Qrow had just gotten into the boat when their eyes landed on the unfamiliar form of a familiar face.
Rhys Read looked remarkable
Their hair had been plaited back neatly into two french braids and they were dressed in a long, sage green dress that hugged their waist and flowed down around their legs. Their matching green eyeshadow, with gold eyeliner that perfectly reflected the shimmering colour of their flower earrings and high heels looked particularly fancy on them, and the Slytherin was starkly reminded of how the wizard side of the Gryffindors family were all wealthy purebloods much like themself.
Rhys Read may have looked remarkable, but Qrow Beithir didn't like it. Not one bit.
Something had been off about their friend since their journey back after the summer and it made the metamorphmagus' skin crawl.
The metamorph pushed their grief aside as they subtly observed their friend.
They hadn't asked Rhys to come as their date, and they certainly hadn't expected the Gryffindor to come of their own accord after the events of last year's spring ball, (needless to say Qrowley would never be attending a ball at Hogwarts that had a maze, ever again) honestly it was a miracle that the red and white haired student had even decided to attend this one.
The Gryffindors' eyes landed on Qrow and very suddenly, they found themselves panicking as Rhys carefully made their way over to them; While they were obviously - at least to Qrow who had been walking in them for years - somewhat unbalanced on their heels, Rhys walked with a newfound grace that starkly contrasted the person that the Slytherin had known last year.
“Hey… Do you think you have room for one more?”
Qrow almost said no.
A horrible, awful, disgusting part of them wanted to be alone; to wallow in their own self pity. They did not want to spend their night with a stranger - and that's what the individual before them was because this was absolutely not Rhys Read - because they were struggling with change at the moment and while they were desperately grasping at any reminisce of ‘same’ it was quite difficult to not feel as if their entire world was being pulled out from beneath them.
Stepping out of the boat, the Slytherin plastered on a charming smile as they offered their hand to help the lion in.
"Always.”
When had they become so fake?

Kaya listened to Sherlock's answer and found herself eager to try riding bike. But that would mean she'd need someone who can help with it as there was no way she could find it in her neighborhood. That sounds really cool. I guess I might've seen bikes when I was in muggle world, walking a bit. But I'd like to try it, though I'd definitely need a help with that. I'm living in wizard world so I don't really think I could find it there. She said so enthusiastically while actually thinking how she could try it. I like animals, spend time in the garden, just playing guitar or looking at stars. I adore traveling and I can cook and bake. It was nice to walk, even in the silence. Kaya Rose found that it felt quite comfortable, which was a great feeling. She noticed Sherlock looking like he was thinking about something. And soon enough she found him offering to do lanterns before dancing. Surely. That's okay, we can do lanterns and if you don't feel up to dancing, we can skip it. I guess it's not the last opportunity for us to dance. Kaya looked at Sherlock with sincere smile. If he looked at her now, he would find that she felt rather fine with not going to dance right away. Not that she didn't want to dance with him, she just wasn't entirely into dancing or dresses, doing both quite rare. I hope you'll feel better soon. Let's give ourselves more time for digesting food. She looked sincere when she said it. And... was it care in her voice when she said it? Kaya supposed she indeed was starting to feel more care toward Sherlock. ☆.。.:* .。.:*☆ Once they arrived to lantern making space, Kaya found a lot of different material. She thought for a second it would be special to offer Sherlock to make one lantern together, but she also wanted to make one for herself, as well as she supposed Sherlock would like to have one of his own. She could hear someone calling her name but was so caught up with the way evening was going, that she didn't want to search for that person. Kaya looked up and noticed it was her classmate Skye. Classmate, I guess she didn't notice that I'm with you, sorry about that. Kaya apologized to Sherlock. She didn't want any interruption to this lovely evening, but that was fine. She guessed that girl was here without partner and most likely simply didn't notice Sherlock. Ah Skye. Hey, do you enjoy it here today? @Aries Scythe as Skye So she chose purple painting and filled the background of her soon to be lantern. After that she took smaller brush and drew Milky Way on the one side, with finishing it on the other. Rest she filled with stars making them mix between yellow and white. Kaya didn't feel the need to add anything else there, so she looked at Sherlock. How is it going so far? Rose waited for an answer and then in a voice so full of enthusiasm, kindness and sincerity she finally said what she thought about some time ago. Sherlock, what will you say if we do one lantern together? |

