"Wait! No kidding? Miles really is on the other team?” he asked incredulously as EmmaLee finished up coating his back in sunscreen. His first reaction was that of disappointment, but then pure giddiness reverberated throughout his being. This could be an excellent opportunity for payback. Having to compete in Quidditch instead of Broom Racing was still rubbing him all the wrong ways, so a water balloon to the face (Miles' face) sounded like just the remedy to put that all behind him once and for all. When he turned back around to EmmaLee, his smile was wide and calculating. “Oh, this game just got a whole lot more interesting.”

She just giggled and motioned for him to follow her back to her group of friends. He was immediately happy to see Sara, and greeted him with a big, sincere smile. “Fantastic to see you again, Sara. Was hoping I’d come across you at some point during camp. Have to say, I’d much rather have you on this side of the divide than on the other,” and he chuckled good-naturedly before turning his attention to EmmaLee’s other friend after EmmaLee's introduction between the two.

“And hello, Aurélie, EmmaLee’s other freind,” and he shot a quick glance to EmmaLee and smiled. “It’s very nice to meet you,” and then to both Sara and Aurélie he added, “Hope you don’t mind if I join your little group. EmmaLee said come, so I couldn’t resist had no choice,” and he shrugged his shoulders up to his neck in an exaggerated manner as his hands spread out before him in a 'what else could I do?' display, all while failing at suppressing a grin.

Before anything more could be said between the little group, like any kind of strategizing, the signal was given and the game was afoot. Going with his first instinct, Stephen picked up a water balloon, and peeked his head over the top of the sand dune and looked for Miles. It took a few seconds to locate him, but once he did, he shot up, took aim, lobbed the water balloon, and sadly reckoned there was still a ton of science ahead of him to learn.

Fluid dynamics. It was real. It was a thing. It was a real thing that had absolutely nothing to do with his water balloon careening wildly off course from its designated target, much as Stephen would have like to pretend in the moment that it did. Damn inertia and Newton's First Law of Motion anyway. A bad aim was a bad aim, but honestly, Miles should have just sucked it up and stepped in front of it anyway. It would have offered him a moment of refreshing exhilaration on this warm and toasty day. Interesting as the physics of it all was to him in the moment, he had more pressing things to do and think about right then.

He whirled around to see Sara and Aurélie take out two of Team Winter’s opponents. “YES!!! Now that’s how it’s done!” He congratulated Aurélie and Sara on their fantastic hits. “Great job, the both of you!” Then looking to EmmaLee with a good deal of determination, he stated, “We need to step it up on this team within a team, Miss LeDames. How could we have both missed?!? Inconceivable!” and he grinned teasingly, enjoying the fun, the blessed heat, and most of all, the company.

At the sight of sand dunes and rolling waves, Pyxis almost wept. He’d been stuck in this winter nightmare for too long now, so the second his flip-flop clad feet hit the warm beige carpet, he sunk to his knees and fought off the urge to make a sand angel. Clearly, the true beauty of summer was enough to distract him from the task at hand - a dodgeball game. Without a care in the world for the game, he pushed himself to his feet and waddled back over to the entrance, carefully applying sunscreen to his t-zone and selecting the most approprate sunhat. This occured as the game raged on around him. As soon as Pyxis was satisfied with his choice in head gear, he jogged out to the center of the field and promptly dodged a snow ball.

“Hey!” he called, “I wasn’t ready!” But then the snake had a chance to observe and realized he was late to the party. Things had kicked off long before he settled himself properly. Okay, he’d have to get his head in the game now. And oop- Another snowball came sailing at him and he dove to avoid it. I didn’t realize I was so popular!

I was just sizing up the opposite team when a familiar voice greeted me.
"Yoo! It's been a while since I last saw you."
I turned around and saw a familiar face. A face that I had not seen in flesh for a long time.
"Ruben! Mate how've you been?" I exclaimed. I waited expecting an answer but he didn't reply. WHAT! Doesn't he know it's rude to ignore people especially when it was you that started the conversation. Ruben also had that kind dreamy look. I followed his eyes to a girl on the opposite team.
"Who's that?" I asked curiously but I already knew. The eyes and that dreamy look. It was quite obvious. The question was just for clarification.

