"Of all the wonders that I yet have heard, it seems to me most strange that men should fear seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come."- William Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar'
▁ ▂ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ █ ||~♟~|| ▇ ▆ ▅ ▄ ▂ ▁
Honestly, what did he expect from trying to explain the medical dangers of burns to someone who apparently was no better than a child? Did he think an 11-year old would have the mental maturity to show any shred of compassion to someone other than those they deemed 'worthy' enough? Of course not, he'd probably have to wait for them to grow in a few years' time.
All the girl did was complain about his largely valid words and mock an injury that could cause serious complications and could very well lead to death if not treated in time. All these gremlins with wands in their early years were given the ability to burn people alive without giving them the knowledge of why they shouldn't do that.
... No that would just be blaming the professors for something they had little to no control over, the actions of irresponsible preteens. They weren't these kids' parents, no, instead he should be blaming the actual parents for apparently not teaching their children the very basic lesson of 'don't play with fire', and the preteens themselves for apparently not getting the memo.
Still whoever originally thought that 'hey, it's a great idea to give emotionally unstable preteens wands and spells that can cause death and mass destruction!' was an absolute neanderthal who deserves to rot in prison for child endangerment.
The younger student apparently thought it prudent to yell at him because they didn't have the maturity to take responsibility for their actions, of course. Even Selim knew when to take responsibility for the damage he caused, like trying to heal said the damage the best he could, and fully accepting any punishment divvied out by the professors afterwards. Hell, he was absolutely crushed by guilt in the quiet moments of his days due to some of the irreparable things he's done to his peers in his times of abysmal mental stability. The best he could do during those times was shove it to the back of his mind and get on with his soul-draining day.
Perhaps that was why he decided to try and heal the injuries of these reckless preteens rather than engage in any danger they waltzed into. Tonight was a tad different, obviously, because assisting in not having a brand new hag wandering around the underbelly of Hogwarts most definitely affected him as well.
Oh, and of course, there was the reason he always avoided interacting with first-years. They copied his actions like ducklings without actually putting any thought into doing those actions. Unlike this girl, he had assessed the risk, the pros and cons of his attack and had rather properly decided that continuing to let the giant prance around and crack open heads with no thought into how serious head trauma was was a very bad idea. So he decided literally keep him from 'prancing around'. He assessed, with deep consideration, how dangerous this basic attack was, and it was most definitely not as life-threatening as burns could be, from any logical angle.
Muggles almost always fully recovered from ruptured Achilles tendons. Sure, they could get leg pain for a good while afterwards, but that wasn't the end of the world. The worse they could get was an infection, but Selim had the full intentions to treat the wound after he dealt the blow.
Burns were not the same, he had explained to her why they weren't the same, she had refused to listen to that and instead pointlessly compared the two. Still trying to justify her actions as if that would change his mind about how reckless she was.
Then she accused him of accusing her of species-hate. This claim only confused him, really, at no point had he accused her of that. Was she mistaking him just trying to refer to the larger student as something other than 'this boy' as accusing her?
Honestly, she was the most illogical first-year he's met so far, she was basically babbling in a haze of defensiveness. There was no point in continuing any discussion with her. She accused him of not caring about the head trauma injury the half-giant had caused even though he had actually addressed that and expressed his concern about it. Basically just arguing for the sake of arguing. It seemed her attention span was abysmally short in this situation because she obviously hadn't bothered processing anything he said.
She said sorry but then immediately invalidated her apology by saying she was in the right. Standing by her 'valorous' actions of trying to burn a student alive. Apparently, she had never heard the saying 'an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind'. She had gone above and beyond neutralizing the threat to some sort of misguided satisfaction of injuring them for no reason other than rage-fueled vengeance. Perhaps the belief that people despise those similar to themselves had some merit. She was, indeed, no better than the one she decided to burn at the moment.
Luckily, in the end, they agreed on one thing: they needed Nurse Brumby. He wasn't sure why that was the only logical reasoning she decided to show. Whatever the reason he was glad he didn't have to suffer her self-righteous words any longer. Of course, he was also glad someone was finally going to update the nurse on the endless chaos churning in the festival
Idly he wondered if the girl was always like that, or if the experience of her first fall ball disaster was just getting to her. For all, he knew she'd actually apologize to the half-giant after this mess was over. He could only hope.
