- Crossing the Threshold: the ~point of no return~
Initiation
- Test, Allies, and Enemies: challenge, new abilities and knowledge put to the test and gaining allies(?)
- Approach to the Inmost Cave: Almost to the final boss
- The Ordeal: What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger?
- The Reward: hero gets what they’ve been looking for, possibly instrumental in defeating villain
Return
- The Road Back: About to go home- but must defeat villain
- Resurrection: Climax- hero vs villain
- Return With the Elixir: The hero is stronger, (hopefully) wrap up character arc

Task One
Task 1: Generating an idea
What is your general idea/concept for your story? What is it about? This task is looking for you to write a synopsis or create some sort of plan for your story. It can be difficult to get over the first hurdle of simply starting, so it can help to even just start by writing out the ideas you have and forming them into a coherent storyline. Some examples of writing structures include Freytag's Pyramid and The Hero's Journey, which can be useful for helping to plan your story, but you don't have to follow if you have your own ideas. This task has a word count minimum of 200, and for completing it, you can earn 1 house point.
Eliora grew up isolated. Living in a small, isolated community, it was rare that they received news from the world. She assisted her family with the farm for the most part, only seeing others at the market or in passing. The difference between her world and ours? The social structure was based on names. The longer your name, the more power you held. Eliora was firmly in the lower middle class because of this, her parents having only been authorized to give their second child 6 letters rather than the 7 they could give their first. The council of ministers was in charge of everything. Full of people with 20 letter names, they had records of everyone’s birth, death, and the social status they held once out of the womb. They authorized the power exchanges. Her parents had only been farmers for their lifetime, so given that both had 6 letter names, it was impressive that they were granted the opportunity to name Lorelei with 7.
Eliora and Lorelei were always close- despite their 3 year age gap and the constant squabbles that became of the two, never once did Lorelei’s extra letter become a point of contention between the sisters. Once Lorelei came of age, she left their farm for the capital, full of new faces, names, and even more complex social dynamics. Last Eliora heard, Lorelei was doing well. She had made a name for herself because of how quickly she picked up the sword, and had quickly been promoted to an elite guardswoman position. Her job? To defend council with her life.
So why did their family get a letter from the council that her sister was on the run for treason? Why did the letter state that Lorelei was now considered a top notch criminal, and no longer deserved a name? And why were they being told that any indication that they were involved would lead to their immediate death?
Eliora has to find out. So what does she do? When she becomes of age, she too travels to the capital, but not with the dream to be a guardswoman, like her sister. No, her dream is to simply make it by without getting noticed, and get to the bottom of her sister’s disappearance. Entering the capital by way of a diplomatic apprentice, Eliora needs to not only navigate the complex social structures of negotiation, but also of the capital in order to find out what happened in relation to her beloved sister.
