The first year he wrote on the train, Ernest had immediately been bombarded by other boys in his year. He did not really get to pick a quiet compartment because being the first one there, he knew that he would have to let someone else in. This year, though, he tried to wait a little longer before getting on, hoping that if you found an empty apartment, most of the other ones would get filled up and he could be spared interaction. He was less inclined to conversation this year, just wanting to get to the school so he could see his friends and Elisa.

He had missed her over the summer, as even if they did want to see each other she would have to have told her pure-blood family she wanted to go and see someone that wasn't even human. So Ernest just tried to get by, mostly staying clear of his adopted family and trying to convince his grandfather to let him stay over more than just a couple of days here and there. Ernest wanted to be back at the school more than anything else at this point.

He packed a light, considering that this time he had his adopted father to shrink his items for him. He still had his notebook with him, but instead of sketching out the latest sword he thought would be fun to create, I was just mindlessly doodling as he thought about the next year.

At the moment, his train compartment was quiet and he was relatively peaceful as he thought about the things that he had missed about his second home, about the people he had missed. But like all good things, that didn't last.

It seemed that it was time to do it again. Magical Hogwarts, some people's home away from home, it was time for Ophelia to visit the school again. She'd spent most of her summer at the summer camp in London, barely getting to see the faces of her beloved family, and now, here she was, leaving the house again. Sometimes, she wondered if she'd made a mistake going to camp, when she could've gotten ice cream with her brother, read with her mother, and had adventures with her father. She could've even met up with her old Muggle friends, if they didn't all think she was weird by now... Oh well, there was no going back at this point.

Summer camp- and summer break itself- was over. In fact, Ophelia was well on her way to starting her second year at Hogwarts. She tugged on her trunk, which was full to the brim with a variety of clothing, accessories, magical equipment, and, her favourite of the luggage- books! The Hogwarts library was good for finding textbooks and things to help you research for class, but to find Muggle stories, Ophelia preferred the local Dublin bookstore. The only part the Ravenclaw regretted of her choice was how heavy her trunk was.

Kissing her papa, who'd come from Ireland this time to drop her off instead of her mum, Ophelia said her goodbyes. In turn, her father gave her his well wishes. After a long hug, the Ravenclaw girl separated from him and dragged her trunk, with much difficulty, onboard the Hogwarts Express. She remembered how she'd met some new people last year through this train ride, and she wondered if the same would happen this year.

Ophelia entered into a compartment at random this time, mostly focused on the trunk that she was forced to drag with her and the pet carrier on top which housed the sleeping form of Dove. Only once she was completely inside the compartment did the Ravenclaw girl realise that the place wasn't empty, and that she'd have to share the space that she'd unintentionally barged into with a boy who was... seemingly around her age.

Though the boy looked like he'd rather not be disturbed, Ophelia took a deep breath in and decided to approach. This was going to be her second year at Hogwarts... she could be better than her blubbering, scared-to-speak first year self.

Ophelia pulled the pet carrier and the trunk completely inside the compartment before facing the boy who was probably staring at her at this point. "Uhm, would you mind if I sat here for the ride?" She hated how quiet and shy her voice was. "And you aren't afraid of cats, are you?"

Marco had gotten restless on the train.

He had previously been sitting, very comfortably, but Marco could not stand not walking anymore. This would likely not be the last time he did this, he didn't like the feeling of pins and needles in his legs from sitting. On his second break down, Marco moved his way down the compartment but saw that the area back towards where he was sitting was awkwardly blocked by someone offering snacks. Very slowly. Now he just felt awkward. It hadn't even been that long. He just didn't like sitting for very long.

The goodbyes with his family weren't incredibly emotional. Marco felt uncomfortable with goodbyes like that, as they felt permanent. Marco had just been going on a trip. Just an academic trip, for many months! Being away from his family was weird, for sure. He hadn't really processed any of the emotions behind that yet. It felt like bad timing to be emotional about it immediately. He had things to do! People to see and meet! Things to learn! Mostly things to learn. He was less enthusiastic about the people. Marco was just a bit shy, and meeting so many new people at once was a bit intimidating.

