Abbey sat in her seat listening interested to what Curtis had to say about the solar system and all the other galaxy stuff. When she had heard Nova’s name she had not at all been thinking about a galaxy, but it was cool if that was what she was named after.
She watched as Curtis took a seat and then Nova not so long after. Nova sat in the seat next to her and she smiled at her when she sat down. Abbey was thinking about what to answer Cutis and she could see that Nova was about to answer when a boy appeared by the door of their compartment. “Another student? How many is there still looking for a seat?!” she thought when she noticed him. "It's the most amazing place on Earth! There's the Great Hall, the common rooms! What House would you like to be in? I'm going to be in Gryffindor! Mind if I squeeze in?" the boy had said a lot and asked a lot of questions at once after Abbey’s opinion, so she was happy she wasn’t the first to answer the boy. "Sure, I mean, why not? Uh..." Abbey noticed that Nova was hesitating, but it was understandable. She also noticed the little space they had left in the compartment. Abbey watched Nova stand up and was planning to do the same before she was about to say something. "You'd need to help us with that though or you won't be able to get in." abbey looked down at all the trunks on the floor and nodded. Nova was right, there was no way there would be enough space for one more if all their trunks were on the floor spread around. “I can help Gates get his luggage up on the shelf and he can help me if that’s okey, and then you can help…” Abbey paused realising the boy hadn’t introduced himself. “What’s your name?” she asked looking at the boy waiting for him to answer.

"My name is Jerry Brown! How are you?" Jerry looks around the nearly full compartment, the girl who asked him his name was looking quite flustered, there was an excitable boy who seemed to share his excitement who quickly responded, "Woah! Brilliant! I don't know what Gryffindor is yet though!"
There was a guy who seemed to be sleeping in the corner and also another girl in the corner who had stood up and looked sulky for some reason quickly smiled and said "Sure, I mean, why not?" and then added "You'd need to help us with that though or you won't be able to get in." She helped him get his trunk onto the railings which were unusually high, after that he tried to go to the other end of the compartment because it was quite full, and he didn't want to take up any more room than what he had to and then he tripped over someone's foot.
The excitable guy helped him up and he offered a seat next to him. Jerry managed to scoot in between the guy who quickly introduced himself as Gates and shook his hand vigorously and the guy who was sleeping. Jerry beamed at the people around the compartment and asked "What are all your guy's names?"

Together, they managed to hoist their luggage onto the compartment shelf, their combined effort turning what might have been a struggle into an easy task. Novalie felt a sense of relief as the weight of her suitcase left her hands and a small surge of camaraderie warmed her as they all settled back into their seats.
The boy who had recently joined their little group looked around and asked, "So, what are your names?"
"I'm Nova.", she responded with a bright smile. Her curiosity immediately flared as she recalled something he'd mentioned earlier.
"So, what is this Gryffindor? Is it like… a real house? What can you do there?"
Her question hung in the air, her green eyes wide with genuine interest. To Novalie, the word "Gryffindor" sounded like something out of a storybook, mysterious and full of promise. She had no idea what it meant, only that it seemed important, the way Jerry had spoken about it. The way he talked made it seem like he’d already been to the school- or maybe he had siblings who had told him all about it.
As she waited for his answer, Novalie glanced over at Abbey and Solar- she had already decided that Curtis would be “Solar” to her from now on - and couldn’t help but wonder if they knew more than she did. At least she wasn’t alone in her confusion about this Gryffindor thing- Solar had already admitted that he didn’t know what it was either. But maybe… just maybe, he knew something else. Her curiosity was now at its peak, and the anticipation made her start to rock back and forth in her seat, unable to contain her eagerness to learn more.

Abbey smiled at the boy when he introduced himself. “Nice to meet you Jerry Brown.” she then helped the others get their trunks up on the shelves. It was a hard task, but they all managed to do it with a little help from each other.
All the luggage was on the compartment shelves now and everyone was sitting in their seats. Abbey next to Novalie on one side and Gates, James and Jerry next to each other on the opposite one. James seemed to be asleep which Abbey found a bit weird this early on the train ride, but at the same time it was understandable because of all the new stuff ever first year got to discover.
"I'm Nova." Nova said with a bright smile. Abbey hadn’t introduced herself even though she probably could have done it before they had began putting the luggage away. “Im Abbey Thompson” she smiled and said in a friendly tone. "So, what is this Gryffindor? Is it like… a real house? What can you do there?" Nova asked Jerry. Abbey quickly responded before Jerry could say anything. She didn’t want to steal his question, but she was excited that she could answer and actually knew what the house Gryffindor was. “I know what Gryffindor is.” she answered sounding excited about their conversation topic.

"I'm doing fine Jerry! Thanks for askin!" He gladly takes the seat next to Jerry, it is all very exciting, the first few wizards and witches he met are actually quite nice! Well, if they weren't, he wouldn't be able to tell anyway.

"Gryffindor?? A house??" He gasps, not really quite putting it quite together as Nova has, "How did you know you're in Gryffindor already?? Do you know what house I'm in?" Though it should be known that he wouldn't know what colour- nor what the name would mean to him even if he knew what house he was in."Everyone here IS a first year right?" Honestly, he wouldn't be able to tell between an 13 year old and an 11 year old, though thinking that atleast two of them didn't successfully guess what Gryffindor is might say a bit to him- whatever information he can soak in, though as of now, his attention is turned to Abbey..
This is one of the few times Curtis gets to sit next to these new people. His eyes gleamed happily as he await Abbey's explanation."Oh! Do tell!! How do you know about it too?? I might've missed a brochure somewhere...." Not that he saw any brochure on his way here.

