If Lea was going to try and make her win rate greater than the 1/3 it seemed to be stuck at now, she would need new spells- greater than those originally taught in her classes. Now, the Hufflepuff had done this in the past with charms but each year it seemed to get a little tougher, the leap between years greater as more tests and heavier lessons seemed to pile on top of her. She had to study for OWLs now on top of all the captain requirements- perhaps Lea was overly optimistic but she trusted that she could even learn sixth year spells without getting burnt out.

The important step, though, was perfecting the spell ahead of the homework curve that would soon to arrive. As soon as the year had started, Lea would crack open some books from the Sixth Year section, making notes about which spells seemed viable on the piste before she found her new focus- The Trip Jinx. She was certain she had seen it used before, but breaking someone's concentration and keeping them stuck in one place while another shot a spell in their direction would do well. So it was off to the Duelling Room with her new book, wondering how it might look to have one of the dummies 'trip'.

Getting a spell in one try was, as Lea knew, nearly impossible. But it did help to have some practice beforehand- namely repeating the incantation to herself and practicing the wand movement with her finger, wand safely tucked away in her pocket. The movement wasn't that many steps but it felt easy to get wrong as the design resembled a loose L that continued to drag on. "Offendo," she'd repeat under her breath, checking the incantation every so often to make sure her practice hadn't strayed away. Finally, once both of those felt comfortable would the Fifth Year bring out her wand with a small flourish as she searched the space for a nearby training dummy. Target acquired, she brought her hand down before curving upwards for but a moment before trailing left and upwards slightly. "Offendo!" She called out, yet no purple sparks or tripped dummy would greet her. The movement was tricky with how flowy it was, so she tucked the chestnut wood away once more to go over the pattern a few more times.

Finally would Lea return to wand practice. Many attempts started with sparks but no effect, the dummy taunting her from across the room. Finally would the lowercase cursive l work as a wand movement, voice clearly and picture sure in her mind as she called out, "Offendo!" The spell shot forth, aiming properly at the target to tumble the dummy off balance and landing 'face' first into the ground. She grinned, but brought her aim over to another target. One success meant it was possible, but it would be the training and multiple successes that would prove Lea had understood and learned the spell.

Zach's healing magic research continued again, especially in the third year, since many of the healing magic could be learned that year. And no place as perfect as the Library to get any information. So Zach took his satchel and went to the Library with an excitement that could be seen in his steps. He hummed on his way like always.

He looked at many parts of the Library, looking for any book that might have something interesting. A book caught his eyes, the Charms book for the fourth year. It was like his annual activity to learn upper year spells. Smile bloomed on his face as he found the book. He opened it and read it page by page. The spell he found the most interesting was the Minor Healing Charm, Episkey. The boy read each information eagerly. And he found this spell more interesting. The other spell he had learned was Reparifors from Transfiguration class that heal magical injuries, poisoning and paralysis. On the other hand, Episkey can be used in more physical injuries like broken toes, split lips and a busted nose. The boy kept reading in his mind, absorbing all the information he could absorb.

His lips muttering the pronunciation in silence. eh-PIS-kee. eh-PIS-kee. And then his hand, without his wand, making a diagonal movement from left to right, again and again. The boy kept practising in silence until his hand was too tired to hold the book. He thought it was enough learning for that day. But his curiosity couldn’t hold him. He unconsciously skimmed the next spell before his hand aching so much from the tension and the weight.

Some days after his self-learning on Episkey, he was having divination class with his friends: Alyssea and Raizel. They learned about Tessomancy that day. Zach, of course, was excited with the lesson. But something went wrong in the class. Zach panicked and accidentally hurt Raizel. The Lioness glared at Zach, gave him the “what’s wrong with you” look. While Alyssea, still on her seat, frozen in a gasp. Zach realised the chaos he had made and stopped the madness. The boy apologised to her and tried to fix it.

