RPing as Durmstrang iNPC Rudolf Novikov
interacting with Arjan Oberoi (@Serena Towers)
Many, if not most, of Rudolf's classmates had been to Hogwarts before — but for Dolf, this was an awe-inspiring first. He'd had a vague impression of the place after last summer, when he'd heard countless stories about the castle and what went on inside its walls from the Hogwarts students at the Quidditch World Cup. His mother liked to reminisce about her school days as well, although she never went into great architectural detail. In the weeks leading up to this trip, Dolf had tried to picture the castle from what little information he had.

When he saw it for the first time, towering over the surface of the lake they arrived from, he knew that he couldn't have possibly thought of all of that.

There was so much to see even on their short hike from the lake to the campgrounds where they'd be staying. The lake itself was a fine sight, and Dolf wondered what sort of things lived in his depths as he peered into the water on his way around its edge. The castle above was a mass of turrets, towers and bridges that soared in every direction. In some ways, Dolf supposed, it wasn't all too different than Durmstrang was. Still, it took a great effort to tear his eyes away and focus on getting settled in.

Come evening, they entered the castle at last for dinner, filing into the Great Hall where students from four other schools mixed and mingled. They were encouraged to sit wherever they liked, and shortly the Hogwarts headmaster stood to make a speech. The message was pleasant, but Dolf found himself unable to remember the words a few seconds after the man had sat down. His focus was on other things — namely, finding some sort of company in this growing crowd. He hovered by the doors for a moment, standing up straight in his Durmstrang uniform, searching for other bodies in the same robes. Finally, he caught sight of a familiar face. Well...familiar enough.

"Oberoi," Dolf said as he neared the table, stopping across from where his schoolmate was seated. It was meant to be a greeting; it sounded mostly like a statement. "Can I sit?" he asked in English, taking the liberty without waiting for an answer. He folded his hands on the table and looked at the other boy, realizing with a start that he might not even remember who Dolf was. They'd shared a tent at the Quidditch World Cup in London, but they were hardly friends. He'd talked to Arjan no more than twice that whole summer. And he was only sitting with him now because he was the first person that Dolf had recognized.

He considered introducing himself — just in case — and nearly did, but changed his mind at the last minute. Instead, he straightened his shoulders, conscious of the (slight) height difference between the two boys, and gestured to the room around them. Again he spoke in English. "It's impressive. This place." After a beat, he added, "Isn't it?"

It was painfully clear, to Dolf at least, that he had little else to say to his companion. Oh well — maybe Arjan would sense it as well, and take the lead on the conversation. Then again, just from looking at him, that didn't seem too likely. Dolf would have to keep one eye on the crowd, on the look out for a more familiar face. What was Maksim up to, after all?

Despite the elegant structures Bonnibel had seen, she had done her best to keep herself composed. While she was used to hiding her emotions, there was no capability of hiding the sheer awe in her eyes. She had heard her father attended Hogwarts from her mother, but her other relatives had insisted on otherwise. It was hard to believe when it all felt so new to her. The towering castle and the elegant lights- it was difficult not to admire the architecture. Still, she kept her American pride close to her heart. Sure this was a grand framework- but that was all it was. Ilvermorny may not have come first, but in her eyes it was vastly superior.

By the time dinner dawned, she had had her fill of fascinating arches and moving portraits and now desired some real food inside of her. She would have taken time to admire the beautiful candles and long tables if her stomach was not growling like a bear. Instead she could only focus on the wonderful scent of food and the thing standing between her and it- the gigantic mounds of students.

Bonnibel Grace was a wander- there was no doubting that. At lunch it was rare to see her sit with the same group more than three times in a row. Most people knew her name, but few people knew truly who she was. To be candid, she liked it that way. Nobody could dislike her if they never knew who she was in the first place. With that in mind, she felt her best bet would be to sit with someone who could provide three requirements.

1) Easy access to food
2) She did not already know
3) Was more lost than she was

The third one had already eliminated all Hogwarts students and the second eliminated most Ilvermorny , but with a quick scan of the room she was able to identify who seemed the most lost or unfamiliar. At the table that she could only assume was Gryffindor's, there was a boy who seemed to not quite blend in. She was starving enough that she did not take an hour to plan what to do next. Instead, she took action.

She walked over to him as formal as she possibly could possibly manage in hopes she looked like she was aware of what she was doing. She turned to the person next to the boy, attempting to not be direct. It was a strategy she had used many times before.

