Whispers of The Dark
This just in : In a chilling turn of events that have left residents of our once-peaceful town on edge, with the latest ttring of unexplained blackouts have seemed to coincide with the emergence of a new and particularly heinous criminal. The latest victim of the shadowy figure stalking the streets is Carlo Bianci, who was found brutally shot in the chest after the power outage. The attack resulted in the immediate need for a surgery to save his life, alas it was all in vain as Carlo went off to afterlife.
According to the distressed 911 call made by a doctor who seemed to be in the vicinity, Carlo was found in a pool of his own blood, struggling to remain conscious as he desperately tried to crawl away from the place of attack. The detective from the Police Department arrived swiftly on the scene but reportedly found no trace of the perpetrator. The lack of evidence in addition to the chaos of the ongoing blackout, has seemingly made it harder for the authorities to piece together the events following the attack.
The mysterious blackout, which has since been deemed a result of the state's overwhelmed power grid, seems to have provided the perfect cover for the new freak serial killer in town. However The town's law enforcement is working tirelessly to restore a semblance of order, those actions being increasing patrols and urging all our residents to stay indoors after dark. The community however remains in a state of heightened fear.
We hope the town will keep Carlo and his family in their thoughts this time of need and difficulty.Information Section: Please ReadReducioInformation

Notice
Every mod post, you will notice that the light goes out every time there is a murder. The light stays out for 1 minute to allow the murderer to conceal the weapon in some way and to avoid suspicion. When the light goes out, you'll hear a bang from the nerf gun and if you feel yourself getting shot with a foam bullet, you have been killed. You may lay down on the ground and play dead. You may find a funny pose to be in, whatever. When the light goes back on, a vote will be held to accuse someone of the murder.
I've been accused of a murder! What do I do?
Well dearie, you would've been considered "executed" if the majority votes you as murderer. This means that you are out. The game is over when all of the players are dead except for the detective and murderer, or when the murderer has been accused and executed.
How do I vote?
Every round, you need to send me an owl of who you're voting or accusing. Additionally you MUST post otherwise your vote will be seen as invalid.
I did not post for a round or more, what happens? (if you don't send me your vote but post, it's okay, don't worry about it.)
The murderer will likely kill you the next round.
I'm the murderer! What happens now?
Post each round. Send me your target via owl. In Character, when the lights go out, you can pull out your nerf gun and shoot your target. You will have the rest of the minute to hide the gun or conceal it.
I'm the detective! What happens now?
Post each round. Send me your accused victim via owl. You cannot be killed.
I'm a doctor! What happens now?
Post each round. Send me your accused victim via owl. There will be a second blackout in the mod post in where you will have a CHANCE of healing the shot victim.
I was a shot victim! I was healed!
Good for you, you may continue in the game. However, one of your limbs have been ic AMPUTATED so in roleplay, you would not have that limb because the doctor amputated the shot limb.
What if I have to leave Out of Character and I'm the Murderer or a Doctor or a Detective?
That's fine, just please notify us at some point. We will owl another person and give them an additional "title" for their character that they are already playing. For example: Baker is now Murderer but still the same character, you don't gain another. When it comes to a detective and a doctor, unfortunately, we won't pass it on. The game continues until its over.
Please note: We are taking actions via owl so that actions and votes are anonymous to keep the mystery. What you choose to say or do in your post whether ooc or ic can be used against you so do your best to keep your "secret" role anonymous. If you are a detective or a murderer it can be used against you if you say it out loud. We suggest coming up with an undercover job to conceal the fact. Not required, you could be vague, but what you say and do whether oc or ic can be used against you.Mod Post Content: Mods