He looked around for a moment, seeing that most of the booths within the trains were full. If there was any moment to try and make a friend, now was the time. Starting to peer within the first train booth he had been near, it appeared to be the one that had these two, hopefully friendly strangers! The boy looked at the older students, silent for a few moments before he finally cleared his throat a bit awkwardly. "Can I sit here...? At least for a second. I have a seat I just- I don't want to stand in the middle of the hallway." He paused, choosing his next words carefully. "You're also the first kids I've talked to on the train so far."

Marco was not as good at talking to people as his family. It didn't come to him as naturally. So when it came to making new friends, instead of bonding with the people he had known at his muggle schools, he was a bit awkward. But it usually just came off like he was disinterested unless he just kept talking. And then he was just annoying. It was an endless cycle of agony in the twisted practice of socialization. Horrifying! But honestly, Marco had just done the scariest part. Saying hello!

This summer had been- in one word- busy. Matilde felt like she hadn’t stopped moving since she’d stepped off the train home. Though she didn’t regret going to summer camp, it had certainly felt like she hadn’t been home much this summer.

And here she was again. On the platform, she hugged her family one last time. She didn’t really see the need for her whole family go with her all the way from Ireland. Her mother, father, and even her grandparents. It was sweet though, and the girl appreciated the gesture very much.

With one hand dragging her trunk behind her and the other holding her bunny against her chest, the girl boarded the Hogwarts Express. A burst of excitement filled her, as it all sunk in. She was going back!

Matilde slowly made her way through the corridor, looking for a friendly face. Her eyes lit up as she spotted Ophelia Northwell. The two hadn’t hung out much last year, but she had suddenly been seeing a lot of her fellow second year. Matilde entered the compartment, sitting down across from the ravenclaw. “Hi Ophelia!” She said cheerfully. Suddenly, she noticed the compartment was a lot more full than she had first thought. One of the boys she had definitely seen around Hogwarts. She was fairly certain he was a second year too, slytherin, but other that didn’t know much about him. The other boy she didn’t think she’d ever seen before. Maybe a firstie?

“Oh, hello!” She turned her attention to the boys. “I don’t know if we’ve met. I’m Matilde, Matilde O’Fionnagan.”

Today was the best. School was starting back, and they got to see all their friends again (even the ones who denied they were friends), and it was wonderful and they would like it all to hurry up please. Nothing was wrong at all. Fine and happy and normal, they clutched their trunk in one hand and their broom bag in another. The holidays had been good, and it was nice to see their family again. Summer camp had been amazing as well (if a little cold), but they were almost beginning to miss their bed in the dungeons.

They had been one of the last people to get on the train, and a lot of the compartments they passed were already full. Looking out for someone to annoy someone they knew, they continued down the corridor. The perfect target presented itself in the form of pancake boy. He had been one of their tentmates at summer camp, and they had stolen pancakes from him in the past. Though he would probably deny it, Cass considered him a friend. He didn't get a choice in the matter. Also in the compartment was a second year girl they thought they had seen around the great hall before, a short boy they didn't recognise and another girl who also looked vaguely familiar.

"Pancake boy!" they said as they chucked their stuff up into the overhead compartment. "How was the holidays?" they asked, plonking themself down on the seat across from him without waiting for an invitation. "Take a seat" they said to the girl who was standing [Ophelia] "I'm sure pancake boy loves the company". If Ernest was afraid of cats, then all the better. There was no place like the Hogwarts express for spontaneously overcoming your fear of small fluffy animals. Cats didn't mind Cass, but they had never really been chosen as the favourite hand to receive pats from. There was an old saying that cats were a good judge of character. If that was true then no wonder they chose to stay away.

"You sit down too" they said with a hand wave towards the boy [Marco]. "Are you all second years?" they said to the group in general "I'm Cass. Second year Slytherin, and pancake boys favourite person in the whole world". They had missed annoying poor children who just wanted some peace and quiet. This was going to be a fun year.

