Shifting her weight to her toes, Mila tried to look over the crowd of people to spot the train that would bring her to her new school. Only the top of the train was visible to her, as taller students and their families blocked her view. Stretching her neck didn't help either, so the young girl gave up, unable to hide her disappointment. If her mother would just stop talking, she could just take a look at the train. Seeing the vehicle that would take her to Hogwarts, just like it had taken her brothers to the school the past 9 years, was way more important than whatever her mom was rambling on about.

"Never comb your hair while-" "Mom, I know," Mila interrupted her mother mid-sentence, too impatient to listen to another lecturer on how to take care of her hair. To say she had paid attention the previous times was an overstatement but she wasn't going to start now. Besides, how hard could it be to take care of her hair? She has had this hair her whole life and other people were able to take care of their hair easily as well. Sure, her curls required a bit more care, but nothing she couldn't handle! "You have said this a million times already."

She looked at her mom, a soft smile appearing on her face as she locked eyes with her mother. Just like many other physical features the mother-daughter duo shared, their eyes were the exact same dark brown shade. One big difference was the look in their eyes, one eager and impatient, while the other was filled with love and endearment. Mila thought to have spotted a tear forming in the corner of her mother's eyes but didn't have the time to take a good look, as she was pulled into a hug. Wrapping her arms around her mom's waist, the young girl allowed herself to relax a bit. This was probably the last hug she was going to get from her mother in a while. "I love you," she said softly. "I love you too and we'll miss you a lot," her mom whispered back. "That we will," Mila's dad agreed with his wife before stealing his daughter for a hug.

Only when her parents had given her enough hugs and kisses, Mila was ready to get on the train. Well, almost ready. She still had to get her suitcase and bag on the train and say goodbye to her brothers. Struggling to keep her balance, due to her heavy suitcase and backpack, the young girl tried to make her way to the train. Her brothers were a few steps behind her, trying their best to convince the stubborn girl to let them carry her things. After a few steps, Mila had to take a break because she almost lost her balance. An opportunity her oldest brother, Dario, took with both hands as he snatched the suitcase from his little sister's hands. "Hey! Give that back!" she yelled, refusing to admit defeat. Behind her other brother let out a little chuckle. "We both know you aren't getting that one back," he commented. After giving his little sister a quick hug, Colby gave her a little smile. "You should get on the train before it leaves with your suitcase and without you." Mila nodded with a sad little smile and ran towards her oldest brother, who had just put her suitcase on the train. "I could have just carried it myself," she told him as she gave him a big hug, "but thank you." "Of course," her brother said as he patted her head.

As she got on the train, she looked back over her shoulder to see her family standing together, waving her goodbye. A wave of sadness hit her as she realized she wouldn't see them for months. Her family was one of the most important things to her and she hated being away from them. Her eyes got watery as she let them wander across the platform. The blue hair of one of the other students caught her attention as they boarded the train with their siblings. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she jealously stared at the student, who was lucky enough to go to Hogwarts with their siblings. If only she could have done the same. Her oldest brother, Dario, had graduated from Hogwarts a couple of years ago, while Colby had finished school last school year. They had spent a lot of their years at Hogwarts together, while Mila would be alone. After waving at her family one last time, she turned around and looked for a compartment.

"Exactly how long do you need us to pose for?" Roderick asked, slinging an arm around Astra's shoulder. The shorter redhead put on her best "I'm really quite pleased to be taking a picture" smile.

"Not long," Maria commented, peering through her camera. "You two are horrible models."

Hermes twined himself between her legs, going round and round in a figure eight sort of way, causing Astra's harsh fake smile to soften a little. The cat seemed to feel his owner's gaze, and he stopped abruptly, turning his head to fix his large golden eyes on her so sharply that he fell over, causing both Astra and Roderick to laugh as they glanced down at him.

"Aha!" Maria crowed in triumph. Hermes, righting himself, trotted over to Astra and yowled at her feet as if to say How could you laugh at me in my time of need? She picked him up and let him situated himself on her shoulders.

