2024/25, Stage 1 Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 5

The other kids didn't leave Draven waiting for long. The boy chewed on the inside of his cheek, fingers drumming alongside his thigh. He stepped back, surveying the opposite team, discolored eyes landing on Cassian. His gaze flickered over to Pyxis, who'd closed the distance between them, a frown twisting his face.

"Yes, thank you for asking," Draven found himself saying, the polite response coming automatically. His voice had gotten deeper since the last time they'd been in the same room, puberty pushing it down a couple octaves. If it was deep consistently, he wouldn't have been mad about it. Unfortunately, along with the changes came breaks when he dared go too high.

Before he could push on into an equally polite conversation about Pyxis own well-being, spells begun flying around. Draven blinked, returning his attention to the kids on the other side of the room.

Right.

Dueling.

A flick of his wrist, a whispered flippendo, and a spark later, Cassian was stumbling backward. Didn't stumble quickly enough to void his spell though. Draven cursed as the world around him went dark, itchy fabric cutting into his skin.

Only one of their spells hit, which was better than none Mylo supposed. Although they would have preferred that at least one of the spells they had aimed at Elisa would have hit, but one of the opposing team was now severely disadvantaged which was a very good thing.

Gearing up to cast their next spell they hoped it would hit, or at the least that they could avoid being hit themselves again. And any of their teammates of course, as Cassian had been hit, which although he wasn't looking to bad still looked like it hurt quite a bit. Wondering what would be hurled their way Mylo tried to prepare, hoping for the best.

The spells came flying too fast. Two impressively cast and powerful Knockback Jinxes from team Slytherin. Cassian was able to dodge the first, but in doing so left himself open and in the way of the second jinx that was just behind. He staggered backward, breathing strained and coming in short gasps. But Cassian didn’t have time to fully regain his breath and was barely able to croak out his spell attack through ragged breaths. The spell, thankfully, was cast successfully and hit Cassian’s target directly. The only third year on Slytherin’s team found himself blindfolded, a dark cloth wrapped around his head, covering his eyes. That should help prevent another painful attack, at least for a moment. That was the idea anyway. Cassian took just a moment to regain his breath after having the wind knocked out of him and unfortunately didn’t have too much time to recover before the duel continued.

Receiving an affirmative response from Draven, Pyxis pulled himself back into his space and realigned with the present. It wasn't long until the moderator called for the duel to begin and Knockback Jinxes were flying across the stage. Pyxis targeted his own at the eagle upperclassman, but he supposed his aiming skills needed some work. His spell went off in the complete opposite direction of his intended opponent. The only bit of relief he felt was Elisa succeeding in her tactic to dodge whatever the Ravenclaws threw at her and Draven nailing Cassian. But the bird returned the favor with a blindfold. Pyxis narrowed his eyes, brain sorting through several strategies for the next bout of spellcasting.

As per request, moderation will not be early and the duel round will extend the full allotted 96 hours. With that, there are around 5 hours in this round to send in actions:

The targets were chosen and it seemed both wanted to bring their singular opponent down before anything else. Everyone kept their wands trained on Cassian or Elisa, only one astray while another down at Draven fiddled with the blindfold covering his eyes.

On the Slytherin side, Pyxis opted for the same spell, intent on rectifying the past miss perhaps, while Elisa finally brought up their wand after an effective round of bouncing about to train it on Cassian. It would be the Flipendo that flew first, the movement a loose yet quick with a precision significantly improved since last time. It was a drastic jump, neither Lea nor Cassian seeming to anticipate it as the Ravenclaw once again felt a blast to his chest that left him stumbling and the wind knocked out. It would be enough of a gap in his evasion that Elisa would also take advantage, opting for a clean Spongify instead as the spell managed to hit his wand. He would feel the wand grow softer, the effect enough to make future casts a little more challenging for a moment.

As for the Ravenclaw side, their luck did not match that of their opponents'. The hits Cassian sustained seemed to alter his aim, the spell cast still clean yet whizzing past just out of reach of Elisa. It seemed her dodging streak would continue for the time being, Cassian the only one to suffer from magical punches. That soon would change though as Jessamine took her opportunity to cast- it seemed her wand preferred the theatrics, one second the most precise cast Lea had seen, the next all of that power blowing up in the Ravenclaw's face. The Flipendo meant for Elisa would be painfully felt by the Duelling Captain instead, a wave of pain reverberating through her arm. Mylo would focus on Draven instead, able to take their time as the other hassled with his blindfold. It would make it far easier to hit, waiting for just the moment Draven removed the cloth around his eyes to hit him with the new spell. Unfortunately for the Slytherin, he would only get a moment to glance around his surroundings before another blindfold wrapped around his face. It was almost comedic, glancing at Mylo to see what the other thought of their spell cast. Would this continue onto the next round? Only time would tell...

Another round started again, leaving the young Slytherin girl no time to catch her breath. Immediately, barely thinking back to the spells she wanted to cast, Elisa raised her wand to cast Spongify on Cassian. Just before her spell reached the opponent, Pyxis's Flipendo got there first.

Out of the corner of her eye, Elisa saw both spells hit, but before she could do anything more, a flash of light came hurling her way. Without even having time to think, she twirled to the side, barely missing the fiercely cast Flipendo.

Before Elisa could set her foot down and steady herself, yet another wand pointed at her. Just as she blocked the flashing lights out with her eyelids, preparing for the damage, she was surprised that nothing, in the end, came at all, only reopening her eyes to see that the spell had backfired to its caster. Releasing her tightly held breath, Elisa steadied herself, ready for the third round.

This wasn't really going as planned, at least the blindfolding spell Mylo had thrown at the already blindfolded Draven had hit, so that wasn't too bad. But once again neither of the spells that had been thrown at Elisa had hit her, she was very good at evading.

Noticing that both of their teammates had been hit, and Cassian seemed to have been hit with something that was affecting his spell casting, Mylo steeled their thoughts. Wondering what would be the best course of action. Hoping that their teammates were on the same wavelength Mylo levelled their wand at the opposing team again. Hoping to everything that things wouldn't continue the way they had for the past few rounds.
