Interactions: OPENWednesday, 25 September. 4:12 PM✿ ✿ ✿Haven sprinted out of her last class the moment it was over, trying not to topple over first years as she rushed to the courtyard. No one was there yet (she may have pushed someone back a few steps), so she quickly claimed some space, pulling a small box out of her bag: a box of chalk. Her mother had sent it in her care package, and she knew just what to do with it. Perhaps she was just an oversized child, but Haven still loved a game of hopscotch, and hopefully someone would come join her for it.
As quickly and precisely as she could, she drew out the squares, which was a lot more difficult on the cobbles than she thought. Nevertheless, she persevered, writing a number in each square in a different bright color of chalk, making it a game that was fun to look at and play.
In all her excitement for the game, she had forgotten one vital piece of equipment: a rock. She searched her pockets, but nothing was to be found. You'd think that being outside would mean that surely there'd be a rock or two around, but for some reason, she couldn't find anything. Now, she could go further outside and search, where she knew there'd be rocks, but did she think of that? No! Of course not! Instead, she wracked her brain for all the other rock-shaped items she had, instantly thinking of one- her pygmy puff, Marcus.
Not wasting any time, she ran back to her dormitory, giving a quick nod to people in the common room before bursting in, surprising Marcus as she yanked him out of his warm bed, waking him up from his nap.
"Sorry, Marcus," she apologized as she ran. "I really, really, really need your help. You need to be my rock. No- not my emotional rock, like an actual rock. Get with the program, Marcus." The two were back at the courtyard shortly, Haven starting to desperately explain to the pygmy puff what she meant. He did not seem to be getting it.
Some of her professors had said that the best way to learn was by doing! Or maybe that had been her da teaching her how to play Mario Kart... either way, she thought she'd follow that advice, taking Marcus like a bowling ball and rolling him towards the chalk squares until he landed on the 5 square. He flailed his little legs in the air for a moment before getting right-side-up and curling up to continue his nap. Haven was fine with that. She had her game.
She skipped across the squares, careful to avoid the one where Marcus lay, sleeping. Haven held on to her strawberry hat as she raced back to the start, ready to go again. Though, she wouldn't mind if someone else decided to get in line with her.

Prat had already finished his classes for the day and now with extra work on the side related to duelling finally done, it was time for him to go back to one of the recreational rooms. Looking for a free Piano to practice his skills further more was now onto his usual agenda. Even though he had a concrete idea for his future, the urge to hold onto the bit of musical talent he had still burned bright within him. He did notice a considerable dip in his skills during his stay at his grandparent's place when he actually had to make an effort to seamlessly perform one of his usual sonatas. One that he had burned hours into was no longer at his fingertips.
However still not yet ready to face the deterioration in his skill Prat decided to take a walk among the Castle premises, hoping to find something that would distract his mind enough from all the chaos of this school and the sheer disappointment he was feeling as compared to his usual self.
However reaching courtyard he witnessed an older student performing a very unorthodox ritual with a strawberry hat. Prat's initial thoughts were perhaps she lost a bet or has a medical condition that makes her act out in a stupor of random jumps similar to that of a frog. Maybe she just had a screw loose. However it was much later when he noticed the bright colored numbers on the floor.
Failing to hold back his curiosity Prat decided to approach the girl and inquire her conditions. Was this a game or was she just tweaking out with her sleeping pygmy on the floor too? Prat approached her with a questioning look as he announced his presence, following it with "Is that a game of some sorts? If not then what is this ritual, it seems very fun." Was this even a wizard game or a muggle one?
Prat wouldn't know if he went by his childhood, being a single child from an affluent household meant he had some dignity to maintain and while his parents did not object his decisions that would oppose it. His grandfather surely did and Prat was not one to disappoint that man with how much he had impacted him as a person specially when he somehow had belief in him to turn out magical.

