Dread and worries
If someone asked Geraldine five-six years ago if she wanted to go to a magic school, she would have most likely said no. She was still recovering at the time, and leaving her home-town would have been a really scary experience, even for any normal child. Now a days, she was more brave, though that was to be expected growing up and adapting. When the news came that she was a witch, she almost couldn't believe it. Having a physician as a father meant that science was a larger part of her life than normal. Magic wasn't supposed to be real.
But then, when her father also revealed her mother was a witch... certain things made sense. The biggest thing of all being how Geraldine was still here. Her mother said some words and the beast went away. Maybe she also pulled out a wand, but by that point Geraldine wasn't able to see anything anymore. If magic could protect than Geraldine wanted it. Her father raised her as a muggle sheltered from the existence of the wizarding world, so that there would be no disappointment if she was a squib. It felt like a bit of a time loss for learning, but Geraldine understood the motive.
So here she was in the Hogwarts courtyard. Well, it was supposed to be the courtyard. All her senses were telling her it was a courtyard, but who knows, they could have called it something else with a high up sign that she could never touch or read, nor did she have the magic to help as well yet. She didn't have classes yet, so she spent most of the time just wandering around, trying to remember where everything is, bumping into surprisingly few people, either because she heard them coming (relatively middle skill echolocation), or they saw her wand and knew to get out of the way of her spell.
Well that's probably what a pure-blood would think of it at first, it was just a white-cane, no magic involved for the moment. Anyone with any muggle street knowledge would see that she was clearly blind, her eyes, not at all covered by her short dirty blonde hair, were never open and with the scarring there was debate as to whether she had eyeballs at all. She wore the normal robes, as if she cared little about her appearance.
Hey that felt a bit out of place. Her cane had felt something around a pillar like thing, something which 'blended' in with her echolocation. It felt more like a person, she was still embarrassed to say she knew from experience, it was a different texture from the pillar itself. "Ah, uh, well... pardon me," She said with a stutter hoping it was not some grouch she had come across. "Won't happen again when I get better."

As Aleksandra had attempted to depart from the wall arch way she was once leaning upon the young girl felt something slightly trip her making the older girl stumble slightly. Before catching her balance with ease, a scowl embodied itself on the girl’s slightly pale face, her gray eyes darkened. Students around this castle really were always looking for a fight. The bane of the girl's existence.
Jerking head towards the source of her tripping, the platinum blonde girl noticed a young girl with short dirty blonde hair. To Aleksandra the young girl’s hair looked askew and messy while covering her eyes? The scars that seemed to go down the girl's face from the top of her eyes and down seemed to catch Aleksandra off guard. Could this person truly not see and if so who in their right mind allows them to go to Hogwarts? The school itself was chaotic, imagine not being able to see?
Aleksandra adjusted her peacoat; it was not likely that a stranger in front of her could see what the older girl was doing after all this strangers' eyes were closed. Aleksandra glanced around the courtyard before turning her attention back towards this stranger in front of her. Noticing the cane that they were using as a way to find their way around to avoid running into things.
Aleksandra stepped a bit closer as her loafers tapped against the stone cobbled ground. Her gray eyes slightly narrowed, eyeing the stranger closely. Taking in their appearance. Her robes seemed a bit askew as if the girl could care less how they seemed to present themself. If that was the case the girl was already an open target for those cruel at this school.
Especially with the blood prejudice that seemed to be a rumor around the mills. It was not like Aleksandra knew much honestly she had no idea what happened around this dreaded school. Hogwarts was a school for learning for the young witches and wizards and yet. This school was the bane of the second year's existence. At this point in time Aleksandra expected nonetheless. Hogwarts surely was a strange place full of the unimaginable.
A voice seemed to gather Aleksandra’s attention and a stutter seemed to linger in the air. To be expected Aleksandra thought they seemed a tad timid to the older girl. But how could this stranger promise something like this would not happen again? Tripping other students even by accident can cause problems for others and themselves. Rather strange the older Slytherin thought. After all, it was a strange promise to make. If one can not see how they can promise not to run into or trip others. An impossible promise really being unable to see had many disadvantages so Aleksandra would assume she never had trouble seeing nor knew anyone who had trouble either. Maybe the girl was insensitive about this stranger's lack of sight. But at the same time they should very much be careful.
