Go and see what all the fuss about Hexwizard was about, that was the reason the small collective of Castelobruxo students had elected to attend Hogwarts that spring, or autumn he supposed, the Europeans had backwards seasons. The concept of celebrating Christmas in the winter was utterly baffling, and not for the first time Raul was thankful that his ancestors had elected to leave the god-forsaken old continent to the New World. Castelobruxo was the pinnacle of wizarding education, a school that built not only on skill but on character, millennia of tradition from three great civilisations culminating in the greatest school in the world. Evidently, Headmaster Duorado had seen fit not to enter into the foolhardy tournament in its first year post-revival. After all, the school had nothing to prove, and if the northerners wanted to see about embarrassing themselves and getting themselves killed then all the better. Of course, should the sport prove a success, then it would stand to reason that Castelo would enter and dominate it in its second year. Allow the foreigners to serve as guinea pigs.

Be that as it may, he had little interest in explaining the decisions of his school, nor in allowing its honour to be besmirched.

Raul spent much of the arrival doing little more than making snide comments under his breath, particularly with regard to the fact that Hogwarts actually had not only a mudblood as a champion, but a mudblood half-breed. It was a fucking disgrace, and he made more than a few comments to that effect before taking to eating more than his fair share of food from his native Brazil and from France. At least the house elves they had were decent chefs, shame they were paid a wage though, a dreadful precedent that had become global.

Of course, Raul’s decision to mind his own business was a rare one, and it was not to last long. He had been happy enough to sit back and drink his grape juice, its colouration a delightful shade of burgundy. That was until he heard words spoken in Spanish, a language that whilst not as beautiful or prestigious as Portuguese, was at least close enough to be somewhat mutually intelligible. The voices of many of his younger peers could be happily drowned out, but the much deeper voice of one of the Russians cut through, particularly as it was in Portuguese, albeit with an accent that made it clear he had not learned from a Brazilian. The Durmstrang champion had opted to go up to the little ones to start shit, that was a completely acceptable course of action. Then he had dared to besmeach the name of the school, Raul’s school, that was unacceptable. Raul could not make out the words, not fully, but he at least heard the term ‘other school’, and that accompanied with the laughter made it clear what at least was meant.

Of course, his insult was barely glancing, the sort of passive aggression that punctuated every aspect of pureblood society. But Raul was never exactly good at the passive part of passive aggression.

Excusing himself from his table, not that he’d bothered to speak to any of those he was sitting with, the Castelobruxo seeker meandered his way over to the small group of Spanish-speaking Castelobruxo students and the much larger champion.

“So fucking uncivilised,” Raul would raise his voice as he approached.

The cup of juice would swirl in his hand. It was an odd sight, Raul Correa of all people interjecting on behalf of a group of halfbloods. But loyalty needed to account for something, did it not?

“I thought Hogwarts had the mudblood champion,” Raul’s voice was singsong, “But I suppose even he could teach you a thing or two about manners. I thought better of Koldovstoretz, I truly did.”

Haley could hardly sleep all night, the day went by slowly and she was haunted by her excitement. She had been counting the days and now it was finally time. She couldn't believe it herself but no matter how many times she pinched herself, she didn't wake up because this was not a dream. Today she would finally see Ronnie again. The boy who had managed to wrap her around his finger. The one she had exchanged so many letters with and the one she had a violent crush on
.
The young Gryffindor stood in front of the mirror and looked at herself, she really really hoped that her lack of sleep wouldn't show. She was also struggling with her mane, but in the end her ginger locks fell smoothly over her shoulders to her ribs. She looked at herself in her green eyes in the mirror and whispered very softly "No need to be excited." But she could not convince herself.

She took one deep breath before leaving the room and making her way to the Great Hall. She would have preferred to run, but she stopped herself. In front of the big door she took another deep breath and entered the big room, which was filled with endless voices and laughter. Immediately a smile formed on Haley's lips. It was nice to see how busy it was and how everyone was talking, sharing and hugging each other.