“I’m so sorry…” he said. He looked at the bruise he had made on Raizel’s cheek. “I– Let me fix this,” he said. Raizel, of course, with some hesitation but let the boy did the spell. “Episkey.” He made diagonal motion from left to right with his wand above Raizel’s bruise spot. There was no light came up from the wand. The bruise also slowly vanished. “Do you still feel the pain?” he asked, making sure that the spell works. Fortunately, the spell works. Professor Sereia rushed towards Raizel to check her.

Even after he saw the effect of the spell, Zach still felt sorry for the accident he had made. He hurted his friend and made a ruckus in the class. What a great day…

At the same day he learned about Episkey, he still held the book to read another spell. Why? Because it was one of the healing spells. Blockage Clearing Spell or Anapneo. Zach found that interesting and important because he heard some cases from his mother that some animals couldn’t be saved because of the late response to the airway clearing. So he was eager to read the whole chapter about the spell even though his hand started aching from the constant position and the weight from the book. He stopped once his hand felt the pain worst and immediately closed the book and turned it back to the shelf.

He went back to his dorm with a contented feeling. He repeated the pronunciation on his way and moved his hand, there’s a person in front of him and made an imaginary wand movement with his hand. “ah-NAP-NEE-oh!” he repeated it, pointing at any direction on his way.

Zach was also one of the healer interns of the Hospital Wing under Nurse Dusana Sabo supervision. There was one day he was in the Hospital Wing, with Nurse Sabo. Since he was very new, he followed Nurse Sabo and learned many things from her. When all of the jobs finished, the boy kept following Nurse Sabo and asked about Anapneo.

Nurse Sabo fixed many things from him. From his pronunciation that it should be “ah-NAP-nee-oh,” to the accuracy of the wand movement. Nurse Sabo told him important things like Zach should have some imagination what kind of things that obstruct the airway and where the obstruction is probably at. Zach took note of Nurse Sabo teaching. Zach was very excited since he could know the things from the expert, unlike his other self-teached spells, even though he would learn it eventually when he graduated. But learning what you are passionate about early somewhat gave you satisfaction. At least, that was what Zach felt when learning most of his charms. He repeated the spell and the wand movement while waiting for the next job.

In the same day, a case of airway obstruction also happened. A student had choked on bread. His friends had also done Heimlich manoeuvres at him but nothing happened. The boy was still choked. So he was sent to the Hospital Wing by his friends. Nurse Sabo immediately went to check on the boy, and so Zach. Nurse Sabo gave a look at Zach for him to try the spell. She pointed out the neck of the boy, giving Zach the target clue of the spell. Zach pointed out his wand at the boy. Even though he was a little bit trembling since it was his first time to do some intervention in the Hospital Wing, he tried to cast the spell as clear as possible. “Anapneo,” Zach cast. The boy coughed and finally could breath freely.

Zach would always remember that day. He was very thankful to Nurse Sabo for letting him learn and feel the first hospital wing experience.

Only September 2nd, and things were already going horribly awry. Astra rolled her eyes at the apologies spilling out of the first-year's mouth as she used the hem of her shirt to try to stem the bleeding from the brand new giant gash on her arm.

"I can go with you to the hospital wing!" the wide-eyed perpetrator exclaimed, looking as if she were about to burst into tears.

"No thank you, I'm perfectly alright," Astra grunted, pulling her wand out of its designated pocket. She really shouldn't be so antagonistic to the kid, wasn't it just last year everyone's favorite Slytherin was in her shoes? But really, who let this kid run around with scissors? Adult scissors, not the little kiddy ones that barely cut through paper. Scissors that poked holes in people.

"Are you sure, it's bleeding a lot and-"

"I said I'm fine. I will take care of it myself." Astra's pointed look perhaps caused the first-year to rethink her continued pestering.

