Arjan INTERACTIONS:
Ret | CLOSED (leaving festival)
For a while Felix had roamed over the festival grounds in search of the glimmering American sunlight (@Levi Drakos) that had agreed to be his date for the evening, but it seemed the dark tapestry of the night had hidden her away from him, his Cinderella leaving behind a necklace instead of a glass slipper. He'd searched in vain for her amongst the crowd, coming up empty-handed. The night air had no love in store for the young couple, their flame dying out with the initial sparkle of the evening.
The Swede had found an area far away from all the drama. He wasn't entirely sure what was happening, since he was more so focused on himself, but he knew he didn't like noise and that the idea of Arjan (@Serena Towers) showing up and finding him alone was less than appealing. The bench was the perfect spot for the teenager who had enough angst to rival Harry Potter's own, and less than a teaspoon of the hero's trauma. The dance of rain that had fallen from the sky above had left the surface damp, but he had tossed down his jacket to save himself from sporting a wet mark for the rest of the evening. Although the weather had still managed to drench the boy as the night trudged onwards, and eventually, he had slid his leather jacket over his damp attire.
He played with the necklace he had bought Ret, slowly opening the metal petals by twisting the base of the jewelry. He was a damn idiot. How could he have let the mist of his emotions cloud over his judgement? Over his logic? He had always judged his peers for following girls around like lovesick puppies. He had assumed he was immune to romance. He had been wrong. He should have listened to his first instinct and tossed his invitation to Ret in the garbage. As the twinkling stars began to fade, their brightness gradually fading as well, he had grown weary of the festival and the music and dancing that played in his head to the rhythm of their sound.
It was lucky the personified sunflower appeared once more, blossoming before his very eyes. He cursed his heart for quickening its rhythmic beat at the mere sight of the blonde. In an instant, his mind and heart were at war with each other once more, though he had long grown tired of trying to confess his feelings to the girl. "Ret." He responded, his ice-blue eyes flickering up to look his date up and down. "That is your name, right? You didn't lie to me about that, did you?" Ever the dramatic one, he was. "Oh, a prank? No, you're right. It was really funny when you ditched me and left me with some random guy who made me believe he was you. I don't feel like a fucking idiot at all." He rolled his eyes, standing to his feet. "You want to go elsewhere? Fine with me, we can leave." He grunted, turning to leave before pausing. He quickly shrugged off his leather jacket and wrapped it around Ret's shoulders without a word, before turning and storming off in a huff towards the lake. (I am assuming that Ret follows him, as this is what Levi and I have planned. A follow-up thread will be posted soon.)

Caradoc's eyes flickered with relieve as he witnessed the boy's spell take effect. Erin was visibly getting better, though she had a long way to go for a full recovery. The Head of Hufflepuff gently squeezed Burnett's shoulder as he smiled in acknowledgement of his skill. "Well done, kid. First-class spellwork. Now, let's make sure we-" Doc's head snapped upwards as his eyes widened in panic.
"Wait!" One hand shot upwards as he heard multiple students shout their incantations at the Slytherin girl. His other instinctively reached for Erin. They were all mad for putting her through this immediately. She needed more time to heal before she could face anything more of whatever she had been through tonight. Without any hesitation, he muttered the same words Jack had done mere moments before: "Ferula."
"Fools. We need to make sure she's going to survive first before you put her through all… this." Caradoc started to ramble with gritted teeth, he had half a mind to rip Erin from everyone's grasp and drag her to the castle by himself. He'd be able to do this all nice and quietly, his anger covering the fact he knew Erin was a hard person to corner.

Hugh tried to control his breath as he became aware of its thunderous rhythm in his head. Slowly, he tried to piece the world back together as he felt anger and violence dissipating from his body. Howard felt almost like an animal. He witnessed the Hufflepuff shouting and running, jumping for his next mark. Serena was quick to follow after him, following his orders as they advanced back towards Erin. Erin, who was being surrounded by a multitude of people. All the action seemed to cluster around her again as the first threats were dealt with. The slug they had just attacked seemed to be on its last breath, its body wriggling as its final movement.
There was one kid who stood out to him as he took in the battlefield. One boy had decided tonight would be a good night for a scavenger hunt. How nice, Hugh thought to himself as he could feel his own tongue clicking in growing agitation. He was well aware of creeps living within Hogwarts' walls, but to see one like this kid in the flesh, it struck a nerve. There wasn't much resistance put up to stop himself from approaching the lad. "Hey, you there!" The part-giant would shout at @Gideon Athanatos. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" Hugh wasn't making any effort to try to aid the boy in making his actions seem harmless, no, he was practically despising the kid for his inability to read the room.
"Starting a teeth collection? Or have you always had a fascination with dead slug-meat?" Hugh would stand in front of the kid and prevent him from grabbing anything more without a proper explanation. "You better start talking now, creep."

