Peter walked of Beauxbatons, the beautiful school he attended, wanting to be outside on this cool March day. Not to cool, nor to warm. A perfect day with a slight breeze that felt glossy on his pale cheeks. He carried his wand, inkwell, parchment, and the homework in a little satchel his father thought he might like to have.

Spotting the fountain, he sat on the pale concrete edge, and it took him a while for the whole bridge of his left foot to stay on the paved ground. If he was any shorter, his feet would be dangling down, like a little preppy smart-mouth girl kicking her feet, and possibly making trouble.

He flipped out his wand again and tried Wingardium Leviosa again with a tiny slip of parchment, throwing in the air, and Peter would have to quick enough to cast the spell. “Wingardium Leviosa!” He spoke with a flick and swish of his wand. The paper didn’t levitate. Persistent, he was, he tried again, this time, he was too slow, and the paper slowly flitted to the floor, like a robin swooping in for the early worm.

He glanced around, almost discouraged, and his eyes set on the numerous statues the dear school had, all polished up and ready to be on stage, Peter thought they were a little odd. His glazing green eyes sailed over one and onto another, its cream colored marble shone sickly in the sun’s warm radiation. Peter looked at the ground, the ground’s dirt a rich soft soil that was ready for use. The grounds keeper did a great job keeping statues polished, the flowers and plants trimmed the way he or she wanted it to be, the soil richer than a pile of money.

Aurélie's eyes widened as she took in the giant expanse of beautiful gardens. She'd come out here plenty of times, to snap a few pictures or just to relax, like she was doing today, and still, the sight made her take in a breath. Yes, Aurélie Nathalie Duval had a soft spot for beautiful things. And no, she was not afraid to show it. Her eyes took in everything as she roamed the grounds, content to just let herself be. When she was out in these gardens, she didn't feel the restless energy flowing through her, because her mind was focused on something else.

Making her way towards the central fountain near which she usually sat and rested for some time on her walks, Aurélie found that she wasn't alone enjoying the immaculate beauty of the school's gardens today. Today, a young boy, perhaps around her own age, was seated on the edge of the pristine fountain, seeming to be trying out a spell.

It wasn't Aurélie's intention to interrupt the boy's practice, in all honesty, she'd just wanted to mind her own business, but when the boy failed miserably at his practise, the French girl's pride bubbled up in her and a giggle escaped her lips. The boy surely wouldn't ignore her now. Aurélie was training to be on Beauxbatons' school duelling team, a recent obsession of hers, and she'd been practising hard. Unlike this boy, she was very good at casting spells.

The French girl walked over to the lip of the fountain on which the boy perched, surely eyeing her by this point. She came closer, uninvited and unafraid. "No, you're doing it wrong." She told him, automatically speaking in French. "Let me show you." She pulled out her wand from her robes and, after taking just a moment to remember what she was doing, tried to cast the spell. "Wingardium Leviosa!"

To her horror, the spell didn't work on the paper which she'd taken from the boy and thrown up in the air. In fact, the paper fell slowly, riding the wind, and Aurélie was left with turning to the boy and giving him a sheepish grin.

The Welsh boy whipped around to see a brown haired girl, giggling. Hmm. He had just switched the swish and flick around, didn't he? He watched as the girl walked up to him, and French floated up to his ears, it took him a while to understand.

Alright.. Peter was gonna say before the girl whipped her wand out, and he assumed the girl knew what she was doing. She automatically exclaimed, “Wingardium Leviosa!”

The paper, sadly, rode the wind, and sailed away from the Beauxbatons pair. The girl turned around with a large sheepish grin on her face, as she was saying sorry with her smile. He tried staying calm, and he took out a another piece of parchment. “Um, its o-” Peter started before he realized the girl may be be able to understand or speak English. “Well, nice try! What about this?” He spoke in French, the words lolling off his tongue felt weird. He never felt right speaking French. Oh well, he might one day!

The boy tried the spell again, and the paper sailed through the air again, the wind just about took it before, jumping off the fountain, Peter grabbed it with both hands. “Oops. Do you want to try again? I’m sure yours is better.” He handed the paper out to the girl, hoping she’ll show him how to do the spell.

Aurélie felt bad for barging in on the boy's practise. Not only had she probably embarrassed him for failing so many times at such a simple spell, but she'd embarrassed herself as well. She should've just kept going on her walk and ignored the boy and his practise. She could've headed towards her second favourite spot in the gardens instead. But she'd chosen this, and she wasn't one to back out.

As the boy began speaking back to her in hesitant French, a first for Aurélie to hear in this mostly French speaking school, the girl wondered if she should've started with English. Everyone knew aat least some English, it was required to be able to communicate with foreigners. Perhaps this boy had moved in from a different country and was forced to attend Beauxbatons.