"Wotchawotchawotcha!" Colin cried out to a knot of girls standing in the middle of the corridor, blocking traffic as usual! He shook his head and laughed merrily as he ran by them. Classes were done for the day and Liam had some Ravenclaw project to work on, which left Colin and Greebo free to go out and play on their own. As the crowded corridors thinned out a bit, Colin picked up his pace, easily loping through the castle as if he owned the place.
As he got to the stairs that led down from the first floor to the ground floor, he lightly hopped up onto the banister for a quick ride down. Anything for a little speed! Fortunately, Colin remembered to hop off before he crashed kilts first into that horribly inconvenient brass orb that was fixed to the lower end of the balustrade. Dratted thing! Who in their right mind would put a bloody great brass globe on a perfectly slideable banister!?
"MRRRR?"
Naturally, Greebo just hopped up onto the globe and then gracefully leapt down to the stone floor.
"C'mon Greebo! Let's go outside!" Colin said to his black cat as they took off through the high doors that opened out into the courtyard. This was one of Colin's favourite places, during second year when Liam was --- gone. Fighting off the evil Werewolfian henchwolves of the Liche King has kept him occupied on many afternoons! Not to mention all the undead skeleton warriors of Emperor Zombikos!
Colin's reverie was interrupted as he passed through the arched portal and found an interesting sight out in the courtyard. It was still pretty empty. There was a first year Slytherin boy there watching a very large strawberry draw lines and numbers on the cobbles. "Look Greebo! It's Strawberry Sally! Oh!"
As he came to a halt next to the other Slytherin boy, he realised that he wasn't a danger noodle at all! It was just Prat! He was talking about some ritual. "Ayo Prat! What's up here?" Colin examined the girl more closely. He whispered to Prat: "At first I thought she'd missed a trasnfig lecture! But I think that's just ordinary clothes!" Once he caught sight of her face, he recognised her. A couple years older than him. Bonhaven or something. Irish girl. Definitely cute though!
He watched as she continued to draw and then it dawned on him! "Peevers! I didn't know you know this game Bonhaven! Tis no ritual, Prat. Tis a game! See? She's bowled her puffskein out into the court, and then you skip up along the numbers until ye get to the peever, then you pick him up!"
Colin nodded knowingly. "Mind you, we don't usually bowl puffskeins for peevers! We use big gobstones! So you have to avoid the yuck as you skip along the court! Our Ma had to get after us once when we tried bowling our Aoife for a peever! I'll give it a go!"
Colin fetched a likely looking rounded stone from his satchel. It looked old and someone had carved six rounded knobs into it. It made a good peever, whatever its original maker had thought! "Right! Here I go!"
CLACK-A-CLACK-A-CLACK! The stone rolled over the cobbles, at last coming to rest at last.
Colin lightly skipped over the chalk drawn boxes, chanting as he went:
aon for sorrow
dhà for mirth;
trì for a wedding and
ceithir for birth!
còig for rich and
sia for poor;
seachd for the witch
named Auld Blackmoore!
ochd for me dame
naoi for me name and
deich to gang hame!
"Brilliant game Bonhaven!" Colin gave Haven his best smile, showing off all his fangs! "Go on Prat, give it a try!" he said, nudging the younger Snake towards the court.

Keep your mind in hell; and don't despair.

Interactions: @Prat Pass @Colin McCoire✿ ✿ ✿Haven gave a wave to the boy who had run up, allowing that as the only distraction as she made her way across, not that the game required much concentration, but knowing her, if she didn't pay complete attention, she was probably going to fall over and flatten Marcus, and that would not be good. It would be quite terrible, in fact, and she would very much like to avoid that, thank you very much. Once she made her way to the end, she ran back towards the newcomer, giving him an encouraging pat on the back.
"It's hopscotch, silly!" She paused for a moment. It seemed odd that he wouldn't know. Maybe he just forgot the name, or maybe... maybe he's never played. "Have you really never played?" She really hoped he had just forgotten. Otherwise that would be so sad, to go your entire life without playing hopscotch? It's tragic! And a good thing he was fixing it now, at least, so he wouldn't have to be sad and hopscotch-less forever.
"I think Marcus makes for a cuter rock, but we can use yours, too, I guess," she mentioned, carefully lifting the sleeping pom-pom from his spot before watching Colin throw his rock, singing as he went. Maybe she'd have to sing a little song, too.
"Bohannon," she corrected him with a frown. "Haven Bohannon." But nothing could stop her from enjoying the game, especially when they had a poor fancypants pureblood boy to teach. "You can borrow Marcus if you'd like. Or, you know, the rock. Might be best."