Galton felt like a dutiful mother as he snaked his way through his classmates and made sure they got a nice little spritz of anti-slug medication. The protector that no one asked for! Well, other than Xaliah. And it seemed that for the time, his protecting may be working. The slugs seemed to be losing.
But there was no time to delay. Hesitation meant the death of poor Erin. They could not let that happen. And so Galton would move in a familiar pattern, and prep his spray.
Once more the ground would be stained by the slug repellent. Galton the Glorious was a part time graffiti artist for the ball! Around Erin he would run, spraying as he went. He’d make sure that the short girl (Serena) who looked about dead was outside the circle. Couldn’t have those slimy slugs getting their not-so-slimy teeth on her.
As he ran around, it occurred to Galton that he’d fallen into a usual pattern. Find one thing that works, and do it over and over and over. Uncountable amounts of times he’d hyper focused on one strategy. His first duel this year was one such case. Not to mention his fixation on food in most situations.
Galton had some self reflecting to do after (hopefully) deflecting some slugs.

Creatures of the Swamp
The bond between Sylvie O’Niell and Thomas Baines was one forged in the fires of friendship and other such niceties. So it was that it did not collapse under the pressure of the assault of a creature from some demented netherrealm. Instead, it seemed only to be bolstered, they would protect one another from the slugs. However, the spraying of repellant upon Sylvie would lead to the slug chasing prey that would not poison its maw with each slobbering gulp of flesh. The beast slithered away from the swamp girl and instead made its attack toward Xailah Alptraum. Fortunately, the cat-like metamorph was as quick on her feet as she was with a knife and she dodged out of the way of the attacking mollusc. As the slug arced through the air, its teeth failing to find purchase, the two swamp creatures struck out with twin flipendos. The spells were powerful and true, and the wounded slug was sent crashing back to earth. Disgusting ichor and flesh crunched against the ground and then oozed from the broken and limp body of the creature.

Alas, Poor Jurgen
Jurgen Hess’s limp, but still breathing, form had been left to the wayside. The necessity of combat and the chaos evolving from such had left little time to tend to the wounded boy. Fortunately, Orion Lecuyer saw fit to at least provide some help to the unconscious Gryffindor. With deft spellwork, the boy was brought back from the brink. Victor Moore had grand plans, plans to humiliate Percival Rainwood. Unfortunately, those plans would fail spectacularly. He had intended to force the other boy’s pants to grow to an embarrassing size. Alas, his spell failed, and the magic that had been met for his rival instead found his own pants. The garments rapidly expanded, and then promptly fell around the boy’s ankles, even as his wand remained outstretched.Victor's Engorgio
1 Critical FailureThe Birthday Girl
Erin Ryan was probably having the best birthday ever, after all, so many friends were coming to give her hugs. Unfortunately, she seemed to misunderstand their intentions as wishing to jelly wrestle, for she cast a slippery jinx beneath her feet. The result was instantaneous, her footing was poor, but so too was that of Howard Whiote and Selim Faust. The two martial artists closed the gap, hoping to pin the beater in order for their comrades to cast their spells without interruption. The younger of the two struggled to contend with the newly lubricated grass, and found himself missing the swiftly dodging girl. The dhampir, however, made no such blunder. White grabbed Ryan and with force forced the girl to the ground. Pinning her shoulders down, the part-veela could do nothing but struggle against his iron grip.
As she struggled, Galton Lansdale moved swiftly, surrounding her with slug repellant. Hopefully, it would keep the creatures contained within.
Caradoc Browne cast the bandaging charm, his intention to help the girl. Unfortunately, it seemed his power was far too great, for the bandage did not so much as assist her as it did rapidly tighten around her arm, bruising and causing the blood to swell to an ugle purple. However, the professor was not the only caster, and both Serena Towers and Xailah Alptraum nailed the girl with slug-vomiting charms. Almost immediately her writhing rapidly increased. But Howard remained stalwart, force exerted to keep the brawny girl from moving, the two locked in place as she thrashed and seized against his grip. Then, finally, the last slug made its way from the pit of her stomach and out of her mouth. It was a surprisingly quick movement, the slithering of the creature hidden by the girl’s violent movements. There was no way for Howard to see what would become as the slug as he endeavoured to keep the girl pinned. But the slug smelt something, it smelt the repellant that Galton had sprayed. Immediately it shot out of the circle, crossing the barrier, desperate to escape from the protective encasing that had surrounded it, desperate to get away from the slug repellant. And once outside, it smelt fresh meat.
Xailah was once more targeted, and once more dodged deftly out of the way. Only to step backwards into the lunge of the much larger slug. It was dying, that much was plain to see, but no one had bothered to inform the slug of such. With one, final, desperate, measure it bit into the girl’s shoulder, her attention taken by dodging the slug that had erupted from the mouth of the girl she had enchanted. The scent of fresh blood once more filled the air.
Pizza Rat moved quickly to strike at the new slug. Unfortunately, the heroic rat was just a fraction too slow to dig his teeth into more slug flesh. Still, he was more than holding his own in the fray, truly his bravery was the stuff of legend.Slippery Jinx

