Weather: Bright sun, the height of summer days in the Scottish Highlands.
The scorching heat of the Scottish summer beat down upon the bodies gathered around the broom racing course. The sun was high in the cloudless sky. Upon the verdant green grass that spread all around the campground, stands had been erected for spectators, though there was not much to see as of yet. The course, it would seem, consisted of a few trees, vines, and passageways. Hardly thrilling for those used to the death-defying stunts required to best the giant squid. But somewhere, lurking on the track, there were a few surprises for the racers...Link to Broom Racing System: viewtopic.php?t=12981
Plus, it was just sweltering hot. It would be a miracle if all of them made it to the end without passing out from dehydration. At least the course was short this year. Lacking a proper adult to moderate the proceedings, Hufflepuff Captain George Henry had been placed atop a high stand with a megaphone to shout race commentary for the less perceptive spectators. To begin with, the teams - much like the course - were short. Just four racers each. A diverse cast, with four hailing from Durmstrang, and the rest forming an interschool coalition of sorts for kicking edgy student butts.
"It's a beautiful day for a broom race, folks. Welcome to the final broom race of this year's summer games - please welcome the Durmstrang racers!" George shouted through his megaphone as he welcomed a quartet of brooding Nordic models to the course. Those with exceptional eyesight could even see the moderator roll his eyes. Clear evidence of bias! Nonetheless, he joined the crowd in giving the racers a round of applause. "This is, of course, Mikael Halldorson, Kheanu Maravill-o Mondelez, Stormy de Graaf, and Yev- Yevgen- Yevgeny Isaevich... Ogarev!"
"And now our interschool racing team - composed of two Koldovstoretz racers, Annika Milanova Novikov and Angelique Selemine, as well as Chiaki Hiroi of Mahoukotoro and Lorelai Diniz of Castelobruxo," he said, looking far more interested in this assortment as the came out onto the course. How would such a mish-mash of schools perform against the Durmstrang team? Perhaps they would bring all the best tactics from their respective schools? It remained to be seen.
In the stands, there were entrepreneurial students selling visors and popcorn for the spectators. A diverse mess of students from all over the continent and beyond were scattered around. Plenty of opportunity to make friends around the world.
"Alright, everyone, line up on your marks..." he said, giving everyone a moment to settle and do their pre-game rituals and greetings. "Get set... race!"

DURMSTRANG vs INTERSCHOOL SUMMER 2023
Valentin appreciated the pace of broom racing, a speed freak himself, but today he was here to cheer on his Durmstrang friends and comrades. Somehow, the match from just one year ago felt like a century ago. Valentin would have preferred to be out there attaining high speeds alongside the other Durmstrang flyers, but he instead justified tying himself to the ground by telling himself to pick up some new strategies by treating broom racing as a kind of intellectual cross-training. Watching from the a bench usually made him anxious to get a piece of the action and prone to getting himself in trouble after the match, however, so there was no telling what would happen after it concluded. Today Valentin tried to secure his antsy body by grasping the planks below him, but his fidgeting would only intensify as the start time approached.
As the announcer read out the names of the competitors, Valentin couldn’t help but look each one over with his hungry captain’s eye. Which of them might he be able to poach for the quidditch team? Would he ever be able to get Mikael back onto the pitch alongside him?
Glimpsing first at Kheanu, who had once shared a tent together with him, Yefim, and Mikael, Valentin shook his head to silence the thought. Kheanu could make for some very interesting strategies, pressed an obstinate inkling nonetheless. Valentin also recalled Stormy de Graaf from the boat ride to Hogwarts last spring, but didn’t know much about the fellow white-haired boy. The announcer’s stuttering at the name of one Yevgeny Ogarev drew Valentin’s eye to the only Durmstrang player he wasn’t familiar with – a boy with light brown hair and an inquisitive expression. Even from such a distance, Valentin could make out the long eyelashes on his light blue eyes that moved much less chaotically than the wing plumes of a golden snitch. As one of the few Durmstrang sportsmen he didn’t personally know, Valentin couldn’t help but be curious as to Ogarev’s flying style and personality. Standing up and leaning over the rail at the front of the stands, Valentin's eyes finally came to rest on the form of Mikael Halldorson taking his position. Stribog, keep Misha safe, thought Valya, unconsciously reaching for his nearby Silver Arrow before shoving his hands back into his pockets. Yet, with a roaring shout into the sky, Val's hands were flying back out in no time, rising as fists to address his comrades.

The gleaming 2-dimensional smile of Yefim's oversized head gazed back in Mikael's direction from its place on Valentin's commemorative Hexiwizard shirt. Valentin had, of course, wanted to help Yefim be present to cheer Mikael on today.