Her eyes scanned the surroundings, she saw her Hogwarts friends and gave them a quick wave. But she was looking for one person in particular. Verona Carlito Andréas Ramírez. But it wasn't just him she was on the lookout for, she still had a last spark of hope of seeing Charles again. That he would come towards her in his familiar leather jacket with his hands in his trouser pockets, with his smirk, just as he always did. Then he would take her in his arms and explain everything to her.

But this was really just a dream image, she couldn't find Charles and he didn't come towards her either. She tried to ignore the ache in her chest and focused on the other person again.

To her relief, it didn't take long before she finally locked eyes with her target. She began to smile broadly and stopped as if rooted to the spot. She wanted to enjoy this brief moment and just watch him for a moment. He was even more beautiful than she remembered. She looked from his perfect dark hair to his blue eyes to his full soft lips that were just forming into a smile as he talked to others. Gosh, this must be a dream.

Haley's legs would have loved to run, but she tried to keep the excitement in fences. She forced herself to walk, faster than usual but at least she wasn't running towards Ronnie. The few metres almost felt like kilometres but when she finally stood with him she blanked out everything and everyone around her. She beamed at him and was at a loss for words.

"I missed you." Was Haley's greeting and she would have loved to fall around his neck. She grinned shyly at the boy in front of her and spread her arms to take him in a hug.

Soraia liked Scotland well enough. It contrasted with her homeland in terms of weather...and feel...and aesthetic. But every country had its own beauty. At least that's what her mother said. When they were led to the campgrounds, Soraia hadn't complained -- but she wished that there was a little more for their arrival. There were no cheering crowds. Or even booing! There had only been the chatter of her schoolmates, the snapping of branches, and crunches of leaves. Nevertheless, she stifled her disappointment and set about organizing her simple bed and space in the cabin. By the time it was time for the feast, she had totally refreshed and was back to her bright, bubbly persona.

Castelobruxo not having a champion had been a bit embarrassing for Soraia to process but she was determined not to let it ruin the trip. Besides, next time they would. She had no doubt in the strength of her peers or the prestige of her school. She held her head high as they entered the hall, grinning brightly at the fireworks that burst over their heads. Soraia waved several friends off as they split to find other friends or even other schools to sit with.

She, herself, had originally taken a seat directly between a Hogwarts Hufflepuff and a student from the American school. She remained there -- in the midst of strangers until the headmaster of Hogwarts had finished speaking. Soraia didn't know the old man but she thought him to be a noble man. She'd been content to remain there until she spotted a dish -- directly across the room at another table. Her favorite dish of all time. "Canjica?" she asked herself, rising from her seat to get a better look at the table. "Oh meu deus! eles têm moqueca de camarão?” Oh my god! They have shrimp moqueca too?

The third year rapped her knuckles against the table, standing completely as she began to move. "My English friends, I must leave you." she said in accented English, smiling brightly as she moved towards the table with the food she desired. So focused on the food, she did not realize she was walking to a group of Castelobruxo students. She was walking behind a girl with red hair who was moving far too slowly and seemed to be speaking to one of the students. In an effort to avoid bumping her, she moved to the left -- and immediately walked into someone else. A boy -- a boy who was much bigger than her. Only a few inches from him stood a different boy -- one she knew was a Castelobruxo student. Despite years of dance training -- there were times Soraia could still be awkward and clumsy.

❛ Com licença! ❜, (Excuse me!) she said with a smile, getting a good look at him and realizing -- he was also there to talk to her fellow Castelobruxo peers. Well, it was nice that they could all get along! Returning her gaze to the table, Soraia figured out exactly what spot she could sit in. She squeezed her way next to a girl who seemed to be looking for a particular dish. She had dark hair -- like Soraia. ❛ Olá. Eu sou Soraia. Eu vim aqui para a moqueca. ❜, (Hello! I am Soraia. I came here for the moqueca.) she said cheerfully, reaching for the dish and putting it onto her plate. Soraia waved her hand, encouraging all conversation to continue despite her delayed arrival into the group. ❛ Vai, vai, vai! ❜ (Go, go, go!)

