2022, Stage 3 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 6

At least the Hufflepuffs were friendly, Julian wishing them good luck as well. The Hufflepuffs seemed determined, like they were going to do whatever it took to bring them to victory. She smiled, knowing they were going to put up a good fight.

Rose pointed her wand at the Hufflepuffs, muttering an incantation and causing a cloud to appear over her opponents. Well, that seemed to work.

Alec's wind jinx didn't hit its target, which was a little disappointing, but they could live with that. She was glad that the Hufflepuffs were putting up a fight and really holding onto their chance at victory.

Alec looked over at her and congratulated her on her spellcasting. She grinned. "Thanks!" He seemed like he was about to continue, but then his attention shifted to the spells being aimed at them.

A Knockback Jinx hit Rose, though it didn't hit her very hard. It seemed to lack some of a Flipendo's normal bang. She saw a bolt of lighting from the cloud over the Hufflepuffs zap Julian, and she winced. That looked a little painful. She quickly shook the thought away. The Hufflepuffs had, without hesitation, started with Knockback Jinxes. That was just how a duel went.

They could do this. Come on.

It seemed to Dmitri that Rose Moon really did not expect her previous spell to be as powerful as it was. As a particularly violent rumble of thunder echoed overhead, instead of casting another spell at her opponent, the Gryffindor only flinched in shock.

Her partner seemed to be doing well, however. Alec, though evidently not expecting his spell to swerve wildly to the side like it did, still successfully hit Atlas with a blindfolding spell which then led her own Tarantallegra to bounce harmlessly off to the corner of the dueling club. Unfortunately, Julian did not manage to gain Alec's kind of luck. Dmitri watched as his Flipendo just... dissipated against a far wall.

This was a lower-year duel, so Dmitri was already expecting quite a lot of spellcasting mishaps.

Never this many, though.

Maybe he'd need to manage his expectations next time he gets to oversee a similar duel.

Rose watched as both Hufflepuffs aimed towards her, and she was somehow able to dodge both. Alec's spell shot towards the Hufflepuffs, and hit Atlas. Rose didn't notice that Atlas wasn't the one he was aiming at- she was just glad he had hit. A cloth wrapped itself around Atlas' eyes, obscuring her vision.

From dodging both spells to the enormity of her previous spell, Rose didn't cast a spell. She must have phased out or something. When she realized that she hadn't, guilt showed on her face, but she quickly bit it back. It was fine. Just focus on the moment, on the next spell.

For someone who had been so confident earlier it was ironic how quickly Alec was starting to doubt his sense of judgement. They thought this were going to be easy, were they treating the duel as if it were to easy? Not taking it seriously enough? He was starting to worry about falling behind, they'd gotten lucky earlier but it guaranteed nothing now. Alec's aim had been so off that he'd hit Atlas instead of Julian. The other team was still targeting Rose...

"I'm okay," muttered Julian in response to Atlas' question. His limbs still felt shaky, like his legs had been turned to jello, but he didn't think there had been any serious damage. Still, that didn't mean that he was unaffected by the lightning. Just the knowledge that lightning could strike again at any moment had him glancing up nervously as he tried to cast a new knockback in the direction of Rose. If he'd been a betting sort of person, he would not have bet that he'd be able to hit her, distracted as he was, and he was right, his flipendo flying wide off the mark.

He glanced towards Atlas to give her an apologetic look when he realised that the other team had managed to hit her and a blindfold was now impairing her sight. "Can you take that off?" he asked, once again looking up. He cared less that her aim was impaired than that she might not be able to dodge the lightning without being able to see.

Action: As strategised.

Atlas barely had enough time to cast a spell before a blindfold wrapped around her eyes, turning everything around her pitch black. Panicking, the girl turned her head upward, hoping the lightning, still thundering above them, wouldn't target the place she was standing in. Straining her eyes, the Hufflepuff, with no luck, attempted to see through the black fabric, to spot the flashes of light she knew must be overhead.

Julian's voice, asking her if she could take off the blindfold, was the only thing letting her know she hadn't accidentally wandered off the podium. "Um, I can try. I think," the girl replied, not sure of how she would be able to continue the duel with her vision cut off. Although she hated to admit it and being set on fire in her previous duel was absolutely terrifying, at this moment, Atlas would much rather have her world be covered in flames than in darkness.

The next set of spells went by in what Dmitri would call a... fiery manner.

The Slytherin captain watched idly by as two raging jets of fire—courtesy of Alec and Rose—hit Atlas Rey square in the chest as she was struggling to take her blindfold off. Already, the flames were crawling up the cloak she wore, definitely not looking like she'll be having a good time any moment soon.

Julian, bless his heart, has been constantly trying to hit Rose Moon with his own set of spells but it seemed like this still wasn't the moment for any of them to connect. Once again, his Flipendo bounced harmlessly off the Dueling Club wall.

So far, the duel has been going quite well in favor of the Gryffindors. There was still time, though, for the Hufflepuffs to recover. Their next actions could either prove to be their saviour, or the bane of their existence.

Rose saw Atlas yank her blindfold off, but not before she sent a fire-making spell towards her. Atlas was hit not just by Rose's fire spell, but by Alec's too, flames flaring up on her robes. She winced a little, remembering the time she had been on fire, but shook it off. Atlas would be fine. They both seemed to be strong people.

Julian tried to send another spell her way. His aim was almost flawless, but Rose was able to dodge out of the way, his spell hitting the wall behind her instead. She smiled towards Alec. "That was a good round," she said, returning her gaze to the Hufflepuffs.

It was fire but they'd done well this round. With luck they would continue to do well... Alec knew he kept changing his mind about where they stood, but at this point he was accepting it as the way duels rolled. Many ups and downs, of course all of it worth it in the end if him and Rose won.

As if summoned by her thoughts, a scorching flame lit up the girl's entire body as soon as she was able to take off her blindfold. Atlas had to refrain from slapping herself on the face for even thinking about being set on fire, since she should have known that even a fraction of a thought would summon what she was afraid of. It was hard not to chuckle at how much of a coincidence it was as she wondered if there ever will be a duel, in the future, that doesn't involve her being set aflame.