Aurélie watched curiously as the boy tried the spell once more, concentrating on the piece of paper. Once more, he failed and the wind claimed the paper instead of the spell. He went running after it, catching the fragile thing in his hands before returning to where he'd been sitting. He turned to Aurélie and asked for help.

The French girl blinked at his words, mentally chastising herself for getting into this position. He never would've asked if she hadn't been a fool and offered to show him, thinking that she was better than him. This was what happened if one thought they were above failure. And I thought earning myself a spot on the duelling team was enough to prevent me from messing up the simple spells ever again. How wrong I was.

Taking a breath, Aurélie grabbed the paper from the boy's hands. She looked at him with a bright smile. "Uhm, okay." She grimaced. "Wingardium Leviosa!"

She squeezed her eyes shut, and when she opened them, she found that she had succeeded. "Whoa!" She clamped her mouth shut, turning to the boy with a fake but confident smile. "I mean, I knew I could do that." She switched over to English easily, since her tutors had been very good at adding the language into her lessons. She let out a flustered giggle.

Standing up next to the boy, Aurélie held out a hand. "I'm Aurélie, what's your name?"

The girl had had taken the paper from his hands, and Peter crossed his fingers behind his back as he saw the girl clench her eyes shut. A tight smile appeared on his face, and he watched ad the girl transfer from French to exclaiming the spell in English! She knew English? Did she knew Peter was Welsh?! He was not ready for that at all, yet. He calmed himself down, and a deep breath escaped from his chest. Although, Peter didn’t know that most French knew how to speak in lovely English, he realized some moved to France like him. Though, Welsh is much easier to learn, he calmly thought, the waves in his mind drafted back and forth, slowly and effectively.

The girl exclaimed when she opened her eyes wide open to see the paper flying. She turned to the Welsh half-blood with a smile that seemed almost celebratory but definitely confident. She giggled at her words and he smiled, “Whoo! That was great!” he then added, “Wait, you can speak English too? I kinda thought at this school, all kids only spoke French and/or their native language.”

The girl stood up nest to him and held out her hand, introducing herself, as Aurèlie. “What a nice name. I'm Peter, its quite nice to meet you, Aurélie. Peter beamed and shook Aurèlie’s hand she had held out.

Aurélie felt a smile that was just hesitant of shy emerge from somewhere within her. She didn't know why, but it felt extra rewarding as this boy complimented her on her spell and cheered her on. He seemed on the more silent scale of things, but nice. She loved meeting new people, and though she hadn't been expecting to do so today, she welcomed the turn of events with open arms.

Aurélie let out a small laugh at the boy's surprised comment at her ability to speak English. She didn't know about the boy, but she was pretty sure most Beauxbatons students spoke English to get by during the spectacular Hogwarts balls that no one wanted to miss. "I can speak English just fine, better than most, if you will. My tutors weaved it into my studies well, you see." She paused for a moment. "But I am better in French."

Then the boy introduced himself back, telling the French girl his name. Peter. Definitely not French, then it would've been Pierre. But she didn't say any of that out loud, not wanting to ruin this spontaneous meeting with him.

"Nice to meet you too! Are you a first year, like me?" Aurélie hesitated, biting back her eager tone. Many who first met her became weary because of her upbeat, enthusiastic personality. She let out a sunshine covered smile. Aurélie hoped that she didn't make the boy feel skittish. If she detected any of that from him, she decided, she would take her leave. "I know we've both been here for a while, but how are you liking Beauxbatons so far?"

Peter beamed as the girl shyly smiled. This was totally unexpected. Peter thought he was to learn the spell by himself, and then go back to his dorm. This was completely different.

A small laugh escaped the French girl. Peter’s cheeks almost switched color. But he refused to be embarrassed, he didn’t know how his Welshness might betray him. The girl seemed to know Peter wasn’t French, if she switched to English. “I see. French is a wonderful language. Maybe you could teach me how to speak it better?” The Welsh boy asked softly, hoping this wouldn’t be a burden to Aurélie. “Of course, if it won’t be to hard. I've heard that teaching someone a different language to someone else.” He added, the dark green in his eyes grew hopeful.

The French girl asked Peter if he was a first year like her. “Oh, yes. Yeah, I'm a first year.” The Welsh half-blood noticed the pep on the girl’s step. Hey, Aurélie is kinda like Brooke. Full of relentless energy though, way more peace than Brookline.

Peter paused at Aurélie ’s great question. He thought about it and then thought some more. “Well, its certainly a life-changing experience! Nothing like it.” He thought about his move to France. Not the best he’d ever experienced but he relized that might be rude. He added, “Beauxbatons is quite beautiful and I love how the students and teachers are very kind, like you.” His accent shone a bit more than usually, but he didn’t care at the moment. Even though he always tried to hide the fact that he was Welsh, it never seemed happen. A young Welsh boy in a large school with French boys and girls. It was a life-changing experience.