AEIOUSAPrat observed Haven and Colin's demonstration with a mix of curiosity and skepticism. He had seen his muggle cousins playing it before, but he chose not to familiarize himself with it. The concept was simple enough even a fool could grasp it. The idea was to just hop along the chalk-drawn squares, avoid the one with the stone. Perhaps too simplistic for someone like him to be as engaged with it as the other two. Prat took the rock hesitantly, after his eyes were flickering between it and the sleeping Marcus. He was not ready to accidentally step on someone's friend today.
"Right, so i just have to toss this rock thing onto one of the squares and then hop over it, seems easy enough" he murmured to himself. Furrowing his brow in concentration. Taking a deep breath, he stepped back, and threw the rock with a flick of his wrist, landing it on the third square with a thud, bouncing slightly before coming to rest. Prat took a moment to appreciate his successful throw, a small victory in this alien world of childish amusements he had seemingly deprived himself of.
With a determined look, he approached the line of squares, took a short running start as he began hopping. His first few steps were wobbly, as he had expected, his long legs not quite accustomed to the small leaps required, yet he managed to find himself a rhythm. Getting more comfortable with each landing became a little less awkward than the last. By the time he reached the end of the hopscotch grid, he felt a strange sense of pride upon this small achievement.

Avis watched the game unfolding in front of her with an amused smile. She'd observed quietly on one of the Courtyard benches as the older girl adorned in strawberries carefully drew something out in chalk on the cobblestones beneath her. She'd desperately tried to get back to the assigned reading she had to get through for Transfiguration, but as soon as the posh-looking Slytherin boy stepped up to give this curious game a go, Avis' focus had flown out of the window... or, the Courtyard, so to speak.
She edged a little closer to the scene playing out in front of her, careful to look absolutely transfixed with her textbook (which was hard to accomplish seeing as it was, in fact, a boring textbook), and listened closely as a wildly energetic boy wearing an alarmingly airy-looking kilt explained the rules, (well, what she supposed were the rules), in verbal Scottish chicken scratch. Piecing his... words?... together with the actions of the others, Avis thought she might have gotten the general idea and after observing the Slytherin awkwardly make his way across the squares, she finally plucked up the courage to give in to her curiosity.
Closing her book with a snap and dumping in her satchel at the end of the bench, Avis stood and brushed herself off, really just needing something to do with her hands as she stood. She wasn't normally socially awkward but interacting with older students always made her a bit nervous.
As the Slytherin finished his turn with growing confidence, Avis trotted up to the group and gave him a few claps of approval, immediately stuffing her hands into her robe pockets and kicking herself internally. Too much? She cleared her throat.
"Mind if I have a go?" she asked, giving the three others a bright smile.

With her book, History of Magic, tucked in hand, Ira roamed around the castle with her fingers gripping the book as it masked the tiny romance book within its pages. A light shove from behind startled Ira, and her books slipped from her hold. Ira quickly crouched down to collect them and hide the small one in it.
That is when her eyes took in her surroundings, stopping on the girl with a strawberry hat. "Oi Strawberry! Ever thought of using your eyes?" her voice edged with irritation. Given the speed of the older girl's sprint, there was little chance she caught half of Ira's words.
After shaking her head in mild irritation, Ira made her way to the quiet corner of the courtyard to sit. However, her focus on the book faltered, and her curious eyes strayed to the strawberry girl who was busy sketching squares and numbering them.
As the girl disappeared, leaving her drawing behind, Ira approached it cautiously. Her steps circled the sketch as her eyes took it in. Why the sudden rush? Could this be some kind of magic she isn't aware of? A dangerous one? Was that why she hurried away?
Before her thoughts could spiral further, the echo of footsteps reached her ears. In an instant, Ira bolted to the corner and pretended to mind her own business.
The next time Ira's gaze landed on the girl, she was rolling the pygmy puff over the sketch. What on earth was she doing? Is this her bizarre method of coloring the cute little creature? As she skipped the squares, Ira could only stare blankly.
Later, two boys joined her, and it was only when Ira overheard the strawberry girl and the... song boy explaining the game rules that she realized it was a game. A game! How could she have been so clueless?
The thought of joining the game crossed Ira's mind, but she hesitated. None of them were familiar, and she wasn't sure whether they'd accept her into the game.
To her delight, Avis, a fellow first year, joined the group. Ah, finally someone she actually knew! Ira sprang to her feet and approached them, silently praying that Strawberry had missed Ira's earlier comment. "Mind if I play too? And how do we decide the winner?"