Letting the now scarlet hem of her t-shirt fall back, she could assess the damage properly. Not a giant gash, not even a hole, simply a sizeable slice deeper than the average accidental cut. The kid had been moving fast. Bleeding was still an issue, and it really did need to be bound for the long walk it would be to the hospital wing.

What's that spell again...? A moment of concentrated silence.

"Don't you-"

"Shut it." The younger dutifully piped down. It was in the healing section, of course, the Bandaging Charm? Astra tapped her wand against her leg impatiently. The action seemed to stir a memory, the incantation she was searching for becoming ever clearer in her mind's eye, as if a camera was being put into focus. Her eyelids fluttered closed, and she heard the younger girl gasp loudly. For Merlin's sake. Did the child think Astra was going to die from a scissors cut? "I'm not that fragile," she muttered, cracking an eye open to glance down disapprovingly.

Fragile... Fergile... Ferool- Ferula! Latin! Yes, the bandaging spell would be Latin of course, for what good was a bandage to a fractured limb without a splint, a "rod?" In Latin, a ferula. Astra tapped her want to her wound, speaking "fer-ROOL-ah" clearly. Pristine white bandages manifested themselves and wrapped neatly around her arm, effectively stemming the bleeding and providing adequate pressure.

The young first-year's eyes widened impossibly larger. "Woah," she breathed. "Can I do that too?"

"Someday. Don't run with scissors, kid." Again flustered, the younger girl promised to never commit such heinous crimes again. Astra sighed and began the multi-story trek to the hospital wing.

If there was one thing Astra had encountered in the Forbidden Forest to capture her dislike, it was Hinkypunks. Never had she met a Hinkypunk that wasn't, well, a little punk. Last year, they were few and far between, but when they did show their wispy little faces as she attempted leisurely strolls through the only truly quiet part of campus (even if eerily so), it was with malice and carnage in mind. She knew such strolls were illegal, out of bounds, rule-breaking, and she didn't need the creatures trying to lure her even further into danger. Last year, she'd had trips of respite. This year, they were bothering her every single time.

Somehow, in the act of becoming scarier to the general population, she had become ever more attractive to Hinkypunks. Even now as she attempted to find an alcove amongst moss covered boulders the green smoke stick moseyed on up on its one little leg swinging its lantern all about her face.

"Oh my GOD, get AWAY from me," she couldn't help but snap towards the Hinkypunk as it suggestively wiggled up to her, then back towards a marshy spot. Recent rainstorms had not helped this persistent pestering. She was perched on a particularly flat boulder, working on homework that would be easy to knock out, a.k.a. Charms spells she had already learned and had to do the busywork for, with her Charms book balanced on her knees.

Hinkypunks were not the most common of magical creatures, so why did she know of them? Why did she know what they were called, and why did she know what they were trying to do? A sudden confusion caused her to rifle through the book, losing her current spot (but not really, since she essentially had it committed to memory) to search for any mention of Hinkypunks.

Astra came to the pages detailing Lumos Duo, the Duo variation of the Wand-Lighting Charm, not unlike Incendio Duo which she had seen on the syllabus for Herbology. And there it was: the dreadful, horrible Hinkypunk.

It was right in front of her. Perfect line up to turn it to stone like the troll it was. Astra slid her wand parallel to the ground and pointed it, aggressively swiftly and with a startling sense of urgency as she spoke "LOO-mos DOO-oh" with an equally aggressive, swift, and urgent tone. A beam of light so intense it felt like one of those moments in the movies when the main character opens the treasure chest and it blinds her for a moment with its glorious gold. The Hinkypunk solidified, looking like a particularly unappealing stick of rock candy. Astra's concentration snapped with an audible gasp as the light suddenly extinguished in midair.

"That was so much cooler than I thought it would be."

Astra Norrick was not going to get up again. She was well and truly situated, thank you kindly, and there was absolutely no reason in any universe that she should have to get up because Hermes of all people lost his toy underneath the trunk at the foot of her bed. His pitiful mewling would not allow her to concentrate on the essay she was due to turn in in roughly... She checked her wristwatch. Oh, yeah, an hour, for like three pages of history she maybe kind of sort of knew some of the details on.