"Pardon me, could you slide to your left just a tad? Apologies for the inconvenience." she inquired with a tone that screamed "I'm Better Than You" to anyone who had even slight social skills.

As they moved over to the left, she gave them a genuine smile and a "Thank you for your generosity." as she took a seat. She grabbed a plate from the center of the table, glancing back and fourth to make sure if that was proper behavior. She refused to come off as idiotic. She turned to the boy next to her who now seemed to come off as slightly older. She might have made a mistake- no no, Bonnibel Grace NEVER made a mistake. This was entirely the boy's fault somehow. She looked him up and down.

"How was the trip?" she inquired, not even bothering to ask him if he was from Hogwarts.

For the last several days, Levi had been giddy. More so than usual, and this is a surprising thing, because the smile he wore so proudly was now pinned beneath his eyes with deep stitching. Any façade of normalcy had crumbled away, melted with flames that burned on fuels of excitement, and what was left, a happiness so pure it could be disturbing. The grin didn’t falter, not when unexpected mail arrived towed by a callous tawny owl, not when he was stabbed with the repulsed gazes of those who didn’t understand, and certainly not when he’d bumped into an elder student and took the verbal beating of his life. So far.

A ball. There was a formality about that word, it bred visions of gowns that dragged on tile behind porcelain dolls, colors that contrasted the wearer’s skin with such perfection you’d swear they’d come from their tenderest dreams. Everyone moving in perfect sync, only speaking in hush voices as they weep, tears of gold falling delicately from their eyes and fragmenting on the floor, leaving a glittery shine after each timely step. Levi would suffocate beneath the fairly lights, find himself engulfed in falling roses, and the crown atop his head would gain a jewel with every heart that shattered, with every girl that tore from the crowd in a broken outpour.

It wasn’t just a dance, there was an opportunity sheltered by the veils, it was the first of many. It was a first impression. It could be a last impression if he did not lay the spades on the table starting round. Still, the boy had to collect them first, his tickets, his coins, the starting gems for the headdress of a sovereign.

Clearly Levi had not spoken with all the blue-blooded figurines that roamed the castle, though there would be no shocked gasps should he ever find that his name was known in a shadowy glow. Not all of his previous interactions had gone particularly well: it took that powerless alone thought to be reminded of the creatures that grabbed at the wind rather than away from it. This was forsaking the riveting ghost he’d met beneath the trees, an older student who killed him with her eyes and revived him with her voice. Wherever his reflections and aspirations trailed, the point remained. The watery distortion of a painful memory was not so strong to disguise the gist: he needed a new chance.

An unknown face trailing the halls where the only familiarity laid in what they bled would not be enough, not for now. Think fresher, the Gryffindor had repeated to no one in particular for nights on end, until fresher fell into that tired grasp and spun in a helter skelter around his little finger. Different schools, joining at this one, a thousand faces from varying places that called to their future peer. It was tonight, this evening, what would usually be a measly, friendless dinner turned spirited. It was more. It was a promise.

It was a damn shame the boy couldn’t dress to impress this time; after taunting hours of contemplation and vigilant observance of the sea of students flooding in and out of the common room this evening, it was ultimately decided that those red uniform robes would be ideal. It left Levi distinguished from the current of newcomers and took less risks, a consideration brought on by a certain mismatching pink and blue outfit he’d been tortured with on the walk down the corridors. This could be for the best: the child was blissfully unaware of the lack of style he was born with. That’s simply what you get when mommy dresses you like a neglected childhood doll.

Tonight, height did no favors. There were ceiling-level heads constantly obscuring his vision more than a meter ahead, so it was a true miracle that the target was so easy to find. Standing there in the doorway, as though waiting patiently to be found.

What did it, you may wonder? Had to be the outfit. Only a pureblood would stray so fashionably from the status quo, appearing like a male model among children that still had graphic t-shirts with decorative sequins in their home wardrobes. This boy, almost frighteningly taller than Levi, was bare in terms of tinsel but pleasing to the eye. Each article went smoothly together, complimenting both each other and him, and his hands were fiddling with something indiscernible around his neck. They dropped to his sides as the shorter brunet approached, though as he neared, Levi swore there was something familiar around him, looming. Perhaps in the air somewhere….

