DISCLAIMER: Edited by Lear

Lauren tensed as she reached the canopy of trees. Should I really be doing this? Starting to doubt herself, she turned around to look at Rosie with an arm pointed onwards towards the menacing, towering trees, and another backwards towards the Hogwarts Grounds. Her eyebrow was raised, and her hair started to mess itself up.

Frustrated, Lauren pushed it back towards its original position with... more strength than what she'd intended. A few shreds of blonde came out, but Lauren hardly cared. She threw it onto the ground of the Forbidden Forest and shook her head as casually as she could.

"Rosie... wait. Do you think that we should turn back and --"

She cut herself off as she remembered that Rosie's answer was likely to be 'definitely' or something along those lines. And Lauren didn't want to give in that easily. Dangerous was the only thing that could potentially improve her day, and Lauren wasn't ready to let go of that chance. Besides, she had never gotten injured in the Forbidden Forest before.

"Well, actually, never mind, I'm just going to continue onwards. We need some fun in our day, huh? And that's not the only good thing that can happen to us; imagine the Seventh Years' faces when we brag to the whole school that we snuck into the Forbidden Forest in detention surpervised by the Headmaster and came back out unscathed? Not that we'll be the only ones to do it, though, but at least we'd get to share the fame! Isn't that amazing?"

Reputation. Status.

Those words were what was proven to Lauren every day in her childhood to be the most important things in life. You're six, you're no monster, so you have a decent reputation and status, and naturally you'd be treated like a queen. And then you're eleven, you're a Slytherin, you're a Parselmouth, and your family thinks that you are a monster of some sort. Then you get treated like garbage by them. Yay.

As she thought of it, Lauren examined her smooth, fair skin. Words redacted by Lear. And thus every night, her anger was ignited, and she spent hours plotting revenge on her family. And... thoughts got dark.

That might just have been why she vandalised the portraits. It might have just been why she couldn't control her anger at that time. She had stopped herself from scratching her mother to St Mungos for a whole summer before she joined Hogwarts.

Lauren continued to venture into the depths of the Forbidden Forest, stiffening at any rustle of leaves. Occasionally, she would look back at Rosie to check that she was still uninjured and well.

Because if Rosie wasn't, it would be all Lauren's fault. She was the one who went into the Forbidden Forest. And even more so, it would be her fault, and hers alone, because she had allowed Rosie to come with her.

She should never have done so, and insisted that she, Lauren, went alone. Because she was holding both of their lives in her hands.

Time has lost it's course and Angel was beginning to feel a bit abstracted. She didn't know if the two girls were just talking about Quidditch. But she stood up and began to take a stroll. The winds blew hard as her gaze averted to the others. Some working some were dumbfounded wondering where to start. Has time ever moved? Her head turned as she noticed a peculiar person alone. Sebastien. The boy from the train.

He was alone now? That was interesting indeed. Blair does hate everyone. So now the bright boy began to dim for Angel. The other two could wait, they can pass the time to talk. Angel felt out of place. With a group of people who were angsty the boy she was seeing was not like that. She walked up to him, he seemed in need of a partner for the time being. Although he would probably not be pleased with joining another group of girls after his encounter with Ms.Du Pont. Anyone would've had a stale taste if they met someone who was fussy.

"Hello there. You seem to be preoccupied? Mind if I join?" she asked him

The basking sun had been much pleasant to see, but due to Angel's genes she was instead met with a slight burn. Holding her arm tightly with a grip, she pulled her sleeves to cover it. It should be fine but it definitely stings. That was one handicap you had if you were a half breed, either nature affects you or you have weird genetics that make you stand out. For her however, that was fine. She could definitely make use. It was not the end of the world if you looked different.

Paul seemed to have noticed my discomfort as he spoke about insects. He apologised with a sympathetic expression across his face. I replied, "That's alright, you didn't know my phobia was that bad. Besides, I'm probably getting better at managing it. It's a miracle that I get through herbology and Potions with the worms and spiders and all. Potions's still my favourite subject though." He was about to say something about his fears when his eyes darted to the branch he'd levitated. "I know people can have fears, even Gryffindors, even though we're supposed to be brave. I wonder what he's afraid of" Steering my attention away from my thoughts, I focused on the weird ward-like thing we'd found.

