Astra Norrick ∆ Third Year ∆ House Slytherin

Both born in St. Mungo's Hospital and split by two years, the siblings were reared with one foot in the magical world and the other out. Morella, a muggle-born witch, made sure her children were not so immersed in the world of their father, from a prolific and historic wizard-born family, that they were unable to function outside of it. Roderick and Astra therefore led fairly normal lives to the viewpoint of non-magic society, going to primary school and participating in sports such as football and basketball.

Being an Auror of much skill, Hyperion was away from home for a large portion of Astra's childhood. His absence, coupled with the unruly and disobedient nature both Roderick and Astra shared put much stress on Morella. However, Hyperion's eldest sister and her family were always nearby. Astra Norrick Lerian, for whom our own Astra is named, was like a second mother to the children, and her own brood like elder siblings. Her closeness gave Astra and her brother an initiation into the more magical side of their heritage. Astra was especially attentive to her aunt's casual use of magic, soaking in the exposure with enthusiasm. Not only did they spend much time in the magical world via relatives, they were also exposed to a great many Muggle things by their maternal grandfather,
Elijah Rogers.

The aforementioned unruly and disobedient nature of Astra Norrick was certainly something she got honest, a strong trend of this being present in the Norrick family and even in Elijah. From these influences seemed to come her mischievous and cheeky nature. Her creativity seems to know no bounds, least of all in the departments of problem-solving and pranking schemes. Compiled with a wit and affinity for learning that certainly came from her mother, the young girl is certainly a force to be reckoned with intellectually. However, with a temper to match her fiery red locks, she truly is a tempest when the coals of her fury are stirred. Determination and ambition to be like the strong, independent wixen of her family burdens her psyche incredibly. She's also wont to get lost in her own head even in the most dire of circumstances, a trait she loathes with all the fire in her. Keen mind, fierce will, creativity and recklessness makes for an interesting but dangerous combination in this viper.

☆ first instance of magic ☆

While Astra may be little shy of a bull in a china shop, she's by no means stupid nor without grace. Her first instance of magic came at seven years old, while she and Roderick were, as most siblings are prone to do, having a tussle. Left unsupervised for not even fifteen minutes, the children were bored of sitting in the house awaiting their mother's return, and so decided a game of tag was in order. Tag soon turned into an all out brawl, and as Astra ducked a grab, Roderick's head made good friends with the corner of the dining table, and Morella's most precious, most favorite teacup made a quick exodus from the stained wood towards the vinyl flooring. Roderick, passed out and of no good use, would have been near enough to grab the thing, and as it was Astra would never make it in time to save the precious dish. She dove, her life flashing before her eyes- It was floating.

The teacup hovered shakily in midair as Astra's wide blue eyes were fixed on it, desperate and shocked. She didn't dare move for the remaining five minutes they were home alone. Morella entered the house to the sight of her son slowly coming to and bleeding and her daughter performing rescue magic. Needless to say, it was an odd evening in the Norrick house, admonishment punctuated by elation and pride at Astra's good showing.
