When you had a Quidditch Stadium as your only venue for toils and obstacles, there wasn't much you could do with it to make a race track. However! Ying and Della did just that for the foreign students, so Alyssea figured it wasn't too hard to plant a few paper arrows around the place using whatever pages she had left in her notebooks and gluing spells. Besides, the stadium was already conditioned for a winter theme, so she could frost up some extra areas with spells for some chaos. Not too bad! Of course, the track wouldn't be as deadly as the one she made back in February since she wasn't allowed any creatures, but it would still be a thrill regardless.

Finding people to play the game wasn't difficult, to be honest. The increased interest in broom racing certainly occurred in the foreign schools; Hogwarts wasn't the only one having to expand team sizes to accommodate for the interest. The only person she recognised was Cyrus, so learning everyone's names before they set off on her track was very important.

Alyssea audibly sighed and brushed the figurative dust off her hands as they all met her at the starting line. She smiled at each one. "Best of luck! Just remember to follow the paper arrows lying around the place. The track basically runs around the entire stadium, using the different levels and towers as your obstacles. Try not to get lost.

"The rules are simple. Fly fast and stay safe, fling whatever spells and rocks you find on the ground to your heart's content. Just keep it clean! I would not like anything to catch fire today since this is government property, thank you. Now, take your marks..."

Alyssea stepped to the side and let them line up at the starting line. "Get set... GO!"

He could have been on the beach right now. His mother was currently in Costa del Sol, enjoying warm sand, the sonorous surf, and long, languid naps on the beach, if her letters were anything to go by. Judas could have been there with her, touring the Alcazaba and and enjoying the view off the Puente Nuevo, but no, he'd elected to go to Summer Camp. Or, more accurately, Winter Camp. He enjoyed duelling, certainly, but he also enjoyed actually spending his summer months tanning and relaxing in luxury. His own hubris had certainly been his downfall, though he'd die long before ever admitting to it. There was precious little time spent with his mother these days, between his long months at school and her longer trips for work, and he couldn't help but quietly kick himself for passing up two uninterrupted weeks with her for this.

How does one while away the hours in a snowy prison devoid of all the base creature comforts he so justly deserved? Broom racing, apparently. Not that Judas was particularly inclined towards flying one way or the other, though he'd been taught to do so just as adequately as every other young wix of standing his age. There was hardly any joy in it for him, though there was a petty part of him that refused to admit that coming to the Brits' horrible little camp had been a mistake, and thus, if he must be here, then he should at least try to get in some early networking opportunities with his peers at other schools, even if said networking was to occur on brooms. Though if he was ever to do this regularly, he was really going to have to owl his grand-mère grandmother and request a more sufficient broom.

He would introduce himself to whichever teammates were interested in a how-do-you-do, reaching out a hand to each them to shake, if they were so inclined. Should they refuse it, they'd be met with a good-natured, unconcerned shrug. "Crane, Judas Crane. This will be my second year at Beaux. My hobbies are painting, the trumpet, and winning." Having been raised by an American expatriate mother, his American accented English may very well have been jarring coming from a boy claiming to hail from Beauxbatons. Once introductions had been made, he would send his teammates a wink and a lazy little salute before mounting his broom and taking his place at the starting line.

Cyrus had been waiting all day for this! While camp was fun, racing was even more fun, and Cyrus's exuberance practically melted all the snow around him. He hadn't been cold at all today, instead soaking up what sunlight he could in anticipation of the broom race later in the day.

Then there was the fact that it was a broom race, which made the idea in general considerably less fun. Although he had flown in classes and even a few other times, he generally disliked the idea of doing athletics on a broom. Quidditch was something you would not catch him doing – being that high up on such a small item was just a disaster waiting to happen. But racing seemed slightly less dangerous – after all, he felt he would probably remain closer to the ground, and if he just hugged his broom the entire time, it would be rather hard for him to fall off unless something hit his broom... which, here in the Quidditch stadium, did not seem likely.

Cyrus knew a few of those here. He'd talked to Alyssea, and he'd had a friendly duel with Chiaki. He would give both of them a very exuberant wave. He then glanced at those he didn't know, and loudly, he said, 'Hi everyone, I'm Cyrus, from Ilvermorny. I, uh...' Uncharacteristically, he trailed off, and his usually-confident tone faded when he added, '...I think we'll, ah, have a great time, um... I'm excited to race with you all. Good luck, everyone!'

His smile had faded only to return when he said Good luck, although the smile's return was partially because he had noticed someone else. His hands flapped next to his sides upon his excitedly seeing Elias, who he considered something of a friend and almost-little-brother. Excitedly, he signed, Hi, Elias!! It's nice to see you here!

