Poppy had gotten into the habit of going to the Owlery every Friday afternoon, after she dropped of her stuff in her dorm room. She wasn't on any of the sports teams, yet, so she didn't have practice and she had all weekend to do homework. Also the owlery wouldn't get crowed until after sports and other co-curriculars were over. It gave Poppy plenty of time to get her letters and any packages, even read and respond to them, before others started to trickle in.

She opened up a letter from her father. She notices how formally he wrote without even fully reading it. Oh great, that meant he had something important to say.

My dearest Poppy,

I hope you will choose to return on the first weekend when your allowed to visit us, next week after class on November 8th.

There will be a gathering in London of many pureblood families with their kids attending hogwarts. Your mother and I have planned to stay in the city for the event. Pack your nicest dress, and accessories as not shopping before hand would leave us more family time before the festivities start.

Best wishes,
Your father.
The last thing she wanted to do was spend her one weekend home until Christmas preforming family duties, and dancing about. She just went to a dance last month! None the less the young witch took out a quill and some parchment to start drafting an acceptance response.

"Do I have to write this formerly? Probably,"

Eonaria was just leaving her Transfiguration class when she turned a corner and nearly walked right into her twin brother. "What the- Oh, hi, Raiame. Umm. How'd you know where to find me?" Her brother merely frowned and muttered something about memorizing her schedule, causing Eonaria to raise an eyebrow. "Well. Okay. What did you need?"

"November 9th to the 10th, there's another Pureblood gathering. Mother wants us to be there. So be there. I'm pretty sure Father sent you a letter, though, so I don't know why she told me to tell you." Then Raiame left without another word, thoroughly confusing Eonaria. "Wha-"

When she made it back to the Gryffindor common room, she found said letter waiting for her. After a quick scan through it, Eonaria sighed, supposing she had to write a letter back. She scrawled her response as quickly as she could while maintaining readable calligraphy before tucking it into an envelope and making yet another trip to the Owlery.

When she entered, Eonaria immediately spotted another first year, a Ravenclaw, who was writing a letter. To her surprise, she looked vaguely familiar, like she'd seen her before. But where...? Eonaria gave her letter to a nearby gray owl and awkwardly followed it to the window, letting it fly off immediately. But as she turned to leave, she caught a closer glimpse of the other girl's face. "Do I have to write this formally? Probably." The Ravenclaw muttered. Now Eonaria was definitely sure she recognized this girl! She had seen her a few times at those regular Pureblood gatherings, with the Lytle family! "Oh, um, are you Poppy Lytle?" Eonaria asked eagerly.

Poppy looked over to her fellow first year as she heard the question. “Yes, I’m Poppy.” There wasn’t a point in hiding who she was, that would be a shame to her bloodline. She definitely had seen this girl before, and not just from school. She figured she must also be a pure blood. That meant Poppy had to be careful about what she said, what she did, because anything wrong could be used as a gossip piece at the upcoming gathering.

“And you’re, a Kabukimono twin right?” Poppy didn’t learn first names much at the gatherings. The last names held more weight. They told her allegiances, implied their options on muggleborns and halfbreeds, so overall much more useful. From what she remembered of the Kabukimono’s they didn’t like muggleborns, but were tolerant of them. She wasn’t so sure on half breeds, but she imagined it would be the same or worse view.

“Did you also receive the invite?” Poppy left it vague on purpose, that way if the other girl didn’t know what she was talking about she could chalk it up to a school matter. If navigating pure blood life has taught Poppy anything, it’s that you always keep your cards close to your chest.

Poppy looked up, solidifying Eonaria's confidence in the girl's identity. "I believe I've seen you around. Eonaria tilted her head slightly. She wasn't sure what to make of the other pure-blood. She seemed friendly enough, but in politics, you never knew what offhanded comments could come back up and get you in big trouble. "Yes, I am from the Kabukimono family." She was quite proud of her background, but perhaps just a little less about her twin, who seemed to absorb their family's beliefs like a sponge and then spit them out twice fold. Eonaria certainly didn't want to give everyone she met the impression that she was just like her brother.

"The invite for the event over the weekend, yes?" If, for some reason, Poppy was not referring to the pure-blood gathering, then it wouldn't do very well to tell her about it if she wasn't supposed to know. "I recently received word about it." It was best not to be too specific. Eonaria wasn't sure if there was some unwritten, unspoken standard that information had to be conveyed to those attending within a certain period of time, and whether it had to be done directly from a higher up. Telling Poppy that her brother had told her first would be both unnecessary information and may even look bad on her father's part. "And you? Are you going?" She tilted her head up the slightest amount. The conversation felt polite, yet it held an underlying sense of tension and suspicion. But Eonaria couldn't be too unfriendly. That might potentially harm a potential alliance.

Poppy noticed the phrasing her fellow first year was using. She figured that Eonaria must also be experienced in the tricky world of purebloods. Always having to stay on your toes to make sure you don’t slip up and say the wrong thing. Poppy wished that type of navigation could be contained to isolated events, but of course the event spawned conversations like this where the same social rules applied.

“Yes I am referring to the one taking place this weekend. My family and I will be attending, how about you?” Poppy felt like she already knew the answer as she was asking it. If Eonaria was carefully guarding h to e information about the event, chances are she was participating, willingly or not. It was polite to ask though, and Poppy didn’t really know what else to ask to keep the little chat between her and the other first year going.

