2024/25, Stage 1 Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 5

Duels, Draven was quickly finding out, were 70% dodging skills, and 30% luck. Neither seemed to be on his side, really, flames still so lovingly enveloping him.

Gritting his teeth he ducked underneath another two spells flung his way.

He supposed being the biggest damn kid on the Slytherin team painted a massive target on his forehead. He was lanky, and uncoordinated, and bloody massive. For the third time that hour, Draven wished himself smaller. Younger.

Wished he could go back in time, and give the broken wretch who'd failed out a massive shake. And if not, a smack over the back of the head.

Speaking of failure- the inferno of sparks which had shot forward from his wand fizzled out before reaching Mylo. Because of course it had.

Embarrassing. At least the tail end of his spell (combined with the other two beautifully cast flippendos) knocked Jess on her rear.

Elisa continued with her Flipendo streak. This time, she paid equal attention to both the casting and the target. Drawing her wand with a swish to point it, unwavering, at Jessamine, she shouted out her third Flipendo. She watched her spell hit its target, then two others, hitting Jess sharp and square. Elisa watched, still, as the Jessamine crumpled to the ground after the three consecutive Flipendos. The Slytherin girl shuddered at the sight of her opponent, unconscious. She felt oddly guilty - sure, this was a duel, she should have been expecting that - but she wasn't.

She teared her eyes away, reminding herself that the duel was not over, that Mylo Atkins was still up and about, and that she was probably putting herself and her team in danger for having been distracted.

It felt odd seeing Jessamine crumple so quickly after being so full of joy, but Pyxis expected it. He was standing next to two extremely competent duellists and such was seen when all three of them nailed her. The snake made a mental note to visit her in the Hospital Wing later, but he knew from their countless evenings training in this very room that she would be fine. His mind then turned to the last remaining Ravenclaw who was still unscathed. Despite being targeted, Draven was handling himself wonderfully and Elisa looked as strong as ever. Pyxis felt a bit of sympathy for the underdog opposite him, but the duel wouldn’t be over until it was over.

A three-versus-one was never a spot a duellist wanted to be put in, but Mylo would handle it with style. The spell would have to be forgone in accuracy, far more focused on dodging the three different attacks directed towards them, but it appeared to be a fair trade. The Knockback Jinx towards Draven was beautifully cast, suffering only from Draven's alertness and the seeming sixth sense of his wand and the connection between them. He'd easily weave past the cast, keeping focus on his own spell for later.

Where Mylo excelled was the dodging, every move precise enough that they just barely kept out of the way. Pyxis let his own Knockback Jinx go first, a hasty cast without fear of backfiring that spiraled towards the sole Ravenclaw. They narrowly jumped back in time, the spell grazing along their arm yet not enough for any bruising or hit. Elisa hoped to pin the eagle down between the two Flipendos, but Mylo found the narrow window that left an escape, barely scraping past the two beams. Unfortunately, a hat trick was not in the cards as the final spell rocketed across the piste from Draven. He would get his revenge with the Blindfolding Spell that, after all their previous effort, Mylo stood no chance getting away from. The Ravenclaw would have to get used to the darkness that Draven had gotten familiar with, a fitting success of all the spells Slytherin cast. It was a dangerous place to be put in, curious as to how the teams would act next.

Darkness. They were lucky they had seen the other 2 spells aimed at them before the blindfolding spell that had been cast at them fully covered their eyes as it meant that they were able to narrowly avoid getting hit by them.

They now were completely blind though, which was not great thing and Mylo felt sorry for Draven who they'd done this to several times at the beginning of the match. It wasn't very fun. But they were still in a duel with 3 people standing opposite them, ready to cast their spells at them. So steeling themselves for the inevitable hits Mylo thought about the best course of action.

Both second year Slytherins chose send Knockback Jinxes flying at Mylo. Though successfully cast, the Ravenclaw dodged both the flashing streaks of light, by so little it seemed that the spells caressed their skin before leaving off into the darkness. It was quite a spectacular sight- one would see two flash of lights, one following the other, both missing by barely an inch. The only successfully hit spell was that of Draven's- it looked like Mylo was receiving pay-back for what he had done to the third year.

It was with a somber sense of satisfaction that Draven watched the blindfold wrap itself around Mylo's eyes. The flames on his sleeves had finally gone out as well, thank Merlin. Looking down at his sweater, Draven's nose scrunched up in distaste. A repario was due, and soon. The smell of burnt fabric was sticking to the inside of his lungs and making his eyes water.

Around him, the world spun a little. And then a little more. His vision was starting to blur, exhaustion and pain eating away at his composure little by little.

The sooner this duel was over, the sooner he could crawl into bed and sleep for fourteen business hours. Leveling his wand at Milo for what he expected to be the very last time, Draven steeled himself, practicing the words to his final spell. He'd need to make it a good one, or at the very least not embarrass himself terribly.

They wanted to flip the script on Mylo, so now that all three snakes were back in commission, of course Draven wanted to collect some revenge. Pyxis almost felt bad for the remaining bird as all three wands pointed in their direction, but he spared a glance over to the older Slytherin and realized that, even if he was still standing, the lad was a sneeze away from unconsciousness. He had utmost faith that he and Elisa could finish the job without Draven, but it would be a nice change if no hospital wing visits were needed after this match.

For all, the strategy remained the same. Even with the new cloth around their eyes, Mylo decided to try and keep their focus trained on Draven, a last ditch attempt to bring one of the snakes down before the Ravenclaw got hit. The Second Year didn't need a visual reminder of what the spell looked like, casting the Knockback Jinx easily in the direction that Draven had once been. It was a rather accurate guess, but a guess was all it was- the older Slytherin had already moved from that spot and while perhaps taken by surprise slightly, he could keep out of the way and hold onto that last little bit of fight.

Draven's spell was sadly find little use. Since Mylo had opted not to take off the blindfold, the additional wrap wouldn't do much to stop the already blinded eagle. While a beautiful cast mixed with alright aim that still found its target, the cycle Draven had been thrown into before wouldn't fully repeat with Mylo this time. Pyxis and Elisa would try their duo of Flipendos once more, hoping to improve their hit rate since the last attempt. Perhaps speed was the key they missed last time, Elisa rushing through casting to get the spell flying through the air as quickly as possible. But speed meant a lack of precision, the spell nearly flying towards her allies instead of the sole opponent. They wouldn't have to do much to keep out of reach, likely only hearing it rush past before another punched them in the gut, the pain once previously unfamiliar in this duel now spreading as they stumbled back. While Elisa's spell had little chance of hitting, it made a good distraction (as much as it could to someone blindfolded) that Pyxis could utilize, setting up a strong spell with a precision unparalleled this round. And with the blindfold still on, it seemed as though the cloth might be the near downfall of two duellists this game.