And the game was off! Two words. Pure chaos. Hundreds of snowballs being thrown at team summer and the same amount of water balloons going the other way. I managed to duck behind some snow dunes. I quickly grabbed some snowballs near me an went on the attack. I peeked out of the side of the dunes and quickly threw a snowball and ducking back inside. This might just be a game but I am not taking any chances. I didn't even see if my snowball made it's mark. I saw people on Team Winter get out one after another.

Round 2 results

The second round was somehow even more of a bloodbath than the first. Fresh off the high of having elimated Atticus the round before, Kanae was determined to extend her hot streak and took aim at Eugenia, who was no match for the Mahoutokoro girl's impeccable aim. Eugenia wasn't going to go down without a fight, though, and managed to sock Xiomara with a water balloon in retaliation. Not one to be outdone, Xiomara's snowball in turn found it's mark, taking poor Lemmy, who couldn't seem to stay on his feet, out of the game. He careened dangerously towards Aurélie as he went down, but luckily the Parisian girl managed to stay upright.

On the less successful end of the spectrum, Cass would attempt to throw a snowball at Lorelai and miss. Lorelai in turn threw a water balloon at Ariam, which was easily caught by the Chilean girl. Hopefully this winter-hater would enjoy her brief moment of summer water balloon fun. She aimed her prize at Eugenia, who was far too busy getting hit by Kanae to do Ariam this one solid.

It's no wonder that, in all this chaos, Lemmy's own throw manages to go so far awry. Perhaps it was getting hit with a snowball, perhaps it war the near collision with a pretty girl, or perhaps it was just his own poor aim, but rather than his original target of Xiomara, his water balloon went wildly off course, dousing poor Sage, the referee for Team Winter, instead. Bex, once again in her little lifeguard outfit, blew her whistle.

"Foul on the ref, automatic red card. Lemmy, you're out of the game. Same goes for Eugenia and Xiomara, though you can both go with honour. If any of you even think of hitting me with a snowball, then a lot worse than getting kicked from the game is gonna happen to you."

Meanwhile, both Andrew and Aston targeted each other with the same fastball gambit, managing to simeultaneously pelt the other with their respective water balloon and snowball. Had they planned this in advance? One could be forgiven for thinking it looked perfectly executed, had it not removed the both of them from the game.

Greta, who was, though inarguably exceptionally sweet and kind, was a veritable force to be reckoned with, and would also target Aston with a water balloon, leaving him to end up as one particularly soggy boy. Mellani would unfortunately be caught in his path as he went down, ended up both dazed and wet. AJ would take vengeance for team winter though, just narrowly managing to take the crafty girl out of commission. Rose would follow-up with an assassination attempt on AJ of her own, but wsould be unable to deliver the payload.

To add insult to injury, one final attempt on Aston would be made by Oonagh, but unlike the other two, this one wouldn't quite hit its mark. Sorry Oonagh, I guess Aston won't end up wet and covered in sand. Better luck next time?

What a brave little thing Septimus was, a David going after his Goliath of choice, the duck-enthusiast seventh year, Cyrus. While it was all for naught, and his water balloon went very wide of his target, it's hard to argue that bravery isn't its own reward. Cyrus, meanwhile, would have much better luck, and managed to quite tacticaly remove Sara from the match, a player whose rather terrible presence had been causing quite the headache for any dice-rolling gods who may have been watching over them all.

Sara would attempt to make his last stand and take Everett down with him, but his aim just wasn't quite good enough. Everett, who may have scarcely noticed Sara's attempt at all, was setting his own sights on a rather cheap target, a little baby second year and slytherin duelling captain, Pyxis. Pyxis didn't stand a chance against the American sixth year, and so too he fell. To add insult to injury, Acacia had also locked onto Pyxis as a viable target, and so the poor guy ended up pelted with two snowballs at once.