Glancing between the two injured boys, he frowned, trying to puzzle out how he'd try and keep both stable until a proper medical professional arrived. He was still gnawing with concern about the other student who had gotten head trauma, but he hadn't the faintest clue as to where they were.
With a grimace of defeat, he carefully manoeuvred the smaller patient closer to the felled half-giant with great hesitation. Hopefully, the larger boy wouldn't lash out once he awoke, but Selim had to keep pressure on the gash he had caused until the larger patient could do it himself.
So, with difficulty, he settled into a classic seiza position, trying to make sure the smaller patient's head is in line with his spine, [while also trying to keep pressure on the bleeding wound of the half-giant].
He actually wasn't sure if the boy with head trauma was completely unconscious or simply temporarily blacked out. Or perhaps he was just speechless from the shock of getting his skull cracked open. So, with that in mind, he didn't try to cushion his head on his lap like the girl. He doubted the other boy would be pleased about it if he did. Though he honestly had no clue about the boy's temperament in that sort of situation.
So, he tried to speak over the rain. If the boy was awake he wanted to make sure he knew that moving around in this condition was a horrid idea. "Try to keep your head as still as possible. Head trauma isn't something to scoff at and moving around too suddenly may severely worsen the injury. Hopefully, the nurse will be here soon so you can get proper treatment." He said, voice rather level and words straight to the point. "I'm not sure what the extent of the damage is, hopefully, it's not a worst-case scenario though. Oh, and do worry, your attacker is temporarily out of commission." The skull-masked boy assured idly.
[I'm unsure if putting pressure on Hugh's wound is an action. If it is then Selim doesn't do it at that moment. I'll instead shift it to the next mod post.]

Wow, where had he been? Life happens so fast, there was urgency to return to this side of the ball when someone told him that there was stabbings happening. Then... well, it was dark and rainy, and Kels was easily distracted. He'd be lured in by one thing after another, until the same scream would call him back into the task at hand. He really needed to start paying this kid to scream at him every time he got distracted, it might actually work. As she finally found him, she'd be exclaiming about someone being burned this time. Were the students just cycling through every attack they could think of?
"Okay Juni, lead the way." He'd reply, assuming she would point or guide him to the victim's side.
Once he was in the impact zone, he saw Rion as well as a few of the heads of houses handling the situation... whatever the situation was. Frankly, he was having a hard time telling what was going on, no matter how calm he was in a crisis. It seemed some students and professors were already healing, to various degrees of success, so he would move on to the burn victim in question. Frankly, he did not seem like the highest priority. As he looked from one kid to the next, he saw one was looking completely out of it. Unresponsive was top priority.
"Episkey." Without knowing what happened, returning color to his face would be the first move, then he'd check for concussion after that by bending down and assessing the damage.
Next to him, he'd see a familiar face, but in an unfamiliar situation. Hisoka was tending to someone's bleeding, quietly helping despite the pouring rain (and no, Kels did not see him slicing tendons a moment ago.) "Hey Hisoka, good job."
Which would lead to his next move, yelling, because yelling worked! "Come on! Let's get th'wounded to th'hospital wing! If you can walk, help them what can't!"

While Selim was waiting, the rain just kept pouring to the point of it pooling in the crevices of his mask. An annoyed noise escaped the boy's throat, and he decided that enough was enough. He needed to try his best to actually see his surroundings. Everything was distorted by the rain and at this point, it was more of a hindrance to wear his mask than a comfort.
Unlatching and pulling the rabbit skull mask off his visage, he let it drop into the mud, uncaring seeing as how it wasn't his usual pristine, well-loved rabbit mask. He could grab it later.
As if on queue, the nurse come rolling in, fashionably late, one could say. Upon seeing the unconscious boy, he immediately uttered a spell, ridding Selim of some of his tension. The nurse then spoke to him but used a name that no one in Hogwarts should know. His head snapped over, temporarily icy blue eyes widened. "How-" he shook his head, cutting himself off before he could voice his confusion. This wasn't the time.
