Broom sledding! It was something similar to regular sledding and Mylo was looking forward to participating, as they hadn't done something like this in a while. They had seen the sign-up sheet for it as soon as they had registered and had decided to put down their name, wondering if it would be anything like the sledding they had memories of doing when he was younger.

As the event was going to start Mylo went up to the organiser, Tommy he believed he was called, and went to grab their sled, getting a few words of advice about following their heart and choosing the best route. Mylo was starting to get a bit nervous about how bad the routes could be, as he looked over to the three choices and saw 3 options that didn't seem all to safe. But having signed up they couldn't back out now, and taking a few deep breaths he went for the option that felt the safest, the wide path that look quite windy, at least there wasn't anything to crash into.

Gearing up he took another deep breath and off they went, hoping that he would be able to get to the bottom safely at the least.

EmmaLee turned and beamed as a familiar voice and then face she had not seen yet this summer placed her sled next to EmmaLee's. "Aurélie!" She cheered. "Hi! It's wonderful to see you again as well!" She continued, comfortably dropping into French as none of their English-speaking friends were around to be left out by speaking their native language. EmmaLee nodded at Aurélie's questions as the two mounted their sleds.

"I am having a great time! The snow in summer was a surprise, though. What about you?" She asked, placing her foot on the ground to make sure her sled didn't take off before she was ready. "I'm in the Stargazer tent, Cygnus. It's the constellation of the swan." She explained brightly. "Which tent did you end up in?"

EmmaLee was excited to see Aurélie again. The younger girl had been one of the people that EmmaLee had wanted to send an owl to, but she had gotten caught up in her own foolishness about Stephen and the LeDames family, then exam time began so she had forgotten. If EmmaLee had known that Aurélie had come to camp, though she probably should have assumed, she would have set out to find the girl earlier. As it was, this was a good meeting. They could enjoy the sledding together.

ACTION:

The call for adrenaline junkies immediately had Aaron Jones interested. A downhill broom sledding event? He didn't know what broom sledding was - maybe sleds with brooms attached? - but he was among the first to signup when he saw the sheet advertising it. When the 19th came around, he dressed warmly in some boots, grey sweatpants and a gray hoodie with layers underneath. Leaving his cozy tent behind, he saw a younger student handing out sleds and got in line. This must be Tommy, since that's who the flyers had said would be hosting the event. [OOC Note: If Tommy is meant to be at the top of the summit, assume this interaction happened at the top. You can owl me asking for edits, too]

"Thanks!" Aaron said, accepting the sled that was offered to him. "I'm Aaron Jones, by the way, incoming sixth year Hufflepuff," he introduced. "Great event idea! Definitely an adrenaline junkie's dream."

With greetings out of the way and a parting grin, Aaron started climbing the mountain that had been created for it. The sixteen-year-old was grinning the whole way up, imagining the speed he'd be able to accumulate on the way back down. At one point as he was ascending, he did examine the sled he'd been given. There didn't appear to be any brooms attached or special magical modifications he saw. Why was it called broom sledding then? He had even packed his shrunken Silver Arrow in his pocket, in case brooms were needed. Oh well, normal sledding was sure to be just as adrenaline packed, if not more so. Brooms were much easier to control than sleds.

When Aaron did get to the summit, he went to the area that a bunch of other racers were gathered around. There was a choice of three paths evident. As he was assessing each path, he noticed a familiar face in the crowd. Was that... Greta? Before he could confirm or deny this, the long-haired girl had setup at the steep and narrow slope. Although his curiosity had been peeked, he was more tempted by the wider path. There was more open space to try to perform some tricks. Sure, the speed had been tempting him on the way up and the steep slope was more likely to deliver that; however, now that he was here and had a sled in hand, the idea of trying to skate down the mountain with it was tempting. The worst that could happen would be falling off and becoming a human snowball, right?

