Had this been any of the duels from his beginning as a duelist, previously as his strategy failed in his duels he would throw caution to the wind, abandoning all strategy and instead choosing to attempt whatever spell he could cause most damage with before his opponent ended things for him.
The present version of himself was however a stark contrast in comparison to his younger naïve Y1 self, Him now maintained his composure. Even after the spell he had trusted to hit had missed it's mark, Prat already had a backup in his mind as he eyes went all over the place looking for the right spot to pull it off from.
Alek's rictusempra did a number on him, making him feel all ticklish was torturous at the beginning but after having gone through this enough time, Prat was no used to this weird feeling, even with this handicap on his brain he could form together enough coherent thoughts to see Alek's who was no longer on fire and seemed to have gotten her head back in the game.
For all her uninterested looks, Aleks made it clear she was no longer playing around and rather wholeheartedly ready to get this win over Prat. Prat on the other hand was too busy to think about winning, focusing solely on the next round and all the variables it might bring that he would need to counter in order to make it to the next one and live to see the next day.

Okay, maybe Alyssea spoke too soon because the quiet round of nothing happening just happened. Yeah... what a day. She'd been so positive this duel would be different than the rest. Though the 'second round' curse, as she dubbed it, wasn't exactly a curse for this one; the boring stuff happened in the fourth round of spells. So, maybe, this duel was a bit different than the rest.
There was no strategy behind the spells, just plain damage and fire. Though, Alyssea couldn't exactly fault them for their choices. They were at the half-way point for a duel to end, so it was time for the bigger and harder-hitting spells. The faster the duel got done, the better for everyone, of course. However, higher stakes also meant there would be better reflexes for dodging, since everyone wanted to survive to the end. Hence the boring round.
Prat was still hysterically laughing, though it seemed like he was getting better control over his reflexes. His aim was still terrible, though. Aleksandra was now recovering with no fire or spells her way. Alyssea assessed the damage from her spot on the piste. They were doing alright, still standing despite all the damage. Aleksandra looked slightly worse for wear, but otherwise, it seemed like a pretty equal matchup.

With this duel already reaching past halfway mark, prat understood he would win on time if that were to go to chances, however a win with time constraints would not suit his demeanor or style at all. Instead wanting to end it sooner now Prat started cooking up schemes to end Aleks faster than she could outmaneuver him, at least on paper if his strategy worked. On the other hand he had to calculate all the variables that might arise his way and thus ruin his chances. Aleks had held her ground so far, while she looked worse for the wear, she did not appear to be ready to end this duel yet.
Nor did she look anywhere close to passing out, his best bet was to give it all he had and end this. He was a busy kid afterall, recovery from all these little injuries will take time too along with the backlog of stuff he had garnered up now. Easing his grasp at his wand Prat decided to calm down and not overload his brain with all the worries that were yet to arrive. For why would a sane being worry about that which has yet to happen, similar to how there's no point worrying about something that has already happened and can no longer be changed. Present is all where he needed to be prepared for, what he needed to win.

Yet another normal round, though Alyssea had to applaud Prat for his risk-taking. Spongify, when gone wrong, wasn't actually the nicest spell to be under, and while you learned it at the end of First year, it was still one of the more difficult spells to master. Thankfully, in her entire duelling history, Alyssea has never been hit with a Spongify. She's probably cast it once and never again.
Unfortunately, while Prat's cast was beautiful, his aim was... decidedly not. If anything, Aleksandra was way quicker to dodge. The tickling charm had worn off now, though, so maybe he could make up for lost time.
Aleksandra was faring much better. While her knockback didn't look as hard-hitting as most other duellists Alyssea knew, it was enough to pretty much knock Prat off his game. The odds were tipping in her favour at this point. Alyssea hummed.
"Remember, if you feel like it, you can forfeit. Nobody's judging you," Alyssea said. She knew they wouldn't; why would anyone ever forfeit? Unless the odds were very clearly stacked against you, it was always better to keep fighting to the end. Still, a reminder never hurt anyone. "I didn't bring any healing potions, so if you do drop dead, all I've got is some weak healing spells."

Prat took a deep breath as he steadied himself. "Alright stay focused don't sleep" he thought to himself. This wasn't over yet. While he knew his Spongify spell was a risk—but so was trying to pull off a tricky maneuver in a race. The certainty of it paying off was never a surety. His mind a mess as it gave him flashbacks mid duel to Lightning McQueen from "Cars", symbolizing how he took a gamble on the dirt track, spinning out only to get back on track with due time.
Aleksandra had dodged beautifully this time too. He gave her credit for that in his mind. But he did not count himself out of the race yet. It was time for him to shift gears. Time to shift gears, Prat. Make up for lost time. The tickling charm had worn off, and he felt a new surge of determination.
Alyssea’s voice cut through his thoughts. "Remember, if you feel like it, you can forfeit. Nobody's judging you." Was her attempt of encouragement or pessimism, giving up was never an option. Lightning McQueen never gave up and neither would Prat.
The odds might be tipping in Alek's favor, but similar to all good races, it wasn’t over until it was over. He remembered Doc Hudson’s words: 'It's all about turning right to go left.' Sometimes, to succeed in life you’ve got to think differently in order to get ahead. He flashed a confident smile, probably hiding the pain he was now face to face with, channeling his inner Lightning McQueen. Ka-chow! "Time to put on a show."