He pointed to the unconscious boy, "Possible depression skull fracture, at least that's what I suspect would happen from a half-giant grabbing your skull and cracking it purely though tightening his grip on it. They also did that to another boy I think, I don't know if that boy has been tended to or where he is though." He then gestured to the culprit of the injuries, "Burns along his torso and arm from a spell the girl who probably got your attention cast. He also has a severed Achilles tendon which, admittedly, I caused after evaluating the risk of the injury or letting him prance around and cause more damage. I'm unsure what degree his burns are though, the rain quelled the flames rather quickly. Prof. Lécuyer casted stupify on him, so he should awake soon." After briefly summarizing what injuries were on the scene he decided to name some offhand ones from the other injuries he could remember. "Erin Ryan has some teeth busted out of her jaw, some damage in her sinuses, and a gash somewhere I think. I suspect she may have some internal injuries, though I'm entirely unsure. I'm just assuming that's the case because she had Hag slugs living in her insides for who-knows-how-long." He frowned, vaguely remembering the boy who was sprinkling chemicals around pointlessly.
"And I think there may be two other students with knife wounds, one is that boy who petrified himself after the spell he aimed at me backfired. A few other students were badly injured by hag slugs but I only know of the one Professor Browne is trying to tend to. I think it's reasonable to deduce she has severe blood loss." He gestured in the direction of the boy, unsure if he was still there behind the curtain of rain, and the girl who was obviously struggling near Erin and Browne.
He... thought that was everyone. If there were some he didn't recall then they likely weren't seriously injured and could head to the hospital wing when they wanted.
He cast a wary glance to the Nurse but kept his paranoia from being around so many adults at bay as best as he could. Thought the tense feeling of panic that was smothering him was hard to keep off his face now that he couldn't rely on the mask to hide his expressions. He had to keep his breathing steady though, no matter how vulnerable he felt at that moment. While hyperventilation wasn't actually life-threatening, it would still just put more pressure on the professors trying to help. "Anyhow, I'll assist you however I can. I know basic first aid and some medical knowledge from reading books." He shrugged hesitantly.

Kels would not in the slightest be expecting what came out of Hisoka's mouth next. He would have to double take, making sure it was indeed the sickly boy who he had previously been considering sending to Mungos for psychiatric evaluation and not one of his colleagues from his previous job. Taking it in stride, Kels would nod along emphatically.
"Ewwwww..." would be Kelsey's reaction to skull crushing. Selim would continue to diligently explain all of the crazy injuries and point out the people. This would be useful information when he was inevitably treating them all later. Then, 'hag slugs.' "Wait'a'sec... hag slugs?"
There were indeed large, gross slug creatures lying motionless around, and as a swamp dweller himself, Kels felt like he ought to recognize them. Instead, it made him think about the prefect Percival Gray, and the strange bite he came by with, his memory too hazy to recall what attacked him. Kels was definitely going to need one of those slugs. As Hisoka finished with his explanation, he ended by offering his help, explaining that he read medical books. What fun summer reading this kid was into... NOT. It reminded Kels more of the kinds of kids he saw who grew up in hospitals, who were trying their hardest to find something interesting to do while they were stuck in bed.
"If everyone is mostly stable, we should get out of this storm! If y'can't carry anyone, staunch bleeding. If not that then... maybe grab me a specimen, if y'can."
He'd nod his head at one of the 'hag slugs' as Hisoka called them. He needed to examine the creature, it reminded him of how disappointed Illowy's face was when he said he didn't know anything about the creatures attacking them. Maybe it was more in Rion's ballpark, but Kels had studied the anatomy of all kinds of species. Also, he was extremely curious. Was it alright to ask a child to carry around a dead animal for him? No, but it was practical!

Relief flooded Juni as she found the nurse. Thank goodness her yelling caught his attention. Really, she was proud of her loud annoying voice. "Right right right, follow me. This way." She had gotten his attention, now she needed to lead the way as he asked. The group was not hard to spot, the giant kid and the crazy Gideon. "Here." She listened to the Nurse call the boy something, and now Juni had a name to match the snake boy. The boy ranted into a long monologue about injuries and Juni just stood there awkwardly.
When the boy mentioned that "that girl" was the cause of the burn, she looked away and pretended to be interested in her fingernails. She made an awkward choking sound, then cleared her throat. Her face was pale, and she felt a bit embarrassed. "I didn't mean- I didn't think- " Cody had cast incendio on Juni one, setting her skirt on fire. Sure, she hurt her leg but it hadn't been serious. She didn't think that a spell could do so much damage.
