The Britalian had never really been much of a breakfast person--usually such breakfasts boiled down to a glass of milk, an apple or a banana, and maybe a frittata-esque quiche or breakfast pizza if it was somewhere close to him. Because of this, and because of the fact that he didn't really get letters all that frequently other than one that came every week or so from his dear Durmstrangian twin or once in a while from Mathilda about some level of correspondence or other that Piérre often only thought about long enough to execute whatever request or task was asked of him before completely forgetting what it was that he had done to do so, Piérre didn't often find himself anticipating letters or packages. He didn't really ask for much, and he didn't really want for much. It was a rather pleasant and comfortable way to live, truthfully.
He was deriving amusement by idly blowing bubbles in his milk through a chocolate wafer 'straw', people-watching as was his natural tendency whilst disguised in a daffodil yellow school uniform. Already, students were exchanging notes and starting rumors about their peers all over again. Anticipation of the foreign schools coming to Hogwarts within the next few weeks was all the rage currently, but Piérre was less than exhilarated for the foreigners to arrive outside his own brother's coming. Besides some of Romeo's friends, it was mostly only Romeo that he cared most about talking to and catching up with. Romeo and Valentin, steadfast friends despite being separated by different schools and a factor of a few hundred miles. He found himself wondering, instead, what kind of strange happening would unfold next. They always seemed to occur around this time of the year for some odd reason...
Owls were coming down to deliver letters to the other students, dropping their packages and notes before quickly fluttering off again in the hopes of getting some worthwhile rest and relaxation (or at least temporary variables of each) from the comforts of Hogwarts' Owlery. Piérre was less than interested in these as well. It wasn't like he was going to get anything, after all. From the top of his eyes he saw a rather oblong package being carried by a trio of barn owls. Raising his eyebrows for a moment as he stopped blowing bubbles, he figured it was probably a new broom for some young and aspiring firstie... or maybe a present from a really rich relative to one of their beloved young wards. Humming under his breath as he shifted his sitting posture, he leaned forward on his elbows and returned his attention to the white bubbles gradually turning praline.
That was, until there was a series of twittering among the three owls--the middle cream-colored one who seemed to be leading the two melanistic ones 'barked' quickly at its compatriots before slowly guiding the package downwards slowly and with great care as if they were carrying a highly breakable item. Glancing up again out of curiosity, Piérre nearly jumped out of his seat as he realized that the creatures were hovering over his own head, trying to maneuver their ways into the best position to make the delivery. Tied around the narrow end of the package there was a fluttering card with his name--his full name--written on it.
Consegna solo a Piérre Luigi Marchonné
Deliver only to Piérre Luigi Marchonné
It was in a slightly swoopy but very angled script, the script of a left hand judging by the smudges--from personal experience, Piérre knew the pains of the "off-handed" writing style. "Ah-ah...?" He found himself lost for words as he stood up hastily, knocking over his milk and causing it to splash across the table, much to the dismay of those in his immediate vicinity. A package? For him of all people? He nearly tripped over the table bench in haste to free his long legs from its confines, stumbling almost head over heels so that he could collect the item.
Gently taking the package from the raptors, the boy blinked owlishly at the delivery, weighing it in both hands before focusing his attention on the card proper. There was a lot more ink on it than he had first thought, almost bleeding through the parchment in places. The quality of the medium seemed most akin to something that was likely diary or notebook paper. Thin fingers curiously opened up the seal, revealing a strange and almost spastically drawn piece of art. It too was smudged, fuzzy on the edges, jagged and crisp in some areas and yet completely sharp in others, particularly in the poses of the two men it depicted locked in an armed fisticuff. A single character served as a signature, in the same angled and swooped script--smudged as if by a left hand:
On the other side, as Piérre turned it over in curiosity, was more handwriting, smudged but legible.

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Hogsmeade Station, time 10:35am on 12 October.