As I was stuck in my spiral of thoughts about the ward, and how a broken ward could be a possible threat, Paul returned with someone to help. I caught a glimpse of dark brown through my periferal vision. I turned around to spot a familiar face. It was Tatiana, a friend I'd made this year. I smiled at her as she approached. "How come I didn't notice her earlier?" Paul introduced us. I said, "Hey Tatiana, didn't know you were here too. We're familiar with each other by the way, Paul" I giggled at our unexpected meeting.

Paul then squatted on the ground next to the broken ward and showed it to Tatiana. I said with a hint of apprehension in my voice, "We think it's a ward. I've never seen one before so I'm not sure. But if it is, then it shouldn't be broken. Wards are protective barriers placed across Hogwarts, and if this one is broken, that means the barrier isn't functional at this location, or is too weak. I believe this could be a threat, a security breach. What do you think?"

Suddenly, a girl approached us, it was Ophelia, a girl I'd met earlier. I smiled at her warmly. She asked, "What's up here?" I replied, "We were checking out this ward-like object on the ground, it's broken too. Here, take a look.", I pointed towards it.

Rosalyn was panting, starting to get really tired. She was outrageously sleepy, as well as frustrated and scared. But, her unwillingness to let her friend go into the forest alone overruled all of those emotions, so she kept trudging on, through the forest.

"Oh, shoot..." she mumbled to herself, feeling as her sweater got caught on a stray branch hanging from one of the tall trees above.

Then, Lauren asked her if she thought that they should turn back. Before she could even reply that yes, they most definitely should, her friend said never mind, that they should just keep going.

Then, she began to talk about being able to brag about going into the Forbidden Forest, and tell everybody that they made it out unscathed and under the Headmaster's nose during a detention.

"Lauren, stop. Please, don't do this, don't put yourself in danger right now." she said, stopping in her tracks and reaching out to grab her hand.

Rosie didn't know anything for a fact, but had a feeling about why Lauren was so adamant about going through with this whole thing. Though she had a pretty good home life, Rosie could recognize it when others didn't. She knew that Lauren had a lot going on, and that the poor girl was probably dreading the summer and going back to all of it.

"Lauren, this isn't the way to make a reputation for yourself. I promise you, if you want your family to think better of you, going into one of the few places in the school that students aren't allowed to go into won't do it." she said, gently squeezing her hand.

She hoped that Lauren at least listened, because Rosie knew that the poor girl didn't want to do this. Not really.

Reyna actually laughed at Isabeau’s comment. Yes, selling exam answers did not help you, it only made you end up in a detention much like this one. It was contrary to what one might think, that helping others ended you up in detention. Alas, rules were not for everyone. And what were rules if they were never broken once in a while.
Reyna wouldn’t call herself a trouble maker. But she didn’t hesitate to break some rules, occasionally when deemed necessary. She was always very careful, hence why she’d never ended up in a detention. It seemed her luck had run dry. Grief made you do stupid things, such as not being careful enough. But there was a first for everything. She remembered the time she’d been so caught up in her grief, when it had consumed her this Valentine’s day that she’d snuck out of her room past curfew and stolen ingredients for a potion. What happened next she could barely remember but that night had been one disaster after another. She shuddered at the thought glad she was a little better than before. After her Grandpa had died, she had suffered but finally she was feeling a bit better. Not fully there yet, but better.
Glancing up at Isabeaus words towards the fire, she scoffed. Reyna could see what she meant. The fire could prove to be useful for clearing out some things but the more pressing problem was the danger that it could cause. Headmaster Lear seemed to be busy with I had no idea what, and I highly doubted he had noticed. And with so many other kids here, it was never good. Reyna had been to countless balls and seen the damage fires had done to them. She had hear about the Pyre fires too where many of her friends had gotten caught in. There was nothing worse than kids and a fire.
“Have you not seen the destruction fires have done at Balls?” Reyna asked raising her eyebrows, “I don’t think fire has ever proven useful when it comes to kids at this school.”
As Reyna continued to move branches into a big pile, Isabeau suggested a way that they could make it more efficient. Reyna didn’t object. It was a good idea. “Sounds good to me,” she agreed. She was sure this was what Lear had meant for them to do. Efficiency would be key.
"How long do you reckon we'll be here for?" she asked Isabeau, attempting to make some small talk. Reyna’s hands and back were starting ache though she had just begun. She wasn’t even doing manual labor, she was using magic, yet she still struggled. She wasn’t built for this. No one was. She just hoped she wouldn’t be here forever and nothing terribly bad would happen.

action levitation charm on branches and

Andrea liked doing things on her own. Maybe a bit too much. Every now and then, she would ask her house elves to purposely rearrange and mess up some items her room so she could have fun tidying it up once more.