However, the nurse didn't scold her. Instead, he got to work and started saying orders like a nurse in action. He reminded Juni of both her mother and her father. Her father being in the airforce, and her mother being a nurse herself. The way he took control of the situation.
She was too tiny to carry anyone, really. But that didn't stop her from trying. "I can help Gideon." She said. She carefully made her way to him. "Don't struggle- or think too hard or whatever- I'm going to help you to the nurse... " SHe turned to the nurse. "Will him walking hurt him in anyway? I'll be helping, of course." She looked at the part-giant on the ground. She pointed to him. "Will he- be okay?"
The slugs... right. "There were only three, and they won't be in any good state. They were stabbed, kicked, smashed, and clawed at. "

There had been enough self reflection and growth out of Galton for one night. He had matured too rapidly, fate needed to keep a crown on the Candy King's head. He would not be able to defeat the overinflated sense of pride so easily.
Soon as he cast his spell he felt it. The fear set in as he realized he was not able to move a muscle, arms and legs turned to stone. Down he went. It had been about a year since his wand had last been so dramatic. Spell splitting was normally a proper meal for a wand that desired power; what was more powerful than doubling spells? The wand was, of course, much more refined in it's sense of power, and may have felt that Galton had grown too comfortable in his abilities. Much like fate, the wand would see Galton put in his place.
Fear quickly turned to anger. Galton the Glorious was not supposed to fail his spells. And, if he did, he was not supposed to do it in front of such a crowd. How was he supposed to stand above his peers if he couldn't out cast them?! What would his fans think if they saw him like this? His dueling popularity was surely to take a hit from this. And with all this anger, Galton could do nothing but marinate. To the outside world, the only difference was his elevated breathing as he tried to vent his rage outwards. Something so subtle would likely be hard to notice in the chaos, and so they would just see a living statue of a small boy holding a wand and slug repellent by his side, blood seeping out of the wound exposed.
"Oh, I'm bleeding." Where Galton had been able to ignore it in the chaos, now he felt it. The burning sensation coming from his shoulder; the damp cold robe of matted wool died a deep red from blood was cut open, exposing the wound to the elements. If it stained his robe it would at least match his house colors. The pain only increased the teen's anger. He couldn't scream or thrash about no matter what he tried - and he certaintly couldn't cast to save himself from the pain. He was stuck with his anger and wounded ego for now.

Missed. The only thing her final swing cut, was air. The blade whistled, swooping, but the squelch meant to follow after was never heard. Xailah did not try again. She could not- not without hitting someone by accident. She closed her eyes instead, and listened to her peers stomp the crawler into an unrecognizable shape. They had this handled. She opened her eyes when the sounds of fight ceased. That was the last one. Finally. No- wait. It would appear that it wasn't the last. With one final heave Erin would expel another slug, this one very different than the other three. It lacked the chitinous hide that the other three had; and it appeared to have much less teeth. That was a good sign at least? The wee beasty, though aesthetically different, was still regarded with the uttermost caution. Carefully, it was approached by one of the nearby girls- one of Xailahs fellow fifth years. The girl had been seen here and there. Xailah couldn't recall speaking to her much- then again she didn't speak to most in her year generally. Many did not have her respect, therefore she did not give them her time. The metamorph did not try to stop the girl, rather she watched the interaction with a readied arm. A quiet "careful," was all she could mutter.
Not far from where the small group of Slug Slayers stood, Galton could be seen straining in the mud. Well, straining was a bit generous. He looked to be completely locked up. It was a potentially dangerous predicament when considering the weather- it was a good thing he had not fallen face first into the slush coating the ground. While Xailah would have liked to see how things went with the (normal?) new slug; she felt that Galton was in need of some help. So she sloshed over to him, sparing the occasional glance over her shoulder towards the slug and it's potential friend. Once close to her fellow lion, she shook her head. A pathetic stance to be caught in. He looked like a tortoise that had been turned onto it's shell. This would not do. Xailah stood over the boy, Jürgens blade acting as a index finger while she pointed out the obvious. "You look like you could use a hand." Or in this case, a wand. The Candy King of legend did not deserve to be seen in a position of such compromising vulnerability. Galton had fought valiantly alongside his peers, protecting the ones within close proximity. Even with knife wounds, he did not leave his post, or pause to take care of his injuries. Rather than involuntarily cannibalize his classmates, he had actually helped them. And now it was time to return the favor.

