The vision replayed in her brain, over and over and over again. She'd been the cause for this boy to go unconscious. She'd been the reason for him to be out of the duel. Flying spells and intense duels were all fun and games- until you realised that people could actually get hurt, and the French girl had just gotten to that point. All she saw was her perfectly executed Knockback Jinx hitting the foreign boy square in the chest, to vaguely see him flying, hit the floor, and then not get back up.
Maybe that was normal in duelling, knocking someone out. Maybe it was normal, but it still made Aurélie shake to know that it was her fault. That what she'd been practising for this entire year in Beauxbatons to make this duelling team was to do this. She closed her eyes and took a breath, trying to get her brain to visualise anything else.
Figuring that she'd have better luck, Aurélie opened her eyes, her gaze going straight to a spell aimed straight at her teammate Nikolai. Unlike the same spell that had been aimed at Phelan, the Dancing-Feet Spell was fated to hit Nikolai, and the Beauxbatons girl couldn't help but crack a smile as the Durmstrang boy's hips swayed to imaginary music. As a dancer herself, she enjoyed watching people dance and would never laugh at them, but something about this forced samba made a giggle burst from her lips.
"Sorry," She whispered at him, hoping he heard it. That was when Aurélie realised that she'd managed to distract herself from thinking about the unconscious boy who'd been dragged out of the field by mediwizards.
Aurélie just had to focus until the end of this duel. Then she could go and find the boy and apologise to him, both for the extremely uncomfortable Slug-Vomiting Charm from before, as well as knocking him out. Tightening her grip on her wand, she felt somewhat ready for the round to come.action • as strategisedabilities
When you cast a spell, you take your time doing so. You enunciate your words with care and you do not recklessly swish your wand about. Your spells don't backfire, they don't fail. You're too much of a Perfectionist to let that happen.

Nikolai Volka | Durmstrang Third Year Duellist
It had been a hard decision, calculations whirring through his mind Nikolai knew he was likely to be the continued victim of the opposing team but he knew he could handle it. Feeling the familiar wash of magic pull from his heart down to his hand he harnessed the darkness that still clouded him and feeling the twang of recognition he released his own upon Reuben and Ariam just as they were beginning to regain their sight.
Although the logical move certainly helped with retaining an even playing field but in choosing the team over himself he was destined for a great deal of pain... at least so he thought but the other team seemed to instead wish to see his dance moves. Feet moving beyond his control he found himself laughing along with the giggles of Aurelie. For this was not the first time this summer an event had forced Nikolai into revelations of his dancing prowess but much like the former he was determined to perform.
Letting the spell merge with his own skills. he had been trained in as a child. he found the Samba to be quite exhilarating. It was far from the dreadfully boring waltzes he had been raised on and despite the inability to end his curse Nikolai found himself to be having fun. Throwing a wayward hand towards Aurelie he winked and said "Perhaps we should share a dance one day Ms. Duval I wouldn't want to steal the spotlight forever."
In the haze of the smoke he had hardly noticed Zyair's collapse and if the referee had not paused the duel he likely never would have. Perhaps the etiquette was far more hardy given Durmstrang's combat magic classes but things as simple as unconsciousness wouldn't faze them, to fall in a duel was to have given your all and so in respect he touched his hand to his draconic broach and wished the student well.
It seemed victory was within their grasp but things were not always so simple in duelling and Nikolai was not about to let his guard down now.

Ariam smiled at the sight of Zyair's spell hitting the target, even though they missed their own and this match is looking very hopeless for them they still managed to find something to hold on to. Reuben not casting anything confused Ariam but they quickly got distracted by the site of their friend being knocked out. The effect of the smokescreen spell was still intact, another one by the Durmstrang boy did not help with the visibility but the sound of someone getting knocked out was hard to miss. The site of their friend getting carried to the infirmary tent by the Mediwizards made Ariam feel more anxious.

It was as if Phelan and Ariam were locked in a fight of their own. The boy’s spell had hit Ariam, while Phelan narrowly dodged theirs. He felt bad. The wix wasn’t looking too good. But Phelan was just playing the game, wasn’t he?
Looking to his teammates, Phelan realized that Nikolai had not managed to evade Zyair’s dancing feet spell. The boy laughed, but it wasn’t with spite. Aurelie and even the dancing boy himself were laughing too. Phelan couldn’t help but roll his eyes as he heard Nikolai offer Aurelie a dance. Maybe the smoke was obscuring his vision, but was that a wink?
The boy felt a strange feeling in his chest. For a moment he thought he had been jinxed without his realizing it. But that wasn’t it. Wait a minute. Was he having fun?