Poppy took a moment to seal her owl before walking over to where the flock of the wise birds rested. She lifted up her hand and one of the owls flew to her. She gave it the letter, as well as some head stretches before it flew off to Wales. Hopefully the bird was ready to make the long journey.

............................................................................................................................................ Poppy confirmed that the event they were speaking of was the one taking place in a couple of days, causing Eonaria to give a short nod. "Yes, we are attending as well. I'm looking forward to it." It seemed that both of them were slightly uneasy around each other, so maybe it was time to step up the friendliness, otherwise it would just leave them walking away awkwardly. "What do you think you're going to wear?" Eonaria smiled. She watched Poppy seal the letter she was writing and send it off with an owl, letting it fly off into the rather cloudy sky. She had a feeling that both of their letters contained similar things: a "why do I have to go?" and "okay, I'll attend" kind of response.

............................................................................................................................................ Eonaria paused while she waited for Poppy to answer, thinking back to what her family might think of the pure-blood ball. No doubt her mother would find it a tedious waste of time, as she had met most of the other families in the previous one, yet necessary nevertheless. However, her father would certainly place utmost care in the event, insisting that they all act properly with a perfect amount of decorum and that they build up relations for their future.

............................................................................................................................................ Personally, Eonaria thought he was overreacting whenever he behaved like this. Honestly, it was only a ball! She and her brother were too young to be forming any kind of marriage alliances, which had faded greatly over the past century, and they were still children. There was no need to be so uptight about the kinds of people they surrounded themselves with yet.

............................................................................................................................................ She sighed, remembering that her brother would most likely scoff under his breath at the requirements, yet still refuse to associate himself with anyone he considered 'lower' than him- which included some pure-bloods. Eonaria wondered where he had gotten that mindset, but was interrupted out of her pessimistic thoughts by Poppy's reply.

Poppy's letter was much more of an acceptance without complaint in it. She didn't want to make her parents mad after all, or do something that could come off as even a slight disrespect. Her parents both held respected jobs, not just in the doing important work way, but also in the they literally save lives.

"I'm also looking forward to it." That was until she remembered the complicated matter of deciding what to wear. Her father would like to present her as a young lady, which meant she couldn't wear the cut but admittedly childish dresses from year's prior. "Well, I might need to start wearing heels to these events." She let out a little laugh, she always liked flats more, but heels where to be expected sooner or later, and later might lead to a cause for some negative gossip surrounding her. That was the last thing she needed to come from her first gathering since starting to attend hogwarts.

"And, I have my ears pierced now, maybe dangling earnings would look nice." She could feel the weight of the round golden studs as she remembered the fact. It was one of the excited things about growing up. Sure she had more responsibilities in the pureblood world, but she also got to have more privileges to make up for it. She would sit through an event every weekend for her cat, Storm. Plus, she wasn't quite making romantic alliances. At this age, alliances were simply other pureblood friends you could count on and get approval from your parent's for.

XXXPoppy responded to Eonaria's inquiry about dress wear, replying that she might need to start wearing heels, accompanied with a chuckle. Eonaria smiled in return. "I've been wearing heels for formal events for a year or two now, but in the end they still hurt." She laughed as well. "But at least they're easier to walk in than I initially thought." Poppy also added with a bit of excitement that now that she had her ears pierced, she could wear dangling earrings to the ball. Eonaria beamed.

XXX"Oh, that's fun! I couldn't wear studs at first. But with dangling earrings, there are still tons of designs to choose from." She didn't usually put too much thought into her formal outfits, and the only thing that needed to be pre-planned, which meant more than two hours before the event, was her dress. Usually. Either way, Eonaria would probably end up forgetting to wear jewelry. She would just borrow her mother's. She glanced back out of the window.

XXXThe weather was bright and sunny now, with just a few clouds scattered across. Perhaps it was time to politely end the conversation. They could always continue at the ball, and no doubt both of them had other things to attend to- like homework. And for her, asking her brother for fashion advice. He always seemed to automatically predict what the event was going to look like and how their clothing should match. Somehow. Eonaria smiled. "Well, I'd better be going now- unless you wanted to add something?" She began to head for the exit, though she kept her pace slow to allow Poppy to call her back- just in case.

Oh no, should she not have admitted she didn’t like wearing heels? Did she just give away a valuable piece of gossip which would be used against her? Maybe she should’ve been more careful when talking about her outfit. Especially because it’s not like Eonaria said anything in return. She should’ve bounced the question back.

While her head was reeling underneath her clam mask of an expression Eonaria gave herself a way out of the conversation. She wasn’t going keep the other pure blood any longer. If such a sort conversation could be so tense, and leave her so reeled, then it was better that they just meet up again at the party.

“I’ll see you then.” She responded, making sure her voice didn’t show any of the contradictory feelings that were working inside of her.

She needed to get a hold of herself. She would be too much of a hot mess at the ball when it came if she couldn’t. “Have a nice evening.” There it was always nice to add some manners to a conversation, wishing someone farewell was always a good way to end a meeting. Adults seemed to loved it at least. She always got compliments for her good manners.