"Merlin's unmatched socks," he'd said. She stirred, surprised.
"th —
She watched his body shake.
cough —
And she saw the tears well up in his eyes.
this is lethal!"
And her eyes went wide just in time for the accusation. "No, I just got here," she explained. She looked down at the drink her character for the evening supposedly made. It didn't look that dangerous. She was still considering it when she heard the boy introduce himself. "Maisie," she said, extending a hand, "but for the next hour or however long we are here, I'm playing Vito Rossi."
She tried to stand up a little taller in her shoes as she noticed someone sky come through. Maisie waved her over. There was no reason to be unfriendly, even if there was a murderer somewhere in here. There more quiet joiners, Maisie offered them a smile, hoping they'd open up as this all got going.
Another boy complained about the drinks as she smoothed out the fabric on her navy gown. "I don't really have a choice. I 'made' them," she told him, "I'm the Mixer." And it hadn't been great, but they'd been ok as far as she was concerned. Or, rather, as she heard from the other side of the room: "Spicy, but not too concerning." Her ears pricked up—she knew that voice.
Cupping the drink in her hand, she approach the Hufflepuff boy, tall and dark, just as he'd been in the boats. "Hey," she addressed him with a smile, "It's good to see you." She raised the glass as if to cheers with his. All this was uncertain but somehow, with the boy who'd helped protect their boat, she felt more at ease. "I never got your name, that night. I'm Mai—"
And then, all of a sudden, everything went black.
Once the lights returned and her eyes readjusted, she could only look up at Lucian as they waited for the news: Carlo was dead. And just like that night on the boats, they needed a plan. Not knowing anyone else (or the characters they were impersonating), there was only one person Maisie could trust, and he was right in front of her. She looked around and back up at him, saying nothing, but giving him a knowing nod as ask, 'work together?'

With that, the game had begun. The first black light to claim an unfortunate soul. Lucian was a bit caught off guard by the swiftness the first individual was claimed, but he wasn't going to let that stop him from coming to the truth. If there's one thing that needs to be upheld in life, it's truth, honesty, and justice. While Carlo may be dead, their death wasn't going to be in-vain. The only current evidence being that of a nerf bullet, but no sound from the actual gun used. This means the culprit could attack from a distance and up-close. No other information could really be found at that moment. If the murderer had been the mixer, wouldn't poison have been a better method? Or would that make it too obvious? Or perhaps the murderer could frame the mixer... well either way, the drinks weren't poisoned just oddly spiced in a way.
His gaze was on the young Ravenclaw girl he met on the boat ride long ago. As much as Lucian wanted to trust the girl, to say they were friends was a very long stretch. Besides, they weren't classmates but muggle individuals with "Lucian. For now though you may call me Alessio. Friendly postman of the area. If you don't mind, may I hold your hands Miss..?" Lucian was rather straightforward with it. He hoped it wasn't odd to request to hold her hands. It was to help confirm a suspicion he had to quench before he could continue onward. While his eyes stayed focused on Maisie, he still had a swift dart or twitch look at @Avery Chen... the reckless one if he were to assume.

Hmm, it's alright.. but spice belongs with food, not drinks. Eonaria had just warily picked up one of the spicy margaritas and taken a tentative sip when the lights suddenly went out. She froze, keeping a tight grip on her glass. What? The game had started already? She had envisioned some sort of welcoming speech accompanied by a review of the rules before releasing the contestants into an arena-like place. Though, now that she thought about it, that last part would be rather silly. But Eonaria didn't expect to be automatically thrown into this chaos!
The lights flickered back on and she uneasily put her glass down, looking around to assess what had happened. It turns out that a person named Carlo Bianci had been shot and no evidence was found about who did it. Eonaria looked around in confusion. Yes, the introduction had said that the person chosen to be the murderer would have a some sort of Muggle 'nerf gun,' but surely it would be harder to hide a nerf gun than an actual gun. She surreptitiously studied the other players, trying to see who could possibly hide a nerf gun under their clothes. A few of them were murmuring to each other, and Eonaria wondered if they were trying to team up. That would probably be wise, but she didn't know anyone here, other than Yolanda Yates, but barely. She had only spoken a few sentences to her in the library. It would certainly be awkward to approach these strangers. Nevertheless, Eonaria had to stay on guard.