─────To say he was a little starstruck by the Scottish school would perhaps be a slight understatement. Though he did his best to rein in most of the more obvious reactions, having heard far too many stories of the school prior to coming here to want to make the fascination outwardly known, the young Russian's head was on a near constant swivel to take in the sights. He’d listened in to their guide, a Head of House apparently, with surprisingly rapt attention even as he was reeling from his first experience travelling via portkey. More so to the bits of information and talk of the events than the actual rules, but one can only do so much.

Kolya unpacked quickly, having brought along only the basics. This apparent welcoming feast sounded far more interesting to the boy. As soon as they were permitted the first year bolted from the cabin to make his way, not quite single-mindedly, up towards the castle. It seemed as though something new caught his interest every few feet. Whether he simply slowed his gait or stopped entirely, by the time he actually made it to the double doors the sounds emitting from the Great Hall indicated the feast was already well underway.

Still dressed in his school rubekha, Kolya steps into the Hall. Immediately, his head swivels up to look at the display of colorful fireworks apparently announcing another arrival. Well that’s certainly…flashy. Looking back out to the Hall itself, he makes quick note of the four tables that dominate the main floor. A variety of students have already gathered and struck up conversations from table to table. A quick scan of the room supplies him with a sea of mostly unknown faces. A group seemed to be growing at one of the tables, though the interaction with one of the larger students there didn’t seem all that welcoming.

Fighting off the urge to go eavesdrop on the first night here, Kolya moves towards the table off against the right wall. Taking a seat at the end nearest the entryway, with his back towards the wall, he takes a brief moment to pride himself on a rather well chosen spot to observe the constant bustle of the Hall. Another sweep of the room rewards him with the sight of a familiar face posted up against one of the stone walls. Waiting to try and catch Yasha’s eye, he’d offer up a toothy grin and a quick wave in greeting.

Jamie stabbed at the retreating fireworks with his wand, laughing in delight when he managed to counter with a few sparks of his own. Satisfied with his victory, he tucked his wand into his back pocket and traipsed over to the table that the Ilvermorny students had claimed.
Stephen was already there, big beautiful brain and all. Jamie clapped him heartily on the back as he took a seat next to him. "Hey dude! Made it here in one piece, I see."

The redhead squinted, inspecting the other faces at the table, (which might have been easier if he weren't so opposed to wearing his glasses) all while piling food on his plate. He peeked around Stephen to wave excitedly at Miles. He was absolutely stoked to be on the Hexwizard team! To be honest, he wasn't completely sure what they'd be doing, but he felt super special and important anyway.

Speaking of Hexwizard... Jamie's gaze flicked to a tiny kid with short-cropped brown hair.
"Hey, you! Aren't you on the Hexwizard team too? What's your name again?" He vaguely remembered the boy's face. Wasn't the guy a Thunderbird as well? Jamie stuck a sausage roll into his mouth and chewed semi-thoughtfully. A sudden pattering of footsteps caught his attention, and he looked up to see a familiar head of snowy blonde hair.

"E!" Jamie exclaimed, jumping up to give his friend a hug. He grinned and affectionately ruffled her hair. "Bon-jor! How you doing, dude? It's been a while. Is Hogwarts going good?" He paused to blink a couple of times as EmmaLee's face doubled before him. Today had been his first time using a portkey to travel, and while he had survived the journey, he was still feeling the aftereffects.

"I don't have a date to the ball," Jamie remarked, trying to force his vision back into focus. "I mean, I didn't have one last time either, but do I really need a date? Seems like too much work."
He plopped back onto the bench and began stuffing his face in earnest. "I'm not really looking forward to it, honestly. The last one was super boring, and I don't wanna go through a bunch of flowery, fluffy shit again. At least the flaming dragon thing was cool."

EmmaLee laughed and hugged both Stephen and Jamie in return as they hopped up to greet her. She wrinkled her freckled nose and batted playfully at Jamie's hand as he ruffled her hair. It was very good to see them again.

"Well, my plan is that I was looking for you all, so I would definitely like to sit for a bit." She said with a wide smile. "I have been doing decently well. I had a bit of trouble sleeping at the beginning of term, but an older student helped me out and I've been handling things much better now." The pale girl said, omitting the fact that she hadn't been sleeping well because of nightmares about their disastrous prank wars game. She would let her tentmates think it was just first year jitters and not worry them with the details. As she sat down next to Stephen, she pouted a little about his apparent rejection.

