Why was it that every time Casey tried to catch a breather, all hell had to break loose? He had just got out of a fricking bombing incident en route to Hogwarts and now this... A disappearing student. Sure, when signing up for an event called "Haunted Halls," Casey knew he'd be in for a jump or two at some point down the road... But this really wasn't what he was hoping for.
As a student fell through the floor like the gates of hell had just opened up to her, Casey barely had enough time and reflexes to shove his comic back into his jacket pocket and hurried on over to where she disappeared. By the time he reached the scene, the room was back to its eerily silent tone, as if it had already gone and forgotten something happened.
"Jesus..."
Three doors ahead of the group opened up before them. Between a mixture of quick, careful thinking and a hidden, frantic need to get a move on, students already began picking doors to cautiously yet hastily walk through. Casey stalled when dust got caught in his eyes, to which he cursed quietly under his breath. He brushed his face before standing in front of the three doors.
He sighed. "Alright... Eeny, meeny, miny..."
Sod it. He went for the door in the middle, joining other students that had already come to the same decision. When you can't decide on one side or the other, just sit on the fence.
Taking his wand, he twirled it in between his fingers before walking through the gap, whistling nonchalantly.
Same crap, different day around here, apparently.
But enough stalling. A kid was stuck down whichever tunnel they managed to fall through, and it was in Casey's best interest - as well as a few others no doubt - to get them back before things got more topsy turvy.
"Little wanderer, hie thee home..." He muttered before poising his wand to cast "lumos."
If Casey was going into the dark, he'd be taking his sass with him, whether the others liked it or not.

The typical Aly energy brought a grin to Lindsey’s lips. “Me too.” She smiled, Aly’s cheerful squeeze lightening the slight anxiety caused by situating in a completely unfamiliar environment. She gave her friend a little friendly pat in return, while keeping an extra eye out not to mess up her friend’s dress. Lindsey looked into those bright emerald green eyes, sparkling despite in the vague of the gloom. “Oh, and thank you so much!” She answered when Aly praised her outfit. “When I’m on my way here I realised that it’s actually a bit off the themes which somehow worries me, and I’m really really glad that you like it.”
Chocolate brown gaze eagerly flickered, hoping to spot something unusual that might come as a clue. Luck wasn’t on Lindsey’s side today, unfortunately, and her vision soon started to be blurred by a bit of unwelcoming dust, tears welling up. She let out a small sigh, then rubbed her eyes and blinked hard, waiting for the uneasiness caused by foreign bodies to get over. Must get more careful from now on. Lindsey thought to herself. This maze had even more unexpectedness lurking in the gloom.
Just as she was reflecting on the matter, a scream split the air. Lindsey abruptly turned, but all she could was to catch a glimpse of was the last image of the floor opening up and consuming a previously unacquainted girl (Acacia Murillo) possibly from a foreign school, who, if she recollected correctly, was among one of those who tried their luck by kicking the wall. Lindsey’s eyes widened in shock, petrified by the sudden disappearance of a student. Aly almost immediately rushed over to help, and Lindsey only got back to her composure in a few seconds before hastily following the Ravenclaw. She sighed heavily as Aly’s valiant efforts were rendered vain by the loud click of the floor, lingering devilishly in the hollow of the room. Oh Merlin. She felt it tightening in her chest. This was a Hogwarts ball, after all. Lindsey should have known it.
As the option of venturing deeper into the depth of the maze was provided by the disclosure of three doors, a majority of students were starting to pick their ways. This seemed like a wise choice, for it seemed that staying behind couldn’t be of that much use if they wanted to lend a hand to the missing girl or lift the veil of this maze. The only task was to determine which path to take.
Lindsey raised her head up and looked at Aly, finding that her friend had already made up her mind to follow a duo. She almost immediately recognised the girl as Dealla Prince, a fellow sixth year and a skilled Duellist, whom Lindsey had faced off against a year or two ago (and lost, of course). Having encountered her at Aly’s birthday party, Lindsey recollected that Prince seemed to have a really close friendship with Aly. The boy (Madhup Hexum) on her arm that seemed of their age was totally unfamiliar, maybe a visitor from one of the foreign schools, casting the Opening Charm on the left door with much confidence and heading for it. It barely took any time for Lindsey to decide to follow them as well, into the left door and the unknown inside.
Aly was kindly providing light in the dimmed halls, and Lindsey’s tensed muscles relaxed under the warm glow of the light, albeit only on the tip of a wand (if successfully cast). She drew out her own wand and put it flat on her palm, balancing so that it wouldn’t roll over and fall off. “Point me.” She whispered. At least they wouldn’t want to endlessly circle around.