Weird? Probably.

That being said, she enjoys light cleaning, often having one of the house elves offer to play the piano while she's at it.

After getting gloves for her partner and herself, she looked around and grabbed a near-by sheer that seemed unused. Kneeling down, she began pulling weeds and cutting overgrown grass, careful not to trip over another root.

She sighed as she gazed up at the sky, its clouds casting a shadow over the grounds, promising a long, slightly dim morning of labor.

Huffing, Andrea returned to her task with a small enthusiasm, but it quickly faded away when the messy bushes she had cleared out revealed a massive, tangled mess. Branches were piled up over rotten leaves, almost fully covered up with vines that would take at least an hour to finish by hand.

Her eyes narrowed, giving up the idea of cleaning manually as she slips her wand out of her pocket. With a smooth, practiced swish and flick, she pointed her wand at the mess. "Wingardium Leviosa!" She casted. In an instant, the heavy branches and damp leaves levitated in a quick, yet graceful manner. She guided the floating clutter, carefully organizing them in neat, separate piles.

Suddenly, a quiet, deep knocking echoed softly against wood from somewhere beyond the forest. The eerie sound causef Andrea to lose her focus for a split second, a chill running down her spine. Her wand wavered, leading to the fall of a few branches that she had gathered from her levitation spell.

With a small frown and raised eyebrows, Andrea quickly looked behind her toward the edge of the woods. Yet, her eyes fell on Robin and the small groups of other students working hard—nothing out of the ordinary. She shook her head, assuming that some of the students were just causing some trouble—after all, they were already in detention for a reason.

Before she turned back to her own work, Andrea peeked over Robin's area to see how much he had already mamaged to clean up.

Hana stood next to Jada and looked at the gigantic pile of debris near the sidewalk. She raised an eyebrow and mumbled, "well, that's certainly something. We better start moving it before it's too late. This is such a torture. She took her dragonhide gloves and put it on, after making sure the gloves fit her hand nice and snug, she walked towards the pile.

As she was walking, she realised the other girl remained stationary, instead she was pulling out her wand. Hana looked and rolled her eyes, "That's clever. Magic and spells, moving the pile away. Sighed and continued. "But, you do realise that we wore gloves for a reason, and that detention is supposed to be something that makes us dread right? So surely, you wouldn't think that he'll allow us to use magic to clean things up, that would be too easy, don't u think? But I mean, go and risk it, maybe he's. Cough. too old. Cough. to realise. Just letting you know. "

Hana walked a step forward towards the pile but stopped and walked back. "Ok. You know what, I'm not doing it, we're a pair, and we gotta do everything. Together. So, now, I'm going to just stand next to you, and pray that he won't see it. And if he does, we run, to the pile, okay?"

Winnie frowned at Nabi's comment about smacking people, before she remembered she had seen her break Gideon's fingers that night. Panic flashed on her face, she couldn't let Evie know she had lost control like that! "I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about." The younger Slytherin could call her 'lambish' all she wanted; she refused to lose control again. They were going to have a NICE NORMAL DETENTION, gosh darnit!

Relief flooded her system when the blame was shifted off of her shoulders, "They mistook it for some sort of ritual! But it wasn't... We were complaining... Enthusiastically." Her lips curved into a tiny smile.

"NABI!" Winnie's eyes flickered over to Marshal after her friend had implied he was a dementor, "Marshal is Evie's friend, and besides... he's far too well groomed and well dressed to be a dementor."

Copper curls cascaded down her shoulder as she tilted her head towards Marshal. Perhaps it was obvious why the universe had made her animagus form a dog. "You really didn't know?" She practically skipped up to Evelynn and hugged her arm.

"We're only half sisters, but I think we look so similar! Just look at us!" Winnie chirped happily, clearly proud she was related to the redheaded Gryffindor. She had admired Evelynn for longer than she had known she was her sister.

As the Ravenclaw leaned over to begin clipping away at some of the more stubborn weeds, she was just starting to convince herself that detention wouldn't be so bad. Her friends and sister were here, after all-- annnnd Matthew was walking away from them. "Uh... Matthew, we're over here." Where did he think he was running off to? The forest? Nope. Not happening. Winnie wasn't about to let the haunted ground lure someone else into its icy tendrils.