His sign language was by no means perfect. His hands moved awkwardly at best, an attempted flurry of fingers and palms and not-always-correct hand signs before he finally gripped onto his broom again, his knuckles whitening as he held the wide handle of his Oakshaft 79 in a vice grip – as if it might have flown away on its own.

The broom was especially well-kept, very glossy without even a twig out of place. Out of all of the brooms Cyrus could have brought with him, this beautiful oaken antique had to have been the safest. Nonetheless, his deep blue eyes narrowed whenever he looked at it, which happened to be often, his gaze darting about but generally landing on the broom at least once as he made his rounds of checking in on his surroundings. His left foot tapped against the ground, his wizard crocs squeaking slightly in response to the motion. He stood taller than usual, his back straight, his smile fading as he glanced away from Elias and his gaze returned to his broom.

He sighed to himself and stared at the starting line. He listened to Alyssea talk, but his stomach sank with every word she spoke. He swallowed thickly and forced himself to line up, readying himself to mount the broom. There was only one way to conquer his fears, after all... and there was no harm in having fun while doing so, he supposed.

2. Phoenix Feather: +2 Acc on spells, 10% chance of casting a random additional spell at your target
• Wand owner receives +2 Accuracy on spells
• After a successful Wisdom Check and potential Auto-Fail Checks, an additional d20 is rolled. If the result is 19 or 20, a random Duelling spell is selected from the caster's Trunk. This spell will target the same player who the caster was aiming at with their first spell (even if either of the two are spells that do not require Acc/Eva rolls).
• The second spell is an auto-success (does not require a Wisdom or Auto-Fail Check), but will have to go through the Targeting and Accuracy phase independent of the first spell.
• In case the caster is affected by Alluring, the second spell is also redirected towards the new target.
• In case the first spell does not have a target (or more than one target), the second spell targets a random player apart from the caster (in addition to the original target, if applicable).
• If the caster uses Spell Spread, only the primary cast (not the spread) has the chance of an additional spell being cast.

Despite her switch to Mahou's quidditch team, Chiaki couldn't help but miss her beloved broom racing. It had been her favourite for years, and it was an adjustment to no longer be doing it so often. She did enjoy being on the quidditch team, she really did, but there was something thrilling about broom racing that, in her opinion, couldn't be beaten by any other sport. If only she had more time during the school year, she would've potentially been able to juggle both, but sadly, the school had made her prioritise her work, meaning she had had to make a choice. And, in the end, she'd chosen what she thought would help her friends. So, when she'd seen an opportunity to compete this summer, even unofficially, she'd jumped at the chance. She'd missed the sport far too much.

She woke up early that day, even though the race wasn't until the early afternoon, wanting to prepare. It had been so long, she was scared that she'd have lost some her skills. Quidditch was a vastly different sport to broom racing, with very different skills. After warming up somewhat, she'd tried to arrive a little earlier to meet her new teammates, but it seemed that a few others had already arrived before her. Greeting them, she offered a smile, though her eyes darted towards the the course instinctively.

"It's great to meet all of you. I am Chiaki, from Mahoutokoro, and I too would like to win this race. I believe we can do it."

Mounting their broom, they prepared to begin the race.

What's more fun about Summer camp is the sports activities. I signed up for Broom Racing. I already did Quidditch (even if it was only for a few minutes). I wanted to do a Broom Race where I didn't have come in when the race already started. Though that race had to be stopped for undisclosed reasons. The only other sport I haven't tried yet is duelling. I will probably try that next year.

The track looked much more easier than the one I had raced in back in January. Those trees I had crashed into hurt. I arrived at the starting line with my Comet 260. Most of the students here were international students. They were from the other schools outside of Hogwarts. There were only two students from Hogwarts. That was me and another first year called Cass. I've seen him in class but we've never really talked to each other before.
"Hey guys! Ready to race? I'm Alejandro and I'm from Hogwarts." I said to the rest of my team.
I mounted my broom and listened to Alyssea explain the rules. My palms began to sweat as the race start drew nearer and nearer. As soon as I heard the word 'go' I kicked off from the ground and soared into the air.

Miharu was just standing there, perhaps thinking about her life choices and contemplating life while staring at the course that’s been set for this broom race. This is the second time that she signed up for an unofficial camp activity, much more, something unrelated to Quiddicth. Her first train of thought quickly went to: What would mother think?

She had strictly been told to never let herself get distracted by anything else other than her studies and her Quidditch performance. In a way, it was suffocating as there are things that she wanted to do, to try, to have… ‘fun’. This is one of them but of course, she worries about what her parents would think if they found out, something that she couldn’t stop herself from thinking whenever she wanted to do something that they probably won’t approve of, like this race.