"Oh no. I'm sorry that she didn't even reply. That is quite rude. I'm sure that it will be fun anyway and maybe she will flag you down and tell you it was some kind of misunderstanding." She said with a small shrug. "Or maybe she is interested in someone else and was afraid to tell you." She nodded thoughtfully and patted his shoulder at his cheerfulness. "In any case, it is her loss and I'm sure you will have lots of fun there anyway if I have anything to say about it." She reached for a glass of water and took a sip before she continued speaking.

"I am most definitely going. I am extremely excited about my dress," She said, putting the goblet on the table, tenting her slender fingers together, and laughing a bit in excitement. "but you boys probably don't want to hear about that part. I am going as a, as K would say, single pringle, though. I have a few friends who are also not going with anyone and we all just intend to hang out and have fun." She gave another shrug and a smile while still keeping her fingers tented, then nodded towards Jamie as he expressed his own singleness.

"I think I would agree with Jamie. It sounds like it would just be more fun and less pressure to go alone and hang out with friends than to worry about finding someone special to go with, I mean, unless you already had someone special to start with." She raised her eyebrow curiously as Jamie described the previous ball.

"What is this about a flaming dragon? What happened?"

Yasha watched quietly from the shadows of his place on the wall as more and more students poured into the Hall to make merry, eat, and chatter about both the upcoming ball and the first round of the tournament. It did not surprise him in the least that instead of mingling together and making friendships with other schools as the Headmasters wanted, most students immediately made their way to their friends or people they knew from their own school. There were a few students who had clearly done what was expected and made friends either at this moment or at previous interschool events, but these friendly youngin's seemed to be in the minority.

The dark haired boy turned as yet another shower of sparks announced yet another student's arrival and this time it was another Koldovstoretz boy who had finally graced the presence of this festive hall. Yasha watched as Kolya scanned the room, found a choice spot near Yasha's own, and then realized that Yasha was in the room as well. As Koyla grinned at him and waved, Yasha smirked and stuck his hand up in a wave as well, then moved over the talk to the shorter lad.

"So, what do you think of this grandiose display, friend Kolya?" Yasha asked, putting his hands in his pockets and chuckling a little as he approached within hearing range.

As he was speaking to EmmaLee, the fireworks display at the entrance of the Great Hall erupted into another colorful burst in his periphery. When he just happened to turn his head, he did so in time to see Jamie Ziegler being his normal, but remarkable self. His friend was a total force of nature. Stephen chuckled as Jamie pulled his wand out and parried back with a light show of his own. That boy just always made Stephen feel good about life. He had a playfulness that was a nice counterpoint to Stephen’s seriousness. His only regret about meeting Jamie was that they had not met before summer camp. Better late than never though.

“Yo, Jamie. What’s up man? Yeah, I made it alright. Did you have any doubts? I’m telling you here and now. Before I graduate Ilvermorny, I plan on being able to apparate between these two schools." And he meant it, but that would only be a baby step. His ultimate goal would take him much, much farther away if he had his way.

All three sat down, EmmaLee sandwiched between him and Jamie. Jamie was, of course, heaping food and greeting everyone, while EmmaLee was being a friend and trying to soothe his not too terribly fragile ego. He had suffered enough losses in athletics to recognize them as lessons learned for the future. Looking at EmmaLee he smiled. “I’m okay. I think it’s more likely the owls just were not delivered in a timely fashion. I’ll probably see her at some point. I’ll get an answer then. Or try to anyway,” and he smiled and took a quick look around the Hall to see if he could spot Kamila anywhere within.

“Single Pringles, eh? Clever name. I shall look for you and your group then, but I promise I won’t crash your fun, for too long. You have to promise me a dance though. I shall be attending in a pale blue and white Prince Charming outfit, and he flashed her a rakish smile. “Does it make me sound weird if I admit that I actually like the costume? Makes me look rather dashing if I say so myself,” and smiling like a goofball, he looked over at Jamie and gave him a faux warning smirk just on the chance he was going to throw his opinion into the hopper on how it made him look. “And I do want to hear about your dress, EmmaLee. What color is it so I know what I’m looking for in the dark, just in case others show up with gorgeous white tresses as well?”