Panic surged through her veins, trying to figure out what in the name of Bodrig was she supposed to do? There was a fourth slug, that she could only hope was as innocent as it looked. There was also a Slytherin, who they could hope was not going to turn into a hag anymore. The imminent threat of this was the reason they were all gathered here right now... mercilessly trying to survive. But others had a different purpose in mind. And the fact that Hugh, who was quickly becoming one of her dearest, was suffering was not something that was lost on her.
Bloom said something aloud about the fourth slug. Something about it being okay. Whether or not that was true was something Serena did not have the time to worry about. Anger surged through her as she heard Hugh's attackers argue. They were verbally debating who was right and wrong in the situation... They were both wrong. In Serena's eyes, they were both wrong. "I'm sorry Erin- I have to go- Hugh... Hugh needs help and I- Please, just be okay- Please. If you need help... please just tell us," She whispered to the Slytherin, releasing her from the hug if it had been allowed or just backing away if it was not accepted in the first place. "Forgive me, Professor but... This. Is. Not. Happening. Not again, not to him," She mumbled, her expression one of disgust and anger as she referenced a situation that she did not know if the professor remembered.
But she remembered it. Hugh had mentioned it not too many days prior. He mentioned it when they were learning about Erin's situation. Even after all of these years... People considered him to be a threat because of his size? What about the monsters who carried knives or considered it appropriate to use their magic against an innocent other?
She did not know what she was meant to do or how to stop this... But she staggered towards Hugh slowly. It was not a long trip but it felt like she was climbing Everest. Every single step took so much willpower, her body shivering in the cold. The only thing that fuelled her movements was anger. The rage burning within, set alight by their actions. Every single word they said was them bringing the oil to cause that fire to burn further. She had half the mind to make them feel the pain that they had caused him. To make them burn. But attacking another student? This was not something she was built to do. There was a reason Serena preferred not to duel. It was not because she was weak or magically inept. It was because she did not want to intentionally hurt people.
The nurse arrived faster than she did. He was focused on... her almost date. Her watery eyes blinked, trying to focus on the boy. Yes. That was Gideon. The guy that Serena almost came with as a date. Or did come with? She had no idea. It did not matter anyway. He was the creepy guy that... she was pretty sure was picking up Erin's teeth? Was he somehow connected to all of this or just a weirdo?
In truth, Serena did not know if there was something about teeth that were useful. Could they be used to convert someone into a hag or like... for polyjuice or something? She had no idea. She just... thought it was him either being really weird and creepy or up to something. But she did not know what he could be up to.
"Will. You. Shut. The. Fuck. Up?" Serena gritted through her clenched jaw, panting as she approached the part-giant that had quickly won a place in her heart. Her glare shot directly to the boy that had been trying to grapple Erin with Howard. She did not know or recognise him. But he was making it seem like he was completely right in his actions. He made it seem like the firestarter was the only one wrong here. He made it sound like he was justified in apparently severing someone's Achilles tendons, as he so proudly admitted. "And stay the hell away from him, you psycho!"
She staggered closer to Hugh, not approaching the kid that she viewed to be nothing short of a monster. Falling to her knees next to him, she pointed her wand at his ankles. She had no idea if this would help but she knew she had to do something. Was this even considered minor? She did not know but she had to try. Someone had to do something. None of them seemed to give a shit about him. Someone had to... care, "Episkey" She whispered, running her hand over his feet. She aimed her spell there, focused on the severed tendon as she heard the boy bragging about it. She did not know enough about muscles or tendons or anatomy to know where or what their names were. By she knew of "Achilles" from Greek mythology and the stories of his heel. By sheer correlation, she searched by his heel and saw the wounds.
Despite staying near Hugh, she addressed her words towards him, a rage burning within her, "Stop acting all high and mighty. Who gave you the right to take away his ability to even run, to potentially paralyse him? You think he's capable of causing damage? Well, what about you? What do we do with monsters like you that take away people's ability to even flee, to save themselves with your hands? Would I be justified in taking away your ability to use those hands that took away his ability to run?" She glared at him. He spoke of the hag slugs. He knew. He bloody knew there were hag slugs and yet he took away someone's ability to run.