Do not bring friends unless you feel you require them for your safety.
I will speak only to you, but I promise you no harm.
Brows creasing in wonder at the strangely cryptic message... and at the strange piece of art that had been attached to it, the boy tucked the card and paper under his arm to temporarily stow it before focusing on the plain brown wrapping paper that was tied up with twine. Loosening the twine, the paper fell away in bits until the entire package came apart.
There in his hands, now freed from its confines, was a gorgeous broom in gold blonde and dark mahogany. Fanciful golden design spindled its way around the broomshaft and knob, little divots for hand grips were clearly carved into the wood for ease of hold, and pre-bored holes for the purposes of hosting riding stirrups were located in a few different positions for the comfort of the natural lay of the rider's legs in flight. With the broom there was a certificate ensuring its authenticity--a document thanking the buyer for their purchase of a Starsweeper XXI, written totally in Italian.
Green eyes roved over the broom, Piérre's mouth open in awe as he beheld the top-of-the-line broom that rivaled even the Firebolt in its preferred field of work--the racing course. He was entirely new to racing, had planned on using Luciana for the remainder of his time on the team, and had had no anticipation of ever really getting an upgrade...
And yet now in his hands he held one of the most coveted and envied brooms that was on the market.
"A Starsweeper XXI... how in the... who...?" Piérre pulled out the card again, scrutinizing the handwriting again before flipping the card over to behold the artistic rendition once more. A young man with his forearm locked in against the forearm of a much larger, stronger man. The young man was lunged, the elder man leaned back with an almost eerily relaxed posture that was far more authoritative. Brows furrowed. "What in the world...?"
It seemed too strange overall. A little too convenient, almost, for what seemed to be an initial rational analysis of what the portrait was. What was more confusing, though... was who it was that could have sent it to begin with--especially with such a rich and--quite frankly--generous gift to boot.

Sonya had a REALLY crummy night. First, she tried to learn the Stunning Charm on her own and ended up blasting herself when she screwed it up, then she had to spend an hour in the Hospital Wing since some kid lost his arm (Don't worry, they found it!) and another kid turned her head into a balloon.Sonya talking: #6600ff
Interacting with: @Piérre Marchonné
Now, Sonya had to go to the Great Hall late because the owl of one of her dorm mates took a crap and owl poo was on the dorm door and the door handle.
Basically, Sonya REALLY wanted to murder a full Scottish Breakfast, which is like a full English Breakfast, but better. Then again, as half a Scot, Sonya's biased.
As she walked past the Thundercats- err, Gryffindor table, she saw Piérre Marchonné, the co-captain of Dueling for the Lion-lovers, as Sonya called them sometimes. She then noticed the amazing broom and her eyes widened before she approached. She ducked down, slightly hoping to jump scare him as she said, "¡Oh, Dios mío, amigo! Is that a Starsweeper XXI?!"
She then noticed the picture of the man about to be strangled(?) by the younger man, but chose not to say anything at the moment and pretend she didn't see it, though it did make her slightly wary of the broom.
Paranoia is healthy kids.

She spotted the owls before the recipient, as she usually did, for birdwatching and peoplewatching were each morning activities for the snakelet. They went hand in hand, truly, for the letter or package someone was receiving could tell you loads about them.
Take the large and oddly broom shaped package on the claws of three beautiful barn owls, for instance. How mysterious. She tracked it with her eyes to none other than the Phantom himself, @Piérre Marchonné. He was a Hufflepuff today, much like when she had first happened upon him.
It was like the broom, for that was what the package most certainly was, only those blind or lacking synapses with the ability to fire would not be able to tell, created a pull to draw her in, to see what sort of gift the Don had received, to satisfy the inkling of broom collector's hunger that had made itself known since receiving Albany.
"Buongiorno Good Morning! Isn't it?" she asked as announcement, sipping her tea and seating herself across from him. His milk has spilled all over the place, Astra noted absentmindedly, and she fetched her wand from her pocket to perform the cleaning spell. "Scourgify." By this point, he had already read the curious note and had begun to tear into the package. Astra's eyes swept over the gorgeous piece hungrily, slowly rising to her feet, jaw slack. "A Starsweeper XXI..." And possibly the most stunning one she had seen yet. Though, admittedly, she had not seen too terribly many in person. "Piérre, she's wonderful! She, right? That gold trim has got to be she." She did not touch, but her fingers hovered over the intricate pieces.
She tore her eyes away from the broom at the loud and near Spanish exclamation, her mind barely still in summer mode flashing to Helena, her excited heart skipping two beats as she thought the witch was near. But alas, it was a Ravenclaw. Who, admittedly, looked familiar, but must not have been important enough to know. @Sonya Herrera

