Bonfire Night
Mari was walking around the camp making hours to go to the night of horror stories to the campfire! She never had much desire to go to camp, only for a request (order) from her parents, that it would be good for her to go, but even so she only signed up for one activity but this, this was the perfect activity for Mari!✦✦Discourse/thoughts|@Kyra Banuelos|✦✦
Mari always loved horror stories, unlike most children who at night heard stories of princes and princesses from their parents, Mari begged that when her parents had time to read her a horror story, and, when she grew up a little more and learned to read, she had a whole bookshelf with only horror books that she made a point of reading them, So if there was one thing she expected, it was tonight (and a certain Quidditch games)
Near the time, Mari realized that she hadn't brought anything with her, so she ran to the cabin, grabbed her bag and went straight to the long-awaited place.
As soon as you arrive at the place, you look around and appreciate everything, everything was so… perfect! The huge bonfire in the middle warming the whole place, the decor, the food, s’mores; marshmallows; everything that was ideal for a night like that! Mari runs to get some s’mores and a hot chocolate, and sits by the fire, even though she knows a lot of horror stories, tonight she prefers to just listen, so she sat more or less in the second row, in a chair on the edge. of a girl with dark hair and fair skin.
Mari leans back in her chair and sighs, taking a sip of her drink, and looks at the girl next to her, noticing her attention, as does Mari “You must like it too... in fact, if you didn't like it, why who would be here?' Mari then decided to greet the girl because there was no story going on at the moment, and even though Mari wanted to stay alert, there was no harm in exchanging a few words with someone.
“Hello, I'm Mari, Mari Alves from Hogwarts. And you?” Mari asks, giving an almost non-existent smile.
"I never tried to hide the fact that it is my intention to be the best"
"-I'm not good at advice,I can offer you a sarcastic comment?"
"There is no good and evil, there is only power, and those who are too weak to achieve it"

So her mother taught her too! What a coincidence. Aston thought as Lucretcia mentioned her mother, he took a second or two to wonder if he should mention it. The tale of his mother's abandonment? Sudden departure? Whatever you call it it didn't bother Aston a lot, at least he tries not to think about it much. Ultimately he pushed those thoughts to the side and said to Lucretcia "Oh, my mother taught me too, she taught me how to sketch using only the different shades of black plain pencils offer."
Aston smiled a little at the thought of his mother, and he continued the drawing. By this point he is mostly done with the fire, or at least the main part of it and he got started on the people around it. He was surprised when Lucretcia finally turned and asked him something. Aston quickly turned to her and listened. He chuckled a little bit at the use of the word "bitch", but he apologised after she finished talking. "Sorry I didn't expect you to call yourself a bitch. To answer your question, uh this feels kinda embarrassing to say out loud, " Aston paused briefly after that part, gathering his thoughts. "Uh, you look cool, most people don't walk around wearing all black looking like they hate the world. " Catching himself, evidently too late, Aston quickly added a "Sorry, " and continued, "There's gotta be some kind of story behind it and I'm curious. Also you're an artist, like me! And above that your clothes are cool, to be honest your whole, " Not knowing what to call the combination of outfit and make up Aston just gesture to Lucretcia, keeping the smile he had the whole time, "thing, looks good. I guess my answer is just that you look interesting? Sorry if I said too much."

As the boy rambled on her hard expression softened a bit and she wasn't exactly sure how to react, this was new territory for her socially speaking. back home everyone who saw her and her vibe treated her like she was a freak. Either it because of her unnaturally pale skin, her all black style or some combination of the two. Add in the way parent's talk, oh somethings wrong with her because whatever. It's not like Being a Dhampir was something that could be openly talked about or explained easily. Let alone accepted by most people so she wasn't about to even begin to try to explain how her particular style and fashion originated from that dark place.
Hearing Aston repeat how cool he thought she was brought a little but of color to her face, mostly from embarrassment as the last time someone said she looked cool it was her mom and that woman was too supportive to ever really be trusted for an opinion. She cleared her throat and turned her head so her hair would hide her her face as she looked blankly back at her notebook, no longer even really seeing her drawing.
"I uh...just like black and darker colors. The occult and Macabre has always felt...normal to me. So I lean into it. No real story beyond that" She deflected at the end to try and avoid and further prying down that particular avenue.
"But uh...thanks. Noone has ever...said that before. " she tapped on her notebook a few times then decided she needed to get the attention of her and she pointed towards his shirt with her pencil, keeping her face down
"What does that mean? Nine inch nails? It sounds cool but is that all?