“Evan, if you don’t go shower right this instant! I am not allowing you to take me to dinner when you smell like a teenage boy! It’s our anniversary for God’s sake!”

Hmm. Wonder where that memory came from. Damn the timeless effect of axe body spray.

Among the positive energy, there was a slight smile on the student’s face that sealed the deal with an expensive cover; he was the one Levi needed. If he were any more royal, his flesh would be purple. “Lost? You could sit with me if you’d like,” He offered upon approaching the older stranger, the two boys still lingering in the doorway as a small crowd gathered outside. They were all either trapped in the cages of their own relentless demonic anxieties or amused in warping and inviting conversations. It was the atmosphere Levi was born for, breathing in their pleasantries and out their worries.

Charles emerged from his fellow Durmstrangs dressed in, not his uniform, but all-black, and towing a small (well, 'small' meaning about a centimeter shorter than Cassie) blonde kid along behind him and followed by an annoyingly tall, and also blonde, girl. Where was he getting them from?! Cassie returned his half-hug, saying in response to his opening line, "Ha-ha. Mind you though, what's the chance of that happening? There's, like, several hundred students here. Not much space to be lonely, if you ask me." Spoken like a true extravert. Charles then switched to English, and Cassie stepped back a little to look him over. "You too. I'm sure you've grown taller though. Or is that just me shrinking?" Then, Charles introduced the blonde boy, and Cassie grinned at them both. "Well! I dunno what I've done to deserve that description-" her eyes twinkled "-but I'll take it. Hello there, Werner-Charlie's-friend!" Charles next introduced the blonde girl, who then added her surname. Cassie grinned at her as well, and held out both fists - one to Werner, and one to Iris, for a double fist-bump. " Heya, Iris! Cool name. I'm Cassie Heather, really, but everyone calls me Cassie. Or Cass. Whatever. Two first names, and a double-barrelled last name. I dunno what my parents were thinking. C'mon, don't leave me hanging!" Cassie would keep her hands insistantly in the air until Iris and Werner fist-bumped her back. If needed, she would also explain what a first-bump actually was.

As they made their way towards the Gryffindor table, Charles called out for someone else, and Cassie smirked at him. "Charlie, I see you've made some friends. Congratulations," she teased. The statement was immediately enforced by someone whom Cassie was fairly sure she recognised from Beauxbatons. Opie? No, Ophé, that was it. Though a little surprised by their apparent friendliness with Charles, Cassie stood back and let them have their moment, giving Werner a sideways glance as she did so, one end of her mouth curving upwards. "Don't worry," she faux-whispered to him. "It seems dearest Charles has become a little more sociable since I saw him last." She winked, and raised her voice so she that Charles could hear as well, now that Ophé had gone. "Speaking of which, where did he find you?" Cassie gave him a mischievous smile. "I'm sure you're his first friend at Durmstrang." She turned to Iris, who had just said something in a language Cassie couldn't understand. "And what school are you from? Durmstrang? That definitely wasn't French. I would know, I'm from Beauxbatons myself, though I dunno if you could tell since I don't have a French accent. It confuses people sometimes. Anyway, Beauxbatons is very cool." By this time, Cassie Heather had completely forgotten that she was wearing her Beauxbatons uniform, which meant that Iris probably could, actually, tell what school she came from.

Once Cassie had recieved an answer from her poor subjects, she wheeled around and lead the group around the Gryffindor table, searching for Scarlett. "I'm looking for Scarlett," she told Charles. "You remember her, right? The one I'm matching outfits with. I wanna introduce you." Every time she saw a mop of red hair, Cassie would perk up, before realising that there was a suprising number of red-haired students at Hogwarts.

Sie war verängstigt, total nervös.

Lucietta was fascinated by this new world, this new place. And now she was a witch? This was simply brilliant.

Portkeys were so fun. Lucietta couldn't figure out why anyone might get tired of magic. She was in one place, then getting sucked inside out, then suddenly she had popped up somewhere else across the world - she never wanted to ride an airplane again. To think that a year ago, Lucietta was just a normal human being - she couldn't.

Visibly shrinking at the prospect of actually talking to so many people, Lucietta strayed behind everyone else from Ilvermorny, taking a moment to admire the castle and the architecture. It was a majestic place, and Lucietta couldn't wait to explore it, or better yet, draw it. To capture the beauty of something in a mere piece of parchment or canvas - that was Lucietta's dream, to be capable of such talent.