"Are you two positive you have everything? Morella gave me very clear expectations on how many parcels of your stuff she was to receive from Taobh Beinne," Aces said, not sternly, looking quite smart in her blazer and slacks, having come straight from her work. "The number being zero."

Astra nodded, sending a sideways glance to her duffel and backpack. With the help of reducio, packing has become so much more easy, even if her bags were disproportionately heavy. "Pretty sure, yeah," she said, looking back up at her aunt.

A tall figure in a rather dramatic trenchcoat seemed to be running towards them, and as it came closer it could be recognized as Uncle Ray with a letter clutched in his hand. "Ah good! Got this right after you lot left. From your dad." He pressed the letter to Roderick. It was a little bulgey, as if it had something in it. "You two have fun, learn a lot, be sure to owl." He had to get back to work, then back to Balquhidder. Quick hugs and hair ruffles before he was off again.

Aces swept both into an embrace. "Don't get into too much trouble. Don't do anything I wouldn't. And definitely don't look forward to any sort of Quidditch event over the holiday. Or any sort of front row seats to any sort of Quidditch event."

Astra and Roderick exchanged a look of pure excitement, assurances no such things would occur spilling from their lips. Maria's goodbye was wordless and probably the most suffocating hug ever.

And then they were off. Again.

By silent agreement, Astra and Roderick parted ways at the station. Astra wasn't looking for anyone particularly, people having lost the little appeal they once had, and he had his group of associates.

She entered the train and looked left and right for an empty compartment.

That is, until she heard the crying.

A girl, shorter by a few inches and certainly younger by a year if her current mood was anything to go off of. Hermes purred inquisitively, poking his head out towards the younger girl.

To the left, an empty compartment. "Hey," Astra said softly, "Would you like to sit with me?" She motioned to the empty compartment.

Dragging her suitcase behind her, softly sobbing, Mila struggled to find a compartment. If her brothers had been here, they would have found the best compartment for her and carried her suitcase to it. Despite being surrounded by many students who would all follow the same journey to Hogwarts, the young girl felt extremely alone. As she wiped away one of her tears, she heard a voice greet her softly. Turning her attention from her suitcase to the voice, Mila had to look up a bit as the girl was a bit taller than her. Her complete focus was on the red-haired girl, causing the cat to go unnoticed by her. "Hi," she replied awkwardly before aggressively wiping away the last few tears that made their way down her cheeks.

A small but happy nod was given as a reply to the girl's question. A glimmer of hope replaced a part of the sadness in the girl's dark brown eyes. "I would love to," Mila answered, her voice less shaky now. The girl seemed really nice. The other student's pale skin and blue eyes were quite the opposite of Mila's tanned skin and dark eyes. Unsure of the girl's age, Mila didn't know if she was also a first-year or an older student. As the tears, sobbing, and sniffing slowly faded away, the young girl finally noticed the purring cat. A look of surprise appeared on her face for a second before it was taken over by a big grin. "You have a cat!" she exclaimed.

The visible excitement that had taken over the young girl made it really hard to believe she had been crying less than a minute ago. The only proof of her past sadness were her slightly red watery eyes, however, time made those signs disappear as well. Instead of asking the taller girl if it was okay to pat her cat, Mila put quickly down her suitcase, taking a step towards the adorable creature, before extending her hand for the cat to sniff. She avoided any sudden movements to avoid scaring the cat, as she waited for the approval of the cat. Her mom had taught her to always respect animals. Even if they were the most adorable thing that had to be patted and given love, if they didn't want it, they should be left alone.

Like most other cats, this one was very adorable and deserved a lot of love. Mila really hoped the cat would allow her to give it pats. The grey fur of the elegant cat was decorated by a dark spotted patern. Her knowledge on different cat breeds wasn't really big, but Mila was sure she had never seen this type of cat before. "What type of cat is it?" she asked curiously, now completely forgotten about the empty compartment. "And does the cutie have a name?" Once she had the time, she needed to sit down and write a letter to her mom, who shared her love for animals and nature, to inform her about the cat she had met. Maybe she should also write about the nice girl... The cat was way more important though.

"Awesome," Astra replied. She cracked a smile. "I can help you with your trunk it you want." It looked sort of heavy. Maybe Astra could levitate it to place it in the optimal spot.