BONFIRE NIGHT
- July 17, 2024 -interacting with @Colby Vidler /// mentioning @Claudia KerrWHEN Septimus couldn't come up with a good answer to Colby's (very rational) response — "I don't need to be friends with every person I meet" — he turned to a last resort: one that was, admittedly, really immature, even for someone his age. He scoffed, crossed his arms over his chest, angled himself away from the girl, and tried his best to ignore her.
Of course, that was easier said than done, especially when Colby was still standing right in front of him. He pretended not to hear her as she went on spouting total nonsense about "yucking" her "yum." What a stupid phrase. It sounded silly and it wasn't even true. Maybe he could have been more polite about the s'more, sure, but there was a big difference between being mean to someone because they liked chocolate ice cream more than vanilla (for example) and asking someone why in the world they would willingly eat burnt food! Septimus's self-vindicating internal monologue drowned out Colby's next few words, but he was vaguely aware of her holding out the empty popcorn bag and reaching for her s'more. He made the trade — although he wasn't happy that she was getting back a mostly-intact treat and he was basically getting a piece of trash, it was a relief to have the sticky, melty thing taken out of his hands.
The next few moments passed in silence, only interrupted by the crackling of the fire and the nearby chatter of other summer campers. Septimus stomped on a few pieces of popcorn that had been scattered by his feet, ground one kernel into the dirt beneath his foot, and stared moodily into the dancing flames. He was thinking now that Colby was probably right: she didn't have to be friends with everyone, and he didn't, either. This wasn't exactly a new idea to him, but it was a bit disappointing to be reminded of it so early in the summer. Septimus didn't have any friends at all — at least, no friends that could come with him to Hogwarts in September. And although he knew he wasn't the only first year, it seemed like other people were getting along like it was nothing. He thought about two of the kids from his tent, Xiomara and Nate, and how they'd bonded over their pet fish. If they were best friends by Christmas, Septimus wouldn't be surprised. Why couldn't he meet his best friend that fast? It didn't have to be Colby (and he imagined that it probably wouldn't be). But he hoped that he could come home from summer camp and tell William and his parents about someone.
And maybe he'd ought to be a little nicer, too, in that case. It probably wouldn't hurt.
Septimus wasn't expecting Colby to apologize, so it quickly brought his focus right back to her when she did. He listened to her offer to get him some more popcorn, even though she thought it was a bad idea. According to her, a s'more — one that didn't have to be black as coal — was a much better choice. It was a nice thing for her to do. He turned back in her direction, unfolded his arms, and nodded. "You know, I guess you're right. It wasn't the best popcorn I've ever had: kind of chewy, and a little too sweet. I bet you they just bought it at a store. And it's not like I paid for it or anything, so..." He shrugged, balled up the paper bag, and dropped it into a round-shaped pocket in the arm of the Muggle folding chair. "I'm sorry I... yucked your yum. Will you show me how to make a s'more for myself? As long as you keep it out of the fire, I mean."
He helped gather some of the necessary ingredients to make the treat, and as he was turning back towards Colby, he caught sight of another girl sitting not too far away. She looked to be about their age; she had light brown hair and big, green eyes, which almost seemed like they were shining in the light of the bonfire. Her head was turned in his direction, but he couldn't tell if she was just looking at the fire or if she was watching him and Colby. The chance of it being the latter made him uncomfortable. Septimus narrowed his eyes at the girl — a look that could be interpreted either as a squint or, maybe, a glare — and spoke to Colby without averting his gaze. "I think that girl's staring at us," he said. "Do you know her?"

The laughter and conversation echoed around them, and Rachel leaned closer to Casey as he spoke. His stories about the mountains near his home sounded enchanting, and it was such a difference from the coastal town where she grew up.
She felt a deep connection to his stories of his brother teaching him about hiking. They reminded her of her own brothers, who would let her tag along on their many adventures around the coastline. They found so many caves and hideouts and swore her to secrecy when they discovered a hidden gem of a location.
She listened as Casey described what his parents did for a living. It had to be interesting to have a potioneer for a father. She herself wondered what that career must look like in the wizarding world and how it might compare to the muggle world.
It was heartwarming to see Casey open up about his family and his life back home. She felt like she was finally making friends in this new world, and she enjoyed his company.
When Casey paused, she shared her own experiences. “My brothers would take me on adventures, too. When they would discover new coves on our coastline or find interesting things under the docks where we are from. There was always something to get into with those two.”
She gazed into the fire as one of the logs popped. The fire danced as she thought back to her brothers trying to teach her how to swim for the first time, and a smile spread across her face.
Turning to Casey, she asked, “You speak a lot about your brother. Are you two close?” Her eyes reflected the flickering firelight as she pulled her gaze from the flames, genuinely interested in hearing more about his family.

