Tell Me More
july 18th, 2024 thursday, afternoonwc: 350 interacting with: Casey Stone | @Emily Shephard mentioning: meow meow meowWhen his face drops, Zyair's brain relaxes. He's no stranger to fights, but the way Casey looked at him makes him wonder if he could really take on such a guy. While Zy is taller, he definitely doesn't have the muscles that Casey does. He's always been more 'tall and lanky' rather than 'tall and muscly'- a shame, really. He'd like to get stronger but it's hard to work out when you live at your school for most months out of the year. Wizards are too focused on spells.
"I take it you've seen this 'deceit' firsthand, yes?"
From the little bit he's known about Casey, Zyair thinks he's a good person. In his life, though it's only been a few years, he's seen that it's often the 'good' people get dealt the poorer cards. There was probably some quote about that sentiment, though he wasn't sure if he cared enough to try and remember it proper.
He chooses his words carefully, he doesn't want to accidentally flair Casey up again. Zyair was finding himself actually enjoying the presence of his newfound American 'friend', he'd hate for his words to have an unwanted affect. Although knowing that his own intentions are pure is good enough for him, he's not the kind of person to go out of his way to upset others. That's just cruel, and it's unnecessary. It also leads to fights, usually.
"I hope you are able to conquer what ever ails you." That's a good sentence, right? It's the kind of thing Zyair would want to hear if he was feeling the way he imagines Casey is. Complicated and complex, most likely. He doesn't push Casey, he sees no reason to. Zyair really doesn't need to know anything personal.
"You really should consider doing shows, you know? Minus a slip-up or two, you're very good at performing." He tries to guide the conversation back to circus acts, not wanting to bring up the topic of 'deceit' again. Maybe it's a little bit of a selfish wish, but he'd really prefer not setting someone off at him.

"I take it you've seen this 'deceit' firsthand, yes?"
"Deceit ain't a bad word choice but I'd say it's more like Sugar-coating," Casey answered. "Ever had that feeling like something was going down but other people have tried to masquerade it as no big deal? Maybe even tried to brush their hands off of something because they're just trying to protect themselves and pretend it's nothing? I guess you could say I've got that feeling."
It certainly had been a burning sensation underneath Casey's skin since last year. Investigations into a missing person are only closed when the person is found; dead or alive, whole or in pieces. No matter how gruesome the truth may be, Casey didn't want to be hidden from it. It's his brother's life for God's sake. Even if there was a 50-50 chance that he would be living with tragedy behind Nick's disappearance, it would be worth it all to know just what the hell happened to him.
"I hope you are able to conquer what ever ails you." Zyair's voice was so soft and... Genuine. Casey didn't have the strength to deny him. A tiny spot within in had absorbed those words like a plant drinking water in the soil. It was at that point Casey was willing to try and keep common ground with him. He returned his gentleness with a conceding look.
"Makes two of us..." He packed up his equipment, shoving everything into his bag before slinging it over his shoulders.
"The day I overcome what "ails me" is the day I'll do those 30 galleon birthday parties," he said, a mild tinge of hope. If he owed anyone anything, it was his gratitude to his mother for bestowing this newfound gift to him. He passed Zyair to leave him behind, but not without lightly touching his shoulder with his knuckle, his tone harmless.
"You're a rather perceptive guy, partner. Maybe use that to see some of the darker spots of the world. Everything has colour, but that don't make 'em pretty. At least not all the time."
He continued on his way, a final "See ya" tossed over his shoulders back to him. It was a strangely calm chat, though the bitter half of Casey's being despised how easily swayed he was by a guy he only met thirty minutes ago.
And he wasn't the first to achieve that either.

Tell Me More
july 18th, 2024 thursday, afternoonwc: 400ish interacting with: Casey Stone | @Emily Shephard mentioning: scoutHis entire life, Zyair has spent a good amount of time answering the question 'why do you know more than you let on?' This interaction with Casey was just reminding him that people will always assume that you know more than you do, that there is more deceit in your heart than you're willing to let on. Though his life has only been a decade and some change, Zyair has answered all sorts of questions regarding his own capabilities.
'I'm just very perceptive, is all,' was one of his most common answers. The second would fall around with 'I'm good at recognizing faces', because that was another question he seemed to always get. The answers he provided never seemed to be enough to satisfy other folks' curiosity. They'd give him looks that were almost entirely reminisce of disbelief, and sometimes they'd scoff. (Although the only times he seemed to get such a response was with people far older than him.)
"Then I eagerly await that day."
He'd keep a box of shiny galleons under his bed until then. Hopeful as he is, he was very sure that there would come a day when he'd fork over thirty of his gold coins to his 'friend'. Perhaps by then, Casey will have learned plenty of new tricks to entertain the twins. Hopefully they would still be interested in watching some circus tricks!
Only time would tell.
As he watched Casey saunter off, Zyair found himself slinking back into the snowy corner he had started in. Initially, he had convinced himself he had no interest in conversing with the students around him, but this conversation with Casey made him think differently. Everyone at the camp had such interesting stories, secrets, mysterious surrounding them. While he was (of course) a little intrigued, it wasn't so much that he wanted to get up and start talking.
When him and Casey (and perhaps him and Scout, should their paths cross again) meet once more, he's sure that Casey will not have his mystery solved. But that was the good part about having friends, wasn't it? Maybe in the future Zyair will learn more. But if not, that's fine too. Really, he's more interested in something all together.
Would Casey ever tell him more about juggling? It'd be fun to learn.