The more she stayed into such a room, the more people were coming in and exploring, too. It was beginning to get crowded, but that did not stop Colby from still looking around. She had tried to use her sense of smell to find something to work off of, but alas, all she was able to sniff was the grossness of the water. Was it sewer? Probably. She wrinkled her nose and used her right hand to wipe her nose, hoping the smell would disappear in an instant.
Colby thought she heard someone talk to her, but her senses were so heightened that she had forgotten to respond back to them. To give way from her sense of smell, she began to look around the dim-lit room. Everyone was trying different things from kicking the walls to using spells. Colby, wand in hand, could use spells, but that made things easy. Magic was always easy. She remembered her mother sharing with her how she grew up without magic and had to really think about things and do them without a wave of a wand. Although Colby grew up with magic, she admired those who did not have and had to make their way.
It wasn't until her eyes looked at a little girl who was stomping on the floor. How would that help? she wondered with a little smirk. The girl was not only stomping, but also complaining about the puddles in the room. Colby looked at them with her eyebrows propped up and wondering how entitled they were. "You're at a Halloween event. Don't tell me you thought it was going to be sparkly fun?" she instigated, wondering what they would say or do next.
It wasn't until Colby could feel the ground ever so slightly and heard a scream that echoed exactly where the girl had been. Wait, she was just standing there. Colby cautiously moved forward and looked at the ground. A hole had been in her stead. That means... Colby tried to stretch her neck enough to look down. She had fallen in and was somewhere down there. Colby took a note to herself to not stomp on floors anywhere around Hogwarts. Now thinking about it, it was such an old structure, that it does make sense for it to break so easily.
Colby's ears perked. Was that a click? She looked around as to what the sound could be coming from. Was it a door? Did someone drop something? It seemed that she was not alone in trying to decipher the sound. Others had found the area of where the click occurred, only to show a series of doors. It was obvious that the next step was to enter through the doors, but which one? Which was the one that was going to be safe?
Colby rolled her eyes at the person and looked again at who was going through which door. Some were heading into the left door and some in the middle. She had not seen anyone choose the right door. Should Colby be daring and do her own thing, or follow suit with others? Colby took a deep breath and decided to be the Sigma that she was. She walked over and reached for the handle of the right door, opening it slightly. At this time, Colby did not have any tricky spells up her sleeve, but she did have her senses and courage. Hopefully that was enough.

Interactions: @Silva Melinora + open
Mentions: @Costanza Jewelweed + Ariam + Ulysses Costanza’s reaction to his presence brought a grin to Pyxis’ face. Their interactions always pleased the Slytherin, even if they weren’t the most friendly. He could tell — or he hoped — that her manner wasn’t born out of aggression or genuine disgust and he only believed that because he felt like she could punch him in the face at any moment, but she didn’t. That was a positive check for their relationship in his books. Now if only he could get her to refer to him by his name… Before he could breach that conversation, the first year he didn’t recognize stood up and filled him in on the gross puddles.
“Good to know. I hope it’s easy to clean off,” Pyxis nodded at her, dragging the back of his contaminated shoe along the floor of the room. He quickly stopped the motion and stuffed his hands into his pockets. I do nawt care enough to be doing all that. It had become habit for Pyxis to remind himself to loosen up a little. Besides, his parents could foot the dry cleaning bill… Do shoes go for dry cleaning? Before he could fall into the recesses of his mind with the debate, the first year piped up again, interested in that towel he offered. A figurative bead of sweat dripped down his forehead when he realized that he would have to follow through with his offer. Thankfully — or not — she was interrupted by the shaking floor.
Pyxis scrambled to the wall, trying to find some purchase on the stone. A scream pierced the uneasy air and he watched as the floor swallowed a girl whole. This has to be a part of the haunted maze schtick, right? Costanza would not be sticking around to show caution. The Hufflepuff took her leave just after light flooded the room. Pyxis moved to follow her, but held back as the first year produced a random piece of chalk from some pocket in her dress. He listened to her speech while observing the doors that were rapidly becoming popular with the residents of the room.
“That’s a good evaluation, but it’s smart to split up too.” Said no one, ever. “Covers all our bases. Especially with a group this big, it might get too crowded if we all go through the left door. Maybe we can apply the left method in each room or something,” Pyxis indulged her for a brief moment before slipping off towards the doors. His eyes were on Costanza, wanting to ask why she always showed up to balls in casual clothes. But quite a few people were gathered around her, one of them being Ariam who he moderated for in a summer camp duel. Pyxis didn’t recognize the other two at the middle door, but when his gaze shifted over to the right, he knew it would probably be the better choice. Only two people were gathered, including his year and housemate. As if some god had answered his call, a third approached the right door, allowing Pyxis to swerve dramatically towards the middle.Action: Entering the middle door, looking around.