A subconscious chill would settle further when the young Slytherin Astra would also take a seat across from Piérre himself. He would welcome her to his presence with a bright grin and a similarly bright "Buongiorno! Good Morning!" to boot.
Over the past half year Piérre had gotten the privilege to get to know Astra a bit better than merely observing her from afar as he would for most others. It had certainly helped that he had recently elevated her position in his underground operations, resulting in getting to work with her more.
Nasty rumors had been circulated about Astra. Piérre didn't believe them, and he would be damned if anyone else dared to wrongfully accuse her over them.
She, like he, had been flabbergasted by the precious item. "I--uh..." I mean... he did have another broom, and she had a name... "Yyyyyeah. Yeah." A faint if uncertain smile began to form. "Yeah, a name. I think she needs to earn it." A small nod, more confident with every passing second. "Like Luciana did. You can touch her if you want. I trust you." He, in fact, offered the broom for Astra to hold if she desired. After all, it would give him more time to inspect the card unimpeded by the delivery proper.
The two darker barn owls, seemingly content with the fact that their burden had been delivered, began to fly off. The lighter cream one stuck behind, observing Piérre with enormous and soulful eyes as he continued to inspect the message that it had given to him.
Well, do consider the boy surprised, for indeed as enthralled as he was with the broom that he was still handling and the notecard he was still continuing to turn in his hand he did not notice a newcomer approaching from behind and exclaiming quite loudly her thoughts aloud. Tensing up for a second at the Spanish exclamation [an exclamation, interestingly enough that he was able to subconsciously translate due to the shared roots of the romantic languages], Piérre nearly fumbled the card to the ground as his eyes widened in secondary shock, but he snapped towards the evocation and then recovered, shaking his head and concurring with her. "Y-yeah...!" He said enthusiastically but still uncertainly. "I don't... don't know why I got this or whatever... but... yeah!" He smiled shakily, still looking at the card and then beginning to inspect the picture a bit closer.
He was stuck upon looking at the face of the elder man. That face... the silhouette-like impression of it. That single eye was dark and stormy, cerulean like his brother's... but the pupil, that gleaming seat of the soul, had no light in it. It did not reflect the remnants that managed to reach them... it consumed them and devoured it whole... The added fact that he now knew that that vengeful, empty eye was in fact a component of what had made him did nothing to alleviate that chilling sensation of being stared through. Of being watched. Hunted. Observed. As if he were a small rodent, and it were the eye of an eagle.
It was always the sensation of being looked at with eyes, wasn't it? Eyes of his classmates, eyes of those that he had let down, eyes of those who wished harm, eyes of those that wished pity. So many eyes, and so many obsessions that had driven him to the brink and beyond it more times than he could count. Even as his health had improved both mentally and physically, the memories of the things he had done even under influences continued to haunt and creep--the damages that had been done were ones that could not be mended.
Perhaps as a performer he should not have been as paranoid about such things. But as a young man, as one trying to tread water just enough to keep one's head above the water... he most certainly did. Swept together in fingers to collect the sparkling fragments of the old memories like diamond dust... slipping through his fingers to never be recovered...
The eyes on his back...
'Ricorda le mie parole, ragazzo: un giorno prenderai la tua morte. Segnateli bene, perché quando lo farete, giuro che sarà per mano mia. Mark my words, boy: one day you will catch your death. Mark them well, for when you do, I swear that it will be by my hand.' Played the growl of the silken voice in the boy's mind once more as he remembered even as that eye had turned foggy and uncertain then--the effects of the sleeping draught working its magic slowly but surely. E non sarà indolore, te lo assicuro. And it will not be a painless one, I assure you.'
"Yeah, definitely a 'she'." Piérre mused to himself before turning the picture over and looking at the message proper once more. The 12th, huh...? Not too long before the schools came to visit. His brother wouldn't be around... Nor would Valentin. The two people that he had come to trust the most after so many of his other relationships had fallen so disastrously away, two people he would not have access to on that day to answer the obvious and strange summons.
Was there a reason for this specific date? A reason for the assurance? The handwriting did not look like Gitano's, though... but then again Piérre had very little exposure to the unpleasant man outside of the drugging. Knowing his unsavory reputation, was it not a possibility that forgery could very well be a part of his repertoire? "Probably something to do with gold, maybe?" He glanced at Astra, still flipping the paper between his fingers like it was a fidget.
He glanced at the other girl. "I... don't believe I've met you. You like brooms? Quidditch player? Broom racer?" A faint smile began to return, the gleam in his eyes heightening once more even as he continued to consider the possibilities and purpose...
Figaro leapt up on Piérre's seat, beginning to playfully bap at the barn owl's folded wings.