As Delilah plunged into the cool, dark water, her immediate instinct was to search for Estelle. Panic set in, and her heart raced as she frantically scanned the water around her. The dim underwater world distorted her vision, and the ripples from the boat's movement created a disorienting dance of shadows.
"Estelle!" Delilah called out, her voice muffled by the water. She paddled desperately, her hands moving through the liquid in a frantic search for her friend. Her breath quickened as she realized that the water concealed Estelle's whereabouts, and a sense of helplessness washed over her.
Delilah's messy hair swirled around her face as she continued to dive, her eyes wide open in the hopes of catching a glimpse of Estelle's form. In the hazy underwater environment, , she pushed herself to search more fervently, propelled by the fear of losing her friend in the dark depths.
Holding her breath like that made the search even more challenging.. The realization that Estelle wasn't immediately visible filled Delilah with a rising sense of dread.
Delilah's courage wavered as she grappled with the uncertainty of the situation. The water seemed to play tricks on her, distorting her perceptions and making every passing second feel like an eternity.
As Delilah's attempts to locate Estelle became more desperate, the cold reality set in—her friend was nowhere to be found in the murky depths. Delilah's heart sank, and a wave of vulnerability washed over her.

Clair Smiled as Greebo and Colin showed up. She reached down and gave the cat a pat, and then greeted the boy with a smile, she tried to hold in a laugh at the fact that he really had managed to match her outfit pretty well. "You look dazzling tonight m'dear." She praised, She looked around a little wary for any stray murderous things. "None that I've seen so far, and I thought hair troubles were only a girl problem!" she laughed, tracing a finger over her own hairline absentmindedly.
When Colin kissed her, Clair held back the jump she knew came with kissing, it was not something that she was used to, yet.
She acted as if she had not heard him say what he had, instead she looked out towards the water, trying to hide the smirk that was attempting to push its way onto her lips, the water provided the distraction that she had been looking for. It looked so peaceful, she knew that it was a lie, the great lake was anything but peaceful, the giant squid was enough to make her nervous about going near the water, but a boat ride was harmless, right? And besides, boat rides were allowed as far as she was concerned.
"Care for a boat ride? we could play first years again." She teased, remembering her own boat ride before she had been sorted into the best house and joined a completely different universe from what she had ever been in before.

Marietta's night just seemed to get worse and worse, though she'd never admit it. She was a particular fan of loud things, even if she sometimes got a little loud. It just reminded her of how shouty her parents got, or use to get. Hoping he didn't notice Marietta would wince everytime... What had he called himself Pieraelugi? For moment she wondered if the name was fake. How dare you Marietta! For all you know it could be a common italian name! She would sigh in defeat of her own point she made.
When Pieraelugi stood up in the boat she almost chided him but then thought better. He was older and a-what had he called it? A gondelyre? Maybe it would be okay. She thought, as the boat began to wobble. Marietta would grab one side of the boat with one hand and fen with the other.
Fengel had been rather disgruntled by the whole thing. He had not enjoyed zooming through the air as his master carried him. He had not enjoyed being that close to the water. He had not enjoyed it when master squeezed him that hard. Above all else though, he did not enjoy how scared master was. So Fen would wiggle out of Marietta's grasp and start rubbing up against her to calm her down once the boat started wobbling. This was sadly short lived though.
Marietta couldn't help but let out an "awwwwe" as her cat attempted to calm her. However this 'awwwwe' Quickly became an "AAAAAH" as the boat tipped. Causing Marietta to accidentally drink a large gulp of the lake water. Wanted to gag but couldn't, seeing as how she was under water. She started to swim to the top but something grabbed her. Marietta jumped, well, she spasumed in an upward motion [its rather hard to jump underwater]. She'd look down and see a strange tentacley creature holding on to her. This was even harder to gag at.
In the rush and all the adrenaline she hadn't really felt the cold. Sure, it slammed into her when she fell in cause her to gasp and drink water [as well as that scream] but she didn't really feel it since her mind was elsewhere. Now though, with nothing but the weird ugly creature to look at, she felt the cold. This, she released some air in response to. With that, it felt even more doomed. It was cold, the creature was creepy, poor Fen was probably freaking out- and Pieraelugi! She looked round frantically for Pieraelugi. Was he okay?! What if he can't swim?! What if these creatures also found him?! Or-or something worse! Marietta thought frantically. A nice well meaning boy could die, all because she didn't stop him from standing up.

