Rachel could tell from Casey's response that it wasn’t easy for him. There seemed to be more behind his words than he was letting on, but she didn’t want to ask him to elaborate or delve deeper into the topic.

Trying to offer comfort, she spoke softly, “I know the feeling. I would be so lost without my brothers. They’re the anchors of our family, and I couldn’t imagine our family without them.” She smiled softly at Casey.

For a moment, Rachel looked back at the fire, thinking about her family and their closeness. The warmth from the fire and the laughter surrounding them reminded her that this was supposed to be a time for fun and laughter. She didn’t want to steer the conversation into anything too heavy. It was their summer break, after all. How often is winter in the middle of summer? She had never seen anything like it, but she was still curious about his relationship with his family and wanted to show him that she was genuinely interested.

Rachel suddenly remembered one of the events she noticed in the tent when she had arrived and turned to Casey. She knew it was quite the pivot in the conversation, but she was enjoying Casey’s company. “Have you and your brother ever been sledding?” she asked with a smile. “A broom sledding race is coming up, and I’m debating whether or not I should enter the competition. I’ve never been sledding since we live in a coastal town… what do you think? Should I sign up and make an absolute fool of myself?”

She hoped the change in the topic would lighten their conversation and perhaps spark a bit of enthusiasm and excitement from Casey – she had a feeling that was an emotion that Casey rarely displayed to others.

Ula's breath came in heavy, victorious gasps as she approached the snack bar, a triumphant grin stretched across her face. The rush of adrenaline was intoxicating, and the taste of her win was already sweet on her lips. She had beaten him, outmaneuvered him with a well-placed Knockback Jinx, and the victory was all but hers.

Her eyes locked onto the last s'more sitting temptingly on the table. It was the final prize of the night, the last of the coveted treats she had fought so fiercely to secure. The graham crackers were perfectly golden, the melted chocolate oozed invitingly, and the marshmallow was toasted to the ideal level of gooeyness. This was not just any s'more—it was the ultimate reward for her relentless effort and strategy.

Just as she was about to reach for her prize, a hand slammed down on the table beside hers, jolting her out of her revelry. Her eyes darted up to meet the sight of…Pipsqueak—flushed, breathless, and groaning over his loss. Her triumphant grin faltered, replaced by an expression of sheer disbelief.

"What the shit?" she muttered his way, her frustration bubbling up as she glared at the boy.

She couldn't believe he'd managed to close the gap after everything she'd thrown at him. The Knockback Jinx was supposed to knock him off his feet, not just slow him down for a second. The fact that he’d managed to get up so quickly and nearly beat her gnawed at her pride, turning her victory sour. He reminded her of an annoying fly that wouldn't stay down, no matter how many times she swatted at him.

Seizing the last s'more with a decisive motion, Ula's irritation flared when she noticed yet another hand reaching for it—some clueless kid who had no idea about the fierce battle she'd just won.

With a swift, decisive swat, she batted the kid's hand away, her eyes flashing with a cold, icy fury. "I earned that," she snapped, her voice dripping with frustration. The kid recoiled, wide-eyed and intimidated, clearly understanding that crossing her had been a mistake.

S'more finally in hand, Ula turned back to face the boy, her eyes narrowing with a mix of irritation and reluctant admiration. She held the treat close, as if to emphasize just how hard-won it had been.

"You know," she said, her voice dripping with condescension, "I didn’t think you had it in you to make it this far. But here you are, crashing into my victory like the annoying little pest you are."

She stepped closer, her gaze sharp and unyielding."This s'more," she said, lifting it slightly, "is mine."