Luckily the others seemed to notice too, she could see Eve almost perk up, her attention sharpening as her eyes followed Matthew. She knew that look, but surely she wouldn't, not during detention. Winnie flinched as she heard her sister sling the spell towards the younger student ... She stood corrected, Evelynn would during detention.

Rosie's words only made Lauren more intent on continuing to venture into the depths of the Forbidden Forest. She had tried to persuade Lauren not to put herself in danger. As if she cared. She wanted to put herself in danger, and enjoy the thrill that was about to take place. She wanted to experience the feeling of disobeying the Headmaster of all people by entering the Forbidden Forest.

It felt like... like revenge, the kind of thing she would usually do to her family as a small act of rebellion. Just like when she vandalised the portraits, Lauren didn't care about who or what she was hurting. She just wanted to hurt something. It gave her the satisfaction she needed, and that was already worth the detention. Perhaps even worse than that.

Headmaster, family. It sounded the same to her, except that Headmaster Lear didn't treat her like she was rubbish waiting to be thrown out, though she could suspect that he held no respect for her. Whatever. She didn't care one bit about whether Lear liked her or not. There were far more important things in her life, such as revenge and sneaking into the Forbidden Forest, than worrying about what he thought about her. The Slytherin had worried far more than enough for her liking in her lifetime, mainly about her family. They had already wasted much of Lauren's energy when in truth they didn't deserve it.

She shrugged as if to clear her mind to prepare it for the next task -- discovering at least one remarkable thing in the Forbidden Forest. When she and Rosie were surrounded by towering trees, they would have to focus on what was in front of them.

No, just Lauren. The other Slytherin had been dragged into this against her will, and Lauren didn't want her to have to suffer too. It was too late, though, to turn back. She heaved a sigh and rolled her eyes yet again as Rosie told her that she shouldn't go where students weren't allowed to go if she wanted your family to think better of her. To heck with her family's wishes. The young Slytherin was on a rebellious streak. She wanted to do everything against their will. And now Rosie was telling her not continue if she wanted her family to do the opposite of what she wanted.

Lauren wanted indignation. She wanted her family to be annoyed by her actions, yet they would be powerless to stop her as they had already threw the chance of Lauren's respect away as if it were dirt. It wasn't. It was precious and gold. Gaining her respect was hard, veryhard. She doubted if anyone apart from her aunt and her best friend had ever been respected by Lauren before.

She opened her mouth t0 a sly smirk, ready to retort. Then she vaguely remembered the time where she tried to get the better of a Second Year she remembered as Amethyst a few months ago. She had taught her many valuable things in how to interact with people as well as to display to them her superiority. And right now, at this very moment, she needed to show to Rosie that she was independent, could think for herself, knew what she was doing, and that her logic was superior.

"Rosie," Lauren began, trying her best to enjoy the gloomy darkness around her. "You already know that I've been treated like shit for too long. I thought you already knew that I don't want them to think better of me any more. I no longer care about what they think." She spoke deliberately, enjoying the atmosphere. Gothic and eerie. She loved it. "Right now, I'm on a rebellious streak. I want to make them regret their life decisions for the rest of their lives. I'll show them that I'm no longer under their control any longer. They can think what they like. Just don't do anything to make that can affect my social standings or my grades. I don't care any more, Rosie," she said, her voice dark with satisfaction as she recalled her plans.

Flame looked up when the headmaster called over to her and gestured to two other students she was told to pair up with. She walked over to join them noting that one of them was a second year. The older girl spoke suggesting that they start off to the side away from the chaotic group. The girl turned and walked towards where she pointed pulling out her wand. Flame turned to the other girl and shrugged. "I'm Flame." she said holding out her hand for a fist bump. "I'm a Gryffindor, first year." Flame smiled. "And I got caught out after curfew!" Her smile grew wider and her eyes sparkled slightly. Maybe she could make a new friend! Or friends. Flame glanced over her shoulder to where the other member of the group, the grumpy second year, was standing. She looked as if she was trying to cast a spell. Flame watched her cast it but didn't watch to see if it workd and then turned back towards the other first year girl. Flame wondered what both of them had done to get detention, knowing that a lot of people were here cause they did something that wouldn't normally get them a lot of detention for or who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
