After I blatched the other boy, I zoomed ahead looking for ways I could help the team. I saw that another wave of stones were through at Cyrus and all of them finding their mark. One of my teammates, Elias was it, tried to fire some spell at one of the attackers but all that came out of his wand was white smoke signifying that he had botched whatever spell he was trying to cast. I followed his lead and flew alongside and rammed into the attacker with force. I looked behind and saw her tumbling into the snow. Yeah! That's what you get!

I continued to fly at constant speed and by now I couldn't see where the two students that had flown ahead. I couldn't even see their silhouette anymore. Three racers from the other team were behind me. I had Elias for company, we were quite close to each other on the track. Things were looking good for our team until up ahead Cyrus was knocked unconscious when he crashed into the wall of a passageway. It seemed that the stones had taken a toll on the boy. Okay, down to three teammates. At least three opponents were behind us. That was a good thing right?

Whatever happened behind her, Miharu doesn’t want to know. If she did look back, she would’ve seen how their opponents had just slaughtered one of their teammates with a bunch of rocks, sending him into a critical state with all those hits and their opponents can hit hard, like really hard. If that was her, she wouldn’t survive for another round. It wasn’t the rocks that got to Cyrus though, it was a spell.

The chaos behind her aside, Haru has other things to put her attention on. No, it’s not the guy that’s zooming along with her, having the same thought of not joining the fray of attacks behind them. She could’ve attacked him instead but not like she can do much. She’s weak physically, being a total bookworm and an introvert but surprisingly enough, she is strong, stamina wise. Guess those Quidditch training are paying off, one way or another. Sadly, the sudden bright light was kind of blinding, making it hard to fly properly for a while.

She’ll just have to bear it and continue on despite the struggle. She can’t just wait for her vision to recover, she has to keep going until she reaches that finish line.

The attacks began to cool down by now, likely due to the fact people were remembering this was a race, not a brawl. Even if you could knock all of your opponents off their brooms, that wouldn't be considered a win by default like in Quidditch.

Now that the thought popped up, Alyssea wasn't even sure if a forfeit system existed in racing. Most racers were hard-headed and stubborn, meaning they'd pull through to the finish regardless of the situation as long as it meant they could snatch a win. It was both a good and bad thing, depending on your outlook.

For now, Alyssea took the moment of quiet, not forgetting to gasp when one more racer hit the ground.

By this point, there was a clear divide between various members. People were still recovering from their falls; others were making slow progress across the track. But if worse comes to worst, it was going to be hard if their frontrunners needed support.

Whenever people managed to catch up to Alphonse and Miharu, they would quickly be left in the dust (snow?) as the two zoomed on. They hadn't done anything but fly, which Alyssea could respect. Eventually, it would boil down to who's the fastest, or the dirtiest player by means of blatching and cheating. Whichever came first. Not that blatching was a foul by broom racing standards (a sentiment Quidditch wouldn't share, unfortunately), but it was unsportsmanlike.

Truly, it was hard to tell who would make it to the finish line. It was well within a few metres of distance by now and, of all the racers, less than half made it to the half-way point. Alyssea was mentally prepared for the craziest finale that was about to go down.

Scrambling to her feet, Chiaki clutched a hold of her broom as she remounted it, glaring ahead at the others who had begun to overtake her. She was at least pleased to see her ally knock off their broom the person who had knocked herself off her own, so vengeance wouldn't be needed there. Her anger even allowed her to catch a spell being cast her way, which she easily managed to evade, and she even found herself scoffing at the futile attempt. God, broom racing really did bring out the worst in her.

She could only hope that, for her team's sake, that a couple of her other teammates had managed to push their way forwards on the track to give them the win. She hated being so far back that she was completely useless at this point, but if her team could get the win then that was at least something she could consider as a win for herself. No longer able to see them, she could only hope that it was a good sign.

Eyes narrowed and hands tightly gripped on her broom, she could feel herself focus in. At this point, it was more of a personal battle to finish this race. She had to do it, if only for herself.

At a certain point, a victory-minded man must take a reasonable look at his circumstances and his odds, and make whatever call would edge him towards success, even if it wasn't his most preferred course of action. Judas knew he likely wasn't going to be able to out fly the others at this point; he lacked both the broom handling experience and the necessary early-game edge to be able to accomplish such a feat. But broom racing was a team sport, so he'd assist his team as best as he could from where he was stationed at the back of the pack.

Was it particularly sportsmanlike behavior to rush the nearest opposing flyer and attempt to bodily remove him from his broom? Perhaps not, but he'd never claimed to be particularly concerned with good race ethics in the first place. What it was, however, was effective, and he gave a cheerful little salute towards the unfamiliar boy he'd downed. In English, he called out, "No hard feelings, I hope?"

True, it was a hit on his very large ego that he would almost certainly not be the one to cross the finish line today, but tipping the scales as much as he could was just going to have to be a suitable consolation prize.