The issue she had with him was not just his words, acting as though he was right. But it was that his actions were cold and calculative. He evaluated risks, apparently. He made a decision, knowing the consequences. It was not done on a whim. It was not an action done by someone who was scared or acting out. The firestarter was not right in trying to burn another but she sounded scared like she was just trying to do something... It could have been a mistake, an accident, anything. This boy? He chose to do this on purpose. There were other ways to stop someone, without potentially doing permanent damage to them. The glue spell, for instance, would have done the same thing but would not risk Hugh losing the ability to use his legs.
She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, as she panted. She glared up at the faces of the attackers, as though burning the memory of the face into her mind. Tears streamed down her face - both out of anger but also out of fear for what might have happened to him, for what could happen to Erin - but they were hidden by the storm. Her body shivered and swayed a little. She felt sleepy? Or dizzy... delirious? She had no idea.
In truth, she was in absolutely no position to fight either of them. If either chose to continue this barrage of attacks, she would be powerless to stop them. But it did not stop her from trying. If either approached, she would grip her wand and point it directly towards them. She would scream at them to stay the hell back. They were warned.
Perhaps if she had the guts to be as strong as Hugh, she might have retaliated. She would have incendio duo-ed the small girl or diffindo-ed the boy's ankles or hands in return. Take away his ability to run or hold his weapon. But she was weak. She did not have the strength or courage to brutally attack them, even if it was revenge.
Or perhaps she knew that an eye for an eye made the whole world blind... Whatever it was, Serena did not attack them. She could not bring herself to. "Hugh... come on, wake up..." She whispered softly, as she moved towards his head, gently running her shaking hand over it as she tried to shake him awake or remove the mud. She brushed some of the hair off his face, pushing it back. She did not know what was wrong with him... what the hell had happened whilst her back was turned? How did she wake him up? What the hell was wrong with this school and why were they hellbent on seeing part-giants as threats at these stupid balls? Ironic given that he was the one who bought them all together for the sole purpose of trying to stop Erin from becoming a hag - to save Erin, to save them all. And this... this was how they treated him in return? Consider him to be a threat that needed to be stopped from "prancing around", just leaving him unconscious in the mud...

Some girl ran up to him as he was tying to assist with the wound and started ranting to him about the situation without knowing any of the detail. Honestly, everyone was so emotionally charged tonight, and they really needed to simmer down and use their brains. He sighed, pondering if he should even bother trying to argue with her when she had obviously already labelled him as a monster. For what? Trying to keep a kid from dying due to an over-stressed student's decision to crack open their skull? She acted like the boy was never going to walk again because of this. Even as she started to try and use a spell to heel the wound.
"You seem to be lost in the situation. Hugh, was it? He tried to crush that kid over there's skull, and he did it to one other student as well. He may have been provoked but that is a very wrong response to provoking. any action other than 'crush his skull' would've been better... well... aside from outright murder, I guess. I didn't attack him out of malice or because I think he's inherently dangerous for being a half-giant. I just wanted to make sure the other boy didn't get injured further." Honestly this was exhausting. "Here, I'll put it bluntly, I'm bad at magic, I use physical means to get around the issue. But I didn't have any intentions of just leaving him like this afterwards. I was going to treat his wounds as best as I could if the nurse didn't get here." He glanced over at her with concern, noticing the blood. "You really need to stop moving, though. You're bleeding out. Don't worry about Hugh, the nurse is here and all those wounds can be fixed with magic if we get him to the hospital wing. The head trauma, though, needs to be treated as quickly as possible. It's a very serious injury, death serious if it doesn't get fixed."
He shifted over to her, offering the last of his bandages and disinfectant, if she didn't take them he'd just place them on the ground in front of her."You should try to bind your wound to stop the bleeding. I don't suggest using healing spells on yourself in that state. higher risk of it backfiring I'd think?"[/b] He glanced over the nurse to see if he wasn't just spouting nonsense. He frowned, " Or, you know, let the nurse treat the wound. I don't need the bandages right now since, well, everyone's firing spells around to fix things."[/b] There was a bit of irritation, or envy in his voice as he said that.