Astra sent a sideways glance to her shoulder as Hermes' presence was noticed. The cat looked almost smug in the midst of delight at being the center of attention. His purring sounded like an engine as he sniffed her hand delicately before nuzzling against it. "You're right, I do!" Astra responded with a chuckle, setting down her own luggage to twist her arms all contortionist like to get him off of her shoulders and into her arms. Hermes sat all pretty, tail twitching and large golden-green eyes peering up at the younger girl, slitted pupils soft around the edges in the dim traincar hall. "He's an Egyptian Mau, and his name is Hermes," Astra answered Mila's questions. She held out the feline a fraction of an inch closer to the girl. "Would you like to hold him? He's quite calm and gentle, you don't have to worry about spooking him. He loves the attention." That was an understatement. Hermes was an absolute ham, and he thrived off of the attention from anyone and everyone.

If Mila accepted the offer of cat, Astra would whisper the Levitation Charm over the younger girl's trunk and float it into the compartment while heaving her duffle back onto her shoulder. If Mila did not accept the offer of cat, Hermes would simply be placed on the ground before the exact same sequence of events.

"Well now that you two are acquainted," Astra started, dropping her own stuff on one side of the compartment after placing Mila's in a suitable area of the other side, "could I get your name?" She sat, wedged between the back of her seat and the window, as per usual, inviting Hermes to come sit if he wasn't already curled up in Mila's lap."I'm Astra. Second year, House Slytherin." It felt weird, introducing herself as a second year. But that's what she was now. Old. Ew.

Despite the other girl having the best intention when offering to help with the trunk, Mila didn't like it. Did the other student think she wasn't strong enough to do it herself? Luckily for Astra, she wasn't one of Mila's brothers, or she would be the victim of a dirty look. "No, thank you," the young girl replied, forcing herself to smile. "I got it." Even her best efforts to soften her voice failed to hide the harshness in her reply, some of it slipping through in the tone of her voice.

Suppressing the urge to pick up the cat, she waited impatiently for a reaction of either the cat or his owner. At first, she hadn't noticed it over the noises produced by the other students on the train, but now Mila was sure the cat was purring. After the adorable creature showed his approval by nuzzling against her hand, she stepped forward to pat the cat. Only when the other girl tried to get the cat off her back, did Mila take a step back. An Egyptian Mau. She would have to remember that to tell her mom. "Hi Hermes, nice to meet you," Mila whispered to the cat as she patted the top of his little head. "Yes! I would love to hold him!" she interrupted, too excited to have good manners. The rest of the words of the other girl went unregistered with Mila, as she was too focused on getting the cat in her arms.

Too busy cuddling with the cat, Mila didn't notice when Astra casted the levitation Charm over her trunk and moved it into the compartment. As her hand moved over the soft fur of the cat, his large golden-green eyes stared back at Mila. He was so cute. If only she could keep him and have him in her room when she wanted cuddles or to play with him. "Aren't you the prettiest little thing? So cute, so adorable," her voice high pitched as she spoke to the cat in Spanish. "You deserve all the love and cuddles and food. Yes, all of it," she told the cat while holding him like a little baby. He seemed quite content in her arms, tail twitching and loud purring. If it hadn't been for the girl's comment, Mila would have stood there for an hour, if not more.

Looking away from the cat, she turned her attention to the student. "Oh, yes. Names!" she giggled. "I'm Mila, nice to meet you! she replied with a big smile as she moved to the other side of the compartment, still cuddling with Hermes. "I'm a first year so I don't have a house yet," she added. Being careful not to make the cat uncomfortable, Mila sat down across from Astra. Even though the other invited Hermes to sit on her lap, Mila hoped the cat would stay with her.

After suffering the awkwardness of waiting on the platform with her Papa and sisters, Erlea was trembling. With excitement? With nerves? Probably a bit of both. Her mother hadn't made an appearance to wish her youngest daughter off to Hogwarts for the first time, and whilst Erlea and her father understood why, her sisters did not. They hadn't been clued in to the fact that their youngest sister was now what their mopther called a monster. Something that would attack them in the beds apparently. Bloodlust when the full moon rose. Kielor had scoffed at Lillian's proposterous allegations, citing that Erlea was still their daughter. The same child who just two months ago Lillian had proclaimed to be the shining light in her life. Not anymore though.