Aleksandra thought deeply, staring at the stranger intently analyzing them carefully. Yes, someone who can not see should be careful, but why? Why walk around alone, why not ask another student for help or maybe a professor to understand this school more. Aleksandra assumed the staircases that moved must be the most inconvenient to the student in front of her. Yet they were alone.
A sigh escaped Aleksandra’s lips as she rubbed her head, a tad annoyed mainly with herself and her luck. If she just walked off now the student could end up on the wrong end of someone and to their luck it would be a bit brutal. Students at Hogwarts were a strange breed if you asked Aleksandra.
“Promising something you can not keep is impossible. Instead of promising you should say something along the lines of "I'll try harder or be a tad more careful.”
Aleksandra spoke her Scottish accent was light and feathery while her tone sounded emotionless and void for the time.
Aleksandra went quiet for a bit mulling over what the girl wished to say next before rubbing her head once more conceding to the thoughts in her head.
“Are you lost? Do you need help or something? It would be troublesome if you ended up getting harmed by falling down stairs or something.”
Aleksandra spoke once more a hint of boredom in her voice as she crossed her arms glancing at the stranger in front of her. Did they need help? It was possible but Aleksandra had no idea if that was true or not. Why was she offering? No clue. Aleksandra has been a bit kinder as of late and helpful than she supposed. Maybe she was growing up mentally, but she was always a bit mature for her age after all.
Aleksandra waited for this stranger to speak up or maybe even squeak out a response to the Slytherin girl. After all Aleksandra was sure she sounded a tad intimidating, not that she cared. After all this was Hogwarts things never worked out the way you wished here. It was either go with the flow or be thrown to the wolves and trust the wolves were the least of a problem at this school.

Dread and worries
Ah, it was a girl. One her own age it seemed like. Geraldine wasn't actually sure if this was better or worse. An adult was basically guaranteed to be staff, and staff would be more receptive to her by default. But this was another student obviously, and the wide variety of students... actually it was a lot more thrilling. Age was not quite that relevant when it came to being threatened with death, at least she thought so. The older the student, the more magically powerful they should be right? but also the less likely to bother messing with someone so young, vice versa too. Of course, Geraldine's not a normal student.
Geraldine liked to think she lucked out in this particular encounter. The other girl was acting extremely neutral. The uncertainty was nerve-wracking but thrilling at the same time, she didn't get to talk to many children her own age before this, and knowing the other wasn't completely annoyed with her existence was a step up. Of course, Geraldine liked to assume best of anyone who didn't immediately threaten her on their first meeting. She didn't want to be known as the blind girl who stayed inside all day, that would be a bad legacy to her mother.
Geraldine did her best to face towards the other girls head with what might seem like an eerily forced smile, though this was easier said than done. She had enough sense/skill to tell their bodily position, but not their height. It wouldn't do quite so well to help what she's about to say. "Maybe if it was literally impossible, but I believe there's a chance, just like there was a chance of magic existing. Not to put down your advice, it actually is quite good, but I stand by what I said," Geraldine replied as confidently as she could make herself, but it wouldn't take a genius to know she wasn't quite so. In her mind things were going crazy.
She would still press on though, probably overcompensating for her appearance. "I'm not lost, not in the most literal sense. You're right to assume I can't navigate as well as normal, but it's probably not as bad as what you're assuming either. I can't improve if I always rely on someone else for help, even if I won't ever be able to avoid it sometimes. I have my own ways, none of them with magic yet. I mean, I've made it six years so far." Oh, wait, she wasn't exactly supposed to say that last part, that was a bit private. That's what she gets for rambling. She took a really deep breath after that.
Interestingly, she never directly denied the idea of help. What she really needed help with was socialisation, her skill with that was lower. "I'm Geraldine, First Year," She introduced herself. "I'd like to know what colour your eyes are."

Feeling the cool autumn air caress her face Aleksandra stood straight her white platinum blonde hair swayed around the girl’s pale fair heart shaped face. This stranger in front of her was rather strange, a muggle maybe. It was highly possible this strange girl was a muggle. But at the same time the young girl felt slight pity towards the stranger in front of her. Maybe it was because they could not see or at least that was how it looked to her.
