Weather: sunny and hot, but magically snowy
When the Hogwarts broom racing captains found out that the summer camp theme was colder than expected, they adapted quickly and made a bountiful winter wonderland for their foreign guests to compete in. It was Della's first time reffing the summer slot; she knew the experience would be unique given the climate, setting, and, in particular, the players. She had so far only watched over the Hufflepuff vs. Slytherin matches, but she knew the whole onslaught of Hogwarts players well from racing next to them. This group was a brand new batch of racers—hopefully bringing new skills and surprises. Well, good surprises, that is. If they played like Hufflepuff . . . brooms are for racing, not be used like battering rams.

Della was hovering high above the track—it felt like summer up here, but the racers were sure to start to feel an icy chill. "Welcome players from Ilvermorny, Koldovstoretz, Tenũsa, and Durmstrang. I'm honored to invite you all to race here in London! This is a simple exhibition match. Keep it clean and keep it quick—and please, just have fun!"

She waited for the teams to assemble themselves along the starting line and for the crowd to get settled in the stands.
This is a spectator thread for the Broom Race. 200 words is still the requirement for all threads. Please remember that you are not able to interface with the players in the race from a spectator thread.

It was tradition for Val to attend broom racing matches when Durmstrang was involved. Usually the captain of the quidditch team came to cheer for Mikael Halldorson and scout for players who might be “better off in quidditch.” This year, however, Val had two additional people to cheer on – Hans Jenssen and Gellert Schroeder.

Would Mikael notice or care that Val was there shouting his name like he did every single year? Of course the sentimental seeker hoped so, but he wouldn’t be surprised if Mikael was trapped inside his own living nightmare even when blazing at top speed through the obstacle course. As had become tradition, Val entered the stands wearing his commemorative Hexiwizard shirt, emblazoned with the oversized face of their old friend, Yefim Rumyantsev. The practice had started with the idea of making Mik feel like Yefim was there supporting him, too, but by now Val was wondering if sporting their precious Yeffy’s face was improving the odds of getting Mik to look Val’s way and feel like he wasn’t alone.

It wouldn’t matter if Hans and Gellert did not know the reason for Val’s appearance, because he shouted to each in support of them as well whenever they passed. Whenever the seeker was watching Gellert a nagging thorn at the back of his mind asked whether that boy he'd met before had been the real Gellert or not. It seemed quite unlikely for a snow sprite to be broom racing now, although Val would have admitted he didn’t know much about the capabilities of such creatures. Yet, was the entity called “Gellert” living a double life, half by a face-stealing doppelgänger and half by the real student who had to balance the demands of studies and sports against the social demands of Institute life? Given that Valentin had nearly been duped by a probable murderer wearing the face of his father not long ago, he was not quick to dismiss the prospect of shapeshifters secretly interfering with one’s life.

Then there was Hans. Hans Jenssen. The brown-eyed boy was not simply a potential target for poaching for the quidditch team. As Valentin had been getting to know him, both in isolation as well as in association with their mutual friend Nikolai Vol’ka, Hans had been finding a special place in the half-Bavarian’s heart. “Young Icarus,” Val called Hans to himself – this boy was quite interesting to watch in terms of not only technique, but psychology. Yet, Val couldn't help but wonder if the younger Durm was really living up to his highest potential by broom racing. Was it really making Hans feel like he was living to the fullest, devouring no less than the sun itself, or was this just another placeholder on the boy’s way to his true calling?

Now was, of course, not the time to shout such contemplations at his friends. At the speeds they were going, there wasn’t enough time to form much of a complete sentence that would be intelligible as each passed. Instead, Valentin simply shouted each of their names when they were in earshot, followed by “DURMSTRANG!” when other members of their home team passed the checkpoint nearest him.

She was late. Not a lot, but she was late. Being late was pretty unusual with her, but she had a good excuse. It had been eleven days since the slug event, and Astrid had nightmares about it ever since. She only manage to get a little sleep, mostly after the sun started to rise. So she was tired, but she was here, climbing the stairs of the bleachers, in her long red dress. Her bag held her wand, her sketchbook, a pencil, and a little bag of glitters, ready to throw when Durmstrang wins.
The broom racers were already flying through the parcours. The girl smiled and cheered when she saw that her school was leading. Spotting Val's unmistakable white hair, she made her way towards him. Astrid snorted at the boy's shirt. "Hey!" She said cheerily before sitting down next to him. Elbows on her knees, she cupped her cheeks in her hands, looking towards the race. Focusing on racers, she sees Hans overtaking an older Ilvermorny student. "GO HANS!" She was now applauding the younger boy, cheering for him and their school.