The blond just shrugged and smiled and the brunette's answer. Morning exercises were annoying at first, and when she came back from summer break. But she quickly got used to them, and even grew to like them. And yeah, being friends with a lot of people was great. Like Violeta, Astrid was looking at the fire when the girl answered about her school. Apparently Hogwarts was only dangerous when other schools were around. Hard to believe.
She could feel Violeta's weird stares as she started panicking, but still followed as Astrid moved away from the fire. The air was chillier here, but it was still like summer days at home. Still breathing hard and rapidly, she checked her leg again, but of course, there was nothing there. The cold feeling was still present though. She sat down on a pillow on the floor, bringing her legs up to her chest, trying to rub away the cold. It was only in her mind, the slug was not here. It was all in her head. Her breath calmed down, she looked and the other girl with an apologetic smile. "Sorry again..."

With curious eyes, Aodhan watched as this girl snapped at a different child. To be completely honest it was quiet a funny sight, the manner in which they scrunched themselves up and pulled away. At that moment, an image of a mean high school popular girl entered his mind, the type he could always point out during movie night at home.

The boy quickly relocated the stick in his mouth to a free hand, his lips finally having enough room to morph into an impish grin. Where she gazed at him begrudgingly, he returned one with sheer amusement, and perhaps a hint of deviousness. A pest? Yes, that might as well have been his middle name. However—

"Was that all you could come up with?" he teased, trying to withhold the laughter bubbling within his chest, "You could have said 'public enemy number one,' or maybe 'the reason you can't have nice things,' y'know? Make it fun."

There was a noticeable aura of confidence around her, evident in the way she had presented her edible trophy and stood tall before him. It wasn't like she was wrong to carry herself in such a way; he'd come in second place and she won fair and square. Still, his expression had yet to fade. Although he lost, that treat would be his regardless. He just had to... mess around a bit, is all. Cross the last hurdle.

"But yeah, congratulations! You did real well there, I didn't stand a chance," Aodhan breathed deep while speaking, and raised up his other palm in a show of defeat and peace. Then, he took his own steps forward and once close enough, shifted it into position for a handshake.

The youth only let the hand reside there for a couple seconds before he quickly raised it, trying to smack the s'more out of her grasp and back into the direction of the table. Risky for sure if it worked, but he was the one mentally prepared. He'd immediately try catching it with that same hand if successful, no doubt crumbling the treat somewhat in the process. A mere sacrifice to be made for the greater good.

Mari watches the dark-haired girl before she answers, the girl seemed surprised to hear Mari, which Mari would probably be if she had been in her place, mostly because she was a bit unsocial when it came to meeting more people, but this evening/early evening would undoubtedly be one of her best since she arrived at the camp, and his good, or rather not so bad humour, was due to that!

Mari, when she looked better at the girl and realized that she was from the same house as her, realized that she already knew her from hogwarts, just passing through, probably in the common room, but they had never spoken to each other before" Nice to meet you Kyra, I think I've seen you a few times around school, but I don't think we've ever exchanged a word" She said, still without showing a smile "By the way, Slytherin too, third year!" Acresta the brown-haired girl, " A second year... OK!" Mari thought, she didn't get along much with younger people, but ok...She wasn't going to make a problem out of it!

Mari listened carefully to Kyra's question, and yes, it was a fact that Mari wasn't spending much time on camp activities or things, she limited herself to the only place that made her come to camp, she in normal situations wouldn't want to come, much least considering the latest events... but Mari preferred not to talk about it for now" Yes, actually, I never wanted to come to the camp to be honest, that's why I've been spending most of my time at the stadium Quidditch, I really love Quidditch and that's basically why I came!" Mari said, without being arrogant, "Hmm, what about you? What have you been doing here?" Mari didn't expect to have a long conversation there, so she was hesitant to continue the conversation, but maybe meeting Kyra wouldn't be such a bad idea... only time will tell!

The constant chatter continued around Kyra and Mari, as they began their little conversation. It was annoying, to say the least, that she even had to speak a little louder because everyone around them was having such a good time. When Mari mentioned that she was a Slytherin as well, Kyra’s eyes lit up instantly. ”I come from generations of Slytherin. Unfortunately, my parents are no longer here, so it’s just me, my gram, and pap!” The girl responded happily. It wasn’t every day that someone would just come up and talk to her, let alone someone from the same house. Solitude is nice, but loneliness molds people into something harsh, unforgiving, or fatal.

