of her. Late and unashamed. Nabi hummed again, clearly unamused by the scene Accalia made and her tardiness. The other girl's jittery state did not go unnoticed by Nabi as she raised an eyebrow but remained silent. She watched as Accalia made her way over to their group's designated area and said nothing to the redhead's attempt to lighten the mood. Her eyes narrowed in slight annoyance as Accalia tested her fate by using the term frying to describe the process of making the dog breath potion.

At least she is not completely useless... Nabi silently observed Accalia cut the bat spleens with adequate precision. She glanced over to the other Gryffindor who she had not introduced herself to, She seems skittish...Merlin give me patience. She gave a soft hum in response before taking over the cauldron, she gave the potion a stir at a steady pace clockwise while she quietly kept tabs on the two potential liabilities she had as teammates. She waited for the skittish girl to add the fire seed into the cauldron. For the most part, she kept her eyes on the potion, ensuring that it all went perfectly.

─────"𝖄our welcome Eo, you're doing great, just breathe and take it slow, we don't need to rush, heck most of this potion is going to be spent waiting around" She joked, helping further calm Eo's nerves, when they were calmed and the fire seed now under control, Accalia turned her attention to Nabi, who was steadily stirring the pot clockwise.
There was a nagging sensation in the back of her mind, like an itch she couldn’t quite reach. Something felt off and her eyes scanned their workstation until the source of her unease became clear, stepping forward she gently took hold of Nabi’s wrist, noting the slightest tensions and halting the repetitive motion.

"Whoa, hold on there speed-racer," Her eyes softened as she met Nabi’s stoic and almost constantly annoyed gaze, offering her a warm and reassuring smile.

"Nabibi, you don't need to stress, we're going to get through this just fine, just... careful with over stirring yeah?" She remarked, her voice soft and gentle, reassuring her teammate as best she could/
"The instructions mentioned only a single turn if I am not mistaken, so no need to rush it, right?" Her tone was kind, gentle and free of criticism, but as firm as it needed to get her message across.
She absolutely did not want to step on her teammate’s toes, but the stakes were too high for even small mistakes and she could feel the weight of their shared responsibility pressing down on all of them, for fair reason after all, they were among the youngest in the room, and that pressure was enough to make anyone second-guess themselves.

With the stirring corrected, Accalia stepped back, then realising that all that was left was to count down the full five minutes she dropped down to the ground, it was an odd time to start an impromptu exercise routine, but still five minutes were five minutes, and Accalia knew how to time that in with her push-ups, it to her at least, was more reliable than any of the clocks or sands that had been provided to them to check the timer, she'd knock out one pushup every five seconds, so by the time she'd hit 600 then the brewing time would be done, plus it gave Eo and Nabi time to get to know each other, if they directed any questions to her she'd be able to answer without sounding breathless too.

Finally as the last push-up was completed she rose to her feet once again, nodding to her friends, not that it seemed that they needed her timing, still, she let Nabi go back to the cauldron and left Eo to handle her tasks, giving her little sister a gentle squeeze on the shoulder to show that she was with her, there was no need for her to stress, she knew that Eo would be fine with handling the appropriate quantities of whiskey and that Nabi had the rest under control.

Giving one more satisfied nod, she went to collect and begin chopping the tough valerian root, again utilizing the blade finely and with expert precision, gathering the tiny pieces into a small dish and setting aside ready for when they were required, cleaning the blade and returning it to its sheathe with great respect.

XXXEonaria was quite sure that Nabi was silently judging her, so she tried desperately to focus on the task at hand. Accalia reassured her that there was absolutely no reason to panic or rush since most of the time would be spent standing around. Eonaria smiled slightly at the joke.

XXX"Well, just in case! But thanks, Accy." She inhaled deeply to calm herself down, making sure to breathe away from the cauldrons. She carefully dropped the fire seed into the cauldron, watching as it began to boil, the bubbles of air rising to the surface and popping, churning the surface of the incomplete potion. Lots of fire in this potion, huh. Well, it certainly makes sense. But I've never tried using the Dogsbreath Potion before? I won't burn myself, will I?

XXXEonaria began to mentally record the passing of the next five minutes in her head, but just then, Accalia dropped down and began doing push ups. Eonaria looked down at her, alarmed. "Er- is now really the time? What if someone's cauldron explodes onto you? I mean, not that people would totally botch their potion, but this is an intense procedure, y'know?" She laughed awkwardly. Oh well. Accy will be Accy. My push ups have certainly improved due to our training sessions, but I don't feel like doing some in the midst of a competition about precision and care.

XXXShe headed back to the ingredients table, carefully measuring out 3 fluid ounces of Fire Whiskey into her ladle. Eonaria began to relax, counting in her head. It's just one step at a time, one, two, one, two, keep the rhythm, you'll be fine. She hurried back to their station, watching as Nabi continued to stir the potion clockwise, forming a very shallow whirlpool from the consistent force. Eonaria allowed the Fire Whiskey to slowly pour from the ladle, watching it carefully as it mixed in with the rest of the contents of the cauldron. Wow. It's quite similar to cooking, just with... extremely odd ingredients with the potential to explode. Wonderful.

XXXAccalia began chopping the valerian root. Help, it still feels like it's moving too fast! The half-baked potions at varying degrees of completion bubbling throughout the Great Hall definitely heightened the sense of urgency, stressing her out further. Eonaria glared at that one pebble on the floor, letting loose her frustration in one long, low, slow breath of air through her teeth. You've got this. We all got this. She straightened up, watching Accalia precisely slice the valerian and placing it in a small dish. "Wow Accy, you really have this all handled." Eonaria smiled in relief.