Alyssea kicked and kicked. She didn't dare look around and waste her time. She couldn't hold out hope that someone would be saving her because they were likely saving everyone else. Besides, she could do it, right? All it was was some kicking, strong arm thrusts, and calming down the heart.

She couldn't. The creature's grip on her arm only tightened as she sunk deeper into the depths. What did her choir teacher say to do when she was running out of breath? Recollecting memories took her away from the imminent panic. Expand the diaphragm and allow more of the air deeper in the lungs to surface. Right.
Alyssea didn't dare open her eyes as she thought of better memories. Distracting herself from the danger while kicking and trying to escape was better than facing it at full face value.
She thought about her lantern. Yes, the one she made earlier before getting into a boat. What was on it again? It was a badger on a broom with a blue sky that she changed with a spell. What was the spell again? The colour-changing charm from Transfiguration...
The sky certainly felt like a better place to be than where she was right now.

She went closer to the shores in hopes to see what's going on but it was hard to do so. "Strange, did people fall off of their boats?" She wondered out loud, taking a quick glance at Zach. They wouldn't have fired two periculums if this wasn't an emergency situation.
She could hear splashes from whoever was swimming in those waters and the only reason they would be doing that would be to help out whoever had fallen into the cold lake. "Maybe we should do something to help out." As much as Raizel would like to jump in, that'd just be a suicide mission for the Gryffindor. She can't swim. How she wished she learned how to swim. She should definitely find a way to learn.
At this moment, she remembered the pool noodles that Elsian Cox had when they were trying to walk a tightrope tied at the end of two brooms. Those would've been useful in this situation right now. Are there any adults here? Maybe someone is watching the lake in case something like this happens? They agreed to let students ride boats on the lake so there should be at least a supervisor right? "Okay, what to do, what to do."

Madison knew that someone must be trying to save her, she had felt what felt like cold air rush past her, obviously with the intention of trying to hit the Grindylow that was now dragging her even further into the depths of the lake. However she also knew that others needed saving too, she had to try and get herself out of this creatures grip if she could.
Luckily, Madison knew not to panic and to use her body and anything else she had on her. Her dad and brother had taught her how to fight, however that was to fight humans, not scary water creatures. She kept taking slow deep breaths from her diaphragm, and even though she could feel her skin get cold and she knew her dress was soaked, Madison took one of her heels off, and started hitting the grindylows with it, along with using her elbows and her legs. She knew she had to get out of her, then she could be reunited with her friends, who were hopefully now safe and dry.
The lake was so murky that she couldn't see a thing, she just hoped that her friends were alright. Madison had scratches on her arms from the Grindylows claws and she'd also need to take a long hot bath once she was out of the grip of the Grindylow and back on dry land. Come on Madi, keep fighting, think of your family, friends, little Clover and all of the dreams you have she thought to herself. She kept elbowing the Grindylow, using her legs and her heel, twisting her body from side to side in order to try and wriggle free

Almost as soon as they approached the other area of the event, someone called Rose. The girl explained to Sherlock that the other person was her classmate, apologised that the unknown Ilvermony student did not seem to notice him, and proceeded to take some time to greet the said classmate.
Following this series of chained events, Sherlock did not feel anger toward Rose, or any kind of jealousy as if she was prioritising her classmate over him. No, everything about her behaviour was perfectly understandable, even kind that she explained things to him and polite that she excused herself before turning her attention from him to the classmate.
However, he was not happy, either. Something was familiar, like a memory stored at the back of his brain but could easily be opened at any time. It was the same thing all over again, people did not notice him, or straight-up ignoring him. The feeling was not of anger, it was hurt. His heart, right in the middle of his breast (even though it was more to the left than perfectly in the middle), felt like it was being punched.
Things did not get better for the boy when he saw the lanterns at the handcrafting area. Although they were made-ready, it seemed whoever came was expected to decorate them. He was not good at this, people would be mocking at his handwork, and coupled with the negative thought that was currently haunting his mind, that he was not liked and therefore not worthy of being noticed, made him want to cry of humiliation. But he did not, for he did not want to destroy Rose's evening.
She, on the other hand, looked as if she was so full of energy and enthusiasm for this activity. She busied herself with a brush and paints: purple, white, and yellow. "How is it going so far?" she asked happily; but he only grunted in response, brown eyes staring at the plain lantern and untouched brushes in front of him. And then, "Sherlock, what will you say if we do one lantern together?"
He took a deep breath. "Only if you don't mind ended up with an ugly lantern," he whispered.