As he asked his questions, Sonya sat on the other side of Piérre. "Name's Sonya. As for the questions, I like brooms, but I don't race or play Quidditch. However, I do love a good mystery." Sonya leaned in to look at the picture, now somewhat invested. "Mysterious picture, brand-new super expensive broom, two people with some... unusual rumors about them, and a slight look of concern on your face. Smells mysterious to me." Sonya then smiled, with a look that made it seem like she wanted to do something reckless.Sonya talking: #6600ff

Now, for a second year, Sonya is very clever. If you called her Sherlock to be rude, she'd thank you.
She focused on the card. "Let's see... The tall guy with the beard doesn't seem to be mad, but the smaller guy is attacking him anyway. Excuse me." Without waiting for permission, Sonya plucked the picture out of Piérre's hand and quickly noticed the French words written down. "My French is a bit sloppy, but unless I'm mistaken, this should say to meet with someone on the 12th of October and to bring friends only if you need them for safety. Wait a minute..." Immediately, some stuff started to click in Sonya's head. "What if the person who sent this is a Seer? Or at least knows one? What if you go there and the picture becomes reality? Or NOT going causes a series of events that leads to that moment? Lord, I hate the future. "
Sonya pulled out a notebook with various tags, labeled things like Hogwarts Problem Kids, Secret Passages, School Mysteries, Ghosts To Trust, and strangely enough, House Elves To Blackmail For Extra Dessert.
Sonya flipped to the Problem Kids section. "I have nothing written down about you, Piérre, or about Astra here-" She looked up real quick at Astra. "Hello, by the way." She then looked at her notes again. "Nothing I have would give a reason for something like this, but to be fair, I have my own issues to go through. Makes sense I'd miss something."

Sonya's words, which were very quick and rather loud to the snakelets ears, seemed to snap her out of her trance. Two people with some unusual rumors. She bristled. Her fangs were ready. But it seemed they were not needed, for the hyper eagle moved on quickly.
Her assessment of the drawing... Well, art's interpretation was very fluid, and while it was quite rude of the girl to snatch it from Piérre's hand, the action provided Astra a momentary glimpse. The attacker didn't always have to be the one with his foot forward. The true attacker, anyway.
Anyone could see, that was not French. Firstly, there were not enough apostrophes for it to be the language of love. Secondly, Piérre was not French, but Italian, an ethnicity with a different romance language attached. And it made far more sense for someone to write to him in Italian. Not French. "That- that's not French," Astra said with furrowed brow as she fully tore her gaze away from the broom. Sonya had probably translated it wrong then, since she was translating from a different language all together.
The girl had a notebook, not really surprising at this point. Astra couldn't help but think how utterly compromising a notebook could be, especially one unenchanted. Then again, it could be enchanted. But there were spells for that sort of thing all the same. "Hi," she responded in a confused sort of tone, as if she had lost the plot three chapters ago. Which was not very far off the mark. "G- Sonya, I don't think whatever you have written in your notebook is going to help your deductions." Most of the information she had in there was probably wrong, anyway, Piérre was a very private person and quite enigmatic to say the least, most anyone knew about him was some sort of stretch. Or that was the impression she got, at least, even of her own petite and precious supply of facts. "And it's not your place, either."

