You're not really supposed to do that when you're deactivating and changing characters. There's a reason the old is deactivated before the new one. i think it should be fine if you give your things to a friend before you deactivate, just as a gift. as long as they don't give it back, because then it makes it unfair for other firsties, otherwise i believe it should be fine.
