Action: change out the pillow covers for new ones

It was early Saturday morning, October 5, when Nina walks past the errand board. 'Hey, new errands are up, ' she thought to herself. It was then when she sees a new message from the Divination Professor Clairmont to help out in the Divination classroom and office. There were still a few open spots to help out. Hanging up curtains, ' better not, not so good with heights.' Changing out pillow covers, 'maybe.' Placing new rugs, 'No to heavy. So, pillow covers it is.'

Knowing she had never been up to the Divination classroom before, she felt excitement. Here she was, new to Hogwarts, just a first year here to see and learn new things. Walking up to the North Tower to find the Divination classroom, she met other people who had the same idea and also wanted to help out and clean the classroom and office.

Upon entering the classroom, she saw a few students already busy at work. Walking up to the professor, she said, "Hello Professor Clairmont, I'm Nina Meier, a new Ravenclaw first year. I came to help with the changing of the pillow covers. Could you please tell me where I can find the clean covers?" Professor pointed to a big linen closet in the office.

Walking to the linen closet, Nina looked around the classroom and office. She counted at least 50 pillows around. Thinking to herself, 'wow, there are a lot of pillows. This will take some time to do them all. Better get starting!'

Opening the big door of the linen closet, she saw a lot of different colored covers. Looking around in the office, there was no logical pattern as to where each color went, so she takes out the first set of covers and places them on the corner of the professor's desk. Finding all kinds of different patterns and colors, Nina starts to mix and match the covers.
Then, finally, she started to collect all the pillows lying around in the office. This took a little time, too. By the time she could start her actual errand of changing the covers, she was beginning to get tired.

Looking around the room, seeing a lot of other students help out, she was thinking. 'This must be a good class and a great Professor if so many student help out. Maybe I will need to take this class when 3rd year comes around.'

5th Oct, 17.00: after classes

Yesterday, in the library, Sabrina heard some third-year Griffindors talk about a certain errand from the Division professor. Upon further investigation, she learned that theres a 'Spring cleaning' happening in the tower, open for anyone to join.

She herself didn't know much about said subject. Actually, she wasn't even really sure how it worked.

She also had no ambition in signing up for it in her third year, but she supposed this'd be a fun way of finding out more about it. Seeing the room where it all takes place, the objects used...

Who knows, maybe once she learns a bit more about it, she'll find that it's her true calling! Running away into the woods to spend her life in touch with nature, hunched over a crystal ball, murmuring to herself like a crazy woman.

Plus the reward was two chocolate frogs and one housepoint, and who was she turn that incredible offer down?

So today, she found herself climbing the seemingly endless set of spiral stairs, silently cursing her pastself for not dropping off her heavy bag at the dorms first.

Panting, she finally reached the small platform, leading to the only classroom there. She had to lean against the wall for a moment, hand on her side as she tried to calm her breathing. She thought she already had some practice from climbing to the Ravenclaw chambers everyday, but appearently not.

Straightening her hair and clearing her throat, she pushed the door open, peering into the room. It was big, just as everything in Hogwarts, not build like the standart classrooms.

The whole circular place looked like a streched out carpeted set of stairs, round tables standing on the "steps". The professor must've gave the lecture from the bottom, the flat space visible from all the seats, a big chalkboard on the wall behind it, a list of tasks now written on it.

Sabrina could only imagine what the room looked like while actually functional, recognizing that this was only the bare bones of it.

Other students were already putting up maroon curtains, smoothing out tablecloths and distributing crystal balls.

Sabrina hopped down the stairs, waving and greeting the other students, feeling full of energy yet again.

Going through the list, she had settled on reorganizing the shelves, standing on her toes to write her name next to the task.

It wasn't really that much of a difficult chore, as she wasn't even doing it alone. She and some other girls chatted through the whole thing, placing all of the shelfs contains on a nearby table, dusting them off and throwing away the broken sticks, which Sabrina learned were called 'Kau shim sticks'.

After they were satisfied with how they re-organized the objects, they left the classroom together, deciding on going to the dinner.

In the end, Sabrina wasn't more interested in the subject than before, but she had a pleasent evening helping out and meeting new people.

─────Zelda wasn’t certain what had possessed her to volunteer for Professor Clairmont’s impromptu cleaning crew. Curiosity, she supposed. It would be another two years until she could take Divination, after all, and it seemed a shame to miss out on exploring the North Tower until then. It would give her the opportunity to see if the subject was worthwhile, too, or full of the ‘stuff and nonsense’ her grandfather was always railing against.