Bleeding
Wounds had been opened that were still not closed. Galton Lansdale for instance still bore the blade wound upon his arm earned for his earlier heroics and it continued to drip red. However, it was in the large slug that the bleeding truly took root. The slug had been running on reserves, even as it lashed out violently. However, it seemed that it would be for naught, and it died, not with a bang, but with the closest thing to a whimper that it would manage. It would die latched to Xailah’s shoulder, before it dropped off, much like a dead leach.

Gideon Athanatos would take to following the downed slugs with all the joy and professionalism of a very creepy savant. Bits of refuse and dead creatures would be put hastily into his bag. Knowing the youngest Athanatos he was probably humming or something of the ilk while he did it, the weirdo. He was uncomfortably successful at retrieving flesh and ichor, staining his hands with the blood of the creatures as he did so. That was, of course, until Hugh Lowe saw fit to get in his way. The boy had already collected most of the pieces of creature of value, but the part-giant had put an effective stop to any further gathering, lest he incur the wrath of the colossal boy.

"Of all the wonders that I yet have heard, it seems to me most strange that men should fear seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come."- William Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar'

He had been too slow to stop his tackle when he heard the half-hag shout out a spell. So, reacting as best as he could, he tried to stop himself from, at the very least, skidding and falling from his forward momentum. Luckily his dhampir acquaintance had faired better than him and had completed his grapple. He also seemed to not be immediately bucked off my Miss Erin.
Despite Browne's protests though, his peers' spells largely hit their mark. Unluckily, the hag slug that erupted from her torn mouth immediately ran off thanks to the unknown chemicals one boy was casually and consistently throwing around despite the rain mostly washing his attempts away.
The whispers that mostly faded to the back of Selim's mind these days had steadily been growing louder over time, likely due to the stress and heightened exhaustion he was facing and ignoring. One voice, though, spoke above the rest in the midst of the Slytherin's indecisiveness about his next move. "We can't let it hide away."
The rabbit-skulled boy lifted his head slightly at the tune of Aku's voice. His once-constant companion from last year had largely become silent after he got treatment over the summer, but every once in a while he spoke up.
"I know." Selim responded verbally, not much caring if others heard him, likely because everyone was busy being swept up in mob mentality, "I'm sure the others will chase after it momentarily."
"They will, but they were able to kill the other slugs because they were busy attacking them and boring into people's skin. The slugs weren't exactly hard to target." The voice responded. Selim narrowed his eyes, and dug into his pocket, pulling out the hand puppet and yanking it onto his free hand.
"Are you suggesting I chase after it so it will latch onto me?" The boy's voice was cold.
"Not exactly, we can do that, or we can hold it down." Aku responded levelly.
Selim rose a brow, "If that thing latches onto me I won't last long, do I look like I have much health to spare for getting my arm torn to shreds?"
The puppet snorted "As if you haven't been through worse." Well, there was truth to that, Selim supposed.
"And if it ends up deciding I'd be a great emergency host?"
"If you don't take matters into your own hands and cut it out of your stomach yourself by then, everyone else will just cast it out of you themselves."... Well yeah, that was a pretty accurate prediction.
"Fine, but I'm using you to pin it, I didn't individually carve out each of those fangs in your mouth for nothing." The boy hissed.
Finally, after the brief conversation with technically no one at all, the boy kicked off his shoes and socks. With the mud piling onto the boots' bottoms they were about as useful as flippers on ice. His bare feet had more grip than them at this point. He'd probably catch another sickness at the rate the rain was pouring and the fact that he didn't have much protection against its wrath, but the boy would deal with that later.
Focusing on his target, after having a small bout of coughing, he used each of his senses as much as he could despite the thunderstorm. Then, Selim sprang after the slug, fanged puppet still on his hand. Thanks to his teeth, Aku would have a lovely grip on the slimy leech if he caught hold of it, better than Selim would with either his chopsticks or his bare hands.
Once he locked onto the slug, he'd pounce on it like some demented cat. Seeing as how he didn't have the magical abilities of his peers, he'd obviously resort to his own physical capabilities he had honed (And wasted away) over the years.
It would be quite the sight, seeing a boy running barefoot across the ground after a mollusk with a fanged rabbit puppet on one hand and a rabbit skull mask shrouding his features. At this point though, Selim had largely given up on looking sane even though he was a far cry from the state he had been in last year nowadays.
Hopefully, his accuracy and nimbleness would hold up under the rough conditions, and hopefully, he wouldn't become the parasite's next host as a reward for his valiant efforts. Well, he was glad his mouth was effectively covered, seeing as how mouths were obviously the easiest entry into one's body.
He doubted the creature would be able to bore into him swiftly enough to avoid both his and his peers' wrath. If it even bothered attacking him, that is. He was apparently rather a rather untempting meal for hags, perhaps that would also translate to hag slugs.
... Honestly, he was probably just trying to justify his illogical actions. After preaching so much about self-preservation here he was doing the opposite of that for his peers' sakes.
Well, perhaps that was just an inherent flaw for humans. You could try and avoid it all you wanted, but every once in a while, caring for others catch up to you.
If Selim successfully captures the slug in his fanged puppet's mouth he'd try to pin it down while digging Aku's teeth into it as best as he can. If he fails, He'll try again next mod post if there's no progress in defeating it.