Kyra Banuelos positioned herself in the chair to be more comfortable while chatting with Mari. When the fellow Slytherin started to talk about Quidditch, Kyra instantly zoned in to listen carefully. She, too, loved Quidditch and everything the sport stood for. Not only was Kyra deeply passionate about Quidditch, but she also enjoyed the intense duels that went down in the Duelling Club, along with the terrifying Broom Races where you never knew what type of obstacle was coming up next. Everything about the sports Hogwarts offered made her excited and eager to finally land a spot on one of the teams.

After breathing in and exhaling the stress of being surrounded by people away, Kyra put her attention on Mari and their question. ”Quidditch is amazing. One day, I will be on the team. At least, I hope to be.” She paused while looking around at everyone nearby, before finally looking back to Mari with her big brown eyes. ”Honestly, I don’t normally come out here, especially for activities like this, but something was screaming inside me to just break free and socialize. Before you say anything. Yuck, I know. I normally don’t talk much, so you’re getting a lot out of me tonight.” She chuckled. Kyra was having a decent time talking with Mari because it was something the young girl was not used to and it brought out the social side of her for the first time in ages it seems.

The brunette liked Hogwarts, it was a fine school, and she had been working hard on her inventions and translating her grandfather's journal, and she had made some friends as well as foes along the way. She hadn't been to any balls just yet, because she lacked interest in them, so the Summer Camp was the first big event and actual interaction she had with any other schools.

Even though she had weirdly stared at the girl, she still followed her, because she was older and Violeta thought of upperclassmen as 'role models', and she always listened to them, because they had been through a lot more than she did.

The air was chillier back there and it reminded her of childhood memories she had back in California. Summer nights were the best, catching fireflies, singing and dancing in their old backyard, then when they moved to Manchester, the city she was residing in, she didn't go outside much, spending most of her time cooped up inside in the library. She wished she had spent more time outside. Once she got back, she would spend less time reading and more time outside. "It's alright.. I was getting sweaty up there, and I hate the sensation..."

Mari started to get more and more interested when she heard her housemate saying that she had a Slytherin family lineage, Mari's family had always been a recognized Slytherin family, so knowing someone possibly understood her and that was minimally similar to her would be good, but her brilliance disappears when Kyra continues, Mari still hadn't sketched a smile before, and she had an excellent ability to be serious, and "without feelings" in all situations, something that came in handy for that time!

"My family are all Slytherin too! A long lineage, quite a lot! And... I'm sorry for your parents, I haven't seen my grandparents for a while either... Mari swallowed hard before continuing, she really didn't want to pay too much attention at that moment to what Kyra said, because if Mari was in her place, she wouldn't want to talk about it with a semi-stranger either, but even though Mari didn't show it, it was something that moved her,...

As Kyra continued the conversation, unlike most people when Mari said that she spent most of her time in the quidditch camp, Kyra seemed to be really interested in it, " I love quidditch too, it's really... very important for me, I have played, currently I do not play because my parents decided to go on to study... so I had to leave... but I hope you can get in, and maybe we'll play together!" Mari said now sketching a smile, it was difficult for Mari to accept her parents' decision... Mari was always raised to be the best at everything she did, and over time, she felt that obligation, so she only went down from an "O" to an "E"... I was already critical, so they thought it was the best option!

Mari kept listening to Kyra, from the little they knew each other they were really similar, Mari was surprised to hear second-year girl,
, because it seemed like Mari was talking, when the brown-haired girl was about to respond, some children near the girls started making a lot of noise “God, I feel like I don't know what! ” Mari murmurs, then turns to Kyra “ It's like me... I didn't come for any activity, it's not really what I like, but I love it, I love horror stories so it was impossible to miss! About sociality… I'm not much of a person meeting people either! This is a surprise for me too” Mari says, letting out a small laugh, something he said would work out, very well, and Mari hadn't spoken comfortably to anyone since... a while ago.

