𝓦hat does it mean to leave a legacy?
Seven years is a long time; it was difficult to fathom, as a twelve-year-old, that while Bex was barely school aged, playing in the dirt and dealing with her first instances of magic, her eldest classmates were already here, following in the footsteps of the countless generations that had come before them, and paving the way for all of those who would come after.
Ravenclaw had lost their first two Quidditch games of the year. Brutally so. For Bex, while disappointing, this was ultimately low stakes for her, personally. She had six more years to help bring in wins for her team, and, if she was lucky, help her housemates take the cup some day. Two losses were not the end of her story, let alone the end of the world. But her captain was in her seventh and final year. Cecily only had one remaining game left here at Hogwarts, one last, desperate chance for her flock to deliver her a win.
Bex wanted to give her this rather desperately. Mind you, as second string player, the sum total of what she could do to help her team achieve this was almost zero, so her contribution would probably just end up being emotional support. Maybe she should bring snacks. Or practice psychological warfare on the Gryffindor team, whatever she could to do her part.
Seeking answers and inspiration, she'd made her way up to the Trophy Room, quietly passing a blonde girl in front of the Racing section as she made her way over to Quidditch. Gazing longingly at Ravenclaw's '21/'22 Quidditch trophy, she absentmindedly dropped her bag onto the floor, sealing the fate of both occupants of the extremely breakable room.
There is one thing that you should know that Bex herself had forgotten. She'd spent the Easter holidays in a quiet, petty stand-off at her dad's house, during which time one of his old school friends had gifted her with a rather exciting little toy. Her foray with Pericles and his Spy Eye Ring back in January had given her a tentative interest in magical objects, an interest that her dad was keen to nurture. The Ever-bashing Boomerang she'd been gifted was a toy rather perfectly suited to her, and she'd already spent a blissful handful of hours outside since she'd gotten it, treating it like an especially ill-shaped bludger and going to town on it with her beater's bat. In related news, she was perhaps more bruised than she had ever been, and generally thrilled to bits about this fact.
She had, foolishly, simply stuck the toy in her bookbag and summarily forgotten about it.
Clearly, the boomerang had not forgotten about her.
Had she been a more organized child, one who's bookbag wasn't overflowing with nonsense and was fully closed, things probably would have been just fine. Unfortunately for Bex, though, and unfortunately for the other poor sod currently occupying the trophy room, Bex's bookbag was full of nonsense, and had been left hapzardly open.
When her bag hit the ground, the boomerang sprang free and immediately began throwing itself around the room like a possessed ping pong machine. It whacked Bex in the back of the shoulder, causing her to shriek in confused terror, before bouncing off and away from her onto the nearest trophy case, not-quite shattering the glass, but leaving a long, ominous crack front and center. It's thirst for violence unappeased, it continued it's chaotic reign of terror, flying directly at the one other unfortunate soul currently in the Trophy Room, the blonde girl currently looking over the broom racing trophies.
"Oh- Look out!"

[quote]Ambition.
A determination to succeed.
At this point the word seemed like a cruel joke to June. What good was a desire to succeed if you never did? In fact, it seemed cruel. Unfair.
June paced around the empty trophy room, eyeing every serpentine victory. What did they have that she didn’t? Because it sure as hell wasn’t ambition.
Perhaps it was cunning, the darker side of her house, the willingness to lie, cheat, or steal your way to victory. Her eyes glanced over the names of the quidditch dueling members and shook her head. No, they didn’t cheat nearly as much as they could. And they had undefeated duelists, too.
June sighed, plopping herself in front of the cabinet of racing trophies. “I don’t get it, Lars.” She held her enchanted carrying case, her goldfish swimming away in the glass bowl. The poor thing, June had recently realized, hadn’t seen anything other than her dorm room and her bedroom. Perhaps he needed to see more of the world.
Perhaps June just needed a friend.
Lars was hardly a friend, though. He was, however, a good listener, and a good listener is what June needed at that moment. Unfortunately for her, that moment was when someone else decided to enter the trophy room. Not the best time to begin talking to your fish.
She gave the girl a nod of acknowledgment, grateful to see her meandering over toward the quidditch trophies.
Quickly June became conscious of the pathetic optics of looking at a case of trophies of a sport you’ve never won. She muttered quietly, “Alright Lars, let’s head-“
Crack.
“Oh- Look out!”
June turned, “Wha-“
A boomerang came careening towards her face, smacking her right in the nose and bouncing across the room once more.
“OW.” June’s hand flew up, the fishbowl sloshing around as she felt a nosebleed coming on from the impact. Wonderful. “The hell is that? Oh shit, here it comes again!”

𝓗ere’s a quick joke for you, stop me if you’ve heard this one before: what’s more embarrassing than being hit by a rogue boomerang? Being hit by two rogue boomerangs. Except she only had the one, and it didn't seem nearly satisfied with only hitting them twice. No joke is perfect, okay?
“It’s a-” She dropped her head down, just barely missing another swipe from the soon-to-be-identified flying object, “Ever-bashing Boomerang.” She slid quickly to the left, wincing as it took a chip out of the glass of a case full of 70’s Quidditch memorabilia. “That’s its thing,” she said, moving out of the way of a case that, after having its leg smashed into, was now careening perilously, “It’s ever-bashing.”
She had no time to spare on feeling sorry for the other girl, an unfortunate victim of happenstance whose only crime was being within a twenty-meter radius of Rebecca Lark without wearing a helmet, as the boomerang had already readjusted its path back in her direction, in hot pursuit of carnage. With reflexes that would have shamed her captain for decades to come, Bex reached out to try and grab the boomerang but missed by a good half a second, allowing the horrible little thing all the time it needed to slam mercilessly into her stomach, winding her.
She doubled-over, clutching her stomach as she retreated towards the wall in search of even the most meager sort of cover. Across from her, the blonde girl appeared to have a bloody nose, and was clutching what looked to be a goldfish, looking tantalizingly weak and breakable. Or at least, she assumed it did. To the boomerang.
Well, this was it then. Bex was going to be expelled for sure. With any luck, they wouldn't, at the very least, send out the report cards of children who'd been expelled.
She hadn’t brought her beater’s bat with her because why on Earth would she? Bringing a bat to a trophy room would be like bringing a flamethrower to an ice sculpture competition; it looked like you were threatening a very specific form of terrorism, and was also just kind of rude. She’d always had a hunch that submitting to decorum and the basic rules of the social contract would be what killed her. She was functionally defenseless, and the boomerang showed no signs of slowing down. She hoped, if nothing else, that the goldfish would be spared.
“Any ideas?” She called across to the blonde girl, hoping beyond hope that the girl was Merlin come again and knew some sort of boomerang mediation spell. “Because my only idea right now is to lay down and accept my place in the circle of life.”