...Lubricus
An act of desperation, the rumblings and the noise. Sensory over-loard was an understatement as pain and screams, many of which her own but all she heard was a shrill, droning whine. The anguish was mingled with the taste of copper and the scent of blood to create an exquisite sense of suffering. Blood escaped her mouth in terrible, crimson threads. A hacking cough to clear a muddied airway would speckle the trampled sod.
An act of suicide some might profess, to stand her ground when she only had to flee but that would be an act of futility. Of mangled discourse and regrettable ambition, she would do the only thing she could and that was fight. The ground slick about her, she would await her fate. The first would pass her by, the earth defending her in ways her waning stamina no longer could. A strange boy with the lambchop of schizophrenic sock puppets on his hand, a portable Harvey for the Son of Sam.
It would be Howard White that concerned her. They had hated one another for so long, she could hardly remember why. It was a state of being as natural as breathing and beating. A Pavlovian response at this point. The ever enviable Howard White, beloved by his peers in spite of brutal misgivings and dark nature. A bitter envy that pervaded their entire relationship. His sure footing and predatory aggression made their impact inevitable. She would feel his body slam into hers, she would crash into the ground.
When did he get so heavy? His clawed hands pinning her to the ground, she would hiss and sputter. Try to push him off with force. When the hell did he get so strong?
Slugulus Eructo. Slugulus Eructo. Again with the slug-vomiting charm, their attachment to her retching was not particularly noble. The bubbling nausea in the depths of her gut, the instinct to hold down whatever monstrosity (in the most literal sense) tht wished to emerge. Expulsion was the only option, through a broken maw a large, wiggling, writhing creature would breech her oral cavity. Any delusion of a romantic tryst decimated by the image of a toothless, bloodied maw and the slugs breeched the threshold.
A closer, more intimate view for Howard. Too large, too long, and just a little bit too dark. The creature was segmented, had a slickness to it not unlike the moist slimy surface of a slug but its hide appeared chitinous. These slugs were wrong, invasive and so much larger than the strange serpe3ntine creatures he felt under her skin. The sizes were not the same, but she did say slugs -- how they spoke, how they screamed, how they gnawed and they tore. Smaller on the inside... large on the outside.
One would think that this is when clarity should wash over the girl, as a set of bandages wrapped around her shoulders, pinning her arms to her sides beneath Howard. Tight, her arms would tingle and mottle. Her hand would stubbornly grip her wand in spite of her unfortunate, undignified position. Even without the changeling influence, the revelation of the filth that she had cloaked herself in, the shame would be secondary to more pressing matters.
Fight. Fight against the undying night.
Her knee would shoot up, her intentions not particularly savory as she aimed for the dhampir's family jewels. She could not out-bite a dhampir with her bleeding gums, her teeth scattered about the lawn and lining Gideon's pockets. She could not out-muscle the Quidditch player, they had always been on par. She had not perhaps been surpassed and he had the advantage of position. Her hands were going limp and numb, her grip too weak to responsibly manage her wand while pinned.