"Shhhhh," she groaned as he took a drastic measure, climbing up her legs to sit on her lap and putting his paw in front of her quill. "Not now!" An entirely too sorrowful look was in his green and golden eyes as he contorted himself in what looked like the most uncomfortable position he could ever choose to look her in the eyes. "Hermes."

He meowed as if to say Are you getting my toy now?

"Get off."

He was indignant now, meowing louder. Love me! Get my toy!

Astra scooped him up and placed him on the ground until he hooked his claws into her loose sweater. Cat, when I get through with you- Hermes, with his notoriously poor sense of self-preservation, mewled pitiously as his he saw his nefarious scheme come to life. The helpless act wouldn't fly, he knew, and so now he had to switch tactics. Astra knew his schemes. She narrowed her cerulean eyes at him.

She tried prying his little scythes from her sweater one at a time, but they were sticky in the loosely knit stitches. He was to heavy to just sit up again safely without ripping the comfy clothes. Sure, she had reparo, but that wouldn't stop him from bothering her.

It seemed getting the toy was the only option.

Hermes' pleading meows and purrs and whines bounced around her ears as she tried to remember the wand movement for the summoning charm. The incantation was easy, everyone and their mother knew "accio." All Astra had to do was perfect the wand movement.

"Accio!" Swish swish. No dice. "Accio!" Hermes yowled louder. "Shush! I'm trying to get it for you!"

She inhaled deeply, staring at the trunk, twisted all sorts of awkwardly in her desk chair, envisioning that stupid little toy with its stupid little feather and moved her wand in a steady, smooth, and shallow downward parabola, saying "AH-kee-oh" in the calmest, clearest tone she could.

Nyoooom- THWACK. Right between the eyes before falling unceremoniously to the floor. Hermes, rather disinterested in her now, couldn't get his claws untangled, and started yowling for an entirely different reason as Astra rubbed the pained landing site of the asinine toy. "Oh come on."

As one would know, this Gryffindor here isn't the type of person who would take her time to learn any healing spells. She is set on getting those that were built for dishing out damage. That hasn't changed one bit even after leaving the duelling team. To be stronger and get better and the only way to show people that is to use flashy and destructive spells, let them feel the power of her magical capabilities. That's her goal.

Then why is she trying to learn Episkey?

Well, she has a side goal, see and that's trying not to be a bother to others, especially whenever she gets hurt. During her first and second year in Hogwarts, Raizel had been one of those people who took too many visits to the hospital wing and she can't help but feel like a bother to them whenever she gets hurt due to her recklessness. That's when she decided to at least get some healing spells that she could use on herself to save them the trouble of healing her. She has the bandaging charm already but that's not enough.

That's when she remembered Dealla Prince's spell when the two of them had this practice session. She took note of that spell of course but proved to be too advance for her during that time so she had set it aside for now. Now though, now that she had gained a couple more experience when it comes to spellcasting, she felt like she was ready for it and perfect timing as she just hurt herself after falling off of her broom after doing some practice, receiving a bruise on the arm. Better than practicing on other people. At least if she fails, it'll be her that'll suffer, not them.

Here she is, sitting down with a wand in hand, her broom lying there beside her as she looks over her trusty charms spell notebook where that spell was noted. “Episkey (eh-PIS-kee)…” that's not a complicated incantation right there and it has simple wand gestures too. Diagonal line from the left then to the right. Raizel pointed her wand to where her bruise is, feeling a bit anxious but she quickly shook it off. “No, have confidence.” Failure after failures has affected her more than one would think but she just has to strengthen her will and believe in herself… right?

“Episkey!”