A waste of time, they would say. But she wanted to try it once more. Last time… what happened last time? She couldn’t remember, more reason for her to join in again, give Broom Racing one more try. “Miharu Goto, Mahoutokoro. Nice to meet you all.” She greeted with a bow. Stiff, too formal. Again, how do you become friendly? To be casual? Ah, it’s so hard for someone that’s been raised in a strict household. She should really learn from friendly people.

After all the introductions were done (She still thinks she could’ve introduced herself better.) and the rules had been said to them, Haru mounted her trusty Firebolt, ready to start this race. Hopefully, this will indeed be fun and hey, at least she gets to practice her flying skills.

Madhup of Durmstrang wasn't one to pass up a chance at challenge nor fun. Most days, those concepts came hand-in-hand, and if he knew one thing about races, they offered plenty of both. He had signed up with gusto and arrived, for once, right on schedule. The flyer came dressed head to toe in black, save the splash of a red band logo on his shirt and bits of glinting gold jewelry. As he listened to (@Alyssea Brown) their host's speech, he tucked his necklaces into his shirt to avoid putting an eye out- imagine- and pulled his favorite ring off with his teeth, shoving it deep into a pocket for safekeeping. Selective hearing was a lesser-known ability of his. He seemed to tune out most of the instructions, but when she said something about flinging spells and rocks, he glanced up with a glint in his eye. Keep it clean, she'd said. Would he be held accountable for breaking race rules if he didn't know what they were?

As much as Madhup had accumulated a repute as a rotten Chaser, more prone to blatching than scoring, he was also a team player through and through. Where his morals might be put to question, his loyalty was not. The four students assigned to him were blanketed by this trait, at least for the next twenty to thirty minutes. He coaxed them nearer, sweeping his arms in while crooning on a mock motherly note: "Come together, little dragons! Huddle with bhaiya Madhup. Time to plot. Plan...? Yes, plan." The Durmstrang teen ushered them into a circle so they may whisper a hasty strategy among themselves. One of the littler ones introduced himself as a bird (Crane, @Rebecca Lark), tying introduction and interests together. "My hobbies are painting, the trumpet, and winning." As though that was the most endearing thing he had heard, with complete disregard for dignity or personal space, Mad reached out to try and ruffle the boy's hair. "Good," he praised. "Focus on the last one." A Mahou kid, Chiaki (@Pax Zhang), announced "... I too would like to win this race. I believe we can do it." Mad wagged an approving finger their way. "Half the battle is confidence. I read that on a sport drink."

Part plan, part harebrained scheme, they worked together to quietly cobble together a gameplay. Once they shared a rough understanding of one another's strengths, it was time to fly, all players breaking away to assemble at the start line. Before they aligned with their opponents, Madhup may have been spied slipping something from his pockets to those of his teammates. (all pinged + Alphonse (@Remedy Norden) & Briar (@Ulysses Drake))

How in the world did Elias find himself here? One moment, he was minding his own, hanging out with friends and, surprise surprise, enjoying this snowy summer wonderland. The next, he found himself signing up for not one but two sporting events in which only three names were recognizable to him: classmate and brother-figure (he had yet to let Cyrus know of this status) Cyrus Darsel, and boys' night party people Judas Crane and Daniel Tienzo (who was only signed up for Quidditch but still). So Elias slapped his name up on both lists because why not? Sports are fun, right?

Except he didn't have a broom.

By the grace of God, he was able to borrow one, through pleading and begging and bribery and his general likeableness to borrow a broom from a frankly terrifying girl Astra :]. Apparently its name was Albany and he was to take the utmost care of it or he would not see the light of day tomorrow morning.

So, having recently returned to his senses post evaporation and stopped swearing from sheer adrenaline, he made his way to the race line and stood. Awkwardly. Until he saw Cyrus and Cyrus signed to him and his little heart practically leapt out of his boney chest and he signed back Thank you, you too! He would send a wave in the direction of Judas, but Judas was on the other team so it was time for Elias to not focus on people he knew and focus on the people who he would be racing alongside.

Notebook and quill made their way into his hand as the boss lady @Alyssea Brown started talking and people were paying attention. Okie dokie, follow the arrows and keep it clean, I got this!

Looking to his teammates, he signed We got this, a wobbly "We good," following from his mouth. Then he mounted his broom and swallowed hard, readying for the trail ahead. This was going to get absolutely wild.