Well it was surely almost a certainty that Gitano had not been very happy about waking up the way that he had after Piérre had drugged him that one time. He didn't know, however, just how well the man would or would not hold a grudge. Romeo had been acting all finicky during the summer camp though he refused to explain why. Things were, perhaps, uncomfortably quiet--a rare instance of the cat getting away with the cream? Something that he likely should be thankful for and find it in himself not to question as it was, most likely, a good thing?
"Hey~!" Came the ejaculation when the sketch was snatched from his hand, green eyes immediately finding themselves heavily creased under their furrowed brows in a mixture of intrigue and distaste. There was a turning of Figaro's attention from the owl as a low sound came and went in his throat, but the owl regained his attention too quickly to act on a non-threat. Piérre's brow arced. "You like mysteries, huh?" Funny. He used to like them too before they had very quickly taken to tearing him apart with the madness of the need to either solve or to alleviate. "Well, Sonya, perhaps you know, then, that one of the bases of good investigation is to 'look, don't touch'." The upper corner of his lip twitched unconsciously, an uncomfortable attempt by the muscle to expose an incisor in a snarling smile that was crushed down far before its completion. The name went to his memory, filing itself and trying to tie together strands of his own knowledge based on the reputations of the school that slipped from incautious lips and loose tongues. "Especially when you don't entirely know what you're dealing with. That being said,"
Piérre glanced to Astra, feeling tension alleviate itself from his shoulders as he reassured himself there was no good reason for the terseness. He tapped the tip of his nose thoughtfully. "I don't blame the ambition. Tact, however, is a refinable skill." A full, secretive grin was flashed to the younger snakelet behind the obscuring hand. "And Astra is right. This is Italian: my mother tongue. French has its roots in Italian's roots of Latin, but the linguistics are very different. The paper would have to be many times larger just to fit in all the silent letters that wouldn't even be pronounced in practice." Came the backhanded tease of the particular romance language before with two fingers he plucked the picture back in the same manner in which it had been taken from him to begin with. He folded it up and put it behind his back, keeping his hand only slightly open towards Astra just in case the curiosity became too much for herself to bear.
The speakeasy smile returned once more. "Those are a few interesting theories of yours." He tipped his head slightly, his gaze flicking down at the notebook for a few seconds in a brief attempt to glean anything of particular interest. "And honestly your guess is as good as mine." He certainly had most immediately had the thought that the image could well be a precognition of some kind--especially since the handwriting was unfamiliar and the characters on the image were very strangely similar to the appearances of two people that he knew at least on a more basic level.
Himself... and Gitano.
"Could be someone with a knack for premonition, seer or otherwise." Piérre was willing to leave the benefit of the doubt on the table due to his personal skill with the art. "But like Astra said, I don't think the letter came from someone on the inside. I've run into precious few others here who speak my language fluently enough to write a grammatically correct letter... let alone know who I am... and then again let alone would be as generous as they are to give me a gift like this all willy-nilly."
The owl, seemingly content with its work, preened one more feather and then fluttered its wings before taking to the skies and exiting with the rest of the owls so as to garner for itself a well-deserved rest. Figaro left it with one last loving bap before stretching deeply and then climbing up the arm of his master at his silently beckoning signal of extending that arm to the feline. With contentment, Figaro curled around Piérre's shoulders and laid down, staring Sonya in the eyes with deep minty green feline curiosity. "Which leads me to wonder how they know so much, and why."

The moment passed as quickly as it came and once more was he light-hearted, though a certain air of something akin to danger remained. But maybe that was just Astra, whose stance and demeanor radiated of a palpable tenseness by this point. She was careful to not let her grip tighten too much on the broom, but if you looked closely you could see a finger twitch.
He had an easy way about him, always had really, and Astra would be hard pressed to avoid returning even a hint of the secretive smile he sent her way. And indeed that's exactly what she did.
Then she was sucked into the picture. Indeed, the taller figure seemed to recoil as the smaller attacked, but Astra's suspicions remained constant: the elder was the danger. It was a man and boy, a predator and particularly feisty prey. The drawing was inky, and not terribly defined, but the smaller figure's curly hair was not so unlike Piérre's. And that worried her.
It was unknown to the young viper when exactly she came to care so, but he was a consistent presence in her life and for that she was grateful. She could not recall a time where he had not been kind to her, if not kind in his dealings then kind in intent. And since working in the Mafia, she supposed they had become friends. He certainly was hers.
"It is rather uncanny," Astra conceded to the boy's final points. Her grip on the broom had since lessened, listening to the boy's musings and entertaining a few of her own. "Considering all that's been said." And all that hasn't. "It has to have been someone outside the school, right? Any hunches as to your benefactor, o gifted one? Perhaps a particularly well-off Italian of Durmstrang has taken a liking to you." She was unaware of the potential ironies of the statement, having never made the connection between the bear of a man that was Romeo, only ever seen swooping in to rescue, and the wispy trickster friend that was Piérre.