Kyra Banuelos let a smile stretch across their face as Mari mentioned them eventually playing Quidditch together. It was her dream to be a part of a team, especially one filled with those who can conjure magic just as she can. The thought of them on the field together was naturally exhilarating because the young girl wanted Slytherin to become the best at everything. Maybe she felt that it would honor their deceased parents more than anything, but Kyra felt like it was more than that. A self achievement that she would continue to work on until it came true. ”Something for us to make happen!” She said with a bit of excitement escaping their lips.

The background noise of all the students engaging in deep conversations and sharing horror stories were getting louder with each passing minute. It was because one person would try to talk louder than another, causing a chain reaction of people being loud and ignorant of everyone around them. Even if it was a special day for them to sit back and enjoy their time together, Kyra would have much rather stayed back at the dorms with a spell book in front of their face. And when Mari reacted to the noise around her, Kyra couldn’t help but to laugh for a split second. ”The joys of being around people.” Kyra spoke in a sarcastic tone that Mari would easily catch on to.

It certainly was not easy for Kyra to make friends, but with Mari around and the similarities between the two of them, she felt as if this fellow Slytherin may be worthy enough to trust. ”We need to have a horror movie night! That would be so much fun. What are your thoughts on the Forbidden Forest?” Kyra paused for a brief second, glancing around at the others that seemed to surround them, then she looked back at Mari, and leaned in to whisper loudly enough that she could hear. ”I always wanted to sneak in, but never had enough guts to go alone.” She finished speaking, adjusting herself back into the seat.

If Colby was searching for buttons to get a rise out of people, she felt like she found one from him. Her response about friendship seemed to really get to him, at least she thought so from the way he crossed his arms and was looking away from her. Great. Out of all the people at the bonfire, the one person choosing to sit next to her wants nothing to do with her. That wasn't fun. And furthermore, they were tent mates. So this was going to be an interesting camp experience.

The cackle of the fire along with the various conversations around them were cutting through their silence. For what seemed like forever (possibly only a minute or two) the two of them did not say one word to each other. Colby used this time to watch the fire dance in front of them, smoke lifting into the sky. Colby wasn't a pyromaniac in any way, but she did enjoy the beauty of the fire in front of them.

The "silence" was broken by Septimus himself. What he had said only grew Colby's ego. Of course she was right. Colby could not help but to shift her lips into a smirk. He had also apologized to her about yucking her yum. Nodding slowly to herself, she pressed her lips against each other and had a quick thought. There was something familiar about how Septimus approached the situation. Who did it remind her of? She looked at the ground where there was a pile of stale popcorn. It then hit her. He reminded Colby of her father. Granted, she had no idea who the person in front of her really was, but the way he needed silence and then apologized was very much like how her father would need space and come back to apologize to their mother about some argument they had.

Colby got up from her spot, still not saying a word. She went over to the nearby table alongside him-- not near the fire-- and grabbed different ingredients for a s'more. She then came back and sat down in the same place. Setting her ingredients down on her lap, she gave him a skewer that was nearby. "The first step is always the marshmallow," she instructed by showing him how she placed it at the top of her skewer. "And now, you burn it for as long as you'd like. The toastier, the better," she added at the end, a playful smirk painted across her face. "It's not a real s'more if you don't toast it."

Colby sniffed the air. There was a familiar, and yet unfamiliar scent and it wasn't the bonfire or the marshmallow roasting. Shocked that Septimus realized that someone was looking their way, she casually scanned the area to see if anyone was looking back at them. She did see someone looking in their direction, but it was hard to catch their scent specifically. Who was that person? They smelled like wet dog, but something else, too. With her arm, Colby wiped her nose and ignored the scent. "I have no idea," she shrugged off. Colby had a feeling that she would perhaps see that person sometime soon during camp.

"Since you're so new to s'mores, what treat is your favorite?" she asked, making conversation as her marshmallow was slowly turning brown to black.