Finally, and perhaps anticlimactically, Jamie would throw a snowball at Natalie, without any success. Across the court, the remaining players would be able to watch as winter continued it assault onto the summer side, with snowflakes beginning to fall in earnest onto to the formerly warm beach sand.

Before the next round could commence, Bex blew her whistle to allow Natalie, Giselle, Charisse, and Mellani to be removed from the court to be checked over for heat and cold sickness, respectively. Once they were safely out of the line of fire, she blew her whistle once more, returning the game to play.

Rules:
1. All ic and ooc rules apply to this event, and all posts must be at least 200 words.
2. The deadline to post is 7 days (168 hours) after the most recent moderation post.
3. All actions must be owled to your respective team's moderator (@Sage Willows for Team Winter and @Rebecca Lark for Team Summer) by the deadline. Your action should be stated clearly, such as "throwing a water balloon from behind a sand dune". Actions may be submitted individually, in small groups, or as a whole team. Please refer to the "Game Mechanics" reducio below for available actions.
4. All stats and abilities MUST be listed in every single post. For iNPC players, a link to your iNPC's ency must also be included.
5. The game operates similar to dodgeball: if you are hit with a snowball or water balloon (i.e., you fail your accuracy vs. evasion roll) you are out of the game, and the goal of the game is to eliminate the opposing team and be the last team standing. A spectator thread will be posted, and players that have been knocked out of the game are welcome to join the spectators for the remainder of the event.
6. Working together as a team and strategizing is encouraged but in no way required. Collaborating with your team is NOT cheating.
7. At any time during your post, you may take a "free action" to duck behind a dune and in character strategize and relay information to your team. Unless you are taking the Throw Projectile action, however, you MUST step out from behind the dune by the conclusion of your post.
8. Any player who misses 2 posts will be considered out of the game. In character, your character suffers "heat/cold sickness" and is sent to the nurse.

Game Mechanics:

1. Throw projectile (water balloons/snowballs): basic accuracy vs. evasion. If accuracy roll is higher than opponents evasion roll, and no counter-action was taken, the projectile hits, and the opponent is out of the game.

• Bonus action - Trench Warfare: When a player is performing the Throw Projectile action, they may opt to duck down behind a sand dune or snow dune, depending on their team, and take their action from there. Throwing a projectile from behind a dune results in a -3 to accuracy, but a plus +4 to evasion.

On an accuracy critical failure, t!choose will be used to select one of the following outcomes: a) you manage to hit yourself, and are out of the game; b) you manage to hit one of the referees, and are out of the game (and we're probably mad at you ic); c) you accidently target a random teammate, and an accuracy vs. evasion roll against them will be performed. If another crit fail is rolled for accuracy in this check, it will be disregarded, and no new target will be assigned.

On an evasion critical failure, a random team member will be knocked into, and a contested strength roll will be performed. If the team member fails the strength roll, they will be knocked prone, and suffer a -5 to evasion in the following round. They may get up as a free action.

2. Catch: If a player believes that they will be targeted, they can opt to try and catch the projectile thrown at them, giving them a +5 to evasion. The roll will still be accuracy vs evasion. If the catching party's evasion is higher than the throwing party's accuracy, then the projectile is caught. The catching party will them throw the caught projectile at a target, rolling with disadvantage. If a priority target is not specified in the player's submitted action, a random enemy target will be selected.
3. Fastball: Player makes a DC 15 strength roll. If successful, they gain a +5 to accuracy. If unsuccessful, the player suffers a -2 to accuracy. After the outcome of the strength check, the "throwing projectile" accuracy vs. evasion roll will be performed with the appropriate modifiers. Players performing the fastball action will always suffer a -2 to evasion, unless they roll a critical success.
4. Cast spell (FOUL): Standard duelling rules apply to all spells, and only spells from the duelling playbook may be used. If you are caught casting a spell, this is considered a foul, and you are automatically ejected from the game. In addition to the standard duelling rules required by each individual spell, a DC 15 wisdom roll must be passed in order to avoid being caught. Foulplay may be used. Any spell that lasts for more than one round (such as Metelojinx) will require an additional wisdom roll each round. The wisdom DC will increase +2 each round. **Only non-damaging spells are permitted in Battle of the Seasons. If you submit a damaging spell as your action, we will ask you to change it. Otherwise, your action is null and void.**
5. Bodyblock: A player may choose to step in and sacrifice themself for another player that they suspect will be targeted. The player will make a DC 12 strength roll to see if they can successfully push the player they are defending out of the line of fire. If successful, they automatically become the target of the attack, and will roll evasion at -2 AND disadvantage.

