@Lilia Eilertsen
No one was ever awake at such an early time, especially on the weekends. For some reason, people preferred sleeping to beautiful morning walks. Ivy did not mind - it meant more peace for her, so she wasn’t exactly complaining. There was a slight danger in walking down at the Great Lake - she could lose her footing and fall into the icy waters below, but this didn't stop the Gryffindor from pulling on her coat and stumbling down the rocky path, which was lit only by the first few rays of the sun as it rose.

As she arrived, she began to walk along the edge - although not directly at the edge, for that would be foolish. Ivy walked on the grass, her hands in her pockets and her breath turning into a plume of white steam before evaporating into the cold air. It had rained the night before, and every step broke a hundred dewdrops perched on the tips of the grass blades. The sun was rising quickly, and as Ivy looked across the lake, she noted that a perfect blend of pale pink and yellow spread across the sky, a soft, shy blue creeping in. The lake itself was a perfect mirror, reflecting the castle up above and the dark outline of the forest behind her. Ivy did not regret her choice in waking up to take a walk - while she may have missed out on a morning of “beauty sleep”, she was glad she had been awake at this time - Hogwarts was rarely so peaceful.

Ivy paused to adjust her scarf, her cheeks pink from the cold air. A rare smile spread across her face as she took in her surroundings. Ivy like beautiful things - perhaps that would sound narcissistic or vain to some, but to her it was common sense. Pretty things were pleasing to the eye - ugly things were not. Of course, some things became uglier and prettier in her eyes as time went on and they changed - both inside and out - but it was only natural that Ivy would be more inclined to seek out something that attractive rather than something that was ugly. Ivy would not have come out for a walk if the Great Lake was not so beautiful at sunrise.

Ivy leaned against a tree, watching the light dance off the blue, blue waters. The silence was something not easily found at Hogwarts - inside the castle, there was always some kind of noise somewhere in the castle. During the day, the buzz of the students’ chattering and the sound of their footstep blurred together, and even at night, the castle was not completely quiet. One could hear the chatting of the ghosts, the movements of house elves as they cleaned up, the creaks and groans of Hogwarts itself throughout the night.

Ivy was used to the silence of Bellamy Manor, where nothing was out of place, and while she would not say that she missed life with her parents, as she most certainly did not, she would not pretend that she didn't miss the peaceful silence that surrounded her days there. She sought that out in places outdoors, and in a good day, (which was, in her eyes, a day where no one came down to the Great Lake), Ivy could find the quiet again. She was slowly adapting to the noisy lifestyle of a Hogwarts student, but still needed the solitary quiet of being alone sometimes, treasuring the peaceful moments she managed to snatch in her free time.

Which was why Ivy was simultaneous alarmed and irritated when the sound of a branch snapping underneath someone else’s foot alerted her to behind her. She was suspicious - who else would be awake at such an early time? Skipping her hand into her pocket, the first-year gripped her the handle of her walnut wand for reassurance. Ivy knew she wouldn’t be able to do anything other than shoot red sparks if there was someone dangerous out there, but something about holding her wand made her feel more in control of this situation. “Who’s there?” she called out, her tone cautious. “Show yourself!

Lilia missed home, she missed the smoky warmth from the fireplace as she and her mother and father played UNO in their Oxford townhouse. They were a family of pure-bloods but somehow all collectively possessed a love for muggle things or ‘pop culture’ as Lilia believed it was called. It wasn’t like she did like Hogwarts it was more the fact that it wasn’t home. It was funny because Hogwarts was meant to be home from home and Gryffindor her second family and whilst Lilia expected that all came with time it didn’t change the fact that it just wasn’t the same. She wouldn’t wake up to her dog, Bruno licking her rather aggressively on the face or her mother blasting ABBA whilst singing off-key in a heavy Romanian accent. George had always been the better and luckily for Lilia she had inherited the father’s skills.