| The lights flickered back on as Mamori ran a hand through his pink hair, fidgeting with his newsboy cap. His heart was still racing from the blackout, but thankfully he wasn't dead — which, honestly had been his first thought when everything went dark. He'd practically painted a target on his back by introducing himself to... Maisie, was it?
Come to think of it, neither he nor anyone else who'd revealed their identities before the game began had ended up dead. Which meant either the killer was targeting Carlo Bianci specifically — some sort of in-character grudge perhaps — or, one of them was the killer themselves. Not a comforting thought.
Speaking of Maisie...
He cast a sideways glance at the girl who'd served him that dragon's breath disguised as a margarita earlier. The way her eyes had widened at his joking accusation made him sigh internally — it was just his usual instinct to crack jokes at the first hint of trouble, not an actual accusation. But she hadn't played along or shot back with a quip of her own. A familiar sense of disappointment settled over him as he thought, Oh no, not another joke-free zone. Still, he'd learned her name, so that was something. A concerned-looking girl who'd approached during his coughing fit caught his eye, and he offered an apologetic smile, tapping his half-full glass while explaining "Just some unexpected spiciness," followed by a light shrug, "My taste buds weren't quite prepared for the adventure."
Scanning the gathering, Mamori tried to piece together who was who. Beyond Maisie — Vito Rossi, he corrected himself — who had drifted toward that tall Hufflepuff housemate of his, and the girl whose ID card identified her as Maria Romano, everyone else's identities remained a mystery. Something about Maisie and her companion's stance suggested they'd already formed some sort of alliance. Lucky them, finding their murder mystery buddy system while he was still sorting through the chaos.
The suffocating tension hung in the air, filled only with nervous murmurs and whispers. Everyone seemed to be playing the "whoever speaks first is suspicious" game, which was getting them absolutely nowhere. Much as he dreaded having to act, trying to channel this Sofia character was proving more challenging than those times he'd imitated his dad's rare angry outbursts. How does one properly portray someone so fundamentally different from oneself?
Oh, to hell with it.
"Well," he finally broke the murmurs, adopting what he hoped was a convincingly feminine lilt to his voice, "standing around like stunned Pixies—" he caught himself, remembering this was supposed to be a Muggle setting, "—er, like statues isn't going to solve anything." He smoothed down his imaginary apron and continued, "I may be just a simple baker, but even I know that murderers usually have motives. Had anyone... crossed paths with Carlo lately? God rest his soul..."| ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Whispers of The Dark
At last, someone's voice broke the uneasy blanket of quietness in the room. Eonaria turned around to see a first year Hufflepuff speak first, exclaiming that standing around won't help with anything before inquiring if anyone had crossed paths with Carlo lately.
Eonaria coughed awkwardly. "I'm so sorry to break character, but which one of us is Carlo? How are we supposed to know who is who?" She looked around in confusion. Eonaria felt extremely under prepared. Had she missed something in the notice for this game? So far, she only knew who two people were, the mixer and the baker, whose names she had honestly forgotten already in her nervousness. And Eonaria only knew who they were because her ears had picked up on the words they muttered together. If they were all trying to work together like detectives, she certainly wasn't helping the case much.
"Were we all supposed to announce our roles at the beginning or something?" She herself was Giovanni Moretti, the town physician. "And... well. Ahem. Sorry. Back to character. I don't believe I saw Carlo last night." Eonaria wondered if this was just making herself more suspicious. Perhaps she should just stay in the background. But wouldn't that also seem rather strange?

Whispers of The Dark
Lucian, she repeated in her mind. Smiling, it was nice to finally have a name for that face—the only face in the room that she had some familiarity with. He was a postman today, but that didn't change very much. She remembered the foray with the grindylows perfectly well.
"If you don't mind," he asked, "may I hold your hands Miss..?"
"Gemmell," she said automatically, "Margaret Gemmell. Maisie." And in that moment, she blinked, unsure why she'd started with her proper name—her grandmother's name. Usually, that was only used in something formal like paperwork at school. Pushing that to one side, she nodded and took his hands in hers. She let a second or two pass, meeting his eyes, before adding, "You probably heard I'm playing the mixer, Vito Rossi."
Unsure what was to come next in this game, it was Mamori's voice, the voice of the boy so put off by the drinks, that brought her back to reality. He'd asked a very practical question: had anyone seen or interacted with Carlo recently? Maisie shook her head, not thinking she had. Most people in this group had been pretty quiet, after all.
A Gryffindor girl seemed to call that out pretty directly as she asked who was portraying Carlo and questioning how exactly everything was meant to work. And her questions certainly weren't out of line. Still holding hands with Lucian, Maisie turned slightly to address her, "I think that's probably best. And I don't think I saw Carlo either." Of course, someone could be lying. In fact, someone should be lying as the murderer. But Maisie wanted to believe people were honest, and so that's what she pushed for. "Who are you playing?" she asked the girl, hoping to get more information. She was fairly certain after the whole spicy margarita bit, everyone knew who she was supposed to be impersonating this evening.

