Thérèse Isabèlle Allard moves from Lyon, France to a small town in northern Canada, when her father gets a job offer there, he accepts it, because the two are struggling because of her mother and brother’s death, which happened just ten minutes away from their home. Rèse, as she’s always called, later finds out that’s not exactly why they moved there. But, she has bigger problems, only a few days after her arrival, a murder takes place at exactly midnight, and she is determined to find out who is the one responsible for the murder, with her cat.
Little does she know, she herself is connected to the murder, and the son of the chief of police is someone she thought she’d never see again.
And to make things worse, her nearly deceased mother and brother start appearing in her dreams, exactly the same time as the murder happens. She’s been trying to forget about it all, but the truth is she can’t. The moment her mother and older brother were in that car crash, she felt something happen. She somehow knew her mother and brother were dead.
As she unveils the mystery of the midnight murder, all the clues lead to something rather unexpected. She founds out so much about her own family and past, and how it’s all connected. Her father didn’t move here because of a job offer, because of something much much worse, yet she can’t seem to find out what exactly he did for them to move countries, not only countries but continents. And when she finds out, that’s a true plot twist.