"It's amazing," Lucietta said under her breath, in her native tongue. English wasn't completely new to her - she lived in America, after all - but with her family's standards and the transition from moving all over, she'd picked up a variety of languages - fluent German, French, and English. Perhaps that would be helpful, with all the different people here and whatnot.

They expected Lucietta to be able to pick a seat. She couldn't - too many people, too many things going on. She wanted to be able to talk to everyone, to learn more about all this, but she was nervous. Talking wasn't her strength, much less choosing a place to sit, go up to someone being confident and outgoing. That wasn't Lucietta.

And so Lucietta just stood there.

Eloise is supposed to arrive today. My French cousin who is in Beauxbatons. This morning, I put on her favorite dress on purpose.
After my breakfast, I went down to work a bit. I have some homework to do and I don't want to fall behind. Then I went for a walk by the lake with some friends.
It was good but I wanted to see my cousin again. It's been since Christmas that we haven't seen each other and we haven't exchanged many letters. So I went to lunch and then waited. I'm not an overly emotional girl but I couldn't wait to see her again. Eloise, my dear sister. My best friend and confidante. She is one of the only ones to know. Namely that I am Parseltongue.
I go up the stairs to the entrance hall. All of a sudden, I hear some noise outside. There is commotion. One of the schools has just arrived! But which? I prefer to wait here, to be sure not to make a mistake and to shame myself in front of everyone.
The hall door opens and lets in Miss Jensen, followed by the students of ... Beauxbatons! So I look for Eloise with my eyes. When I find her, I run down and my cousin does the same as she walks up to me.
-Astoria! C'est trop cool de te voir! Euh, excuse moi... It's so great to see you!
-Elo! I'm too, too, too, too happy to see you! Comment ça va?

How are you?
After the mega-hug that we reserve for this kind of event, I take her to the stairs to show her around the castle.

[font=Kaufmann Bd BT]He was still mourning his arrival at Hogwarts when someone decided to mess with his hair. Fearing he'd find some older student who wanted a victim to torture, Werner flinched and looked up.

It was not, thankfully, a power hungry student.

" Hey Charles," he spoke quietly, almost whispering. Werner smiled slightly at the phrase about the birds- he had been watching them earlier. There had been a flock of blackbirds- swirling around in the sky. Birds. Bird after bird after bird. But as always- he had been towed away from them by the large crowd of Durmstrangs, one small body in hundreds of larger ones. Standing up, he followed Charles to another table, where he was promptly introduced to an older Beauxbatons girl. Who made a fist and raised it, almost as if trying to punch him.

He flinched and wormed away from her.

After some more introductions were made, Charles led the small group towards the Gryffindor table, where Cassie blabbed on. He flinched again as she spoke to him.

" I don't think he found me. I think he found himself." This was said very quietly- too quietly almost for anyone to hear, really.

Now that they were nearing the Gryffindors even more, Werner craned his neck, trying to search for a particular tall, brown haired girl. After they'd traversed the length of the table, he gave up. Too many Gryffindors.
The previous summer, he'd met her when she was visiting Germany with a few friends. After getting bludgered in the arm with a giant baseball, he'd kept away from the boy- it wasn't like he spoke English very well. However, he found Suzuki interesting- she spoke German well, and seemed interested in Werner's skill with gadgets and the like.

" It's amazing." The words were spoken in German, and Werner recognized his native tongue. Turning around, he was met with the face of a blonde- nearly white haired, really, girl. She resembled his older sister- the same pale complexion, the same almost-white hair that seemed to root in the Schmeikl family.

" Warte- wait," he told Charles, first in German, than in English.

" Hi. Would... " Searching around in his mind for something reasonable to say, he decided on one, and carried forth in German. " Do you like birds- I mean, would you like to come with us? We're just looking around..."

It was terrible.

Who just walked up to others and asked if they liked birds? Well, apart from him.

Time to rely on second impressions.

Rosella hadn't been sitting down long at the table when someone else sat down beside her. They seemed rather social and Russian girl smiled as the other introduced herself. "Hello Nikita. I am Rosella- from Koldovstoretz. I have heard quite a bit about Durmstrang, what is it like?" she questioned, her English choppy as it wasn't the language she spoke in on a daily basis. She spoke it well enough that others were able to understand what she was saying though.