Nothing, the pain was still there, making Raizel click her tongue out of annoyance for not getting it the first time. Failing doesn't usually bother her. All she had to do was try again but now it does, seeing it as her being not good enough for it, being too magically weak. It frustrates her. She could've gotten it the first try considering how easy it looks but she didn't. She has to do better than. She tried again, and again but still nothing.

Raizel paused for a bit, sitting there on the ground and closing her eyes. “That's pathetic…” she uttered with annoyance before looking down, staring at her wand with a frown on her face. Maybe a short break could help, get a breather. So that’s what she did. Raizel stood up, stretched her arms and leg while also ignoring the slight pain from that bruise on her arm. Breathe in, breathe out. It’s probably her own frustration and impatience that’s keeping her from performing this spell. How could she forget one of the first lessons she learned in class, of having focus and having no distractions.

“This time…” she uttered, sitting back down, pointing her wand on her arm. She made the diagonal gesture, starting from the left and then going to the right before following it up with the incantation. “Episkey!” Slowly, the pain faded away, even making sure by giving her arm a slight touch. She felt nothing, not even the slightest pain. That was a relief, it made her smile. That’s one more healing spell in her arsenal if she manages to master it.

Charm: General Counter-Spell
Incantation: Finite Incantatem

Wand Movement: outlined like a shield – curved top, angled sides, flat base

The library still held the last warmth of late afternoon sun. Most students had cleared out of the room, but Perrin had lingered. He was sat alone, with his homework already finished and rolled to one side, and a book he had picked up from a nearby shelf was open to a page he wasn’t supposed to need yet: the General Counter-Spell.
He was tracing the wand movement against the page with his finger: a shield-like outline. Smooth arc, down left, down right, flat base – he reflected on how there was something elegant about the symmetry. Then he whispered the incantation to himself, again and again, making careful attention to place the right accentuations where needed. "Fi-Nee-tay in-can-TAaH-tem…" he muttered, before slightly clearing his throat. "Fi-NEE-tay in-can-TAH-tem… fi-NEE-tay in-can-TAH-tem."
He closed the book, pushed it with the rest of his belongings, and took his wand in hand. He carefully, but quickly, moved his wand in the shield-like pattern, pronouncing the incantation as he had practiced. A thin red shimmer pulsed at the end of his wand, and the light vanished. Perrin let out a soundless exhale, the corner of his mouth slightly twitching with satisfaction – but he needed to properly test it.
He picked up the book, returned it to its shelf, and grabbed his homework before leaving the library. As he walked – across the corridors, up the grand staircase, then another flight until he reached Ravenclaw Tower – his mind stayed fixated on testing the spell again as soon as possible.
He sat in a chair, not far from some students playing chess, and waited until an older Ravenclaw passed by and sat down alone, probably waiting for her friends. Perrin stood up and approached, asking politely if she could use the Levitation Charm on one of his books so he could try a spell he had just read about. The girl gave a quick and warm approval, and the book Perrin had placed on the floor began to rise.
He nodded once and raised his own wand – but now the air felt different. Someone else waiting, watching, made Perrin’s chest feel oddly tight. He hesitated. He managed to pronounce the incantation correctly, but his wand dipped too much – the book remained in the air. His jaw tensed. He bit gently on the inside of his lower lip – a tiny pressure he barely registered anymore."You are allowed to fail when training. But not now. Not when you tried something meant for older students. It would be too shameful," Perrin told himself. He inhaled quickly, steadied his hand, and began the motion with more precision. Then he pronounced: "Fi-NEE-tay in-can-TAH-tem!" A sharp but thin streak of red emerged from his wand, and the book fell to the ground with a small bammm. He thanked the girl, who gave him a warm nod, and made his way quietly to the dormitory.