French English Thoughts

As soon as the snowball had left her hand Jamie knew that it was a horrible throw, her weight was of balance due to the fact that she was diving for one of the snow banks and she wasn't surprised to see it sail past her target. Although she was happy to see that her target was out of the game either way, the reason didn't really matter all that mattered was the fact that Jamie was one step closer to winning.

Looking around at the remaining players she started to look for her next victim target, hoping to find someone that she could get a good shot at. The game was started to get a bit more difficult with a lot of the people who were easiest to hit already out and the remaining students seemingly older. Wondering if maybe she should do something defensive to prevent herself from being targeted, or if she was targeted to prevent herself from being hit, she started going over some strategies trying to get the best one.

Having thought out multiple scenarios she settled on one action, and started to prepare. Hoping that it would all work out, and knowing that she wouldn't forgive herself if she wasn't at least in the top 5, preferably of course the winner, but even Jamie knew that there were a lot of people better purely due to their age.

July 24th Outfit

What was with Drew and these sunglasses? It was almost an obsession how much he depended on these sunglasses to win the game. Rose rolled her eyes at him as he said they both hit probably because of the sunglasses. They could not be all that. And it was funny, because moments later, he was hit himself, even though he was wearing his sunglasses. Both him and some kid she vaguely recognized threw as fast as they could at each other at the same time, and miraculously, both hit.

Rose found AJ- a kid in her house and year, and aimed the water balloon at him. She figured that the younger kids were probably going to be targeted more, and they didn't need more people aiming for them. Unfortunately, he was able to dodge. Rose took a look around at the end of the round- their numbers were definitely dwindling in comparison to the other side. Would they be able to beat the other team as the underdogs?

Right now, at least, Rose had to focus on just staying in the game. If she could do that, then she could help out her team. But she certainly wasn't as competitive as Drew, and getting out of the game wasn't a huge deal. It was just a game.

The redhead steadied herself, ready for the next round of projectiles.

Lemmy and Xiomara exchanged their taunts as the chaos of the game continued to swirl around them. However, as cute as the friendly rivalry was, the pair were now rearmed and the battle was to commence once more. This would not end until either he was covered in snow or her drenched by his water balloon. Many braves souls had shown up today, but few would leave the field with dry clothes. May the best person win.

The silly smile slipped away from Lemmy's face as he took aim again. Last round had been a fluke. Simply the nerves and excitement getting the best of him, but noe he took deadly aim. His little arm cocked back and he mustered all the strength he had. However, just before his release a wave of chills ran up the boys spine. Was he afraid? Did his new friend Xiomara instill such dread in him? Unbeknownst to him it was just a terrible aura oozing off of a nearby player. Some wild magic he was not accustomed to, but it mattered little as he was soon blasted by a snowball.

"Oh! Do forgive me!" Lemmy pleaded with Aurelie though his little frame barely made her budge. A sudden whistle blow made him spin on the spot as heard his name shouted by the referee. His long finger pointed to his chest as if to say "who me?" and his cheeks flushed red as he realized it was he who had splattered the ref with a water balloon. A red card?! Little Lemmy was ejected? He would not even fall honorably next to his comrades? The embarrassment soon turned to amusement as his tiny legs scurried off the field while he failed miserably to contain the fit of giggles that escaped his lips.