"Gryffindor?? A house??" Gates asks with a gasp, "How did you know you're in Gryffindor already?? Do you know what house I'm in? Everyone here IS a first year right?" he continues.
Hm, Jerry thinks, Gates must be muggle born if he doesn't know much about the Houses. Not that Jerry had anything against muggle borns of course.
Just then Abbey quickly responded to Nova's question about Gryffindor. Jerry thought he should feel mad, but he was just glad there was someone else he could ask questions if needed.
He decided to answer Gates's question.
"Well, you see Houses are like groups you get into based off of your attributes. Gryffindor is the best one in my opinion and my mum was in it. Gryffindor's attributes are being brave, courageous, and bold, so my mum was easily in it. Then there is Hufflepuff where people are loyal and hardworking, there is Slytherin which in my opinion is the worst house because Slytherins hate on muggleborns but their attributes are being cunning and ambitious. You'll probably be in Ravenclaw though, their attributes are being really smart and stuff, and yeah, I'm a first year but my mum told me everything about Hogwarts" Jerry finished. Gates asked a lot of question which Jerry though was awesome.
"Hey guys what House do you want to be in?" He asks the whole entire compartment.

“I know what Gryffindor is.” Abbey said.
Novalie turned to Abbey, her eyes wide with excitement. She nodded eagerly at Solar, practically agreeing with him to make Abbey tell more. But when Jerry started to explain instead, Novalie leaned in, hanging onto every word as if they were secrets being revealed just for them!
As Jerry spoke, Novalie’s excitement grew. She could already picture herself in the house of Gryffindor, surrounded by students who were brave and bold just like she was! The thought sent a thrill through her and she felt a sense of belonging she hadn’t realized she was longing for.
Not knowing that the decision wasn’t only hers to make, Novalie’s smile widened with pure determination as she declared, “I’m going to be a Gryffindor, too! I’m all about bravery and boldness! It’ll fit me just right!”
The certainty in her voice was unshakeable, she could already feel the pride swelling in her chest at the thought of it.
Gryffindor sounded perfect! And with Jerry’s enthusiasm fueling her own, she was convinced it had to actually be the best house. She turned to the other students in the compartment, her eyes now slightly shifting color from a dark green to a slightly lighter one.
“Let’s all try to join the same house! What do you think?”, she asked, her voice filled with hope.

"Oh! Do tell!! How do you know about it too?? I might've missed a brochure somewhere...." Curtis asked Abbey. Abbey was about to explain, but then Jerry did before her. She didn’t mind because when she had said she knew what Gryffindor was she didn’t plan on explaining it since it seemed like Jerry wanted to be the one doing that. Jerry began explaining to everyone in the compartment what the different houses was and what they meant. Abbey thought he explained it well, even though she didn’t agree that every Slytherin was hateful people. Her best friend was a Slytherin and she didn’t hate muggleborns at all. After Jerry had explained he asked everyone, "Hey guys what House do you want to be in?"
Nova answered first, “I’m going to be a Gryffindor, too! I’m all about bravery and boldness! It’ll fit me just right!” Abbey could see how proud Nova was telling us and she hoped for Nova that she would end up in Gryffindor as she wished. "I think I’m going to be in Hufflepuff just like my dad was when he went to Hogwarts." Abbey felt like she would fit best into the Hufflepuff house. She was a loyal and kind person just like the rest of the Hufflepuff students.
“Let’s all try to join the same house! What do you think?” Abbey thought about it and then she waited for someone else to answer before her. She thought it would be nice to be in the same house as her new friends, but didn’t think she would end up being a gryffindor like Jerry and Nova thought.

"Of course!!" replied Jerry, "but if we don't get in the same house, we'll still be friends, right?"
Suddenly Jerry blushed, he certainly considered these new people his friends, but he wasn't sure if they considered him as a friend. Back at home in Carryduff, Jerry would try to be friends with the other local children, but he would always be called weird and shunted to the side and left out. He especially wanted friends now because he felt like Hogwarts would be loads of more fun if he had a buddy or two to hang out with.
Again, these people may not want to be his friend, after all he did barge into their already crowded compartment unannounced...
As his mind wandered into these doubtful thoughts, his deep brown eyes drifted to Nova and he blushed once again, if he had to choose to hang out with one person, it would be Nova. In the short time he had known her, he already felt himself starting to like her.
"You mustn't tell her though" Jerry thought, he felt at the most Nova just tolerated him.
"Of course!!" replied Jerry, "but if we don't get in the same house, we'll still be friends, right?"

Novalie glanced around, fully expecting everyone to agree with her. When Jerry did, her grin grew even wider, and her eyes brightened, their color shifting due to her excitement triggering her Metamorphmagus ability.
“Yes! I can’t wait!”, she exclaimed.
But then a thought came to her mind - hadn’t Abbey just mentioned wanting to join Hufflepuff?
Oh.. Her plan might not work out after all.
But maybe... she could change her opinion on that. Not that there was anything wrong with Hufflepuff, Gryffindor just sounded more exciting!
“Are you sure?”, she asked, turning to Abbey with a hopeful look, “I mean… Hufflepuff is great, I'm sure! But Gryffindor sounds really amazing! Imagine having adventures every day!”
Novalie’s enthusiasm was fueled by her limited knowledge of Hogwarts, painting a wildly unrealistic picture of the House being on it's toes everyday.
“You can be loyal and hardworking in Gryffindor, too, I believe!”
Leaning back in her seat, she nodded in agreement with Jerry’s reassurance.
“Yeah, we can still all be friends, no matter what.”, she added confidently.
Her thoughts then wandered to the other houses and she tilted her head, puzzled.
So, Slytherins didn’t like Muggle-borns? What were Muggle-borns, exactly? Some kind of bad people?
She'd have to ask the others about it soon!
