A new year, a new duelling season. Stepping up to the duelling stage, Cassius took in a deep breath, holding it for a moment before letting it out with a satisfied sigh. He loved duelling. It was one of the few activities that always brought him joy - win or lose. However, for this match, he would not be competing himself but moderating. The match between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff was looking like it might be explosive and a nail biter as was often the case with upperclassmen matchups.
"Alright. You all know the rules. On my mark." Cassius said, raising his hand in preparation for beginning the duel. He cast a glance towards each side of the duelling stage before rapidly lowering his arm. "Begin!"

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 3
Ever since coming back to Hogwarts, Rose had been looking forward to this duel. Dueling wasn't something she was able to enjoy during the summer breaks. She wasn't even allowed to use her wand, since she was underage. But she loved spellcasting and teamwork, and dueling was a perfect combination of both. So, with her hair carefully braided out of her face in order to keep it out of the way, she stood and waited for her time to come.
She was even more excited, since she had friends by her side. Kim had been a dueling partner of hers for quite a few duels now, and the two of them had built a friendship she had grown to appreciate a lot. She admired the younger duelist, and knew that she could always count on him when it got tight in a duel. His demeanor seemed very different from their last duel, seeming less like all the life had been sucked out of him, so she hoped he was doing better. She had dueled with Elsa once before, too, and she was very skilled, with flamboyant and powerful spell-casting.
The Ravenclaw Duelling captain called them up, and wasted no time in starting the duel. He wasn't wrong, of course. All six of them were pretty seasoned duelists, and had no ignorance when it came to the rules.
Actually, now that she thought of it, this duel was incredibly similar to their most recent duel. Rose, Kim, and Elsa against Julian, Hades, and Lea. The only thing that had changed in this one was, obviously, it was a few months later, and Jake was on the Hufflepuff side instead of Lea. It was peculiar that it happened this way, but Rose was determined to not let the same thing happen as last time. The Hufflepuffs were not to be underestimated, but as a Gryffindor, Rose couldn't help but fight for victory.
The redhead gave a nod to each of her partners, hopefully encouraging them at least a little, and cast a friendly smile to her opponents. She then took her stance, and raised her wand.

Nicky was excited to start her first duel although having to duel the Hufflepuff team right after they'd been beaten by the very same people the year before made her consider faking sickness for a bit. However, she shook that thought off pretty quickly. She was not put in the house of the brave so she could sit back and relax while her friends and teammates fought for their honor. She was going to conquer her fear, fight for her house and RAWR.

Another duel huh? Hades had expectations of winning. After the previous year and having won a pair, it caused satisfaction in the boy. He walked into the duelling club area, his gaze unexpressed as they examined who their partners were. This year it looked like he was going to do it alongside Julian and Jake, whose partners he had duelled with before. In a way, the Scottish had a little affection for his companions “Hello to both!” he greeted, then put his attention to ref. You could see he was excited...
He was surprised to see that his rivals were the same, he had believed that he could duel with other people, but you could see that it wasn’t like that. He let out a snort, looking at the ref that started the duel. The badger’s mind was wandering, remembering the chaotic fights he had been part of. During the summer, Hades took advantage of the opportunity to practice and manage his emotions better, which he could not help but ask if it was a factor that affected his duels previously.

Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 3
Jake was pretty excited this time - for the first time ever he got to team with his co-captain and friend, Julian. It was strange actually feeling excited for a duel. He hadn't teamed up with Hades before, so that would be new. He returned the wave from his team-mate, and grinned. "Ready guys?" Jake asked, feeling more confident than he'd used to on the platform. There would probably never NOT be some jitters when going up there, ready to fight for your life in combat, but he could at least control them now - he BASICALLY knew what to expect. When the lightning and fire got brought out he'd probably regret the confidence, but for now, he was pretty happy to begin.
"I vote we let Julian call the shots," he shrugged. Julian was probably the most Ravenclaw Hufflepuff he'd ever met, and he trusted his strategies a lot better than his own. Jake had never been great at strategizing. Most of his best thinking was done in quiet, and were usually geared more towards the creative. He liked thinking about things just fine, but strategizing was a whole different beast. His usual strategy on the platform was survival first and foremost.

It was an interesting fact that, even though they were both captains, and of a similar age, Julian had never gotten to be in a duel with Jake. Everyone else on the platform he'd been matched up against before. Except for Hades, who'd been his teammate many times before. But never Jake. It was a nice change of pace, and Julian smiled at both his teammates as he took the stage.
His smile crumpled a little when Jake suggested that he should be the one leading their strategy. While Julian liked to think that he had a sound strategic mind, and part of him was pleased that Jake had recognised it, the thought of being responsible for his team winning or losing made him feel positively flustered. He did not want to let Jake down.
"Oh. Well. If you like."

The duel began and immediately both sides cast a flurry of spells at each other. For the Gryffindor side, all their attention was on Julian who managed to dodge one but not all of the incoming spells. Unfortunately for him, he suffered the effects of a knockback jinx and the curse of the bogies as evidenced by the mucus now dripping out of his nose. Instinctively, Cassius took a step back to avoid any possible leakage from the stage.
The Hufflepuff side was less fortunate but managed to find some success with a wind jinx that hit Kim with a blast of wind. It was still early in the duel but if this round was any indication, they were in for a fun match.