She looked at the boy. He was nice. She was glad someone had listened to her. If no one had them she'd have been even more awkward. Then again, she was already super awkward. How were some people just so good at talking?
"I wasn't really suggesting we all go to the left..." She was staring at the ground so she didn't notice that he was gone "I was saying that if this is a hard maze we need to be careful with how we do it..... marking the walls to make sure we don't go past one place too many times would be good." She finally looked up.
Oh gods. How long have I been talking to myself? She had thought he was nice. Why'd he have to just leave?
She sighed and got down on the ground. She pulled out the soggy piece of paper in her pocket and decided it was too wet. Why did everything have to go wrong. Picking herself up she looked around again. Now that the lamps were on everything was clear. The weird furniture and cabinets and the three doors.
She needed to go in one of the doors, but which. The middle was out of the question because of Costanza and the boy. Already embarrassed herself in front of them. The left one was smart but the kids seemed a lot older. She turned to the right door. Only two people as of right now were going through there. A couple more seemed to be considering it but still.... More dangerous but less awkward... yup... that was where she was going.
Walking up to the door with the other younger students she used her chalk to mark the door once and walked through.

Kaya was preoccupied by looking carefully around, when suddenly something in the room started to change. She felt Yasha's protective hold and was thankful for his care. Not that she was going to move at this moment, they had to wait what is coming next, but it felt great to have someone to care. To have him to care.
After some time she could clearly see three doors and saw someone choosing to cast spell first instead of going directly into the door. This was a good choice and she sighed on Yasha's words. Apparently someone got themselves into trouble although this place was literally asking for been careful. But it was not her place to judge, so instead she thought about where to go.
Let's go after them. I like they are casting first before just going into it. She agreed with Yasha and they went closer to the left door. It could be anything behind it, so it would be better to be prepared for it.
She once again decided to just stay close to Yasha and follow him. Maybe she'll have to cast something soon.

Mad clearly didn't believe in waiting around, no, he was a man of solutions. So while Dee - with a mixture of disgust and fascination - tried to identify what (and why) the ball committee had decided to perfume this room with, he instead made sure that she would smell one thing and one thing only - a warm, musky scent, that assaulted her in full force as he dabbed some sort of oil on her nose. Mad's scent, she realised with a few seconds delay, because while she had noticed it before, it had never been with this intensity. Not unpleasant, but - she sneezed, loudly - perhaps not meant to be used quite like this. Dee blinked, trying to keep her eyes from watering. "Thank you?" She sneezed again.
Once inside, the scent luckily started to fade slightly... or perhaps she simply got used to it, but it allowed her to focus on more important things. Such as highlighting the wall furniture. She frowned. Wasn't this spell supposed to reveal hidden things?
She wasn't the only one who'd gone with the obvious approach, but none of the others seemed to have any success, either - because apparently more violence was demanded. Whirling around at the shrill scream behind her, Dee was suddenly treated to a pleasant close-up view of Madhup, who had wrapped his arms around her with an abruptness that almost knocked her off-balance. Confused, she held onto him to steady herself, only then processing that... he was shielding her? That was... unexpectedly sweet, considering it had clearly been a reflex rather than a conscious decision. Almost brought a smile to her face, although she could obviously take care of herself just fine.
There was a quip already on her tongue about how (literally) getting in her way would make them less safe rather than more, but the wild look in Mad's eyes and the dark shadows around them, clearly visible now that there were only centimetres separating them, gave her pause. She changed direction after a split-second hesitation - perhaps it was not the best time to be teasing him about his protectiveness. "If you wanted to cuddle, you could have just said so," Dealla observed lightly, only the hint of a crease between her eyebrows betraying her worry, and made a show of peering around him, just in time to see the floor seal up and smooth out. "Huh," she said cheerfully. "Now it's getting interesting."
Not everyone shared that sentiment, however. It seemed that Dee had managed to miss her best friend in the crowd earlier, but as she watched, @Aly Salinger scrambled over to the spot that had just closed itself up again, apparently considering whether she should just tear the floor open with her fingernails. Frowning, Dee let go of Madhup's jacket, but let her hand trail down to his, threading her fingers through his once again. "Aly!" she called softly. "Don't worry, we'll find her."
And Mad, once again a man of solutions, already had a plan. Well, staying on the left seemed as good a strategy as any, and Dee let him pull her along with a vague sense of amusement, which only intensified when he raised his wand. Reaching over to slightly adjust the way he held it was an automatic thing - years on the duelling team, first as captain, then as one of the senior members, had made it an almost conditioned response.
When Aly joined them, she offered a grin, before remembering that, right, yes, Aly and Mad hadn't actually met yet. (As far as she knew.) Introductions were in order. "Mad, meet my wonderful, brilliant, unfairly beautiful best friend." An underlining gesture, a flourish, and she turned her attention to her best mate. "Aly, meet the terror of Durmstrang Quidditch, my lovely ball date, the one and only Madhup." She flashed both of them a smile before turning her eyes forward again.
A few others (@Lindsey Springhall, Yasha Volkov (@EmmaLee LeDames)) joined them, with varying levels of confidence in Madhup's navigation skills. Dee couldn't quite imagine that the maze they were entering was complex enough that they actually had to fear getting lost, but between the light spells and Lindsey's wand pointing north, she supposed they were covering all eventualities. She'd just keep her eyes open, then.