Dusty chaos aside, the classroom was quite nice. Zelda hovered near the trap door for a touch longer than necessary, admiring the tapestries and knickknack-laden shelves as she twisted her hair up into a low bun. It was beyond bizarre to think that one might be able to predict the future with any of the items strewn about here. Cards, candles, animal bones -it really was just as fascinating as it was strange.

Since her time up here was limited, she wouldn’t have time to inspect them all. Naturally, Zelda had to get her hands on a crystal ball; if she only had the time to study one divinatory tool, then it had better be the most legendary one of them all. Trouble was, Zelda wasn’t certain how she could assign herself a task that would be both helpful to Professor Clairmont and conducive to fulfilling her personal goal.

Let’s see…well, she was far too small to be of any use with hanging the new curtains. The rugs could prove troublesome, too. It looked as though the tablecloth situation was under control, so, really all she had to do was come up with an excuse to avoid the pillows and the crystal balls would be all hers.

A feather allergy, Zelda decided with a firm nod. No one would question that, and it had the benefit of being almost true. Thrilled to have her cover story in place, the first year raced off to the table heaped with crystal balls. They were quite a bit smaller than she’d first imagined, so Zelda had no trouble scooping up two in one go.

They did not feel especially magical. They didn’t look it, either, not when they were all inert and transparent instead of brimming with a thick, mystical fog. Zelda set one of the balls on top of the nearest student table. No change. She nudged it closer to the center. Still nothing. Frowning, she plopped down onto a cushion and fixed the crystal ball with a serious stare. It had to do something eventually…right?

Evony Senoj - Hanging up the new curtains on the windows - WC: 517 / 400

After finishing her last bit of homework, Evony climbed the many stairs to the Divination classroom and slipped in quietly, a little embarrassed about being so late and hoping nobody would notice. But as she looked around, she found that most of the hard work was already done. It looked like the tarot decks were reassembled and organized, trash thrown away, crystal balls, mirror, and windows were cleaned, floor was swept, shelves were reorganized and dusted… Now that the cleaning was mostly finished, there were only a few students still setting up the new look for the room: a student was laying out new creamy white tablecloths (Evony noted the intricate white patterns that seemed to be a theme throughout the decor), another was changing out the pillow covers for new ones, another was laying out new, light purple rugs, and a couple more were putting the candles and crystal balls back on the tables. The classroom was looking so fresh - light and peaceful.

She looked around the room for something to do (not really wanting to join in with another student she didn’t know well). She noticed that the old curtains were folded and the new curtains and drapes were sitting next to them by the windows, ready to be set up, and decided this would be her task.

She picked up the folded, sheer curtains and shook them out. She laid them across a table and tried to smooth out the fold lines the best she could. Next, she grabbed the drapes. She took a moment to admire the fabric: a sheer, light purple with white patterns… They matched the rugs beautifully! She shook them out as well and carefully laid them atop the curtains. She dragged a chair over to start on the first window. As she hooked the fabric onto the rod, she looked around the room a bit. The crystal balls, tarot decks, tea cups… she couldn’t help but feel a tinge of envy and longing. She wouldn’t be able to take Divination until her Third Year - so long to wait! She was thankful to get a bit of a peek at the room at least through volunteering to help clean.

As she moved to the second window, Evony struggled a bit to slide the fabric onto the curtain rod. She let her left arm fall and shook it out from her shoulder. Her arms were tired, making her realize she wasn’t very strong… Perhaps she needed to work out more. She sighed in frustration as the fabric kept snagging on a tiny chip in the rod. She tried to readjust the curtain, but then she nearly lost her balance as the chair tipped. Thankfully, she caught herself. She took a deep breath, realizing that she could have taken the whole thing down with her if she fell; that would have been embarrassing.

She finished hanging the curtains and returned the chair where she found it. She stepped back and admired her work. Beautiful! Proud of having contributed, she smiled and waved at the staff in the room before she quietly left.

Evony has left the Divination Classroom.

The divination classroom was quite the hike—but helping Professor Clairmont was well worth the extra bit of exercise. Della had started divination classes last year a bit skeptical; in the muggle world, she thought predicting the future was usually the domain of scam artists. But Professor Clairmont had opened her eyes to how complex and studious the art could be. It had its limitations and understanding it would allow her to separate from the clairvoyants from the charlatans. And maybe Professor Clairment had foreseen Della's assistance today, and she really didn't want to disappoint fate.