Laughter, chatter and an all around lively chaos had accompanied summer camp yet another day. It was excruciating for young Takahashi. She couldn’t shake the profound loneliness that had been gnawing at her all throughout this experience. While most of her peers had managed to forge new friendships during their First year, Ula had remained an island unto herself. Her classmates had settled into groups, their camaraderie blooming from shared experiences and mutual support. She, on the other hand, had pushed people away with her aloof demeanor and disdain. Where others had found warmth and connection, she had built walls, determined to maintain her distance from the very things that might have brought her closer to others. It was easier, she told herself, to remain detached and self-reliant, rather than risk the vulnerability that came with opening up to new people.
And so, there she sat on a nearby bench. Like a pretty sad picture, her usual confidence unable to mask the hollow feeling inside. Her eyes wandered to other students, happily snacking on marshmallows and s’mores around the fire. She swallowed hard, her mouth salivating at the sight. The last thing she wanted was to appear desperate, but as she watched the growing line at the snack bar, the temptation became almost unbearable.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a snippet of conversation from a nearby group of campers. "They're running out of snacks and I think this is the last round since it’s getting late," one of them said. Ula’s eyes sharpened, her gaze locking onto the snack bar. The word spread quickly, and the once leisurely crowd started to shift with urgency.
Despite her usual disdain for common treats, the idea of missing out irked her. As she rose from the bench, she noticed a boy walking with a stick full of marshmallows. Seeing an opportunity, she quickly maneuvered to intercept him. As he neared, she subtly stretched out her leg, making the boy trip over her foot and crash onto his back. But like a trophy, he held the relatively untouched marshmallow stick high into the air. Grinning and somewhat coughing through the ache, he seemed to find humor in his predicament.
"Oops," Ula said with a saccharine smile as she bent down, her voice dripping with faux concern. "Sorry about that. Hope you’re alright."
"Better luck next time though," she said as she stepped over him and made her way to the snack bar. She knew she’d secured her place in line, and that was all that mattered.

"The occult and Macabre? Cool, I don't know much about it, you'll have to tell me about it sometime!" Aston smiled at the idea of another topic of interest that he could learn about. He was happy that he seemed to have lightened up Lucretcia's mood at least a little bit. Glad to know I didn't screw anything up. Even though by this point most of Aston's nervousness when meeting new people has gone he still worries a lot. Or at least it feels like a lot to him.
Aston was quite excited upon hearing of Lucretcia's interest in Nine inch nails, though he quickly calmed down to think of the best way to talk about muggle music. He doesn't know for sure what her blood status is but she doesn't really seem like a muggle born. "Nine inch nails is a muggle band, they've been around since the 90s. I like em a lot, my parents had some of their records. Actually you might like them! Just judging by our fashion that is. I should totally find a chance to play you some of their records one day." The idea of having someone to share music with was great. Most of Aston's wardrobes was just different muggle band shirts, music was always something he liked a lot. Oh what I wouldn't give to be a drummer, one good enough to be in a band. Wait do wizards even have instruments to play rock n roll??

xxx | MENTIONInitially, Aodhan was grateful that someone had actually come to check on his wellbeing. It was unexpected considering all the distracting jokes and laughter and conversation surrounding them. A real show of kindness! Consequently, he flashed a smile in the girl's direction, completely oblivious to her inauthenticity. He was more than prepared to say thank you and assure he was perfectly fine until... What? "Better luck next time?"
Confusion decorated itself across the boy's face, his gaze shifting from his acquaintance to the direction they moved in. His umber irises soaked in the view for one, two, three seconds, and that's when everything clicked. Low ingredients, the growing snack line... No way. Did she really... ?
Oh, this was war.
With a sense of urgency, the youth scrambled onto his feet and situated his prized marshmallow stick between his not so pearly whites. He then flowed into a jog, and upon catching up to his newly dubbed rival, attempted a shoulder bump while passing her by.
Giggles ringing like wind chimes escaped Aodhan as he did so, their sound just mildly distorted by carrying something within his mouth. With the edge of his heel, or maybe even his hands, he also worked to tip over empty cups or pillows unfortunate enough to be in his path. Although it slowed himself down, obstacles for his opponent were still obstacles, and advantages were still advantages.
In a world of magical novelties, it was pleasant to find certain things would remain as they were. This familiar playful energy, this excitement in his veins, he absolutely loved it! His laughter refused to cease and a mischievous grin was there to match.