Unsure of quite how they ended up here but still excited about it, Cass's small feet left a trail in the snow as they hurried up to the starting line. An actual broom race! For them it was perfect timing as well, since they had finally managed to get the ban their father had placed on them owning a broom lifted. It was only one or two broken "works of art", a totally unnecessary and ridiculously strict punishment for one small teeny tiny crime. But as they had told their father, they absolutely needed a broom now that it was second year. While their reasons might not have held up in a courtroom, their methods of persistent bothering meant that they now clutched a brand new comet 180 in their hands.

Surprisingly, Hogwarts students appeared to be among the minority of the racers. Cass recognised a few faces, like strange-yellow-not-duck boy from earlier on in the camp. They never did quite figure out what those "rubber ducks" were for. Hopefully after the race they would have time to ask about them once again. Rubber-duck-boys name was Cyrus apparently, though personally they thought rubber-duck-boy suited him better. "Duck boy! Im Cass from hogwarts" they then turned towards the rest of their new team "Lets win some races". Cass was more than happy to leave long pep talks to someone who actually knew what they were doing.

Loyalty, got royalty inside my DNA. Got war & peace inside my DNA. I have power, poison, pain, & joy inside my DNA.
A miracle happened today.

Well, two miracles, if one included Alphonse bestowing upon the fine attendees of the 2024 Summer Camp with yet another free show of his captivating and exemplary culinary skills. The other would be Alphonse's participation in the race despite his punishment forbidding him from broom activities.

Initially, the Haitian boy had zero intentions of leaving his friends behind or Haiti beyond his scheduled Quidditch game at the London Quidditch Stadium, and he should have been home under the Carribean sun enjoying a game of foutbòl, swimming, or surfing, but no. His thirst for the thrill of adventure would certainly be his downfall, as it often was. Instead of staying with Gran and Grandpapa as predetermined, Alphonse would be trapped in the winterscape purgatory with his mother, stripped of broom privileges, and appointed to the daily chore of dishwashing and food prep.

At first, such punishment for sneaking out was a horrid drag on his summer hustle and flow. The harsh severity of Alphonse's punishment did not match the feebleness of his crime, but that did not stop his mother - ever the spiteful witch at times - from arranging his doom by coercing him to toil the summer away anyway. Eventually, the Haitian boy found some solid perks in his lengthy despair-riddled sentence: camp without the crowds, a brisk jog free of lingering eyes upon him, overhearing juicy gossip as the day passed, and treasured moments shared with his mother in between. Although Alphonse would never admit it, he missed his mother. Their early morning ritual of preparing vegetables and fruits beside her became more enjoyable than toilsome as they transitioned from prolonged, heavy, anguish-filled silences to laughter and upbeat recountings of the past.

Between his schooling at Castelobruxo and his mother's burgeoning profession at Hogwarts, these moments between them were rich for them both. Despite Alphonse's grounding, Sarai rewarded his good behavior with a surprise; the Herbologist would enroll him (and Briar) in select non-official broom activities that the woman assumed met her sons' fancy.

Today happened to be one of those days; Sarai had awoken hours earlier, finished both his and her prep, bestowed Alphonse his Silver Arrow, and dismissed him to the unofficial race around the stadium. With the brunt of the mandatory work willfully completed by his bustling of a mother, Alphonse would set forth a path through the frigid winterscape to the starting line to regroup with the gaggle of fellow racers, a cheeky grin lining his features. Before he could converse with his teammates, the Haitian boy spied his mother departing from the dining area to spectate upon her sons' performances. A frown touched his lips. The pressure was on to perform, and with this event being among Alphonse's first races, his pride and reputation were on the line.

His knuckles turned white as Alphonse gripped the handle of his Silver Arrow, but his jittering nerves would be naturally concealed behind his smile and charismatic introductions. "Sak pase? What's up?" A hand reached out to him for a formal shake by Judas Crane; Alphonse took it and responded in an identical manner, in which Judas spoke his own words: "Toussaint, Alphonse Toussaint. Second year. Castelobruxo."

A girl from Mahoutokoro, Chiaki, would also introduce herself with a cheerful countenance. Alphonse followed her gaze to the course as he listened to (@Alyssea Brown) their host's speech, trying to predetermine potential obstacles from afar. The Haitian boy was no racer, but as a First-String Chaser, Alphonse thirsted for speed and the occasional aerial guerrilla warfare. Both his and Briar's broom collections would grow as a result of their individual talents, although both of the Toussaint progeny had the favored flight upon their respective Silver Arrows the most.

The oldest member of his team, a student named Madhup, exuded promise, confidence, and everything Alphonse could ever aspire to become. Sweeping the children into a circle, they pieced together a hushed game plan based on individual strengths and experiences before breaking away to assemble at the start line. With a smirk, Alphonse would depart his team with a curt nod of understanding before mounting the broom.

It was time.