Rosella noticed a male sit down out of the corner of her eye, smiling when he smiled at her. She gave him a quick nod of her head in greeting before turning back to Nikita. She slowly brushed some of her red-hair behind her ear before noticing Nikita's almost matching red hair. "I love your hair by the way. Stunning," she giggled a little at the end as she glanced around to see if she spotted at of the other Koldovstoretz students were nearby. She noticed a few of the younger students talking with each other, although far enough away she was unable to hear anything the three of them were saying. Rosella assumed they were not on the greatest of terms with each other by the way the girl spun around to talk to the one boy, although she honestly could not remember the names of the younger students that came along with them to Hogwarts.

Mentioning The Princess @Willow Anderson, Phyllis Stanwood @Bridget Collins, Karilyna Kawahara @Thora Larkston, Greta Fransson @Evelynn Decipio

Theodore was thrilled that he got a chance to enter Hogwarts again so soon. He had been annoying Everett, who he still called "Princess", Phyllis and Karilyna about it for days already, almost unable to speak of anything else. His letter exchange with Greta had died a while ago, sadly, he wished that their correspondence would have lasted a little longer. Since the chess combat last summer, where Rett received his not so flattering new name, he had been thinking about the Durmstrang girl a lot.

Their communication turned out difficult as they were speaking different languages, but Theo's younger sister Anabelle had been helpful in that case and Greta's english was understandable enough. Although her grammar was likely about as bad as his had to be. He didn't mind, it had been fun while it lasted.

As soon as they entered Hogwarts' huge dining hall, he started looking for her though. The hall was crowded with children chatting in different languages, their were french people, if he wasn't mistaken, and he wad sure that he picked up some german as well. Eventually he gave up trying to stay with his friends and let the crowd push him forwards until he found a seat.

The students at this table were Gryffindor, as a student sitting across him told the Thunderbird, which was the... well, sort of equivalent to his house, if he recalled it correctly. He looked at a boy who was sitting opposite him, who was obviously not from Hogwarts either and seemed to be talking to a girl. The boy had brown hair and looked like he was a bit older than Theo, though not much. "Crowded, isn't it?", Theo said rather excited. "I'm Theo Duncain from Ilvermorny. I don't think we met, have we?", he asked him with a bright smile, before his gaze wandered to the girl. "...But we have. Aren't you in my year? Sorry, I can't remember your name right now..."

The formality, the production that her school deems appropriate to put on almost embarrasses Clara. It is not elegant or graceful as the school's staff may believe, but rather pompous and gaudy, but it is how they do things at Beauxbatons.

Clara and her cohorts were taken to the courtyard where they unpacked and rested for a short time before getting ready for dinner. While some of her peers went with fanciful outfits to show off, Clara opted for a simpler approach of a hand-painted white bottom down under a pair of green, corduroy overalls with a thick black belt cinching at her waist.

Clara's roommates start to head out to the Hogwarts Great Hall, but Clara simply sits outside, waiting for her older brother Milo to come to collect her. Clara, contrary to the common belief by her teachers is not a lonely girl, she just prefers the quiet and, when in need of companionship, finds that her brother and his friends are more than enough.

Milo walks out of his own quarters and finds his sister easily. He is dressed in his uniform, looking perpetually handsome. He gelled his hair back too, something Clara notes with an eye roll.

Walking in tandem with him, the Durand siblings look around in wonder. The Hogwarts grounds are magnificent. Unlike the groomed elegance of their school, Hogwarts is a wild sort of beauty, one that beckons Clara into its depths.

Milo notices this too and Clara nods in response, "It is wonderful."

The two pause and Milo gives Clara a piece of his wisdom, warning her to be careful. Clara looks down, she knows her brother is right, but sometimes she wonders if her lack of friends is due to having such an overprotective brother. With a sigh, she responds, "Yes yes, I understand."

Milo's eyes start to wander and Clara follows his gaze over to girl sitting at a table. She looks nice, too nice. Clara sees her brother's eyes fill with that flirtatious sparkle, and though he clearly wants to be alone with this girl, Clara follows him over.

Clara lets her brother fumble with English, letting out a slight laugh at his fail of a compliment. Clara has always been more adept at English than her brother, much to his dismay. Giving the girl a soft smile, "Hello, let me apologize for my brother." Ignoring any look Milo may give her, Clara sticks her hand out to the girl, "I am Clara, this is Milo and it is lovely to meet you."
