2024/25, Stage 1 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 3

Nicky showed a thumbs up to Kim without breaking eye contact with their opponents. The game had started and they had to keep their head in it. She was already preparing for her next move and full of confidence in her team's future win. She was going to do her very best because she belonged to the best house in Hogwarts history ever, obviously. She had to make sure they'd dominate duelling championships.

It came naturally. Rose pointed her wand straight at Julian, and with a fast movement of her wrist and a muttered, "Flipendo," the spell shot across the stage towards him. The spell hit him not long after Kim's curse, and Elsa's barely missed. She felt a little bad, seeing how they all teamed up against him. It was a little unfair, but he was the youngest of the Hufflepuffs. Three spells shot towards the Gryffindors, too, but Rose sidestepped Julian's Full Body-Bind Curse, and Kim dodged one jinx, only to be caught in another one. Overall, the odds seemed pretty even, and the duel could swing either way from this point.

Hufflepuff VS Gryffindor

As soon as the duels were started, the spells flew. His focus was to point at Kim, which was his target. Unfortunately for Hades, he could not get it. And to his frustration, the Gryffindor were leading; he didn’t want to start being hard on himself because there were still several rounds ahead. There was one of the duels in which Hades could remember that the opposing team had the advantage but his team ended up winning. So anything could happen. His spell failed, but he made no comment — staying quiet.

As the youngest member of his team. Julian should've likely expected to be targetted by the other team. Somehow, he was still surprised when all three wands flashed in his direction. He managed to avoid one of the spells, but Rose's spell caught him mid-chest, pushing him back with an involuntary 'oof' and making him an even easier target for Kim's Bogey HEx. Under the circumstances, perhaps it wasn't surprising that his own spell had missed. But he was disappointed nonetheless. Rose was a formidable threat, and the duel would be far easier to win with her out of commission, even if it was only for a few minutes.

At least someone on his team managed to land a spell and he flashed a thumbs up at Jake. His enthusiasm didn't last very long, though, as he started to feel the telltale signs of mucus in his nose and at the back of his throat. Ugh. He hated the curse of the bogies.

Jake watched sympathetically as all of the spells came flying towards Julian - the younger Hufflepuff tried his best to dodge, but Jake saw his friend unable to avoid them completely. Jake at least had managed to get a hit in with the wind jinx, but otherwise things sure weren't looking great for the Hufflepuff team. "Just hang in there Julian, we'll regroup!" he said, trying his best to be supportive. But Julian had been hit with the curse of the bogies, and was bound to be having a bad time. "Okay, er, not the best start, but that's ok," Jake said, thinking about what to do next - nobody had targeted him yet which gave him an extra moment to think about what he was going to do, and who he was going to aim at. He gave a look to his team, hoping to be able to get on the same page without saying too much.

Phase Out Chance (20%): [d20: 20] → Phased Out

Effects: Julian is phased out and skips the next round.
All things considered, the next salvo of spells unleashed by both sides was not quite as explosive as the first round. It was clear the Hufflepuff side was looking to capitalize on the wind gusts they had created around Kim the previous round. Unfortunately for them, Kim seemed to have anticipate the attacks as all focus was placed into dodging the incoming spells. Despite the wind gusts, all three spells -- including one very well cast knockback jinx -- went wide of their mark.

The Gryffindor side looked to be wanting to create their own gusts of winds. Alas, that endeavor was unsuccessful; but, the side did manage to land a knockback jinx on Hades. Worse for the Hufflepuff side, something about Julian seemed off. Maybe the bogies had finally gotten to him but it was clear he was not entirely present.

The duel began and immediately both sides cast a flurry of spells at each other. For the Gryffindor side, all their attention was on Julian who managed to dodge one but not all of the incoming spells. Unfortunately for him, he suffered the effects of a knockback jinx and the curse of the bogies as evidenced by the mucus now dripping out of his nose. Instinctively, Cassius took a step back to avoid any possible leakage from the stage.

The Hufflepuff side was less fortunate but managed to find some success with a wind jinx that hit Kim with a blast of wind. It was still early in the duel but if this round was any indication, they were in for a fun match.

Nicky was mildly satisfied that her spell hit after all. The summer practice wasn't for nothing then. She wondered if there was a chance of them winning the game. But it was too early to tell. She was hoping that their good luck would hold since Kim had already been hit and she was afraid he'd become the target again. She would have to make sure that wouldn't happen. After all, they were all born to win and be the best. That's what Gryffindor was about, among other things.

They were off. Almost out of instinct, Rose aimed her wand towards Julian, the youngest on the Hufflepuff team, and said, "Flipendo." Her spell was accompanied by two more, all of which hit the poor kid. Rose winced, as she was sure the barrage of spells had to be discouraging to receive. A Knockback Jinx, a Curse of the Bogies, and a Full-Body Bind Curse? Well, at least as he hit the floor, he could feel better knowing he wouldn't be targeted until he found mobility in his limbs again. She did feel a little bad, but he was the easiest target, and their strategy had proved effective. Kim was hit by a Wind Jinx, but him and Rose were able to dodge the spells sent their way, so they seemed to be off on a better start than the Hufflepuffs, at least. Or, more accurately, better off than Julian.

Kibō watched from the shadows as the duel began. Kim glanced over at his teammates, feeling better about this. At least they were together, that was all that mattered. If they could work as a team, they could get this done! Luckily, this duel was not starting off on a bad note but it was only the first round. The first round meant nothing as all of their previous duels had started off with a bang too but when they came to round 2 and 3 they started to go downhill. But it still felt good to have all of their spells hit their opponents. On the other hand, all of their opponent's spells had missed except for Jake's, a 6th year, 2 years his senior. Kim got rocked backward by a strong jolt of wind from Jake and although it hurt he welcomed the pain. Over the past few years he'd gotten used to it. The fact that Jake had managed to hit him wasn't surprising, it was to be expected, Kim was younger. If a 6th year couldn't hit a junior 2 years beneath him that would look bad. Still, despite the fact that he'd gotten hit, Kim was happy since he'd been able to cast Curse of the Bogies and for the first time ever he'd actually managed to hit his target! Perhaps things were looking up for him... But only time would tell as the duel went on for them all.