When she entered the classroom, the caretaker and history professor were overseeing the gaggle of students already hard at work. The classroom really did look new and vibrant. A few tasks were left unchecked on the board. New curtains and new rugs? Ah, so they were even redecorating today. That was honestly more fun than cleaning. Della spotted Pax hauling a large rug all by themself. "Hey Pax! Let me help!"

The two Gryffindor captains had just started being on more regular speaking terms, had found they had a lot in common, and had made some plans to attend the fall ball together. It was fulfilling Della's goal of having more friends outside the broom racing team that she could bump into around the castle and discuss things that weren't racing. Plus, and Della didn't want to jinx this, Pax was pretty cute.

Della hurried over to the second rug that was still rolled up. She carefully removed the purple rug from its packaging and dragged it over to its brethren. It was a deeper shade than the one Pax had laid down, but they complimented each other nicely and fit Professor Clairmont's cozy, starry aesthetic. She unrolled dropping, lining it up so that it was flush with the other rug. "Hmm, honestly that seems a little too perfect. What about this?" She grabbed the rug and gave it a little spin so that its corner was resting on the other new one, a little haphazardly. It looked much better—it had that je ne sais pas, that unexpected feeling—fitting for a classroom that attempted to divine the unknown.

Della spent a few more moments fidgeting with it, trying to get it perfectly askew. Then she looked over at the remaining rolls of new rugs. "I probably shouldn't take as long as with all the rest of the rugs, huh? We'll be here all night."

Haven, you absolute whackadoo, she told herself as she ran up flights of stairs. First, she signs up to help clean- she doesn't even like cleaning- then, she's running late for it, doing homework of all things! Who even was she! Well, the running late was very on par for her, but the rest of it, not so much. Who even does homework on a Saturday? Haven, apparently. She didn't even bother getting out of her pajamas- oh gosh, Haven was still in her pajamas. That was wholly embarrassing. Slippers and all.

But she was already running late, so there was no time to turn around and go back. She'd have to just deal with it. She was going to show up in her pajamas. It was a fashion statement, right? Surely she'd worn worse things before. She could probably even pass it off, if it weren't for the slippers. But, it could be worse. It could always be worse, she had figured out many years ago.

When she finally finished climbing all those stairs, Haven did her best to slip in unnoticed, which was a bit harder than anticipated. Being a sixth year, and growing a significant amount over the last summer, she was quite a bit taller than most of the heads in the room- which she realized were rather uncharacteristically short, and very unfamiliar... probably due to the fact that they were mostly first and second years, she realized. Well, they were probably just as good at Divination as her. Luckily, there was still a decent amount of upperclassmen, so maybe no one noticed her. Or the fact that she was in her pajamas.

She made haste to get busy and not keep standing around like she had no clue what she was doing, even though she had no clue what she was doing half the time. After checking the task list, she grabbed a set of curtains and drapes to try to put them up. Surely it couldn't be that difficult, right?

Haven should really stop underestimating tasks like that. She attempted to wrestle the curtains onto the curtain rod, begging them to go through the tiny little curtain openings where she could thread them through. Not to mention that she had to do that four separate times for the one curtain rod. Cross interior decorator off her list of careers, not that she had much of an idea for one anyway.

Once she was done losing her fight with the curtains, it was time to put them up. There was probably an easier way to do this, but Haven, in all Haven fashion, could not think of a better one, and thus resorted to her first idea. She clamored up onto the windowsills, careful to keep her footing, especially since she was wearing slippers. Perhaps she should have taken them off, but she was in much too far now. Plus, slippers seemed a lot more socially acceptable than the bare dogs. So they stayed on, and Haven did her best not to die a terrible horrible death via windowsill.

When the curtains were finally in place, Haven breathed a sigh of relief. Take that, curtains! She won. Well, against the curtains, that was. They were on just fine and looked great, but the windowsill was up a lot higher than she thought. Getting up had been no problem, but down? That was a whole other monster.

She clung to the wall, trying desperately not to fall to her death. It was really only like a three foot drop, but still. It seemed a lot higher up. After taking a deep breath, Haven determined that she would not let some silly windowsill get the best of her, and simply jumped off.

Haven was really not that graceful.

She landed right on her behind, and much to her horror, one of her slippers jumped off her feet.

She lay there, in defeat, for a few moments, before promptly skeddaling.
Remind her to never do one of these again.