I aimed my wand carefully at the boy who had chucked the stones at Cyrus.
"Verdimillious." I yelled confidently over the wind.
Green sparks emitted from the tip of my wand and flew towards the boy. Unfortunately he managed to just evade it. That was inches away from hitting the target.

More bad news, I was too focused on casting the spell. I was taken by surprise when I flew into a cloud of fog coughing and wheezing. I didn't notice the guy beside me until it was too late. He collided into me at full force. I tumbled into the snow below knocking the wind out of me. Now that's just karma. Karma is a real bitch. I blatch two of their racers and they blatch me. All's fair in love and war right?
I groaned and lied down on the soft snow. This position feels comfortable. Much more comfortable than up there. Maybe I can take a nap here?
"No hard feelings, I hope?" called out my attacker.
Not sure if that was insult to humiliate me or was a sign of respect.
Surprisingly, I didn't see any other racers fly by me. Were they all that far behind? I stood up shakily, stumbling around my crash site. Now where is my broom?

Thankfully the rain of spells had started to cool down now, and none of it was targeted at them. One of their teammates however, was knocked off his broomstick a while behind them in the race. They were to far away to help, and anyway the best thing they could do was help win this race for him. Squinting their eyes in the light, they continued to fly as fast they reasonably could without crashing into to many things.

The two racers leading the pack were far up ahead of Cass, and they silently cheered for whichever one was on their team. They couldn't quite see faces from where they were, but whichever blob was on their team was going to win. Probably. Or at least come very close to it. Either way, they thought it had been a decent first race so far. They may not have hit any of their targets but they weren't at the back of the pack lying in the snow or something. And they had only hit a few walls! They were sure it was possible to hit more walls than they had. Hopefully there wasn't many more for them to dodge, because it sure was a thing that they needed practice in.

	If there was a different definition to "sportsmanlike" than "winning", Madhup didn't know it. The sizzle of Alejandro's Verdimillious was heard before it hit, and the Durmstrang bully barrel-rolled out of its path, grumbling a swear he'd heard his Russian teammates hurl at Quid opponents. He glanced back with a hard squint in time to see Judas (@Rebecca Lark) blatch his would-be assailant, eliciting a nasty cackle as the kid plummeted. Mad whooped his praises, then stretched an arm back to make a grabbing motion at Briar (@Ulysses Drake), urging "Here! Reach to me!" But the gap between them was wider than he'd calculated, and to reach the flyer for a toss maneuver would mean to give up valuable speed. Gunmetal green eyes danced over the others in the air, gauging their positions, trying to formulate a strategy with unfamiliar materials. In Quidditch, knocking out key players with brute force could guarantee an easy win. It was a tactic Durmstrang had become notorious for. Racing, he was coming to realize, wasn't so simple.

Special Action: Enganação. This literally means "cheat" and is a basically the art of sleight of hand for Brazilian Quiddich players. Spell casting just wasn't his best ability, but it was the only thing he could think to do as he watched the girl nearby climb into her broom again. He was frozen in place, unmoving with his concentration.

For a moment, hope! It surged through him as his words came out right, as he felt the tug from his wand, as he saw the light, as he aimed the magic wooden stick at her- and then she evaded it with ease.

Ok, who decided to be rude? Who pissed off whatever being was rolling the dice in his name?

Elias was nervous to go onward. Sure, lots of people were ahead of him, more than were behind him, but he didn't know what lay ahead in the track. For all he knew, everyone got knocked out just a few hundred feet later and he was flying towards inevitable doom. Maybe he was flying towards something that would damage the broom, and he'd have that scary redhead after him!

His fingers tightened their grip around the broomstick. This was about trying something new, stepping out of his comfort zone, and so far he wasn't sure he liked this whole racing thing.

Let's just get it over with.

No spells, no rocks, she was safe from any attacks for now. She was ahead, still along with one of their attackers. It was a miracle that he didn’t even think of trying to slow her down but perhaps she should take that as an opportunity to continue gaining more distance. She could hear the sounds of spells being cast but she couldn’t quite hear what spells those are and she can’t afford looking back as always.

More narrow passageways up ahead and Miharu can’t let herself hit those walls again. First of all, it hurts and second, she’d rather not show up back in their tent full of scratches. Sure, she could just get them treated and considering how skilled the healers are, those scratches would be gone in no time but really, she doesn’t think those are worth getting looked at by the healers. It’s better to save their healing for those who are badly injured. Hopefully, that won’t be her after all of these.

In any case, she maintained her focus, eyes on the track and made it through those narrow paths without any trouble at all. What got her worried though was when the wind began to blow hard. Haru knows how weak her physical strength is so she did her best to hold on to her broom as tight as she could while praying silently she wouldn’t fall off.

She didn’t. A miracle. She is still in this race.