Heavy breathing, that was what Aleksandra heard through her ears. Her breathing was heavy and alert. Her gray eyes examined Prat like a cat that was about to pounce on the girl at any moment. Her hand gripping the handle of her wand tightly, gray eyes flicking back and forth watching every twitch of muscle her opponent would do preparing herself to evade and react. This boy was smart, but a natural born duelist unlike Aleksandra she was born to do what? Well she has not gotten that far in life actually. One day her purpose will be known. Who knows maybe she’ll be somebody. Maybe dueling is her calling; she doubted that actually with how this was going so far.
Platinum blonde hair started to frame Aleksandra’s face as her ponytail seemed to loosen up from this dueling spectacle that she and Prat seemed to be a part of at the moment. The young girl figured afterwards she would gladly go back to the dorms and freshen up and read her textbooks or something other than these unnecessary shooting spells at each other.
The silence that drifted among the duo with wands out and raring for a fight seemed to burn Aleksandra’s ears. One could hear a galleon hit the floor with how the silence covered the club room like a blanket.
As the older girl that was moderating the two first years as they seemed to do this little charade of a duel. That was when her voice seemed to ring about Aleksandra side-eyed for a second while she continued to watch and observe Prat longer. If Aleksandra took her eyes off of her opponent even for a second it would give them the advantage of doing some serious damage that was for sure and the young Slytherin girl was not gonna allow that not even for a second.
Surrender? Did Aleksandra hear that right? Surrendering that sounded like bliss to the girl. But if she even dared surrender Prat would end up hunting her down to the ends of Scotland dare say he would try and find where she lived to have a proper rematch. So surrendering was out of the question for the young girl. She did not want to put herself in that situation. It was bad enough that this boy even bothered her and dared to be in her presence. A thorn in her side a whole of these children she thought bitterly no such thing as peace and quiet.
Aleksandra narrowed her eyes watching Prat, the young boy seemed to grow a smile. Rather odd if you asked her made him look mad. Though she supposed the boy was mad. He was rather odd too. Not only that he seemed to do rather boisterous things one would think he was showing off or maybe wanting attention maybe he was poorly raised? Or he was just that mad in the head. Would anyone sane smile during a moment like this?
Aleksandra thought carefully to herself, gray eyes narrowed as a storm brewed within them like a summer storm awaiting for the first drop of rain and flash of lightning. The storm within Aleksandra was awaiting to be released to unleash the lightning that was bottling up. This poor boy either win or lose Aleksandra knew one thing after this she was going to try and avoid all these troublesome Snakes all they did was cause her problems upon problems and she was sick of it.
This girl was ready. She was ready to finish this and return back to her background character life forget this side character nonsense the background was where everything was at after all no nonsense no distractions just a normal happy life a uneventful life.

Honestly, there wasn't much to say with these next set of spells. They were your average end-game duelling spells. Speaking of, Alyssea flicked her eyes towards whatever time indicator existed in the room and did some quick maths. They'd just gone over half-way and the duel should be ending in two more spell rounds. Fabulous. Yeah, these next two rounds would be really flashy.
A Knockback Jinx from Prat's end and a Fire-Making Spell from Aleksandra's made up the current round. Prat's luck just kept getting worse and worse as the spell that could've balanced out his odds fell right through the floor. For such a beautifully cast spell, it was a shame it missed. His aim hadn't been bad, per se, but a little more accurately and it might've hit it's mark. As for Aleksandra's spell, the fire didn't look that strong and didn't even leave any semblance of a flame behind on his clothes, but she had impeccable aim. Even if his clothes didn't catch fire, that was sure to do some mean damage.
Alyssea hummed from her corner of the piste. After this, she'd need to finish off some homework and maybe talk to her roommates about a couple of things. Nothing serious, just the usual roommate banter, probably.

Prat felt a surge of frustration as his Knockback Jinx missed its mark. This couldn't be happening yet again. So close, yet so far, he thought to himself, gritting his teeth. Aleksandra’s fire spell on the other hand had perfect aim, almost Impeccable, as he felt the sting of the minor burns. Even if the fire wasn’t strong, it still packed quite a punch.
He took a deep breath calming himself as he tired to shake off the irritation. Focus, Prat, he slapped himself a little, Bring him back to the present before he could wallow in self pity. One missed spell does not equate to the end of the world. His thoughts racing as he prepared for the next round. He knew he had to pull out something at the very least, spectacular to turn the tide in his favor. He decided it was time to go all in. He could not afford any more mistakes.
Strategies ran through his mind as he tried coming up with all the options he had and what the hypothetical best course of action would be. By the time he was feeling the weight of this duel bearing down on him. Strangely however, there was also the thrill of the challenge. This was his moment, he thought, his determination hardening his resolve, perhaps now running on flight or fight.
