A Relaxing Place, Indeed

After a bit more extensive exploring of Hogwarts, hoping to find a nice place to just hang out, Eonaria had come across a delightful courtyard. Other students hung out here, milling about and chatting happily. But even with the people surrounding her, this courtyard was still a nice place to be in general.
There was lots of interaction for social interaction, which she didn't have much of... and since Eonaria definitely was too shy to just go up to someone(yikes!), she decided to simply occupy her time here. She would most likely find herself in a conversation or some sort of incident just by being here, so hopefully she didn't have to initiate the conversation... or she could. Eonaria usually felt much braver in unexpected situations than planned ones.
Equipped with her most recent book from the library, she made her way to the empty fountain in the center of the open space. Doing her best to limit unnecessary contact with the grime covered cobblestones, she sat down on the low stone wall bordering the fountain. Eonaria leaned against one of the supporting pillars and took out her book, beginning to read. The book was titled "Bewitched Baking." Not that she'd be doing any baking at Hogwarts, since the meals were prepared wonderfully by house elves, and she didn't even know where the entrance was to the kitchen, anyhow. But it was still an interesting read. And maybe she could try making snacks for herself at home over the holidays and summer break.
Eonaria began to thoughtfully peruse the pages, surrounded by the somewhat soothing background noise of students and the wind. Although most books were quite interesting to her, she still didn't want to seem too busy...

Belle had gone to the courtyard a lot recently due to her lack of friends so far. Sure, she’d met people, but she wouldn’t say anyone here was really a friend yet. Belle knew the courtyard was going to be full of students today, and it was. Sometimes during the weekdays it wasn’t as crowded, but it seemed like everyone was here.
As Belle looked for a place to sit down, since all the benches were already taken by other students, she spotted a girl with Gryffindor robes sitting by the edge of the fountain. Belle had seen this girl around, but had never really talked to her before. Now seemed like a better time than ever, considering where the girl was sitting was the only place left to really sit.
Belle was a little nervous to talk to her. There was always the chance this girl was waiting for someone and saving them a seat, or just wanted to be alone. That was a risk Belle would have to take. She sat down beside the girl and cleared her throat.
“Hi. Do you mind if I sit here?”
The girl was reading a book, it looked like it was about baking. Personally, Belle had never been great with that kind of stuff, but it sure would be interesting to read what cooking was like from a wizards perspective.

Eonaria was reading a recipe page for matcha cupcakes called 'Serpent's Breath,' and she was contemplating making a batch once she went home for Christmas. Who wouldn't want a nice cupcake over the holidays? She could even send some to her friends. Absorbed in her thoughts, she flipped the page and didn't notice when another Gryffindor first year came over and sat down, clearing her throat. "Hi. Do you mind if I sit here?" The girl had long, brown hair and blue eyes. An interesting combination.
Eonaria looked up in surprise, folding a corner of the page she was on("Dark Prophecy" brownies, yum) and closing the book(she wasn't a fan of putting creases on papers, but she had unfortunately forgot a bookmark and was not about to put the book page-open facing down on the dirty stones). "Oh, yeah, sure!" Eonaria shifted over slightly to make room, smiling. "Are you looking for a conversation(cause that's what I'm doing, haha), or just finding a good place to sit? Hogwarts is fascinating, but sometimes you gotta just sit, wind down, and have a nice chat with someone." Eonaria paused before adding, "I'm Eonaria, by the way. What's your name? How's Hogwarts so far?"

Belle smiled as she sat down. “Belle. Nice to meet you.”
She felt a little guilty she hadn’t introduced herself before, but now was as good a time as any. After all, they were both Gryffindor first years, so they were going to be in the same classes.
“Hogwarts is really cool, but it’s a little confusing. I’m a Muggle-born, so a giant magic castle is overwhelming at first.”
Belle pulled her sweater tighter around her. Its getting colder out. I’ll have to bring my jacket with me when I go outside now.
“So, I have a question. Since I’m new to this magic stuff and everything. Is it rude to ask someone if they’re a Muggle born? I just feel like I’m overstepping a boundary, Y’know?”
Belle honestly wanted to know. From everyone she’s met so far, and the brief conversations she’d had with them, they didn’t know. So here she was, trying her luck again.
“But aside from that, how have your classes been? Mine are interesting to say the least. I’ve been in Muggle school my whole life, learning about science and math. These classes are way more…fascinating. Who knew I would study the history of magic one day?”
Shoot, I’m rambling again. Leave it to me to talk too much. I hope she doesn’t mind.

The other girl sat down, introducing herself as Belle. "Hogwarts is really cool, but it's a little confusing. I'm a Muggle-born, so a giant magic castle is overwhelming at first."
Oh. She's a Muggle-born. Eonaria smiled back. "Yeah, Hogwarts can be really intimidating with all the little hidden details. And those moving staircases- I'm a pureblood, so I'm not too surprised by most magic, but phew are those things all over the place. I was trying to get to class one time and one of the staircases just left me behind!" She chuckled. Eonaria noticed Belle tugging her sweater tighter around herself. She was probably cold. The weather was getting a bit chillier. Eonaria wouldn't be surprised if it started snowing in a month or two.
Then Belle asked her a question: "Since I'm new to this magic stuff and everything, is it rude to ask someone if they're a Muggle-born? I just feel like I'm overstepping a boundary, y'know." Eonaria paused to think about this. "Well, I usually don't ask people their blood status within like the first few minutes of the conversation since that's a weird way to start, but you could probably nudge the conversation in a way that would naturally lead to it. Like, the first person's like 'oh hey, there, I'm blah blah blah,' and the other person's like 'yeah hi I'm this and that,' and then after a while you could say like, uh, 'so, what kind of music do you listen to? I like ___ because I'm muggle-born,' or because I'm something-or-other, I guess..?" Eonaria paused. Her explanation was honestly getting weirder by the moment, but she went with it. "And then hopefully the other person offers up their own blood status or something. I dunno. Sorry, that was probably really weird." She brushed her hair away from her face.
Belle then asked her about her classes, comparing the subjects at Hogwarts with the ones at her Muggle school. "Yeah, class has definitely been fun, though I haven't gotten any homework yet. Guess they're trying to ease us firsties in." Eonaria chuckled. "I've mostly been reading random things. Like this delightful baking book. For some reason. Uh, anyways, yeah, history of magic..." she grimaced. "I was never really one for history, but science is actually very interesting. Muggle science and magical science. Wait, do I even know anything that counts as magical science? Maybe the basic concepts of transfiguration? I dunno." Yikes, I think this conversation is getting worse the more that I talk. Uhhh- Eonaria shifted awkwardly, adjusting her hair again for no reason. "Anywho. What would you say you're most looking forward to learning about?"