Standing up. "If you want to make sure Hugh is ok, you can try to treat your own injury and help him or others to the hospital wing? There's a lot of injured students here."[/b] He commented, then glanced at the nurse, "I'll try and snag a slug for you, Nurse Brumby, I'm exhausted, which... ah isn't anything new admittedly. After that, I'll help people to the hospital wing. I think there are a few slugs in that bag though, for some reason the boy was collecting them, which, ah, is slightly concerning. They'll definitely be safer in your hands."[/b] He gestured to the bag that the larger boy had been trying to snag.
Well, at least the girl who tried to burn the now named half-giant, Hugh, has admitted it probably wasn't the best idea. Honestly, he wondered how she didn't draw the line from a spell that sets things ablaze to it being very, very dangerous, but perhaps she just hadn't been thinking straight?
And hopefully, the new arrival didn't keep aggravating her wound, she looked very pale and it was making him concerned that she'd collapse. She had been through a lot so he didn't blame her for making him out to be a heartless monster, stress, exhaustion, injuries, he had experienced it all and knows the headspace like the back of his hand.
With the adrenaline now gone, his annoying tic returned. A tickle, a pain at the back of his throat, and a following, powerful dry coughing fit, making his body shudder. It took him a bit to get out of it, and it was probably being aggravated by the environment and his exhaustion. Unpleasant as it was, he had adapted and figured out how to recover from the fits quick enough to get on with his day without much hassle.
When the fit ended, he shook his head and went to search for any remaining slugs that hadn't been collected by the head trauma boy. He was curious about their biology as well... perhaps he'd risk asking the Nurseif he could be there when he examined them. What spell or biological thing made them turn people feral, were they similar to parasites that take over the brains of insects to make them move? Likely it was just a curse set on them but he was indeed curious... he also hoped that while they were living inside Erin they didn't damage or scar any of her organs...
He had many questions now that he wasn't focused on fighting or healing, and he wanted to find answers for all of them.

With the clock striking Midnight, this is the final mod post for the 2021 Fall Ball. Thank you so much for participating, and you are more than welcome to continue to roll for your own actions. It has been an absolute blast putting on this very peaceful and fun festival for you all.
Cats and Candy
The candy king would no doubt be losing followers after his rather poor attempt at the full body-bind curse. He froze himself! And yet he called himself a captain? Galton Lansdale, fortunately, was saved from further embarrassment by the casting of the general counter-spell by one Xailah Alptraum. The boy would not need to wriggle to come free, his limbs loosening on their own as the enchantment faded.Xailah’s Finite

Voices were raised, the argument between Selim Faust and Serena Towers loud even over the sound of the falling rain and crackling thunder. Still, both had the same general plan to solve the problem of the crippled part-giant, even if Selim himself was the cause of said problem. The peculiar boy would press bandages against the part-giant’s ruptured achilles, the blood ceasing in its flow, as he dressed the wound. Unfortunately, the giant’s future business partner was not quite so successful with her own attempt to assist the boy. Perhaps her anger coloured the magic, but all her spell managed to do was wound the unconscious part-giant further, colour fading slightly from his cheeks.Selim Dresses the Wound

It seemed that such issues with performance were not limited merely to Serena. Even professional healers occasionally suffered from poor casting, it seemed. For Kelsey Brumby too had problems with his spell. The blonde boy too would suffer a similar fate to the brunette who had broken his skull. The misfired episkey opening the wound upon his head ever-so-slightly.

Bloom Silverton approached the new slug, the pretty little thing nothing like those that had escaped from Erin’s mouth earlier. In fact, were it not a slimy little pest, one could even call it cute. Entirely harmless, entirely unremarkable.
Mercy of Thor
The rain continued, yet the torrential downpour that had doused student, teacher and slug alike began to slow to a more stable drip. Water would fall among the wounded and their carers, the occasional rumble of thunder or flash of lightning punctuating the moment, but each grew more distant and slower between approaches with each passing moment. The storm had plateaued, there would be no more danger from the decreasing winds, nor from the refreshing drizzle of rain. Whatever had come from the night, it seemed that the worst of the danger had passed.