The match was getting worse by the minute. Reuben watched as one of his teammates was knocked out and out of the game. It seemed that the tables had turned back against them as soon as they had turned in their favor. There was another cast of Fumos, and they were surrounded in darkness once more, but Reuben would not give up hope. They had to win this duel, and for that, they did not have the time to give up.

Perhaps it was natural to have a cool down after the duellists displayed an invigorating bit of magic. Each of them - with the exception of one - fell short in accurately sending a spell after their target. Phelan should consider himself lucky after Reuben’s Knockback Jinx passed so close to him that the Irish-French wizard could have sworn it grazed the tip of his ear. Nikolai aimed his blaze of spell at Reuben, but the presence of the smoke and the snap of his legs as they tried to recreate a samba were enough to allow Reuben time to step out of the way.
Phelan and Ariam were locked in constant battle against each other, and while the former had a simple outcome - his spell passed nowhere close to Ariam - the latter once again faced a spell gone rogue. Instead of shooting forwards through the smoke, it went left. Reuben was able to duck just in time as his teammate’s Knockback Jinx barreled towards him.
The only lucky one in this group was Aurélie whose spell managed to find purchase on Reuben’s wand. The Uagadou student saw the thing go limp and flexible in his casting hand, but he had a sense that the spell wasn’t as powerful as it could have been and casting with his wand wouldn’t have a totally disastrous consequence.
Finally, the entirety of the Beauxbatons & Durmstrang team could breathe easy again as their visions were cleared of any lingering smoke. Now they had clear views of Team Uagadou & Castelobruxo’s silhouettes who were still trapped in their cloud.

He'd asked her to dance with him at some point. She sent his wink right back, her's a bit more enthusiastic and definitely not as refined. "I'd love to show you how to really dance, Nikolai!" Her voice held a musical lilt, and she was happy as the smoke that had previously concealed so much for the Beauxbatons-Durmstrang team faded away slowly. Now she could see the Durmstrang student and his dance moves without obstruction.
This time, Aurélie went with a spell that she'd rarely practised before-- the Softening Charm. It was just a stroke of pure luck which had made her land the spell, directly at her foreign target's wand too. Proud, the Beauxbatons girl grinned. She could practically taste their victory on her tongue, it was palpable in the air, they just needed to finish this off.action • as strategisedabilities
When you cast a spell, you take your time doing so. You enunciate your words with care and you do not recklessly swish your wand about. Your spells don't backfire, they don't fail. You're too much of a Perfectionist to let that happen.

Ariam exhaled in relief after dodging yet another spell, the knockback jinx aiming for them did not hit its target. Their own knockback jinx despite aiming for Phelan went towards Reuben, it was very lucky that he avoided it and Ariam did not injure their own teammate. The smokescreen spell was still in effect which contributed to Ariam's lack of accuracy. Reuben's spell had more of a chance of hitting but Phelan dodged it anyways. It seems everyone was doing pretty well at dodging spells, the only one that hit was Softening Charm aimed at Reuben's wand. Hopefully his casting won't be too affected.

Nikolai Volka | Durmstrang Third Year Duellist
The round was almost a complete and utter failure, Nikolai's spell failed to connect due to the rhythm of his Samba loving feet and Phelan's attack hadn't faired any better. Fate seemingly had chosen to favour neither team as their attacks similarly failed to land a blow. Stuck in a stalemate was not a particularly interesting place to be and the young boy felt himself growing agitated by the lack of progress. Recently in life Nikolai had learned to see every opportunity as a way to grow his potential and self but how was he to grow if the duel continued this way.
As if she could read his thoughts Aurelia shielded his mind from dissatisfaction by replying to his comments and offering a wink in return. Never having had many friends until the previous year it filled his heart with flutters of joy to see his jovial jesting reciprocated and he hoped that he would get a chance to form a bond with the Beauxbatons belle. The wholesome moment came just in time as the smoke finally dissipated and his legs began to cease their movement.
Giving one final samba induced twirl he twirled his wand in his hand and aimed it towards the opposing team once more determined with a burning fire from within that he would perform better in the next round. The fire from his wand may have missed its target but it had lit up a spark inside him that yearned to be released, for what was a dragon without his fire.