Greebo sauntered over to sniff at the newcomers. Two girls, a Hufflepuff and a Ravenclaw. Colin reckoned they must be first years. Satisfied they were okay according to whatever Greebo considered to be okay, the black cat decided to hop up onto a nearby bench to stretch out and watch the proceedings. Colin shrugged. Greebo appeared to have no interest in actually playing. Oh well! His loss!
Prat had finished his go. "Strong play, lad!" Colin called over to him. Even the Ravenclaw girl clapped in approval, before shoving her hands back into her pockets! Colin smirked. "Even though you didn't sing any chant while ye danced along the squares. Tsk!"
The first years both asked if they could play too. "It's bonnie Bohannon's game, but I reckon she'll let ye play lassies! Peevers is not much fun alone." Colin took the stone and tossed it again for another go. His kilt flicked this way and that as he skipped along the chalk squares. "As for who wins? I dunno? We always played ye've got to land yer peever, yer stone, on the ten square." Colin pointed to the colourful half circle that Haven had drawn at the far end of the board.
"Just don't trip and fall! Or land outside the squares!" Colin gave the first years a crafty smile. "Or we'll have to cast the dancing feet jinx on ye!"

Interactions: @Prat Pass @Colin McCoire @Avis Greymond @Ira Thornfield✿ ✿ ✿"You have to sing a silly song while you do it," Haven encouraged, nodding along to Colin's words. She knew plenty of silly songs, the real trouble was figuring out which one to use, but luckily, she still had a turn to figure it out.
"Of course you can join!" Haven said, beaming at the first years. The more, the merrier, in her opinion. She wasn't going to be stopping anyone from joining. In fact, she would very much like it if the whole school decided to participate, though it might take a while to get a turn. They might need more squares. But for now, they were at a comfortable lot.
"I didn't know you could win," Haven admitted, taking the stone from Colin for her turn. "We just kept going until you thought your legs were going to fall off or we had to go inside." She threw the rock, watching it land on the 5th square.
Haven borrowed a page from Colin's book, picking a traditional nursery rhyme- but hers was in Irish Gaelic, rather than Scottish.
"A haon, a dó, muc is bó, One, two, a pig and a cow
A trí, a ceathair, bróga leathair, Three, four, leather shoes,
A cúig, a sé, cupán tae, Five, six, a cup of tea,
A seacht, a hocht, seanbhean bhocht, Seven, eight, a poor old lady,
A naoi, a deich, císte te." Nine, ten, a hot cake.
She scooped up the rock as she passed the square, careful not to topple over as she made the treacherous jump from square 4 to 6. Once she made her way to the end, she handed the rock back to Prat, who was next in line, so he could go before the newcomers got their turn.
"Maybe whoever can come up with the best song wins?" she suggested. "Marcus can judge."

AEIOUSA"You have to sing a silly song while you do it," Haven encouraged him as she nodded to Colin's word. Prat sadly did not care much for the songs, he used to hear them from one ear and out the other. The current situation had him stuck in a limbo of sorts.
"Of course you can join!" Ofcourse, more people to see him fail blatantly at this awkward game. The more, the merrier was not something Prat could even consider here. he did not wish to look miserable right infront of a group of first years, or worse fail at this stupid game. Slowly he attempted to gain comfort at the game and decided to continue on this unprecedented path.
"If you can't win, then why is it a contest?" Prat asked, as he saw Haven take the rock and continue the game. When it came his turn, Prat sent the rock a little closer as he landed on number 3. However unlike Haven, Prat decided to sing a song he had heard from his grandfather and his friend who used to captain a huge ship during his travels.
"I thought I heard the Old Man say:
"Leave her, Johnny, leave her."
Tomorrow you will get your pay,
and it's time for us to leave her.
Leave her, Johnny, leave her!
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her!
For the voyage is long and the winds don't blow
And it's time for us to leave her."
As He scooped up the stone before jumping from two to four, he was glad how he had managed to not make a fool of himself. He might even be considering it a fun game now as he found joy in it, a contest with no winner certainly helped to relax people. "This is fun, i did not imagine it could be this fun. AGAIN! " he voiced before joining back to the queue.