Whispers of The Dark

by Elena Clark
Avery could hardly hold back a chuckle-snort as a pink-haired boy 'accused' the 'Mixer' for murdering the drink-imbibers. That boy had a sense of humor. To be honest, the drink did surprise Avery with an unexpected kick as well, but it wasn't a taste foreign to him It was pleasant, once one knew what was going on in the glass they were holding.
And then, Carlo was dead. Very suddenly so. He'd hardly gotten to know anyone.
After the murder, Avery focused back to the conversation around him. "So, would you say our 'Mixer' is our suspect? Mysterious, unfazed, unrelenting, and deadly?" Avery asked, raising a brow at the pink-haired boy, who had introduced himself as '@Mamori Anezaki' or the baker, Sofia. Avery tossed the words out there just to start a conversation. He didn't quite know what to think, but if they all didn't talk too much, where would the game possibly go? How could they possibly get to know one another, or enjoy themselves? This game was prime for intrigue, after all. It was not simply a shot-in-the-dark guessing game.
The tall boy (@Lucian Allum) who had commented on the drink as 'spicy, but not too concerning' introduced himself as 'Lucian', or 'Alessio'. He was definitely an upper-year from a foreign school, given his height. What Avery did not expect was for the boy to offer holding hands with the Mixer/Vito (@Maisie Gemmell). Was he in character or out of character? Was this boy pulling everyone's leg, was this scientific research, or divination? But Avery was reckless, as Lucian predicted. "Here, why don't you hold mine later, too?" Avery offered, setting down his glass, curious to learn what was going on. "They're the tough hands of a mechanic, if you must know! I'm Luca Marino. Or Avery Chen," he introduced himself. "I've also not interacted with Carlo," he answered, since Mamori/Sofia had asked. If Lucian/Alessio were to hold his hands, he would find that Avery's hands were calloused in ways more than one: he was both a quidditch player and a violinist, after all, though Avery expected that the hands of his mechanic would be similarly worn. He was curious what Lucian would conclude.
"Maybe we should all have the chance to introduce ourselves?" Avery asked, turning to the rest of the crowd and drawing in those he had not yet spoken with (@Brookline Quinn, @Eonaria Kabukimono, @Yolanda Yates). "Let's get to know everyone a little better!" he said, brightly and hopefully.

Yolanda was very confused. Her 11 year old self was having trouble connecting everyone – and she absolutely had no idea who could be the murderer… She wondered if she’d gotten in over her head…
When the lights went dark Yolanda was not expecting it at all (even though she realized this was going to happen…) and she gave a very small shriek before quickly regaining her composure.
An older boy asked them to introduce themselves peering in the direction of a few of them while conversing with others. She was thought the older boys comment made sense.
“Er – I’m Yo – I mean, Maria: shopkeeper. Nice to meet you, Luca.” she said nervously. She hoped that was the information they were supposed to share…
“Um… who else is who now?” she questioned, trying to open up the introductions.
Yolanda took a deep breath.
“Er – so - my goodness! Carlos is dead… what a tragedy!” She pulled the back of her hand up to her forehead and sighed dramatically – trying to get into character. She was now Maria! Or at least attempting to be. Yolanda thought she was doing a great impression of Maria although in reality the young First Year was over-acting for sure. It was a fine and fun attempt.

Whispers of The Dark
In a live breaking news update, the residents continue struggling to come to terms with the second harrowing incident in our peaceful community. The somber mood is palpable, as neighbors gather in small groups. The victim this time Tony DeLuca, our resident mechanic @Brookline Quinn was found in a desperate state, shot in the left arm, and tragically lost their life even upon getting medical help..
The grisly incident occurred during the third blackout. Residents are left to feel vulnerable as they question their safety and the capabilities of the law enforcement. The Police Department has yet to confirm if the two incidents are interlinked or not, the similarities however are alarming. The authorities are asking anyone with intel to step forward in order to assist them, as they yet again attempt to emphasize the importance of our unity as the town deals with a heinous criminal on the rise. With the investigation unfolding, our the town's sense of security continues to unravel and be torn. The urgent need to bring the killer to justice grows with each passing moment.
The question on everyone's mind however. IS OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT COMPETENT ENOUGH? recent reports suggest the people still have their trust in them as the populace has yet to fall into vigilante justice or any cult like activities.Information Section: Please ReadReducioInformation