As Jamie told them about his thinking on how going to the Ball dateless was easier and might end up being more fun, Stephen took a couple bites of his food. He finished swallowing as Jamie mentioned the fiery dragon at the Spring Ball.

“Oh, yeah. I totally forgot about the dragon. That was one of the coolest things about the Spring Ball,” he said turning to EmmaLee. “The organizers had this giant, dragon effigy made out of wood. It was large enough that two people at a time could enter it and place a note with their hopes and dreams to be left within the dragon. Later that night, they set it aflame. It was an amazing sight.”

“So, spill. Tell what your first month at this school of magic has been like? Sounds like you have made friends which is good. Is it what you had hoped it would be?”

Oksana had been looking forward to arriving at Hogwarts. She didn't say it out loud, but there were butterflies in her stomach every time she thought about the journey to the British school. She hadn't been at her current school, Koldovstoretz, for long, but upon entering the Great Hall she felt like trading it away.

Whilst Durmstrang had reminded her of her childhood abode, St Petersburg, Hogwarts reminded her more of a warm, welcoming home. She was most excited about the upcoming Fall Ball, she even had a date! (She chose to forget the fact that her father chose him for her) Her parents regarded the match as their final chance to crawl back into Pureblood society after estranging themselves. Since she was an only child, Oksana was the only way to ensure that the Vasiliev lineage carried on successfully.

So no pressure, then.

As she walked through the doors to the Hall fireworks lit up around her, causing the girl to gasp a little in surprise, but relax again when she saw the pyrotechnics fall and not damage anything. She walked through the rest of the entranceway with a small smile on her face. However, wherever she looked she could not find Yasha, her ball date. He should be here somewhere. It was good manners to have arrived with him, wasn't it? Well, he hadn't been there to escort her, so it was his problem.

Although, where she didn't find Yasha, she did find someone else. The blonde hair of Henri de Bourbon, her second cousin, was easy to spot in a sea of people, and so were his charming features. Oksana picked up her pace of walking to make her way through the crowd to him. He seemed to be talking to another Beauxbatons student, who seemed to be leading the conversation.

Moving up in front of Henri, she stopped him and the girl in their tracks, giving a surprised smile as if she'd just noticed them instead of following them through the crowd.

"Henri! How wonderful to see you! You are here for the Tournament, too?"

After greeting the boy, she turned to look at the girl and gave an inquisitive smile.

"Tell me, who is this lovely lady you've found?" Oksana held out a hand in front of Henri to Vivienne. "Oksana Vasilieva. Pleasure to make your acquaintance."

These things always went pretty much the same way, take or leave a few details. He would insult them, they would instantly become defensive, and then he could toy with their emotions for his entertainment. He was confident, they were insecure-- it cemented his belief in his superiority. When one of the students took his mockery with candor, even complimenting him and inviting him to talk, Yefim would be disarmed. For a brief moment, he didn't care about attacking any of them anymore, and wanted to commiserate with them instead. Of course, the moment would only last as long as it took for someone else to take the bait.

One girl called him a monkey, another boy he wasn't talking to came up to call him uncivilized, comparing him to the monster kid and Koldov (as if either of them could possibly compare to his divinity.) Yefim would nod along, his interest in seeing their faces in pain reignited. He wasn't sure what made them think the world was civilized, if anything it only showed how sheltered they all were, and how difficult it was going to be for them when he razed all of civilization to the ground. Like rats in a labrynth, desperate for a goal, not realizing the whole thing was rigged for the entertainment of the observers above.

”No fear, huh. No survival instinct. I see.” Yefim could say to the seated girl, then turning to the boy who intruded. ”I am pure as snow, as pure as heaven. Manners are crutch for weak. For powerless.”

Things were just heating up, lukewarm even, but if he said enough of the right thing, he knew one of these suckers would go for the throat. That's when the justified violence began. The teddy bear kid would be spared though.