Wand Movement: flowing "M" shape

The library was quieter than usual, and Perrin appreciated that. The light outside was starting to shift – late afternoon again, though the weather was clearer than the day before. He had finished the required reading for Herbology and was now flipping through a Charms book dedicated to older students. As he finished reading a page, instead of moving to the next one, he wrote some notes on a parchment, closed the book, and got ready to leave the library.
He had found a great interest in the Slowing Charm, which he had just learned was invented by Daisy Pennifold, and was slightly hurrying through the long corridor leading to the courtyard. The sky above was clear, and students were scattered about. Perrin spotted a calmer place at the other end of the courtyard, and there he placed all his belongings against the wall, except for his wand and Newt Scamander’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
He took out the parchment he had scribbled on right before leaving the library, read the incantation three times, and focused on the drawn wand movement. After a few moments, he put the paper back in his pocket, readied his wand, and threw Scamander’s textbook several feet above him. He focused on the object, made a flowing "M" shape with his wand, and articulated: "Ah-REI-stoh mo-MEN-tum." The book thudded flat on the stones, its pages fanned awkwardly.
Perrin picked it up and nodded disapprovingly to himself, having noticed the mistake even as he was speaking. He had said "a-réésto," with a rounded vowel that sounded too French, not focusing enough on the almost wind-like sound in "REST." Perrin’s lips pressed into a tight line as he retrieved the book, quickly brushed it off, and launched it again.
He repeated the "M" movement, and with a calmer voice this time, pronounced: "Ah-REST-oh mo-MEN-tum." The wand gave off a faint blue shimmer, and the falling book slowed. It hovered mid-fall for a moment, just a few centimetres from the ground, then dropped softly with barely a sound.
The young Ravenclaw stepped closer and barely noticed that a bit of dirt and dust clung to the spine of the book – too pleased with how clean the stop had felt, and the sudden short descent that followed had looked, with such almost scientific rigour and style. He picked up his school effects and decided to go back to the library. Although he was not openly grinning, one could see that his posture was a bit more confident and settled than usual.

The library was still – not empty, but quiet in a way that helped the mind settle, with mostly the sound of turning pages, quills on parchment, and some faint occasional chatter. Perrin had finished his assignment during the lunch break and had decided to pick up once again a Charms book from the designated area in the library.
He had been flipping through it quickly, only reading through each page, until he found the one he was looking for. He had heard a few second-years talk about Revelio last night in the common room, and the idea behind this spell had clung to Perrin: a charm meant to undo enchantments and bring out hidden truths – words concealed by spells, objects glamoured or obscured. He found this spell so intriguing, so full of potential*, but requiring no magical strength, only control and wits.
As was his habit when learning a spell, he read the page three times entirely, then once more focusing on the formulation of the incantation to be certain he hadn’t missed anything, and finally he looked for almost a full minute at the visual for the wand motion. It required a stroke upward, partial loop, then sharp diagonal – almost like writing an uppercase "R" without making contact with the previous stroke.
He turned to the side, politely interrupting an older student reading at the opposite end of his table. In a low voice, he asked if they’d be willing to cast the Illegibility Charm on a few of his draft-written pages. The student looked faintly amused but agreed, waving their wand over the parchment before going back to his studies. The letters warped and faded until the page looked like a tangle of ink, unreadable.
Perrin thanked the student, placed the paper neatly in front of him, adjusted it to be correctly parallel to his books on his right, and took one long breath. Focus wasn’t something he needed to force – it now came naturally. He uttered "reh-VEL-ee-oh…" and made a clean "R" with his wand in the direction of the paper, from which a faint yellow shimmer bloomed. The light passed across the page, and then the letters returned to their correct disposition.
Perrin made a quick stroke with his left hand, closed in a bump, pleased, as he had not expected it to work – especially not on his first try. He continued to gaze at the paper, lost in his thoughts, thinking about all he could learn… spells cast to hide books, pranks covered by enchantments, notes left behind in old desks. He thought of so many ways this spell could be useful. Pleased with himself, he discreetly grabbed a liquorice wand from his satchel, before using the spell again on the remaining pages.