As the train whistle blew, Erlea hugged her father hard, and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "Don't worry, Papa. I'll be alright." It wasn't untrue. She was going to be fine. She had her sisters, and apparently the school would supply her with wolfsbane. She would make it. She just had to make sure no one asked any questions. If people knew that the Bevensworth's now had a werewolf among them, well... she could kiss resolving things with her mother goodbye.

Stepping up into the train, Erlea let her sisters find their friends elsewhere in the compartments before she continued. She smiled and assured them that she would be fine. That word again. She would make friends. Have a normal first year. At last she found one. It had two younger students in it, and apprehensively Erlea knocked on the door before sliding it open, pausing at the doorway. "Excuse me," she began, "Would it be alright if I joined you?" One of the girls had a cat in her lap, looking exuberantly happy with herself and the other a wand, deciding that the window spot was hers to claim. Here went nothing. Make friends Erlea.

Astra was glad to have put the younger girl at ease, if only a little bit, with Hermes. The cat, while being a source of stress, had also been a source of comfort for her as well. It was strange. Astra had never been cold-hearted, not really, but most of last year had her way out of her depth and her care for people drowned just as the rest of her had seemed to. Perhaps it was a good omen, then, that the start of a new school year heralded the rebirth of this care, and that her efforts had been successful thus far was a great encouragement.

Mila, as she would soon learn, spoke Spanish to the little cat. He reacted very positively. Already melted into her lap in a puddle of affection and purring like a racecar, his ears pricked up and one could almost imagine a smile. His meow was happy. There were words he seemed to be familiar with in there, spoken by Sofia over him throughout the summer stay at Talla Samhraidh.

"A pleasure to meet you, Mila. I'll wish you good luck in your sorting ceremony, then." She stared out the window, stretched out on the seat. "Hoping for any particular house?"

Her gaze flicked over to the door as soon as she heard knuckles rap upon in, and up she sat. Tall, lithe, hazel-eyed and honey-haired. "Yeah, course, plenty of room. Need a hand with luggage?" Astra asked, spinning her wand out of the pocket of her cargo pants once more.

While trying to think of an answer to Astra's question, Mila continued patting the cat that purred happily in her lap. "I don't think so. One of my brothers used to be in Gryffindor, just like my dad, so they both hope I will also be in Gryffindor I think. My other brother was in Ravenclaw, but I don't think I will get that," she explained. Neither of her older brothers were very similar to her, so she didn't really know where she would end up. "OH!" she exclaimed, remembering the house of Emery, her favourite cousin who she looked up to a lot. "My cousin, well of one them, used to be in Hufflepuff and she is super cool, so I would love to be in Hufflepuff!" Cool definitely wasn't a word Emery or anyone else would use to describe them but in Mila's eyes, they were the coolest person around. "They worked at Hogwarts last year," she added happily. "Now they don't anymore sadly, it would be very cool to have Emery around," she trailed off, getting lost in thought. Emery had stopped working at Hogwarts to take care of her mother. Mila's aunt had gotten sick and Emery as nurse had decided to take care of her mom. It was quite an upsetting thought, the young girl loved her aunt.

After a knock on the door, another student joined the two. Astra offered to help the new girl with her luggage as Mila's focus turned back to Hermes. "What about you? Do you like Slytherin?" she asked Astra. Nobody in her direct family had been in Slytherin and even in her extended family, there weren't a lot of people who had joined that house during their time at Hogwarts, so Mila had never heard as much about it as the other houses. If she remembered correctly, one of her oldest cousins was a Slytherin. However, they had never really talked that much due to their age gap. Unlike other people in her family, that cousin didn't really like children that much. She was mostly focused on her career as a seer and had no interest in kids. The same went for her husband, who Mila found a cold man. "I don't know a lot about Slytherin. What is your favourite thing about it?"