Aurélie looked around, just slightly insulted that no one had bothered targeting her. I mean, she was a water-balloon-throwing-machine, she was so good. And did no one realise that? Was that why they'd neglected throwing at her? Okay, never mind, maybe she was a bit more than just slightly insulted, but still. She was great at throwing, and she'd show them all in this next round.

While she hadn't been targeted, she had gotten bumped into by a certain boy. The French girl, who was usually nice about such things, and might've struck up a conversation with him had they not been in the middle of a game, just glared at him. The boy could've ruined her chances of catching a projectile being thrown at her!

This last round had been a bit savage, with people throwing multiple projectiles at a single person and trying to get a person out. Though she was insulted, Aurélie knew that she was lucky not to have been targeted and lucky to still be in the game. She darted behind another mound of sand, keeping herself under its protection before stopping to turn around and check her surroundings.

According to her quick survey, EmmaLee wasn't out yet, still in the game. She might've even thrown a shot, though the French girl hadn't been paying enough attention to her friend to know for sure. She ran closer to EmmaLee so that they were in around the same area before turning back towards the Winter players.

They had the advantage with more players left in the game, but the Summer side had amazing players, and there was still a chance that they could win. The French girl dropped into her practised duelling ready stance sans the wand. She was ready for this next round.

Team Summer

This battle, from the get go, was definitely not going as expected. Miles suited up for the wrong team and Stephen's first throw had the accuracy of a drunk clown trying to hit the broad side of a circus elephant, and missing spectacularly. Even EmmaLee had missed her target, and she was a duellist! As he quickly surveyed the battlefield, it appeared Team Summer was getting their toasty tootsies handed to them on silvery snowballs.

Hmmmmmmmm.

He decided to try something different this round and had elected to try and catch any incoming snowballs tossed in his direction, but nothing actually sailed in his direction. As he peeked around the dune he had sheltered behind after missing Miles by miles, he smiled at the flurry of snowballs and water balloons passing each other at varying speeds and arc trajectories. He was momentarily too caught up in hoping to see some mid-air collisions to register that he had not factored into this game in any meaningful way whatsoever. But then matters went from bad to worse when their little group within a group lost Sara.

Stephen looked over to EmmaLee to see if she was even aware Sara was out at this point, but she was still crouched behind her portion of the sand dune, apparently hoping to play catch as well. Her eyes were fixed on the other side, and he got tickled watching her head move as it followed snowballs that were not zinged in her direction. Like Stephen, it would seem, she too was apparently on no one's game card.

Were they cleverly hidden or cavalierly ignored? That was the question silently running through his mind, but it didn't really matter because they were still together - for the moment anyway.

Then he decided it did matter. The obvious answer, of course, was that they both had to have been cleverly hidden. Being cavalierly ignored was simply inconceivable.

Okay Okay Okay. This game was a bit odd so far. Why was practically no one going for her? Or did she have such an evasion that she managed to evade a throw she didn’t notice? Irina stood there ready to catch any snowball thrown at her; she had loads of experience from trying to do that back at Russia with her younger siblings. But for some reason, there was no projectile coming hurtling towards her. Did they plan to leave her until next round or something p? Or was she too lucky? Who knows?

Certainly not her.

With no snowball going towards her (or a water balloon, for that matter) she watched as the blood bath of an event went on. So many people were hit this round, she could only wince each time a team mate got hit. Additionally, one little kid (Lemmy) hit the referee, the team winter one though, and had to leave the game. Another mistake Iriliya must avoid. Awesome.

They were down in players. Team Summer was left with just 8, the Winter (aka lucky kids), having 12. Great. Another factor that can make them lose. Glancing at all of her remaining allies, she could do nothing but sigh. Being competitive, losing this game was not really an option. What of snowballs and water balloons, this was more like a game of accuracy. And evasion. A duel with projectiles, not wands. She was a duellist. She had some knowledge she should use. Why not?