Aleksandra examined the stranger once more, her gray eyes slightly narrowed as her arms were crossed against her chest. The stranger seemed close to Aleksandra’s age; their short blonde hair seemed to sway gently in the autumn breeze while the scars upon the stranger's face seemed to be prominent.
Aleksandra felt slightly bad why? Even the older girl had no idea seeing someone who seemed determined to explore the castle even though they seemed to struggle. It was a mystery to the older girl. Though good mystery was never new, especially at Hogwarts.
Hogwarts is a school full of magic, mysteries, and dangers around every corner. Though Aleksandra was only a second year she had seen a few things and not only that the Hogwarts Headliner always spoke of the dangers surrounding Hogwarts. So this young stranger could have a hard time adjusting not only that though many think this school is safe was it truly. Last spring ball Aleks remembered vividly of the things that surrounded a certain red haired slytherin and a group of students. Was Hogwarts really safe?
A confident voice spoke, drawing Aleksandra back to reality. Aleksandra listened to the stranger quietly. They seemed confident that it was good she supposed one would have to be confident enough for this school but being confident would not help in this dangerous world. Especially since the world was full of uncertainties. Aleksandra lifted her head up a bit, arms still crossed watching this young stranger carefully as they seemed to continue speaking.
Aleksandra continued to listen as the young stranger seemed to ramble a bit making Aleksandra tilt her head slightly to the side listening intently. Though the girl said they were not lost though it seemed like it. Aleksandra supposed it could have been a mistake on the older girls part. Even though Aleksandra figured she could possibly help maybe depending on the older girl's mood she supposed.
As the young girl continued to speak during her rambling she seemed to take a deep breath after all of that constant rambling of her tongue. Aleksandra raised an eyebrow six years ago? Was the girl not always like this though she supposed by looking at the scars on the girls face. Aleksandra felt pity or maybe sorry for the young stranger. Though it was none of her business why the girl had scars she felt best not to mention anything. It may be an awkward conversation and rather rude to ask as well.
Before Aleksandra could speak the stranger spoke once again this time catching her off guard. Though they introduced themself a first year makes sense Aleks would have been certain she would have seen Geraldine around the halls her first year. But her name did not throw her off but the young first years question. What color were Aleksandra’s eyes? Her father always spoke highly of Aleksandra’s eyes how when the girl was younger they were a light grayish blue like the early morning sky before a summer’s shower, now her eyes were gray stoney and void of emotion as if the older girl herself has held onto the sharp knife of life. Aleksandra thought carefully before she would respond.
“I am Aleksandra FairBairn, a Second year student and to answer your question. My eyes are gray similar to the summer shower before the storm if that makes sense. Now Geraldine was it? Did you need assistance?”
Aleksandra spoke in her feathery tone. Her Scottish accent was soft like a feather falling from the sky, her gray eyes analyzing the girl carefully. It was up to the girl if she accepted the older girls offer if not Aleksandra would most like bid her farewells, but she figured she would be of assistance if it was needed.

Dread and worries
Geraldine was unsure if her question was weird or not. As far as she was aware, eye colour was mostly aesthetic for the majority. Obviously those with certain eye conditions would have different appearances, or even technically none anymore like herself, but in those cases Geraldine would find out in other ways. Geraldine still had to ask anyway out of pure curiosity and because she still remembered what colours were like... kind of. Maybe she was remembering wrong.
When the other girl introduced herself as Aleksandra, Geraldine got certain vibes that Aleksandra was the type to externally express the bare minimum, probably to give off a strong vibe. It was a bit scary, but the fact that they were talking at all meant that Aleksandra had to care even just a bit, and that counted enough.
"Nice to meet you Aleksandra. Your eyes seem nice, I thank you for indulging my curiosity as weird as it might seem." She already heavily hinted her past vision so Geraldine felt she could reveal other things too. "If you're willing to offer assistance, I'll take some. I want to learn more about this castle as quickly as possible so I don't have to rely on so much assistance in the future when everyone else gets busy." That wouldn't be good for her or anyone else. Time spent wandering is time not spent on education.
"I wouldn't mind... talking more too. This is the first actual school I've been to so I don't really know too much to expect. There are a lot of people here, sometimes I can't believe this many people exist." Now Geraldine felt like she was burdening one person in particular out of the several others who could be selected instead. "Though, that also means it doesn't have to be you if you're actually quite preoccupied yourself."