Throwing caution to the wind, Aaron's fearless nature took over and he setup at the wide path. There was a teen girl in a snowsuit (Manuela Macedo @Aly Salinger) whom Aaron shot a charismatic grin in greeting, and he sent a friendly wave to some of the others on the wide path. Then, maybe trying to show off a bit for anyone around him, he casually stepped on top of the sled (rather than sitting or laying on it like a normal person). Treating it like a snowboard, he prepared to push off with his back foot and begin to "snowboard" down the wide path.

♥♥♥ Wearing a bunch of layers in an attempt to wrap up warm, Xiomara made her way to the sledding event. It seemed like fun but why was it so cold when it was summer?! She paired her layers up with some leggings - the thickest she could find - and some boots. Her hair was braided, so it hopefully would stay out of her way for the event.

As she approached, she looked around for any familiar faces. One immediately came to her attention. A boy that she had seen performing tricks not too many days prior to this [Aaron]. He seemed to be keen to partake in this sport too - maybe he was just really good at all adrenaline based sports?! Dang, he was cool. Xiomara had no idea if he had done this before or if he was any good at it but she was keen to find out. Grabbing a sled, she quickly followed suit and opted for the same path as him - choosing the widest path that she could see. It seemed like a good choice, given that there were plenty of people. A narrower path might get more dangerous if there were too many students on the track at the same time!

She smiled at a taller girl who was also taking the path [Manu]. The girl seemed to know the trick rider - maybe they were in the same class?! That would be cool. She could interview her too! Oh, the possibilities were endless. "Good luck!" She called out as she watched her take off.

Another girl [Rachel] - who looked younger than the first - followed suit and Xiomara quickly followed behind her after shooting her a toothy grin, deciding that she could do the same too - especially if she intended to see the Aaron Jones in action! "AHH, I HOPE YOU'VE DONE THIS BEFORE!" She called out as her sled started to move down the slope, following behind the girl. Xiomara was hopeful that they would not all end up hitting each other in a minute. She had gone sledding a couple of times before but it was mostly grass sledding, rather than snow sledding, so this would be an interesting experience. Hopefully the others had done this before though and could help lead the way.

This summer camp was the most confusing yet—but at least it was strange weather and not danger and near-death—well, at least that was the hope. Who had ever heard of downhill broom sledding and how did it even work? Della arrived at the racing hill, hoping to find familiar terrain. She knew all about sledding and all about broom racing—and she was overseeing a broom race with fairly snowy elements the next weekend. Whatever this was, it should be in her wheelhouse.

Around her were several students trying out the sleds. Normal sleds? No brooms? Do you sit down? Lay down? Stand? Did the sled "fly"? She was handed a sled by THE @Tommy Patterson but he didn't offer any instructions. Laying it down at the finish line, she sat down, feet in front, testing out the sled's ability to turn quickly. Not bad. This could be fun. She examined the paths that lay in front of them. Della figured most people would pick the wide open path—making it not so wide and not so open anymore. Her other choices were a narrow slope and a path through a dense patch of trees. She decided on the latter. It was probably the scariest option, but this was all for fun, and where's the fun without a little challenge?

Aurélie's face lit up as EmmaLee recognised her. Somewhere inside she'd wondered if the other girl had maybe forgotten her, since they hadn't spoken for long. But Aurélie had found the Hogwarts girl interesting, and maybe the EmmaLee had found her interesting.

Wait. She blinked, realising that EmmaLee was speaking to her not in English, like they had at the spring ball, but in French. She was extremely used to French, and loved her mother tongue, but it was odd to have practised English to come to camp and then speak French even to the foreign students.

"I'd been expecting something summer themed, but I love the snow." Aurélie said, omitting the fact the snow was also an annoyance. The cold, while it made planning activities easier, made the French girl crave warmth and hot chocolate. "I'm in a Frozen Palace themed tent. I've heard that all of them are really pretty, though." She grinned, speaking easily back to EmmaLee in French.

Aurélie looked down at the path. People had already begun to let go and start their trip down it seemed. If they waited any longer, EmmaLee and her probably wouldn't even be a part of the race. If she hadn't been the competitive person she was, she might've been alright with that, sacrificing her chance to win to speak with a friend she rarely got to see. But she wasn't.