“You? I mean, how's life for you in Beauxbatons?” Peter asked Aurélie, turning the question back on her.

Aurélie blinked as the boy-- Peter, as he'd introduced himself-- requested her help on the French language. She'd never tutored anyone with her mother tongue before. Not that she didn't know how to, it was just... she'd never met anyone who wanted it. Everyone she'd ever spoken to was either French, like herself, or a foreigner who she'd met because of Beauxbatons and who spoke English pretty well.

Honestly, the French girl didn't even know if she could teach. Still, she found herself blurting out, "Yes! I mean, of course I'd like to help you." Aurélie sighed in irritation at her flustered self. What was going on? "I've never taught someone French before, but it can't be too hard, right?"

When Peter said that he thought she was kind, Aurélie looked away, that newly introduced shy smile making its way to her lips once more. She didn't know why she liked that he thought so, but she did. Maybe she needed some sleep. The French girl sure was tired.

"Well, I grew up with really really overprotective parents, if you know what I mean. And coming here has been so freeing." Aurélie smiled. Honestly, the thought of going back home after the school year was over, even just for a few weeks before summer camp began, made her feel homesick for Beauxbatons. It wasn't that she didn't love her parents, or didn't want to see them. No, in fact it was quite the opposite. She loved Élodie and Augustin very much, but the thought of them restricting her from being her silly, prankster self was just terrible. "I've barely ever been outside of Marseille before, let alone outside of France, and going to Hogwarts for the ball was so much fun."

The French girl gave Peter a small smile as she turned back to face him. He was taller than her, like most students were, and it forced her to have to tilt her chin up to look into his face. "I-I should go." The words stumbled out of Aurélie's mouth. She'd wanted this to be a quick, head-space-clearing garden walk before she finished up an essay that was due Monday morning and went to bed. She wanted to catch up on as much sleep as possible. "Do you... do you need any help on the spell before I leave?"

Peter smiled when Aurélie agreed. “Thanks. I really appreciate it!” The boy exclaimed, his dark green eyes changing from hopeful to appreciation.

Peter nodded in understanding as the French girl spoke about her strict parents. Brookline’s father wouldn’t pay attention much, but when he did, he was severe and stern but quite rude. And Iris, Peter’s muggle mother was very strict as well, as least she was kind and gentle about her firmness, wanting the best for for her magical children. He was glad for his parents. Most muggles and wizards parents split up after having half-blood kids, but his parents didn’t. He was glad to be a half-blood.

Hogwarts was fun! The half-blood thought, as he nodded again before saying, “Before I moved, France was probably one of the only places I've ever been to, besides... my home country.”Did Peter still want his nationality hidden? This girl seems so nice, shouldn't he tell her where he's from? But wouldn't she know already? His Welsh accent was pretty noticeable, if you ask Peter, himself. But maybe Aurélie wouldn't notice. He desperately hoped she didn't.

Then Aurélie stated she should go. The words dropped from her mouth and fell to the ground. The girl looked tired. She looks tired. I think I have prevented her from sleeping wth me talking. Me and my stupid damn yap.Peter thought, cursing himself. “Maybe, its the...” He went on, muttering how the spell went.

Peter finally stopped muttering, and pulled out his wand and took a piece of parchment from his satchel. He quickly muttered a “Wingardium Leviosa” and the paper levitated! He gasped.

Aurélie wondered why Peter was stumbling around just telling her what his home country was. She'd already switched to English, to make the transition easier for him, and she'd already figured out that he wasn't actually native French, so why was he being so stubborn? It wasn't like it was crucial bit of information. If the boy in front of her was anyone else, the ever fearless French girl might've pounced, directly asking where he was from, because for all her mastery in French and English, she couldn't place his accent. But something about the vulnerable, sensitive expression on Peter's face made the girl hold back her boundless energy and thoughtless mind.

So she just smiled and nodded, pretending like she didn't notice his pauses and awkward tone. One day, he'd know that she was good person and would probably tell her, and that was the day that Aurélie would know that she'd earned his trust. But until then, she'd be quiet, not wanting to burst his obvious, albeit silent, request for distance.

Peter seemed to want to try the spell that he'd been working on again, and Aurélie stepped back to give him a bit more space. She wondered if he'd finally get it this time. Come on, Peter, you've got this! Her silent cheers were mirrored on her face as she watched.

"Wingardium Levisoa!"

Aurélie waited for that little moment when the paper seemed weightless in the air, as if deciding whether it wanted to disobey the orders of its spellcaster, before it finally decided to levitate there.

"Yay! Great job, Peter!" Aurélie grinned, clapping her hands. "You did it!" Her happiness was most definitely genuine. "I guess you don't need my help then. But if you ever do, you should come find me! We can learn together." Feeling particularly bold, she winked, the grin still playing on her lips.

With a little wave, the Beauxbatons student set off, back down the path towards the palatial school from which she'd come.