"Athantos, Leave the slugs and get to safety, or maybe instead of collecting molluscs you can help your cousin, who just got knocked in his head."
Help Jurgen with what? Bandage him with his sash? Gideon was a first year, his skillset involved walking into class, remembering which was his quill and which was his wand and on occasion if he tried very very hard he would be able to illuminate the tip like an overly complicated torch. Did he expect the boy to sling his cousin over his shoulder and carry him to the Medical Wing to demand treatment when another student's blood essentially painted the lawn?
"How?" He would squeak in response, his pre-pubescent voice reaching an octave where it would soon surely crack. "I doubt my collections are as relevant as," her made a dismissive motion with his hand in relation to the chaos about them both. "But if you want to entrust my medical or arcane skill to safely manage my cousin," how did he casually even know that? No matter, he shrugged at the internal thought as well as the statement.
He would scoop up the slug corpse and slide the slimy beast into his bag. It was a rather pleasant evening to collect, he was humming a pleasant tune lightly. The screams and the incantations taking precedent over this pleasantries. That being until a wall of a man called out to him.
"Hey, you there!" You being Gideon, not that there was any way to know for certain, there were many 'yous.' "What the hell do you think you're doing?" A tone of accusation, but over what - flinging spells at the bloodied girl on the ground, frollicing about ignoring the chaos so they could get on with their date. Certainly picking up the bloodied refuse and the dead was low on the list of priorities. "Starting a teeth collection? Or have you always had a fascination with dead slug-meat?" No, apparently it was 'concern' for his diversionary interests that had no quarrel with their dastardly efforts to murder that filthy girl. Blotting out the sun with his enormous form, a great shadow would eclipse the area before him. "You better start talking now, creep."
He would simply stop. He already had some - a great mollusk and an array of molars. "First," a single finger extended. "How rude," he raised a second digit. "Aren't there more pressing matter to attend to like that dirty girl's probable murder?" He raised a third and final, "you would not understand. But I am very much in need of a snake and a toad," he shifted the contents of his satchel and collected no more.
Hugh ws not wrong of course, Gideon was up to something. He would never have the opportunity of course to demonstrate his peculiar interest in the darker arts. How a game of ken with flesh and bone would be relevant. "Did you know that in the game of ken in China slugs are replaced by centipedes?" Probaby not.

Samhain Festival

Hugh immediately reached out and grabbed the boy by his collar. "These pressing matters don't seem to interest you in any way, right?" The part-giant's voice would growl against the wind blowing past Gideon's ears. The kid's nonchalance clearly struck the wrong chord within the giant. In fact, he felt as if Gideon's witty words were tap-dancing around his own, angering the Gryffindor further. He had already cracked one head tonight, why stop now? "Drop the bag." Hugh's voice would eventually command. Drop it and run. Was what he really meant, though he hoped the kid wasn't planning on making him say it out loud.
Hugh's fists would clench tighter around Gideon's collar, pressing against his throat. The giant felt a jolt of excitement as the boy's heartbeat pulsed back in response, as if it were challenging him to come out. "How lucky are we really feeling today? Huh?" He would have been hissing if not for the gravel that seemed to roll around in his mouth. "YOU HEARD ME! DROP IT NOW!" The giant snapped at the Hufflepuff. It had just about enough of creeps and oddities tonight. They could all go to hell now, anyone that felt the world around them didn't matter. He might have it hard expressing his intentions, but he was set on purging this place of anything dark and mysterious. The punk he held in his grasp was one of these things, and he was going to let this one slip.

Samhain Festival
Mentions: @Howard White & @Erin Ryan
Leaving the Fall Ball and all its stuff, Bloom made her way to the Samhain Festival where she saw quite a bit of familiar faces. But instead of the happiness that was in the Fall Ball, there were others that were hurt, angry, sad and just overall overwhelmed. What is going on? Bloom thought as she entered further into the festival.
As she got closer, she saw just the person she was waiting for: Howard White, on top of who looked to be Erin. There was definitely something she was missing. She knew that there was talk about Erin being someone she wasn't, but was it all coming out now? Looking around more, she saw Serena there, too. And even more-so, there was an adult present and everything was still happening. This meant that something was intense.
Unlike others, Bloom did not have the personality to just jump in and cast spells. She observed. She was in shock at what was happening. While the tent was the only thing that fell in the Fall Ball, here it was like a coliseum combat zone. If she looked hard enough, she could even spot blood around the area.
"Is it happening?" she asked a bit too loud to herself. Bloom took out her wand and went towards Howard. She did not do anything, but she watched. He seemed to have a good grasp on the situation despite the fact that if no one knew what was happening, it looked as though he was beating up a random girl.