Their guesses were not right on the point, apparently.
Sere was about to open her mouth again to talk about the other possibilities when she heard a scream from one corner of the room. The two seemed to have heard the same thing. Sere shook her head in response to Zach, not knowing what happened or who it happened to. Because ot that, the Gryffindor girl was sharpening her senses, trying to be more alert to what was around them.
The lights suddenly flickered on, disturbing Sere's vision. She had to blink her eyes a few times, adjusting to the sudden light. Now Sere could clearly see Zach's pink hair, Raizel's fedora, and the other students who had joined this event. Ah, the scream! Her eyes scanned here and there immediately, trying to find the source of the scream they heard earlier. But still, she couldn't find anything. The faces of the attendees showed confusion, which was right and normal for this situation, no one seemed like they had just screamed. Then, who was that?
Sere also noticed three open doors in front of her. The girl nodded when Raizel offered the option of choosing one of the door randomly. No one know what's behind the doors anyway. Quentin, are you okay?
The familiar voice was an instant relief. Before him stood Linda, more beautiful than he remembered her. He felt a strong urge to hug her, hold her hand, kiss her, anything, maybe all three—but he kept his distance. She didn't look particularly mad, even though she had every right to, too. Instead, she looked concerned. Right, the elephant in the room. The explosion in Hogsmeade. How did he answer her question? I'm not okay. I may never be okay. But I feel okay now that you're here. Even if it's just for a little bit. I'm sorry about kissing and running. I just really like you.
But he couldn't formulate any of those words—he didn't have the time. Instead, a girl was swallowed up by the floor and all the lights flickered on. The commotion caused Quentin to jump. He grabbed Linda's hand on reflex, pulling her close to him. "Merde!" Shit! Really? This was the type of game this school was going to play in the aftermath of a near-death experience for many?!
Quentin took a deep breath. His hand would still be clenched around Linda's if she didn't remove it. No, this was a game. This was supposed to be fun. He should have fun. He should spend time with Linda, if she accepted him. He could probably find a moment tonight to apologize … and maybe pick up where they left off. He turned to her, "Do you want to check out the middle door?"

If one thing could be said about the students of the various schools, it would be that they didn't waste much time panicking. The disappearance of a girl was met with initial shock, then a pretty much unanimous decision to move forward with the maze. Here, the students paths diverged. There were three doors (and the one they came through, if they felt like being done before they even started) to choose from, and the group of students split between them.
Main room
@Angelfyre McCubbin apparently had better places to be, which was pretty understandable considering the state of the first rooms floor and the fact that it apparently had a tendency to disappear under peoples feet. She would urge her partner in detectiveing to leave with her, and lament the inability to run in stilettos. @Maisie Gemmell wasn't leaving, but she wasn't rushing headfirst into anything without considering all her options first either. She peeked through the right door, [d20 : 11] + 7 = 17 her eyes taking in an extremely cluttered room with pedestals holding strange objects all over the place. Strange stuff. @Alyssea Brown joined the group in the middle room, having missed some of the fun. Surely someone nearby would be able to catch her up on what had happened, or she might just end up enjoying the maze without the knowledge that a student had gone missing. @Ulysses Drake joined her, suggesting the right door and the wise strategy of not letting children run off in a house with questionable safety standards.
Left room
Students who chose the left room as their path would see a very strange scene indeed. The room itself was quite bare, and lit by torches attached to wall brackets. Even its walls were bare, only being decorated by a string of words carved into them and two doors at the far wall and the right wall (and of course, the door that they entered through). If a student cared to look, the words would read "What warms your hide, but if it's a special one it makes you hide?". The floor however, was another deal entirely. Around the edges, it was pretty normal. In the centre however, it was composed of tiles that each bore a letter. The layout looked like this:
↑ Furthest from the entrance
R K O M Y
A P J M G
C O L J W
U Y L A E
K U P C F
↓ Closest to the students
OOC note: Jumping on, pressing or otherwise triggering multiple letter tiles counts as one action. Eg: Cass jumps on first row F, second row E, third row W, fourth row G, and fifth row Y
Madhup Hexum @Pericles Dralt apparently had a winning strategy for mazes of any shape or form, even if they came in weird house forms. In what was probably an attempt to show off, he would attempt to open the door with his wand rather than his hands, which appeared to be working perfectly fine.ReducioThankfully, the spell worked fine and the door swung open on its hinges. A very embarrassing fail was prevented, and he successfully entered the left room. Yasha Volkov @EmmaLee LeDames would follow hot on his heels, and attempt a spell of his own.Madhup casts aberto