The young Gryffindor had always enjoyed waking up early, herself being an early-bird over a night-owl. In her opinion everything was nicer in the morning, the air was fresher, there was more wildlife and life in general seemed to slow down. Everything was more peaceful and if it was one thing that Lilia liked it was peace. Lilia also liked water, it didn’t matter if it was a river, lake or ocean, she had always liked the calming and soothing presence of waves. The Eilertsen family often drove down to Greece to spend the holidays and this was probably where Lilia’s love for water and calmness grew.

Lilia had decided to spend this particular morning with the heart of nature. She had woken up earlier than what seemed humanly acceptable, thrown her hair into a low ponytail, put on some leggings and a jumper and had chosen to go for a nice long walk. She made her way down to the black lake, careful not to slip over the side and fall into the icy depths. Whilst Lilia was a strong swimmer, something about the Black Lake did not appeal to her as the beaches in Greece did. Whether it was the idea of ice-cold water that chilled to the bone or the prospect of being taken under by the Black Squid, Lilia was not intrigued.

Lilia had made her way into a clearing of trees, she liked it better up here. She enjoyed the highs of nature, how thousands of colors bloomed into life on something as small as a flower. She enjoyed the delicateness of nature but also the roughness, the complex character that Mother Nature possessed would always enamor the young Gryffindor. She also enjoyed the change that nature often went through; just a few weeks ago the leaves had been filled with green but now they were beautiful shades of amber, wine and gold, falling effortlessly from their branches. Lilia had always loved the fall and the colors that were brought with the season.

It was after a few moments of enjoying the nature surrounding her did Lilia notice a figure leaning against a tree. Lilia would have normally let the person be but she never saw anyone this early and the more she looked at the figure the more she wanted to talk to her. Lilia could now tell that the figure in question was female and almost definitely a first year like Lilia. Lilia began to make her way quietly over to the girl, in an effort to retain the young girl's peace. However, to Lilia’s dismay she heard a twig snap underneath her foot, so much for the element of surprise.

Lilia cursed under her breath softly as she realized how irritated the girl sounded, it was only now that Lilia was beginning to reconsider her actions. It was completely plausible that the girl wanted to remain undisturbed after all it wasn’t like they were friends, Lilia didn’t know her. However, she had definitely seen her before, finally it clicked, she was a fellow Gryffindor like Lilia, although she wasn't in the same form. Lilia made her way into the clearing so she was facing the girl with a smile on her face. The girl was rather pretty, with ebony black hair she looked like she could play the part of a princess. Focusing her attention on the girl, Lilia made her smile as genuine as she could before speaking softly; “I didn’t mean to disturb, I just saw you out at this time and wanted to introduce myself”. Lilia reached out her small hand for the girl to shake. “Lilia Eilertsen, Gryffindor.” The girl's voice had a calming notion alongside its softness which matched her personality perfectly.

Relief and disappointment rushed through her simultaneously when none other than simply a girl came into her line of vision, whom she recognized as one of the inhabitants of the dormitory next door but had never spoken to. Lilia... Eilertsen, she said? She also recognized the girl's last name - the Eilertsens were well known in the pureblood-family circle for their love of Muggle things. Ivy's parents disapproved of this greatly, and Ivy herself didn't really care - it didn't affect her in any way, and she had not expected to run into them any time soon. Of course, she had known they had a daughter, but as the Bellamys and Eilertsens had never met, so she had no idea that Lilia was her age and at Hogwarts as well.

Ivy's grip relaxed on her wand and she tried to smooth out the annoyance on her face. It was too early and too beautiful of a morning to pick a fight with someone she hardly knew. She approached Lilia and shook her outstretched hand limply. “Ivy Bellamy. I suppose early morning walks aren’t as uncommon as I thought they were,” she said, with a rueful smile. “The Great Lake is very pretty, don’t you think?”

Ivy tilted her head and observed the other girl. She was very pretty, with blonde hair scraped into a ponytail and large green eyes, in an almost effortless, natural way. She looked right at home, surrounded by tall trees and flowers, her flushed cheeks adding colour to her overall look. ”If I recall correctly, you’re in the dormitory next to mine, aren’t you?” Ivy asked. “It’s funny how little we’ve socialised. You’d think that by now, we’d at least know everyone’s names.” They were just over a month into the school year. Just over a month away from home, if that place could even be called a home.