"Are you excited? I've been wanting to do this specific activity forever." After waiting for a moment to hear EmmaLee's reply, Aurélie let go of the ground, swinging her legs up onto the sled.

Immediately, the sled slid forward. Though the path that Aurélie was on wasn't steep and narrow, it still was slanted quite a bit. She felt herself pulled forward and her adrenaline spiked up, though she wasn't scared. Looking behind her at EmmaLee, she yelled. "This is so much fun!" Hopefully the other girl's sled would catch up.

Tommy had finished handing out sleds. He was surprised and pleased with the turnout of his event. Same faces he recognized, some faces he did not. He was lost in a daze handing out the sleds. "Goodluck" was all he had time to tell anyone as he passed the sleds out.

As the last sled was passed out he began to hurry off to the starting line. "On your mark, get set, GO!" Tommy yelled. With the chaos in front of him, he hoped no one would notice the broom he had hid under a pile of snow. "Up"

Tommy flew off to one of the three paths. Which would he sabotage, and how would he do it? He could not wait to see how the racers would react. Hopefully, he wouldn't make any enemies during this stunt, but anything in the name of making his event more interesting. It was a bold decision, but Tommy knew it would make him more well known, for better or worse.

For now Tommy had to pick which path to sabotage and how he would do it. He had an idea for each path, but deciding was the hard part. Time was against him. It was a race after all.

The first round of downhill broom sledding is finished! Let's catch up with the events that occurred.

Those who took the steep and narrow path were rewarded for the risky choice. The steep path aided in sledding down hill at a higher speed. At the start of the race, Oonagh successfully thrashed her sled into Astra Norick and Colby Vidler, slowing them down. The two racers leading this pack are Cass Ito and Stephen Schwartz. Followed closely by Oonagh Brown, Hiro Bakugo, and a trail of Raizel Voltrouz, Greta Fransson, Astra Norrick, Hans Jensen, and trailing slightly behind, Colby Vidler.

Checking in on those taking the forest full of trees: Della Barfield is off to an outstanding start with a slight lead over Aleksandra Fairbairn. Ruby Night and Kim Sato are neck and neck behind them. The group was able to weave in and out of the trees without any injuries kudos to these racers!

Lastly, checking in on the final group taking the windy but wide path. The racers are... wait? What's that? Is that Tommy Patterson? What is he doing? Oh no folks, it appears Tommy Patterson is sabotaging the racers and using his broom to make horizontal sweeps in the snow on the edges of the paths. OH NO! THE SIDES OF THE PATH ARE COLLAPSING. The racers are forced onto a narrow path and given the high winds are forced to slow down. Manu Macedo leads the charge, followed by AURÉLIE NATHALIE DUVAL, Aaron Jones, Xiomara Torres, Rachel Greenford, Emmalee LeDames, and Mylo Atkins.

The racers have now converged into one path. But ahead lies another branching path. Racers must choose one of three paths.

The snow tunnel that goes underground
The path filled with small bumps (Perfect for catching some air)
The boring path, not slopped to steep, not slopped too flat

There was only a small period of time to decide as his sled was already going at a really fast pace. But Tone immediately knew which one he wanted to choose. Steering his sled as best as he could, he focused on the path filled with small bumps, perfect for catching some air if you hit them right, and continued to slide down the hill. This was the best possible path because it would give him some air time hopefully and also let him work on his balance. He could only hope this choice was the best one. But how could it not be? It looked like it could be pretty fun just from how he was visualizing it right now. Going over bumps with a sled would get you some nice air distance.

Really, the organizers had outdone themselves this year. It was nice to be able to experience a more cold summer, than the sweltering heat and humidity that always took over the summer. The paths converged onto eachother and for a short time they all continued to sled down the hillside. Until the path branched out into three different paths for the second time once more. Yet another choice to be made. After a few seconds of contemplation, which he was able to do because he was one of the current slowest, Kim decided upon taking the boring path, not sloped to steep, not sloped too flat this time. He didn't want to get air time due to his fear of heights and going underground was not an option. That probably meant darkness and he tended to avoid darkness.