Ernest watched in distaste as his compartment was invaded by young students, his peace disturbed and a headache threatening to start pounding on his temple even now. The first to stumble in was a girl; with black hair that hung loose and bright blue eyes. She came in with a cat in tow; Ernest's own had hidden herself under his seat, not liking company either. “Ernest,” He mumbled out as she made herself comfortable. He looked at her cat interestingly, she was smaller than his own.

Next up was a small boy, a nervous little thing. With black hair and dark eyes, he wasn’t ugly but he seemed so plain. “Sit and stop stuttering, it's irritating,” Ernest said to him, rolling his eyes. “And thank god we are the first, you still have time to get yourself together before you make yourself the laughing stock of the first years.” He knew he was being harsh, but others would have spells instead of words thrown at them for such a fumble of an introduction. Hell, he still offered the boy a seat!

The next to invade was a girl; her hair was red and her accent was strong. Ireland girl, he was immediately able to tell. She also carried an animal in her arms, but not like his own. A rabbit stared at him and he stared back. “Matilde, please turn that thing around, its making me uncomfortable,” He mumbled under his breath, his skin crawling as the thing looked on at him, he felt judged by its beady little eyes.

Last to enter was someone Ernest knew all too well, Cass Ito entered with all the audacity of a kid who knew they were exactly where they wanted to be. He just watched the other talk and chatter with them with an irritated expression, though he didn't want to admit that their company never made him feel the need to get up and leave; and they were never boring.

“For the love of Merlin,” He gritted out and bent over to pick his cat up from under his seat, he was gentle as he held her up for them to see. “No fear of cats here, just irritation and annoyance.” Simkrema was placed in his lap softly, her purring making him relax some.

It was safe to say that Ophelia was probably just as horrified by the amount of people who entered the train compartment after her as the boy who'd originally been there was.

First it was another boy. He seemed younger than her just by the way he carried himself and spoke, but that could be a wrong assumption. Ophelia decided not to answer his question of whether or not he could seat here "for a second" as she herself was also waiting for an answer to the same question, though she'd requested the right for a much longer time.

That was when the original boy deigned to introduce himself, with a quick, and rather impolite, pronunciation of his name. Ernest. Perhaps she would've spoken her name aloud back to him, and the other boy, but it seemed fate had other plans, for another person entered their compartment.

This person, at least, didn't frighten Ophelia's inner peace. "Hello Matilde." The Ravenclaw's voice was softer than her Hufflepuff friend's greeting, but she was sure that Matilde had heard. And when the boy that she'd asked permission to sit here-- Ernest-- asked Matilde to turn her cute little bunny rabbit around because of his discomfort, Ophelia couldn't help but crack an amused smile. Maybe if she'd been a bit more comfortable, she'd have let out a giggle, or even a full-blown laugh, but some inner part of her wouldn't let her get that far with this many people, two of them unknown to her, in the compartment.

As if that wasn't enough, another person entered their compartment, making themselves right at home by plopping down on a seat and throwing their luggage overhead without even asking for permission. They even decided to call Ernest a... a "pancake boy?" As if Ophelia wasn't confused and startled enough, they stared straight at her and told her to sit down. And, for some reason, Ophelia's body obeyed. Like the latest occupant, Ophelia heaved her trunk overhead and then sat down, right across from Matilde, making sure to take Dove out and keep her on her lap first, of course.

It was then, after Cass had introduced themselves and everyone had settled down, for the most part, that Ernest decided to speak up again, thoroughly annoyed by the look on his face. A part of Ophelia relaxed in knowing that Ernest-- who honestly seemed the scariest out of the bunch so far-- was not afraid of kitties.

Now that all the introductions and everything was over, Ophelia hoped that the rest of the ride would be... normal. That was the least she could ask for. But of course, tiny little Dove, had plans of her own.

Just as Ophelia had made herself comfortable, tightening her robes, Dove jumped from out of her lap. The kitty was social by nature, and extremely active, but she was, for the most part, well behaved. The Ravenclaw unfortunately hadn't anticipated her wanting to greet a new possible cat friend. Oh no. Dove was just a one year old kitten, and yet, with the speed of light itself, she play-attacked Ernest's cat.