Middle room
All students entering the left room would be greeted by a space that was weirdly tidy yet messy at the same time. Everything seemed to have a place, but some of those things were just... weird. The room itself was split in half, a wall made of wire dividing the place. What was beyond was still visible, just restricted from the students access by a door in the wire. On their side of the wire laid a neat line of objects that knocked off at least two common fears from the worlds-most-common fear list (if that even existed). A stuffed spider and a leg (formerly belonging to an action figure), a clown sitting on a tricycle, a clock stuck on eight, and a set of five golden rings were all lined up down the centre. Strange things indeed.
@Costanza Jewelweed would pick the middle room as her path of choice, pushing open the door and looking around as she walked through. [d20 : 16] + 8 = 24 Her eyes would spot details about the room, such as the apparent lack of other objects than the ones arranged in a neatly ordered line across the middle. She would also see that the lock on the door separating her from the other doors and moving forward had four little toggles with numbers on them. If she knew locks, she would notice that this was a combination lock. @Poppy Lytle joined her in the path of going straight ahead and looking around, [d20 : 9] + 7 = 16

[d20 : 20] + 6 The young girl would see quite a lot, perhaps noting that despite the rooms clutter everything was sitting on its own pedestal. Maybe these were possible answers to the riddle? Quentin Gagne @Della Barfield was the last to join the group in the middle room, after spending a few minutes talking to his friend and feeling deeply remorseful. He wasn't that far behind everyone else though, and he easily caught up to the everyone that was looking around at the strange clutter.WDC: 9

Right room
Entering the right room would take the students to a strange, rectangular room filled with... objects. There was no real way to group all of them together except for the fact that they had all been chosen to be placed in the room for reasons unknown. This room would have no riddle for those that were looking for one on the walls, but glancing down at the floor in the center of the room would reveal a mural with yet another riddle for those keen on riddle-solving. "What is bald but not bald?" a perplexing question that students probably didn't ask themselves everyday. But one that they would have to solve. The objects in the room were of a very... unique type. There was a painting of a bald person holding a wand and looking regal, a stuffed toy seagull, a statue with a bright pink wig on its head, a statue without a bright pink wig (or any type of hair) on its head, a stuffed bald eagle, a stuffed toy dragon, a statue of a hairdresser and a bad drawing of a guy with a very shiny bald head.
@Zach Zaphire was the first to enter the right door, whipping out his wand as he went.ReducioHis spell didn't just fail, it failed dramatically. Maybe it was the atmosphere putting him off, or maybe it was just plain bad luck. But either way, it still failed. Instead of lovely purple fireworks, his wand let off a loud crack as it backfired. Thankfully the wild purple sparks it spat out didn't hurt him. @Raizel Voltruz followed him through the door and witnessed his slightly interesting display of how not to cast a spell, trying to convince herself the scream she heard was imaginary. @Colby Vilder joined the party, looking around as she went through the door. [d20 : 1] + 4 = 5 crit fail Unfortunately, she got attacked by a small piece of dust and was unable to see a thing. @Sere Nade followed her friends through, wand ready and in hand in case something jumped out at them. Fortunately for her, the room seemed pretty safe and devoid of dangerous jumpy things.Violaceous

Acacia Murillo @Cass Ito had angered the house and now was paying the price, falling [d20 : 3] + 8 = 11 and landing hard on the cold stone floor below. She wouldn't have any broken bones, but she would certainly have some bruises the next morning. The fall also left her winded, pushing the air out of her lungs in the way that hitting the ground hard and unexpectedly did. It would be a fair assumption to say that she wasn't in a very good place right now.OOC INFORMATION:
